If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic horror fiction, then you know there are two essential novels that everyone must read: Stephen King's The Stand, and Robert McCammon's Swan Song. The former has been adapted for TV a couple of times now, while the fan base of the latter has been clamoring for one for decades. Well, dreams do come true because Swan Song is finally getting the television adaptation we’ve all been waiting for, and it just found its showrunner.
Per Variety, Russell Rothberg will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for Swan Song, which is now being taken out to market to hopefully find a distributor. Rothberg's past credits include the highly successful A&e series Bates Motel, Apple TV's Foundation, and most recently the Peacock limited series Long Bright River. The best part of all? A series adaptation of Robert McCammon’s bestselling post-apocalyptic novel, Swan Song, is in the works, and Variety reports this morning that it’s found its showrunner in “Foundation” producer Russell Rothberg.
Rothberg will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The Swan Song showrunner is no stranger to genre TV, either, having previously developed the Psycho-inspired series “Bates Motel” for A&e.
In Swan Song, “following the U.S. government’s nuclear showdown with an unprecedented malevolent enemy, America as it was is gone forever. Now, the remaining citizens must fight to stay alive in a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies.”
Longtime “The Walking Dead” executive producer/director and “Creepshow” showrunner Greg Nicotero is attached to direct the pilot and will executive produce along with Brian Witten from Monster Agency Productions. Peacock has delivered a mind-bending terror in the form of Teacup, but will the series ever be renewed for season 2? Very loosely based on the classic horror novel Stinger by Robert R. McCammon, the series concerns a family living in rural Georgia who find themselves face-to-face with a mysterious threat at their isolated farmhouse. Reminiscent of recent fears around the Covid-19 pandemic, Teacup plays up the themes of isolation and entrapment while also exploring a mystery framework that is punctuated with shocking body horror elements. With producer James Wan at the helm, the series has everything going for it.
Though adaptations of novels are nothing new in the world of TV and movies, Teacup is unique because it reportedly ignores most of its source material. Throughout the development process of the series, the creators were quick to point out that Teacup borrows loosely from McCammon's Stinger, and radically changes most of the important details.

Oh, a real tempest is stirring in Teacup as Peacock‘s acclaimed sci-fi/horror drama races towards its first season finale. And TV Insider has an exclusive peek at what to expect in this week’s two-episode ender. Based (very loosely) on author Robert R. McCammon’s book Stinger, the series has spent the past six episodes establishing that invisible alien visitors have invaded the bodies of local neighbors in a rural Georgia community. One is known as “Harbinger” and resides inside the mind of young Arlo Chenoweth (Caleb Dolden). The other “Assassin,” has been jumping from host to host to get closer to Arlo’s unseen guest, and has a dark intention once he traps it. We’ve also learned a lot about these characters along the way. The boy’s folks—James and Maggie—are reeling from James’ affair with a neighbor. There is also a guy in...

Viewers disappointed by Netflix's cancelation of a 2-year-old highly acclaimed horror show must watch a new Stephen King-approved series. Although Netflix is known for having a massive catalog of acclaimed horror shows, many that have landed on the streaming platform have never been able to reach their natural conclusion. One of these horror shows, adapted from a podcast, premiered on the streaming giant in the first month of 2022.
With James Wan as one of its executive producers, the series performed incredibly well among critics and still boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 87%. However, despite garnering critical acclaim and ending its first season's run on an ambiguous note, the Netflix show was abruptly canceled. Many viewers even complained about Netflix's decision to pull the plug on the series, but nothing changed the outcome. Fortunately, two years after the show's release, another similar series is now available for streaming.

With the first five episodes of Teacup out now on Peacock, there is excitement swirling about the new Ian McCulloch series produced by horror icon James Wan. The 8-episode miniseries starring Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman is based on the 1988 novel Stinger by Robert McCammon. This monster novel weaves together science fiction, horror, and small-town drama to great effect. While Teacup marks a tonal departure from McCulloch's writing and producing on Yellowstone, his teaming up with Wan is the kind of cross-genre collaboration horror fans didn't know they needed. With the support of Wan's production company, Atomic Monster, McCulloch's first time as showrunner is definitely delivering on gore, fulfilling the original book's mysterious, thrilling story.

A new Stephen King-approved horror show is the perfect series to watch alongside From season 3, with both shows sporting plenty of similarities. From season 3 is a horror series on MGM+, following the lives of people who become trapped in a town filled with supernatural creatures and paranormal events. This was compounded by From's intriguing characters and unsolved mysteries, leading to many theories surrounding what's really going on in the mysterious location.

When Stephen King beams about a new horror project, hardened genre fans take note. On October 10, 2024, the preeminent horror scribe took to X and professed his adoration for Teacup, a Peacock original horror series that premiered the same day. With two episodes released one week apart, the 8-episode TV event has not resonated as well among critics and general horror fans as with King.
Based on the 1988 novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, Teacup concerns a band of neighbors forced to cooperate and find a means of survival when a fatal force marauds their rural Georgia landscape. Although Stephen King has voiced a high opinion of the show, Teacup has been criticized as little more than an ersatz Walking Dead meets The Crazies mashup that neither terrifies nor adds much to the genre.

The James Wan-produced Teacup was one of my most anticipated 2024 horror shows, but the showrunner's claim it essentially ignores the source novel makes me nervous. Peacock's Teacup stars Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman as a couple in Georgia who, alongside their neighbors, find themselves under siege by an otherworldly threat. The trailer for Teacup takes notes from Lost's playbook, keeping things very mysterious, but those who've read the book it adapts - Robert R. McCammon's Stinger - will have a clearer idea of what's happening.
Stinger feels like an unmade sequel to The Thing and involves an alien bounty hunter trapping a desert town inside an impenetrable dome. This creature can also absorb other lifeforms and make drones of them, with its signature attack being a spiky, barbed tail. I found Stinger to be a pulpy guilty pleasure, featuring both creepy scenes of horror and large-scale action.

Stephen King is once again scoping out all the best genre TV to give fans the rundown on what's new and great. His Entertainment Weekly column may have ended ages ago, but the prolific author's pop culture knowledge knows no limits, and he still regularly takes to Twitter/X to post about what he's been watching or reading. Earlier this summer, he gave the Paramount+ series "Evil" a boost –- and may have kick-started an entire cast and fan campaign –- by requesting a renewal for the newly-ended weird horror series. His other recent recommendations include the Jeremy Saulnier thriller "Rebel Ridge" and the Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald-led indie "Strange Darling," both of which /Film's own critic Chris Evangelista also really liked.

From Executive Producer James Wan comes the new horror series Teacup.
Teacup follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. Inspired by the New York Times bestselling novel “Stinger” by Robert McCammon, the cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Chaske Spencer, Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, Luciano Leroux.
The first two episodes of Teacup premiere on Peacock on Thursday, October 10, followed by two episodes weekly through Halloween. The horror, thriller contains eight 30 Min episodes.
Published in 1988, Stinger is a classic horror novel that blends elements of science fiction and pulp fiction. Set in a dying Texas mining town, the story centers around an alien bounty hunter who arrives to track down a fugitive alien who has escaped from its home planet.
Sounds very much like the movies Critters and The Hidden.

Set to release on October 10, Peacocks new horror series Teacup has a lot of buzz surrounding it, and rightfully so. Its the first time one of author Robert McCammons novels is being adapted for television, something his fans have been clamoring for since the 1980s. Set on an isolated ranch in rural Georgia, the story takes inspiration from the book Stinger, and follows a disparate group of people who must come together to face a mysterious threat. Produced in part by James Wan, Teacup recently received high praise from someone who knows a thing or two about adaptations, that being Stephen King, who compared it to a couple of other fan-favorite series, which bodes well for McCammons translation.

The Peacock streaming service recently announced that the first two episodes of the James Wan-produced series Teacup, which is an adaptation of the 1988 bestseller Stinger, written by Robert R. McCammon (pick up a copy Here), are set to premiere on October 10th… and if you’re wondering why the TV series has a different title than the novel source material, it turns out there’s a very good reason for that. Yellowstone consulting producer Ian McCulloch is a writer and executive producer on the show, in addition to being the showrunner, and he told SFX magazine that the show only really adapts the spirit of McCammon’s novel.
McCulloch said, “I think that if I had read the book as a teenager when it came out, I might have felt a little more beholden to it. This is a very different kind of adaptation in that it’s really...

Writer, producer, and showrunner Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone) will be the first to tell you that “Teacup,” Peacock‘s upcoming horror mystery series executive produced by James Wan, draws very little from the novel that inspired it, Robert McCammon’s Stinger. Stepping foot on set in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this summer only reinforced how drastically different the new series will be from its ’80s action horror novel origins.
The first two episodes of Atomic Monster and UCP’s series “Teacup“ premiere on Peacock Thursday, October 10, followed by two episodes weekly through Halloween, delivering a puzzle box of strange happenings, human drama, and more body horror than you’d expect.
The first drastic departure from McCammon’s novel is its new setting: rural Georgia. Stinger, initially published in 1988, takes place in a town called Inferno, Texas, and blends sci-fi, horror, and western genres together for a wild, otherworldly siege amidst racial tensions...

Horror visionaries have long been walking the thin line between showing and leaving it up to audience interpretation. Sometimes, its proven to be much more effective to hide the reveal and instead allow audiences to use their imaginations, as what our brains come up with can oftentimes be multiple times more frightening than any special effects would allow. This was the way that Ian McCulloch, the showrunner for Peacocks upcoming horror series, Teacup, approached the projects monster. Inspired by Robert R. McCammons novel, Stinger, the creative team knew going into the production that those who read the book already had a solid image in their heads of the characters and creature.

Don’t cross the line.
That’s what the trailer for Teacup, the forthcoming Peacock series from horror mastermind James Wan, wants you to know.
In the trailer (below) for the horror-thriller starring Yvonne Strahovski (Handmaid’s Tale) and Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy), a boy (Caleb Dolden) goes on a walk and is seemingly changed forever by what he’s seen.
“He says we’re trapped,” he tells Strahovski’s character. Who? “The man in my head. We need to hide… because it’s coming. And it kills everything that gets in its way.”
The two minute-plus first look at Teacup is eerily set to Harry Nilsson’s “Think About Your Troubles.” The animals are scared. And an anonymous figure draws a line that, if crossed, leads to what sounds to be a gruesome death. Speedman’s character is warned by a stranger wearing a gas mask not to trust anyone,...

The devil is in the details, or in the case of Hysteria!, in a local heavy metal band.
Hysteria! is one of two original series Peacock has lined up to scare the bejesus out of viewers this Halloween.
The other is Teacup, based on Robert McCammon’s 1988 science fiction horror novel Stinger, set to premiere on October 10.
(Photo: NBCU)
Horror icon Bruce Campbell guest stars in Hysteria! as the town’s police chief, so you know it’s going to be good.
Here’s everything else we know so far about Hysteria!
What is Hysteria About?
Set in the fictional town of Happy Hallow, Michigan, in the 1980s, Hysteria! explores the “satanic panic” of that era.
The story follows a group of high school kids who decide to put the pedal to the metal, literally, by rebranding their heavy metal band as a Satanic metal band.
Why would they do such a devilish thing?...
