Jigsaw may have set his last trap, as the Saw franchise finds itself in trouble amid the delayed release of the next sequel, Saw XI. A new report by Scream Magazine claims that, according to “a reliable source,” the eleventh Saw movie has come across several problems, including issues behind the scenes with the studio, Lionsgate, and problems with returning star Tobin Bell.
Saw XI was initially given a release date of September 27, 2024. However, this was quickly pushed back to September 26, 2025, with Bell later confirmed to return as the infamous serial killer John Kramer, Aka Jigsaw. The source tells Scream Magazine “that it looks highly unlikely that Saw XI will meet its new September 2025 release date. It has been hinted that there are significant problems behind the scenes, and “unless something major changes,” Saw XI won’t be coming next fall.”
The issues at Lionsgate are likely due to the studio’s current financial losses,...

Nosferatu is making waves on the list of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time as it climbs above a classic franchise. Robert Eggers' 2024 horror reimagining of the influential 1922 silent horror of the same name serves as an adaptation of the Dracula story. The Nosferatu cast features Bill Skarsgård in the titular role as Count Orlok, alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin. The movie was released December 25 in the United States and recently passed a significant box office milestone.
Willem Dafoe starred in the 2000 independent film Shadow of the Vampire, a fictionalized account of the making of Nosferatu.
Per The Numbers, Nosferatu has climbed into the top 50 highest-grossing horror movies of all time. It has well exceeded the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office, posting a gross (to date) of $136.1 million. The film is sitting at #46 on the list of top 100 All Time...

2005 was filled with great slasher, spooky, and creature-feature movies. Early 2000s horror movies weren't afraid to push boundaries and scare audiences in new and exciting ways. Movies like Saw 2, Hostel, and The Devil's Rejects displayed a whole new type of brutal horror subgenre and showed just how terrifying the world could be in these franchises. These graphically violent movies weren't the first of their genre, but they brought the shock value that audiences felt worldwide.
Released in the same year, movies like The Ring 2 and The Exorcism of Emily Rose were about ominous, supernatural horror. These movies were about suffering from within and the vengeful spirits inside the main characters. There was such a wide range of horror movies, proving that people loved all subgenres of horror movies and were open to anything unsettling. 2005 was the year of fear in movies, from realistic, sadistic killers to supernatural horror...

Over 10 films to date and an 11th scheduled for late September of 2025, Saw is a franchise that rivals most in terms of both output and fandom. It had a run of 7 straight films over 7 years which began with the out of nowhere Saw in 2004 and culminating with Saw 3D in 2010. Its consistency may have trailed off temporarily with scattered entries following in 2017, 2021, and 2023, but the series as a whole is well known and has branched off into nearly every conceivable type of media. From comics and novels to video games and toys, Saw may just be primed to start another legendary run in the 2020s. Saw III was a runaway train that is still the highest grossing film in the series, but it was almost not even made after the original creators were done. With traps that were some of the most creative and even including Tobin Bell’s favorite...

Back in July, Djimon Hounsou signed on to star in a shark thriller called Beneath the Storm alongside Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), with Tommy Wirkola (Violent Night) writing and directing for Sony Pictures and producers Adam McKay and Kevin Messick of HyperObject Industries. Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is coming to theaters in January. The movie will mark the second remake of a Universal Monsters classic with Whannell at the helm after the hit 2020 film The Invisible Man.
While at New York Comic Con, Whannell opened up about Wolf Man in an interview with Screen Rant. The filmmaker reflected on how Oscar-nominated Barbie star Ryan Gosling was originally attached to star when the project was first put into development in 2020 after the success of The Invisible Man. However, the production process was slowed down by the pandemic along with the Hollywood strikes of 2023, and by the time Wolf Man was officially greenlit, Gosling had departed the project to focus on other opportunities.

Wolf Man director Leigh Whannell offers a candid glimpse into the difficulties of filmmaking, addressing how setbacks led to Ryan Gosling having to step away from the Universal Monsters reimaging. The Saw co-creator is set to modernize another classic monster's tale following his 2020 reimagining of The Invisible Man, with Christopher Abbott taking on the lead role. In Whannell's Wolf Man, a small family moves to rural Oregon where he inherits his childhood home, but a sudden late-night home invasion leaves father and husband Blake (Abbott) cursed to turn into a monster.
Recently, Whannell opened up to Screen Rant during New York Comic-Con about the movie's journey to the screen and the departure of one potential lead. After some reluctance, Whannell and his wife Corbett Tuck, who also co-wrote the movie, had initially developed the feature with Gosling attached, but a prolonged development lengthened by the Covid-19 pandemic and Hollywood strike...

The "sophomore slump" in art is such an assumed phenomenon that it feels almost unfairly like a prerequisite more than a common occurrence. Sure, many creatives often follow up groundbreaking debuts with efforts that don't quite reach the same level of quality and/or success, but there are far more whose follow-up album or film is just as good in its own unique way. In some cases, it takes time for these works to be fully appreciated, as the fog of hype and expectation can cloud one's judgment, of course. These factors are only heightened by the volume of opinions from audiences and critics who wish to participate in another trend that's commonly associated with follow-up films: people love to pile on what negativity they can, perhaps to prove that an artist isn't as good as they've been cracked up to be, or to humble them, or whatever psychology you'd...

Tobin Bell became a horror icon from the moment John Kramer rose from the floor at the end of Saw, and the actor recently recalled his initial reaction to what he believed could be one of cinema's most unforgettable scenes. Saw X appears to have reinvigorated the Saw franchise, so while we wait for Saw XI to come along, we here at Arrow in the Head have decided to take a look back at the previous films in the series to compile a list of the Best Saw Traps. There were many traps to choose from, but the idea here was to narrow it down to the best trap (or trap scene) from each individual movie. Check out our picks below, and let us know what your favorite traps were in the comments section.
Saw – Reverse Bear Trap
Of course this one had to make the list, since it’s the most popular trap in the entire franchise and the one most strongly remembered by the general audience. The reverse bear trap caught so much attention when it showed up in the first film, they brought it back in a couple of the sequels.

This post contains spoilers for "Lost" season 3 and "Saw II."
With "Lost" streaming on Netflix in time to mark its 20th anniversary, a new generation of viewers have the chance to watch perhaps the greatest episode in TV history: the show's season 3 finale, "Through the Looking Glass." It's a jam-packed two-part installment, although it starts off a little weird with its constant recurring flashbacks around Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox). The show had given us so many Jack-centric episodes by this point that it felt sort of anti-climactic to center the finale on him too. It also seemed strange that Jack apparently had a sad alcoholic phase we'd never been privy to before. Still, after nearly 60 episodes straight of pre-island flashbacks, most viewers were happy to go along with this, especially since the on-island storylines were so compelling.

Underway now through July 16, Severin Films‘ annual summer sale is the most ambitious in the company’s history. The Dario Argento’s Opera five-disc box set — which you can preview in an exclusive clip below — is the headliner, but there are nine more releases in addition to exclusive merchandise and big savings on past inventory.
Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Severin Summer Sale…
Opera
In my eyes — held open with needles, of course — Opera is Argento’s last true masterpiece. While the Italian maestro attained fleeting moments of greatness later in his oeuvre, Opera is the last of his efforts that can hold its own alongside his earlier, career-defining work like Suspiria, Deep Red, Tenebrae, and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage.
Co-written by Argento and frequent collaborator Franco Ferrini, the giallo stars Cristina Marsillach as Betty, a young opera singer whose big break...

2017's Jigsaw has become a Netflix streaming hit. The movie was the platform's ninth most-watched movie in the United States in the week of July 1 through July 9. The Saw movies have enjoyed success in the past few years that seems to be rehabilitating the franchise after years of doldrums.
Jigsaw has become a streaming hit on Netflix. The 2017 horror movie was a legacy sequel and the eighth movie in the Saw franchise, coming seven years after the previous installment. It featured the return of Tobin Bell as the killer Jigsaw alongside a new cast of characters investigating a series of grisly murders. Despite grossing $104.2 million against a budget of $10 million, it failed to produce a direct sequel, as it was later followed by the 2021 spinoff Spiral: From the Book of Saw and the 2023 prequel Saw X.

The Saw series declined after the fourth movie, losing its emotional horror focus and becoming more about vigilante justice. Early victims were mostly innocent, highlighting Jigsaw's flawed ideology of teaching life appreciation through torture. Later movies focused on more "deserving" victims, lessening the narrative power and original message of the franchise.
This article contains discussions of murder, drug addiction, self-harm, and suicide.
The first Saw movie is iconic and a horror classic, but fans and critics alike agree that the series largely took a turn after that. It especially started to suffer, however, by the fourth movie, the first not written by Leigh Whannel and James Wan. While the decision to kill off John Kramer, the original Jigsaw killer, is often debated as the reason for this decline (an especially compelling argument given Saw X's success), the real reason is larger than the death of one character.

Jigsaw's timeline twist revealed Kramer's first apprentice, creating confusion. Final Destination 5 did the timeline twist better, making it more impactful and with a purpose in the franchise. Saw II and Saw IV also played with timelines, but Jigsaw's twist was just to shock viewers.
As is tradition in the Saw saga, Jigsaw had a plot twist that led to another, one of them a timeline twist, and if you liked that one, this $157.9 million horror movie is a must-watch. The Saw saga seemed to have reached its end in 2010 with Saw 3D, also known as The Final Chapter, and though it gave a surprising but satisfying end to the franchise, it was brought back to life seven years later with Jigsaw. Directed by the Spierig Brothers, Jigsaw is set a decade after John Kramers (Tobin Bell) death.

Jigsaw's plot and inventive death contraptions make it unique in the Saw franchise. The 2017 installment has a divided Rotten Tomatoes score, critiqued for a laughable plot and obvious twist ending. The film's twist relies on plot holes and reuses mechanics from previous installments, leaving fans hoping for improvements in future films.

When searching for inspirational pieces of wisdom during unmotivated or unexciting periods, the Saw franchise hardly seems like a font of inspiration for that much-needed encouragement. A horror movie series that provides its gore-adoring fans with torturous traps and violent visuals aided by lots of blood does not seem all that inspiring. To think any inspirational quotes would come from its star of a serial killer, Jigsaw, may seem like quite a stretch. However, despite how sinister Saw's villain is in the franchise, John Kramer has said many insightful things during his time masquerading as the infamous Jigsaw.
Throughout the Saw saga, John Kramer orchestrates his games not out of masochism, but instead to motivate his victims to survive. His philosophy revolves around the idea that to help people, they need to be subjected to "tests" to prove whether they appreciate their lives and deserve to keep living them,...

“You always attack a movie scene as late as you possibly can. You always come into the scene at the last possible moment.” This bit of advice from the great screenwriter William Goldman has guided most moviemakers. The overwhelming majority of films begin with trouble already brewing and end before everything can be settled. But sometimes, a filmmaker takes the opposite approach. These visionaries begin as early as possible, even after the opening of a different movie. Thus, the prequel was born.
Seriously though, most prequels come less from the minds of creatives and more from studios trying to milk every dollar from their sweet, sweet IP. For that reason, audiences have rightly developed a general skepticism toward the concept. But every once in a while, a genuinely talented filmmaker finds value in telling the story before the story. They use the plot beats we already know to give their...

The Saw franchise is a blockbuster horror series though the first seven entries have been something of a mixed bag in terms of reviews from critics and audiences. Jigsaw, the 2017 reboot, struggled to capture the glory of previous Saw movies. The traps were less ingenious, and the movie moved away from the satirical nature of the original series, making it less playful. Spiral: From the Book of Saw, while lacking Tobin Bell's Jigsaw, attempted to evolve the franchise beyond a character that died six movies ago. It starts slow but goes full Saw eventually. The final twist was predictable, making it a good but not great movie.
The Saw movies rank as one of the most successful and influential horror franchises of the 21st century, although the Saw movies ranked greatly varies. Saw premiered in 2003, and the massive hit propelled filmmaker James Wan into the Hollywood mainstream. Two years...

Hulu has to be pretty pleased with its list of new releases for June 2024. That’s because it’s about to be the summer of The Bear once again.

Jeremy Allen White stars as Carmy Berzatto, a world-famous chef who returns home to Chicago to help his floundering family restaurant after the death of his brother. Season 2 saw The Original Beef of Chicagoland crew transform the spot into fine dining establishment The Bear. It ruled. So will season 3 probably.
FX is responsible for the other major TV release on Hulu this month. Clipped premieres on June 4 and is about the scandalous real life story of Donald Sterling, the awful owner of the basketball team the Los Angeles Clippers. Another intriguing TV option...

Jigsaw's iconic quotes carry hidden meanings and reflect his twisted sense of fun in creating death-defying lessons for his victims. Saw franchise faced near-cancellation after negative reviews for Saw 3D but made a comeback with sequels featuring Tobin Bell's return. John Kramer's motivations in Saw movies stem from a near-death experience, driving him to make others appreciate life through brutal tests.
Nobody has better Saw quotes than the main character of the franchise, John Kramer/Jigsaw. Every statement he makes is either witty or has some sort of hidden meaning to it. After attempting suicide due to a terminal illness, the former engineer came to appreciate life even more, and he sought to impart that same death-defying lesson to those whom he believed did not value their lives. Thus began a gruesome chain of events that has thus far spanned 10 movies and nearly two decades. Saw 3D,...

Amanda Young may have founded Elite Hunting in Hostel based on a detail in Hostel: Part II. Elite Hunting lacks Jigsaw's purpose but was a way for Amanda to profit from torture and death. If the theory is true, Amanda would become the most dangerous character in Saw, responsible for many deaths.
A brilliant theory connects Saw to another controversial horror franchise through one of its main characters, potentially creating a disturbing horror universe. The horror genre is packed with franchises from different subgenres, and among the most successful ones is the Saw franchise. The world of Jigsaw began in 2004 with James Wan’s Saw, which introduced viewers to John Kramer a.k.a. 20 years ago, Saw made an indelible impact on the horror genre. Not only did it usher in the so-called “torture porn” subgenre that would become synonymous with the aughts, but it also launched the career of filmmaker James Wan, who has firmly cemented his place among the masters of horror with follow-ups like The Conjuring and Insidious.
In the two decades since, the lucrative franchise has spawned nine sequels — 2005’s Saw II, 2006’s Saw III, 2007’s Saw IV, 2008’s Saw V, 2009’s Saw VI, 2010’s Saw: The Final Chapter, 2017’s Jigsaw, 2021’s Spiral: From the Book of Saw, and 2023’s Saw X — with a worldwide box office total of over $1 billion.

The following contains images and videos that some readers may find disturbing.
There have been shocking horror movie twists that have completely taken audiences by surprise and brutal acts of violence that have repulsed them. Then, certain scenes are so unnerving that they leave a lasting trauma on those who watch them. It's not enough to simply be gross, as that is an easy, and often cheap, cinematic trick.
Some filmmakers have managed to tap into the raw nerve of morality to craft scenes that offend down to the core. Not all shocking scenes are the same and context matters. The most unsettling movie scenes have just the right amount of wrong and can't be unseen, no matter how much the viewer may want to forget.

Director Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw X and other previous sequels, is reportedly returning to helm the confirmed Saw 11. Greutert's return could be good news for the upcoming sequel as Saw X is the best-received installment in the franchise since the original. The departure of Saw X writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger is potentially worrying, however.
Saw 11 has now found its director, according to a new report, and it's a franchise veteran. After the success of the first film in 2004, the Saw franchise has gone on to become one of the longest-running horror properties, following Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) as he punishes different victims using elaborate torture traps. The tenth installment in the franchise was released last year, becoming a critical and commercial success, and Lionsgate officially confirmed in December that an eleventh film is on the way.

The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and...

Saw 11 needs longer runtimes to allow for more content, better pacing, and character development. The return of escape room style traps could bring nostalgia and add a modern twist to the franchise. Saw 11 should focus more on John Kramer and his complex character, providing further development and backstory.
Saw 11 is hitting theaters in the fall, and there are a number of things audiences and franchise fans hope to see in the sequel. The first Saw movie was released back in 2004, meaning that Saw 11 will be on screens during the franchise's 20-year anniversary. The introduction of the chaos of John "Jigsaw" Kramer's (Tobin Bell) mind completely redefined the horror genre as a whole, and there's no doubt that Saw 11 will continue to do so.
With so many films in the franchise, there is the concern that Saw 11 may not be to the same standard as some of its predecessors. While there...

The release of Saw 11 one month before the franchise's 20th anniversary misses a big opportunity to celebrate. Releasing Saw 11 on the anniversary date or the Friday before would be a better timed release for the franchise.
Saw 11 already has a release date, but it ignores a perfect one with which it could have celebrated a big franchise milestone. The Saw franchise is far from over and will continue to expand with an eleventh movie, known for now simply as Saw 11. After the disappointment of Jigsaw in 2017 and the 2021 spinoff movie Spiral, the Saw franchise went back to John Kramer (Tobin Bell) in Saw X. To reunite with Kramer, Saw X is both a sequel and a prequel, set between the events of Saw and Saw II, and it set up a sequel that is also expected to serve as a prequel to one of the previous movies.

Saw X left Cecilia's fate uncertain, raising questions about whether she is alive or dead. If Cecilia is alive in Saw XI, she may seek revenge on John Kramer, making her a relentless antagonist. If Cecilia is dead, it could reveal that Amanda was the trap designer, setting up her downfall in Saw III.
The Saw franchise will continue to expand with a new movie, and it can solve the biggest character fate uncertainty left by Saw X. The Saw saga kicked off in 2003 with the short film now known as Saw 0.5, which was developed into Saw in 2004, directed by James Wan. Saw introduced viewers to John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell), a serial killer who trapped his victims in deadly traps designed by him in order to “test” their will to survive and teach them a moral lesson.
