On Monday, February 24, co-founder of Cure Addiction Now (Can), a nonprofit dedicated to funding innovative research for substance use disorder (Sud), Nancy Davis welcomed guests to The Beverly Hills Hotel for its Inaugural Fundraising Evening, which raised $800,000.
The inaugural event featured a cocktail reception, seated dinner, live auction and special performances by Rufus Wainwright, Siedah Garrett, David Foster, Madison Love, Colin Love, Scout Willis, and Luke K.
For the first time ever, the event united supporters, advocates and experts to raise critical funds for Can’s groundbreaking initiatives. By fostering collaboration among leading scientists and addressing both addiction and mental health, Can is advancing toward its goal of eliminating the stigma and delivering life-saving solutions. In addition to funding scientific research, a donation will be made from the event to a local center supporting patients who suffer from substance use disorder that have been affected by the fires in Los Angeles.

After investing more than five years perfecting his Bob Dylan chops as A Complete Unknown wound its way to production, Timothée Chalamet saved his most persuasive performance for the film’s crew.
Production audio mixed Tod Maitland, part of the team nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound for the film, recalled the star coming to him 10 minutes before a key scene started shooting at New York’s Carnegie Hall. “He said, ‘I’m going live,’” Maitland recalled.
The idea had surfaced during rehearsals, but once the decision was made at the start of the 53-day shoot, decades’ worth of moviemaking customs was dispensed with in a flash. Everyone behind the camera, including director James Mangold, recognized they were entering uncharted waters. ‘We threw away all those [pre-recorded] tracks,” Maitland added. “We never had one timing mechanism, we had no earpieces. Christopher Nolan’s next big epic at Universal, The Odyssey, has added Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton.
For Patel, Page and Irwin, it’s a reteam with the 2x Oscar-winning filmmaker. Patel starred in Nolan’s 2020 Tenet, Page in 2010’s Inception, and Irwin in 2014’s Interstellar. For 2x Oscar nominee Morton, it’s her first time working with Nolan.
The foursome join a booming ensemble that counts Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie and Charlize Theron.
Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot with new Imax cameras, is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer which follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The classic explores themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. Midas Man attempts to tell the ambitious tale of one of the greatest rock bands ever to exist, The Beatles, which, surprisingly enough, is not as prolific a feat as you might think. As any Beatles fan knows, the music, rights, and image of the "Fab Four" are fiercely protected and preserved to this very day, with even the most powerful movie studios and production companies struggling to get even one of their songs included let alone half a dozen. Some movies like Across the Universe and Yesterday have managed to break through the mold largely thanks to their creative takes on the music rather than the people behind them. In regards to an official big-budget biopic, it's failed to come to fruition for decades, but it may finally become a reality should Sam Mendes' ambitious quadrilogy of Beatles films become a reality.

Before Mia Farrow gave birth to Rosemary's Baby in Roman Polanski's '60s horror classic, the Devil chose another young woman to be the mother of the antichrist.
Paramount+ has released the first trailer for Apartment 7A, which is set to premiere on the streaming service on September 27. Directed by Natalie Erika James from a script by Skylar James and Christian White, the movie adapts elements from the same novel the 1968 original is based on.

Julia Garner stars as a young, somewhat doomed dancer in Natalie Erika James’ Rosemary’s Baby prequel. Take a look at the first Apartment 7A trailer.
I know what you’re thinking. We don’t need a Rosemary’s Baby prequel. I fully agree. The original is perfect, and one of the horror genre’s most influential films. There’s no improving on that, so why even try?
Yet, after watching the trailer for Apartment 7A, I sure want a Rosemary’s Baby prequel.
Take a look at the first Apartment 7A trailer below.
Frustratingly, it’s going straight to streaming, appearing on Paramount+ on 27th September. It’s a shame, because the film looks like a visual treat.

Now that’s a legend. Missy Elliott blew the roof off Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Monday night in her historic Out of This World Tour — her first headlining tour ever. It was a celebration of her gold mind and its evolution through the years. But it was also a revelation of her impact and her one-of-a-kind artistic legacy, as her avant-funk hip-hop and R&b style has shaped the way pop music has sounded for the past three decades. Her last full album, The Cookbook, dropped nearly 20 years ago,...

Sci-fi and romance are challenging to blend, but some authors successfully intertwine the two genres for compelling narratives. Series like "The Lunar Chronicles" and "Shatter Me" effectively showcase how sci-fi and romance can work hand in hand to drive the story. When done correctly, sci-fi romance stories, like in "Winter's Orbit" and "Crier's War," create intricate worlds where love and technology coexist harmoniously.
Combining sci-fi and romance in literature is not an easy task, but some books have successfully blended the two genres. Science fiction as a genre often stands alone because there is so much to critique about the world from a sci-fi perspective without including other genres, such as romance. Nevertheless, some authors have successfully created epic sci-fi worlds while incorporating other genres. Combinations like sci-fi and horror are more common, as are fantasy and romance, the latter of which is now dubbed as its own genre, "romantasy".

Missy Elliott’s 1997 debut single “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” was a rocket upon release, and now, it’s in outer space.
NASA has transmitted “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” all the way to Venus, which NASA confirms is Missy Elliott’s favorite planet. The 158 million mile transmission was sent at the speed of light via NASA’s Deep Space Network, which is comprised of a set of giant radio antennas based in Barstow, California. Its radio signal took about 14 minutes to reach Venus.
Elliott’s track is not only the first hip-hop song to be sent to outer space — it’s the second track ever to receive the honor, (fittingly) behind The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.”

Sponsored by Amazon & Wondery, this month and next features screenings of “D.E.B.S” for L.A. Pride, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?,” “Rocky” on July 4th with fireworks, and many more, but this past Saturday’s presentation of the 2007 Beatles musical “Across the Universe” had an extra special treat for guests. Star Evan Rachel Wood was there to introduce the film via video message and offered some fascinating tidbits on making it and the struggle getting it released, as well as the impact it had on her life and career.

According to Evan Rachel Wood, one of the scenes in the 2007 Beatles themed musical Across the Universe is more based in reality than one might assume. While presenting a special Cinespia screening of the film at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Wood shared a behind-the-scenes story from the set.
Notably, Wood did not present the film in person but instead recorded a video because she is “recovering from a knee injury and not going anywhere.”
“They told me to share a funny story or moment from when we were on set,” Wood said. “Well, I’ll just say this … during the ‘I Am the Walrus’ scene, any moment you see myself and Jim Sturgess, we are actually tripping.”
Wood continued, indicating that the stars had taken real drugs while shooting parts of the hallucinogenic sequence.
The scene in question is one of the more psychedelic moments of the film. During the sequence,...

“Rosemary’s Baby” is the latest horror classic to get a many-years-later sequel – or prequel, in this case.
On Friday, Paramount+ announced that “Apartment 7A,” a prequel to Roman Polanski’s legendary psychological thriller, is coming to the streaming service this fall.
The movie tells the story of what happened in the titular New York City apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) moved in and became the unwilling mother to the son of Satan. It’s set in 1965 and follows a struggling, young dancer (three-time Emmy-winning “Ozark” star Julia Garner). After she suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.
The film also stars two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest (“Hannah and Her Sisters”), Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”) and Kevin McNally (the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series), with Marli Siu (“Everything I Know About Love...
