Subhash K Jha this looks back at Ek: The Power Of One in his series This Day That Year,
Sometimes, this column revisits films that should never be visited in the first place.
Decades ago, Raj Khosla had made Bambai Ka Babu about a man who replaces the missing son of a simple rustic family and learns a few lessons on humanism. Many years later, Manmohan Desai reworked the same theme in Roti, and Rajesh Khanna played the impostor son who takes over an impoverished son’s life.
Now in Ek: The Power Of One it’s the ceaselessly-stoic Bobby Deol who takes on the role of an impostor in a Chandigarh-based joint family who seem to specialise in making fools of themselves. The only members of this extended joint family to conduct themselves with dignity are Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Zarina Wahab.
What gives this high-velocity action flick a cutting edge is the fight sequences.

Continuing to shine the spotlight on the esteemed actress, Subhash K Jha revists Preity Zinta’s five finest films.
1. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006):
Sometimes, you hold a film close to your heart, not because the characters embrace you but because they do so for the opposite reason. The four protagonists who colonise Karan Johar’s marital romance are so distanced from their spouses and their dormant desires that you wonder why they got married! Or, why do any two people decide to opt for what many would say is an obsolete institution in the first place!! Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna (Kank) is indeed a definite sign of Karan Johar’s maturation as an artiste and a filmmaker. This is a film that derives its inspiration energy from Karan’s favourite filmmaker Yash Chopra’s interesting but abortive Silsila. Even more interesting is the casting… the role of the unfaithful...

One film in which she could have had an opportunity to show her prowess as an actor was Kal Ho Naa Ho, directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Karan Johar. However, the role went to Preity Zinta, and Rani confronted Karan Johar on the latter’s talk show, Koffee with Karan, about not taking her for the film.

‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan has been one of the most memorable films so far and is still celebrated. The film was considered to be ahead of its times and has garnered significant fan base over the years. However, in a recent interview, Pakistani actor Tauqeer Nasir made a remark on the character of Shah Rukh saying that it was copied from his character in a show ‘Parwaaz’. The actor also mentioned that he appreciates that his character was copied that’s too by the Shah Rukh, but the makers should have had given the credit for the same.
He said, “Ek film Shah Rukh ne meri ki hai. Parwaaz drame ka poora character use as it is kiya hai. I appreciate lekin usko credit dena chahiye tha. Karan Johar ko dena chahiye tha.” Further adding that even the similarities...

Preity Zinta took to social media on Friday, March 22, to share a nostalgic throwback video featuring her dance rehearsal with Shah Rukh Khan. Set to the iconic track ‘Tere Liye’ from their film ‘Veer Zaara’, the clip captures the duo practicing their steps for an award show.
In her caption, Preity reminisced about the rehearsal session, revealing how she had been sleep-deprived for two days, feeling like a zombie until Srk’s easy charm and timely jokes lifted her spirits. She also pointed out the similarity between a particular dance move in the rehearsal and a step from their earlier collaboration, ‘Jiya Jale’.
This was us rehearsing for an award show. I remember I had no sleep for 2 days and I felt like a zombie. @iamsrk helped brighten the day & the rehearsal with his easy charm & timely jokes The flip when he is holding me was the same step we did in Jiya Jale.

The high-octane trailer for Jawan has now been released by Red Chillies Entertainment. Check it out below:
"No hero stands a chance against me," promises Khan's character, who seems to straddle the line between good and evil. The trailer, which also features Khan's co-stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, and Deepika Padukone, is jam-packed with high-octane action moments.
Shah Rukh Khan Is Embracing His Modern Action Icon Status
Shah Rukh Khan isn't exactly a stranger to action movies or villainous roles. In fact, his career in movies kicked off with playing antagonists in titles such as 1993's Baazigar.

New Delhi, July 9 (Ians) When Hindi mainstream cinema strays or, otherwise, disappoints, people seek alternatives. Of course, Ott streaming is one alternative, but that is recent.
Ott content cannot cater to all tastes and, especially, the generations of Indians brought up on films. It will be a long time before Ott content is accepted as a replacement for cinema, if at all.
When Hindi filmmakers stray, as in, take their audience for granted, regional film industries come alive. Besides South, the only regional industry that has maintained continuity is Bengali cinema.
Marathi, Gujarati, Bhojpuri and Punjabi are regular film industries, but they go dormant at times. The usual culprit is oversupply.
If one Punjabi film is a success, the market is flooded with more films. Most prefer to cast the same stars. This glut weighs heavy and investors shy away.

Ayan Mukerji, who started off as Ad with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Swades and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, made his debut as feature film director with ‘Wake Up Sid’. Ayan’s second film being ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and the third being ‘Brahmastra’. All the three films being successful also happen to be with Dharma Productions and has Ranbir Kapoor as the common leading man. A hat-trick with three things in common. Is it some sort of strategy, one may ask!!
It is notable to see that with just two films to his credit, Ayan Mukerji had the courage and imagination for such a huge project and kudos to the producers and the actors to have had complete faith in Ayan’s thoughts. So much so that actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna also lent their credible support.

Project Gemini is the latest genre film to come out of Russia. I’ve reviewed several Russian science fiction films from Attraction to Sputnik to The Blackout with very mixed results. The trailer, and the fact that Well Go USA had picked it up for US and Canadian release, convinced me to give it a look.
Three years after a deadly virus has destroyed much of Earth’s plant life humanity’s fate rests on a pair of alien artefacts uncovered by scientists and kept secret until now. A revolutionary engine that makes deep space travel feasible, and an orb that may have been the seed that brought life to Earth. With this, they plan to create a new home for mankind.

With a third of the world’s population officially on lockdown (a number that is increasing every minute of every day), Netflix and other online services are experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand.
So much so, in fact, that Netflix and YouTube plan to reduce streaming quality across Europe for the next month in order to ease the strain on the Internet. These are strange times, indeed.
Be that as it may, today is April 1st, which means two things – 1) it’s April Fool’s Day, so the Internet is littered with prank videos and other shenanigans and 2) the Internet’s major streaming services have rolled out a fresh wave of content. Speaking of which, thanks to What’s On Netflix, below you’ll find a comprehensive list of all 83 titles that have been added to the online platform as of April 1st.

She has been around in Bollywood for over two decades and has been touted as one of India's finest actresses. Yet, Rani Mukerji admits harbouring doubts, because she believes if there is no self-doubt one cannot move ahead in life.
"It (self-doubt) is part of your being. If you don't have self-doubt you can't move ahead in life. You need to have some degree of insecurity or self-doubt, and you just can't be like you are the king of the world and do whatever comes your way," Rani told Ians.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday penned a heartfelt post on social media for his son and actor Abhishek Bachchan, saying he is his "dearest friend". "When he not just wears your shoes, but also shares the same number of chairs to sit on, then he is not just a son but your dearest friend," Amitabh wrote on Instagram along with a photograph in which the father and son are seen seated on three stacked chairs each and engaged in a serious conversation.
The photograph was taken on the sets of Big B's debut Tamil film Uyarndha Manithan.
Abhishek too has often expressed his love towards his father on social media. Earlier this year, when Amitabh completed his 50 years in Indian cinema, Abhishek wrote an emotional note for him, calling him his "icon".
""Icon! To me, he is so much more. My father, best friend, guide, best critic, greatest support, idol - hero!

For most people, it’s only natural to develop a crush on a celebrity. They’re in the spotlight, on magazines, doing interviews, and sometimes successfully acting in your favorite book to movie adaption.
It’s almost impossible not to fall in love with them. For me, I experienced love at first…film…I guess you can say, with an actor from a place far from Hollywood.

The stars were out tonight at The Moolah Theater and Lounge! The stars of Kshe Radio, a St. Louis institution. Original Kshe DJ Ron Stevens’ documentary about the first ten years of the station, Never Say Goodbye – The Kshe Documentary, had its world premiere at The Moolah tonight and We Are Movie Geeks was there to snap some pics. If the names Ron “Johnny Rabbit” Elz, Richard Palmese, Peter Maer, Steve Rosen, Gary Bennett, Ron Stevens, Bob Burch, Mark Klose, Jim Singer, Ted Habeck, Joy “Joy in the Morning” Grdnic, John Ulett, Gary Kolander, Rick Balis, Joe “Mama” Mason, “Radio” Rich Dalton, Pat Liston (Mama’s Pride), David Surkamp (Pavlov’s Dog), and Mike Safron (Pavlov’s Dog) don’t mean anything to you, then you likely did not grow up listening to rock music in St. Louis in the 60s through the 80s. Most were in attendance tonight and many arrived in limos.

After his father, Yash Johar, passed away, Karan Johar quickly took the reins of the family production house — Dharma Productions — and has been at the helm of countless blockbuster hits. Most us love Karan Johar for the films that he has written and directed and we can hardly wait for his next feature film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Bollywood’s much awaited Diwali film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil features an exciting ensemble cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan, and promises a journey of friendship, heartbreak and love.
So whilst we eagerly wait for the release of the films in cinemas on 28th October through Fox Star Studios, here is a list of Karan Johar films that you can catch up on!

We have loved ‘Mitwa’ from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, sung to My Name is Khan’s Sajda, got lost in the gorgeous music and lyrics of ‘Iktara’ in Wake Up Sid, and pined for love along with Ranbir and Deepika in ‘Kabira’ from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and now Karan Johar’s brings us another pyaar filled sufi love song!
Have a listen to your new favorite ‘Bulleya’ from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil sung by the fabulous Amit Mishra and the lovely Shilpa Rao! With a cool rock twist Bulleya is a song we cannot wait to see come alive onscreen. As Anushka Sharma says, “The melody of #Bulleya will touch your soul!!”
Check it out, the audio of Bulleya

It’s hard to say goodbye, as Rosie Perez and her friends on “The View” found out on Wednesday. A day after news broke that the star of Larry David‘s Broadway comedy “Fish in the Dark” will depart the ABC daytime talker at the end of this season, it was Perez’s moment to bid farewell to the show and her fans. As has been customary, the five panelists walked out to an appropriate song by the day’s musical guest — this time it was “Lovers Never Say Goodbye” by the Flamingos. Perez, Nicolle Wallace, Whoopi Goldberg, Raven-Symoné and guest Michelle Collins danced to.

Over the past few years, Dyro has exploded internationally to become one of the most well known Dutch house DJs in the electronic scene. He’s one of the powerhouses out of the Revealed Recordings camp, with a pounding big room and electro sound, and has climbed to success alongside his labelmates and good friends, Hardwell and Dannic.
In DJ Mag’s Top 100 for 2014, Dyro came out at number 27. He has been dominating Beatport charts as well, with releases including “Calling Out,” “X,” and the massive hit “Never Say Goodbye” featuring Bright Lights. We could not pick just one scene from the great Dil Toh Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. However, the two that stand out for our writers are:
That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!
