Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Apartment 7A!Paramount+s horror movie Apartment 7A dives into the dark history of the Bramford before the twists and turns of Rosemarys Baby, but still briefly brings back Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse. Apartment 7A explores the story of Terry Gionoffrio, a minor character from 1968s Rosemarys Baby who was living with Guy and Rosemarys neighbors, Minnie and Roman Castevet. While Rosemary met Terry in the original movie during a memorable scene in the laundry room, her time in the 1968 film was cut tragically short when Rosemary and Guy discovered that Terry had fatally fallen from the window of the Castevets apartment.
Apartment 7A thus includes some events occurring before the end of Rosemarys Baby, but begins several months earlier than the 1968 movie. Apartment 7A ends with the death of Terry Gionoffrio, revealing that she fatally jumped from the apartment window in order to...

In the early '80s, cable TV network HBO was notable for being the only channel on television that dared to show what others couldn't — and in the '90s, producers capitalized on this exclusive aspect about the network, and raised the stakes with HBO's original programming. Late into the evening, you could run into a famous film rerun, or you could find yourself watching comedy shows like The Kids in the Hall, The Larry Sanders Show, and Mr. Show with Bob and David. This side of comedy TV felt raunchy at its best, but it was still for laughs.

The box office underperformance of The Mummy back in 2017 notably spelled the end of Universal’s “Dark Universe” plans, the film intended to kickstart a Marvel-style universe for the Universal Monsters to hang around in. With the “Dark Universe” dead on arrival, Universal quickly pivoted to smaller one-shot horror tales, kicking off with The Invisible Man in 2020.
Made on a budget of just $7 million, director Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man scared up $144 million worldwide right before the pandemic decimated the box office, suggesting that Universal had finally figured out a way to turn their iconic monsters into box office stars again.
But then came Renfield earlier this year, a horror-comedy take on Dracula and his loyal henchman. Made on a reported production budget of $65 million, Renfield was a flop in theaters back in April of this year, sinking its fangs into just $26.7 million at the box office. Universal’s The Last Voyage of the Demeter sets sail for theatrical release this Friday, August 11, 2023, bringing to life “The Captain’s Log” from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) helms the adaptation, which stars Corey Hawkins (Kong: Skull Island, “The Walking Dead”) as Clemens, a doctor who joins Demeter’s crew.
The cast includes Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, and Nikolai Nikolaeff, with Javier Botet as Dracula.
Ahead of the film’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Hawkins about his character and the intense challenges of filming a practical effects-driven horror movie on the high seas.
It wasn’t just his character that appealed to Hawkins when coming aboard this production but the unique approach to Dracula as well.

The trailer for the long-awaited The Last Voyage of the Demeter is here, giving a glimpse of the horror based on “The Captain’s Log” chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Steering the ship is director André Øvredal, who broke out with the adventurous Troll Hunter before creeping audiences out with The Autopsy of Jane Doe and then Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The trailer for his latest, The Last Voyage of Demeter, suggests a tone somewhere in between; an epic-sized adventure packed with claustrophobic scares.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Øvredal for the trailer’s release about what we can expect to see and the horrors that await. The trailer gives us a peek at the passengers aboard the Demeter, including actors Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, and Woody Norman. The presence of all three suggests that we can expect the unexpected here.

With Major League Wrestling making its debut tonight on Reelz, the ad-supported cable channel hopes to recreate the impossible. Launched in 2006 as Reelz Channel, then best known as home to Leonard Maltin’s “Maltin on Movies” and hosting the Visual Effects Society Awards, it went through many iterations — until recently, none terribly successful. A year ago, it ranked a dim 51 in cable primetime among its key demo for advertising, adults 25-54.
And then, a miracle. On July 22, 2022, Reelz premiered “On Patrol Live,” its revival of the format behind canceled A&e hit “Live P.D.” Today, Reelz is No. 19 and its year-to-year ratings rose a whopping 274 percent
“We thought it would do well… it just blew everything out of the water,” Steve Cheskin, SVP of programming at Reelz, told IndieWire. “And it’s pulling everything up with it.”
Wisely, Cheskin will not refer to “On Patrol Live” as the return of “Live P.D.” For starters,...

Stars: James Callis, Anne Dudek, Amiah Miller, Natasha Bassett, Michael Bowen | Written by Josh Burnell | Directed by Adam Gierasch
Despite his output being less than prolific, I’ve been a huge fan of director Adam Gierasch for years – ever since I saw Autopsy and his stellar remake of Night of the Demons (one of the “good” remakes, even though the original is a stone-cold classic). House by the Lake is only his third feature since those films, though he was a part of the portmanteau Tales of Halloween in 2015. Surprisingly, unlike the rest of his oeuvre this film is the first Gierasch has directed that he hasn’t written – and it shows. House by the Lake is unlike any of his other films; feeling very much like a low-budget family drama instead of the usual balls to the wall horror Gierasch is associated with.

You have to respect the workmanlike filmmakers who keep working in our beloved horror department. Say what you will -- be it kind of critical -- of the films of Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson. but there's always something to be said for indie-friendly horror freaks who simply keep churning out the movies. (Their better efforts include Autopsy (2008) and their early and underrated remake of The Toolbox Murders from 2004, although Mortuary, Night of the Demons, and Fertile Ground have their fans as well.)
And hey, the latest collaboration between Gierasch (director) and Anderson (co-writer) is a solid little combo of good ol' occult-based horror nastiness and an appreciable dose of downbeat film noir moodiness. While it has a few solid moments of straight scares and impressive gore, Fractured works best as a low-key character piece that feels like a respectful homage to The Outer Limits or Alan Parker's Angel Heart.

Fear can be a strange thing. It can pop up at unexpected moments, and for unexplainable reasons. While some people can have irrational fears of things like clowns and spiders, there are a select few who fear places meant to be a safe haven for people in their time of need. A place that always seems to garner a mixed feeling of either dread or serenity is a hospital. They’re big buildings full of many individuals, and yet they always feel so empty. It could be the dull colors, the odd silence, or the cold that drifts down its many dark hallways that makes one uneasy. Or maybe it’s the aroma of rubbing alcohol and latex that triggers an unpleasant past experience for a person. All of these things are enough to make one think of a horror movie, because they are the perfect setting for disastrous events.

Why You Need to Select the Perfect Theater to Enjoy the Bloody Mayhem of 'Cheap Thrills’ It’s so much better than video on demand. By Matt Patches Because we live in the future where movies pre-empt their releases by popping up on Time Warner Cable or Comcast's “On Demand” platforms, I, like many others, was able to watch Cheap Thrills from the comfort of my own home. I regret the decision. Cheap Thrills is the aggressive, provocative, and wickedly comic debut from E.L. Katz, a writer-producer who made a name for himself with genre-bending films like Autopsy, A Horrible Way to Die, and The Aggression Scale. The film spirals a simple idea into every imaginable direction: After reuniting by happenstance at a bar, strapped-for-cash family man Craig (Pat Healy) and townie burnout Vince (Ethan Embry) find themselves competing for cash in a series of ridiculous, violent [...]...

Like Adam Wingard’s excellent “You’re Next”, “Cheap Thrills” is a film which seems to have been lurking around for a while, building up word of mouth from enthusiastic horror fans at a variety of genre festivals. It’s certainly a film with solid creep credentials, first-time director E.L. Katz having worked on or written the likes of “Autopsy” and “The Aggression Scale”, with a segment in the upcoming “ABCs of Death 2” on the horizon. The cast is similarly interesting, reuniting Pat Healy and Sara Paxton, so enjoyable together in Ti West’s “The Innkeepers”, who are joined by Ethan Embry (“Vacancy”) and comedian David Koechner (“Anchorman”) for what is essentially a four player show. The film opens with Healy as Craig, a downtrodden man struggling to support his family in tough economic times, an eviction notice hanging over his head. After losing his job as a mechanic, he...

Well, here we are… The ninth, and final, night of Toronto After Dark 2013 has officially passed, and the festival is wrapped for another year. Luckily, the festival ended on a pretty high note, with two of the best films of the batch closing things out; Cheap Thrills and Big Bad Wolves.
As you probably know by now, each film is preceded by a Canadian-made short, and tonight kicked off with a film titled Remember Me. The central story revolves around a man who has a strange, hereditary affliction that makes him literally begin to disappear (kind of like Marty McFly in Back To The Future) if someone isn’t thinking about him. His discovery of the disease leads to him carrying out a series of outrageous stunts and crazy acts in order to avoid completely disappearing. This may sound a little outlandish, but trust me it’s very funny. In fact,...

Cheap Thrills, the indie thriller that scored the opening “Midnighters” spot at South By Southwest, has already landed a deal. The Paris-based company Films Distribution, whose past genre acquisitions include Benjamin Rocher’s cult zombie hit The Horde, Alex de la Iglesia’s insane clown-vs-clown epic The Last Circus and Franck Richard's darkly comic cannibal flick The Pack, will bring the film to the Cannes Film Festival to sell to distributors. Produced by Snowfort Pictures (whose horror comedy Big Ass Spider! is also screening at SXSW), Cheap Thrills is the directorial debut of screenwriter E.L. Katz (Home Sick, Autopsy). It stars Pat Healy and Sara Paxton – who previously starred in Ti West's The Innkeepers – along with David Koechner, Ethan Embry and Amanda Fuller. The story by Trent Haaga (Deadgirl) and David Chirchirillo (Dances with Werewolves) involves a new father facing eviction whose life is turned upside down when...

“This year, we wanted to make people laugh before we made them squirm,” New Artists founder/producer Gabe Cowan tells Fango. “Both films are funny and intense, and defy genre in their own ways.”
Milo stars Gillian Jacobs, Ken Marino and genre regular Peter Stormare. Marino plays Ducan, a man whose stomach issues prove to be much more than irritable bowel syndrome: A demon child is inhabiting his intestines. How’s that for nausea inducing? Jacobs plays Sarah, Ken’s stressful wife, and Stormare is his therapist Highsmith. This is the first feature from director Jacob Vaughan since 2006’s narrative-bending Cassidy Kids; this time, he teamed up with writer Benjamin Hayes (True Blood, Angel Of Death) for the Milo script, so it’s certain to be equal parts blood and camp. The producing team is comprised of Cowan and longtime producing partner/New Artists co-founder John Suits, along with the Duplass brothers and Adele Romanski.

Adam Gierasch (Night of the Demons, Autopsy) is in post-production on his latest film, Schism, and we spotted some sales art for the thriller at the American Film Market. Written by Gierasch and Jace Anderson, the film stars Callum Blue, Vinnie Jones and Ashlynn Yennie.
Blue plays Dylan White, who leads a normal, if boring, life. Having woken from a coma 8 months before with absolutely no memory of who he is or where he's from, he's looking to start again with as little drama as possible. He has a job that takes no effort and a girlfriend that gives the right amount of commitment to fit easily into his purposefully empty life. He is just fine with rolling along, going with the flow, until he begins unexplainably sliding between our world and another dimension; a world filled with unimaginable horror sand one in which he has no control.

Adam Gierasch directs and co-writes this psychological jolter, alongside partner Jace Anderson (the two also handled entertaining genre efforts, Autopsy and Night of the Demons). For those who dig a more grindhouse visual effect, this one may really sate the appetite: the entire picture was filmed on Super 16, which could prove to look damn cool. Callum Blue (Colombiana), Vinnie Jones (Midnight Meat Train), Ashlynn Yennie (The Humman Centipede), Nicole Laliberte (Dinner for Schmucks) and Jon Eyez(Texas Killing Fields) make up the featured ensemble.

The first images from Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson's new flick Schism are here, and just as we predicted, they're filled with perversion, lunacy, and overall mayhem. How we love this duo. Huzzah!
Written by Adam Gierasch and his partner Jace Anderson (both of whom teamed for Night of the Demons and Autopsy), with Gierasch once again in the director's chair, Callum Blue ("Smallville"), Vinnie Jones (Snatch, Midnight Meat Train), and Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede) are all set to star.
Schism follows "Dylan White," who works as a cook in Baton Rouge, and his girlfriend, "Brandy". Things are great for our duo until strange events prompt him to seek out the truth about himself -- following clues, Dylan discovers that he has a dark past in New Orleans. Can he right his past wrongs and find redemption for his sins?
Look for more on this one as we get it!

The feature will be directed by Terry Nemeroff and will star Leslie Zemeckis, Peter Facinelli, Guy Pearce and John Goodman.
