The Matrix Resurrections was one of our favorite films of 2021, an auteur franchise film thoroughly unafraid to plunge down the rabbit hole of Lana Wachowski’s imagination—simultaneously deconstructing The Matrix’s monumental impact, expanding the dense lore of its sequels, taking wry metafictional potshots at life, art, and capitalism in the 21st century, and telling a disarmingly personal story of an artist’s relationship to work, self, and reality. Not least among these idiosyncrasies is the handpicked writing team who assisted Lana in developing its script: two novelists better-known for their award-winning fiction than action-packed Hollywood fare.
Enter Aleksandar Hemon: Bosnian-born writer, frequent New Yorker contributor, Princeton professor of creative writing, and author of three novels––each noticeably devoid of airships, robots, and kung fu. Though this background would hardly suggest him for such a position, his decade-spanning friendship and collaboration with the Wachowskis led him to join...

Sky has revealed a first look trailer for new Sky Original drama ‘The Lazarus Project,’ a riveting and gripping 8-part action thriller from acclaimed writer Joe Barton.
When George (Essiedu) wakes up one day and finds himself reliving a day from months ago, he thinks he’s lost his mind. All of his recent milestones have been undone, including his success at work and his marriage to the love of his life Sarah (Clive). Worst of all, he seems to be the only one who has noticed what’s happened.
That is until he meets Archie (Mohindra), who recruits George for the Lazarus Project – a secret organisation that has harnessed the ability to turn back time every time the world is at threat of extinction. Like George, those who work at Lazarus are the few people on earth with the ability to remember the events that are undone when time goes back.

A new trailer for “The Matrix Resurrections” has landed, bringing with it more eye-popping action sequences and more questions about Lana Wachowski’s big return to the iconic action franchise. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are back as franchise protagonists Neo and Trinity, but the characters no longer remember each other following the events of the original “Matrix” trilogy. Franchise newcomer Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Morpheus, but he’s not Lawrence Fishburne’s iteration of the character that fans love.
“I think what the script provided was a new narrative and some new opportunities that did make room within the Matrix universe for a new Morpheus,” Abdul-Mateen II teased to Entertainment Weekly in October. “I play a character who’s definitely aware of the history of the Matrix [and] the history of Morpheus. This character is on a journey of self-discovery. There’s a lot in our story that’s about growth,...

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss aren’t the only talents reuniting with filmmaker Lana Wachowski in “The Matrix Resurrections.” The fourth installment in “The Matrix” film franchise is co-written by David Mitchell, author of “Cloud Atlas.” Wachowski worked with Mitchell on the 2012 film adaptation of that novel, and then they joined forces to write “The Matrix Resurrections” with “The Lazarus Project” author Aleksandar Hemon. Mitchell teased “Resurrections” in an interview with Greek newspaper To Vima (via Total Film magazine).
“I saw the film in Berlin in September. It’s really good,” Mitchell said. “I cannot tell you what this film is about, but I could explain what it is not. It’s certainly not yet one more sequel, but something autonomous that contains the three Matrix that preceded in a really ingenious way. It’s a very beautiful and weird creation. It also achieved a couple of things that we...

The fourth film in The Matrix franchise was announced on August 20th 2019 by Warner Bros. Had the global health crisis not put life on hold globally last year, we would have seen the movie released on 21st May 2021; odds are you'd be here reading a review, or an "ending explained" article. We'll now have to wait until 22nd December 2021 to catch the latest installment, though, so it will be a bit more time for those articles as well.
In the meantime, let us take a few moments to review the things that we do know thus far about the upcoming fourth installment in the hugely popular franchise. Please note that readers unfamiliar with the universe of The Matrix films may encounter spoilers regarding the earlier films and other mixed media associated with the franchise. These however, could well prove pertinent when discussing The Matrix 4.

The Stephen King Renaissance that began in 2017 will resurge with a vengeance in 2019-and beyond. Fans of the bestselling author and Master of Horror can look forward to new seasons of Castle Rock and Mr. Mercedes, as well as feature film adaptations with It: Chapter Two and Pet Sematary coming down the pike in 2018, followed by The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep and From a Buick 8 in 2020. Add to this ever-expanding list The Tommyknockers, currently brewing over at Universal (who beat out Netflix and Sony for the property in a fierce bidding war).
The Tommyknockers will be written by Jeremy Slater who amassed a sizable and rabid following after serving as creator and showrunner for The Exorcist TV series on Fox. As for feature films, Slater wrote screenplays for The Lazarus Project, Pet, Death Note, and 2015's Fantastic Four (although we'll forgive him that last entry). For those looking for proof of what fandom can achieve, behold: The script for the “‘Sense8 Special,” which will wrap up the fan favorite Netflix drama following its abrupt cancelation this spring, physically exists!
While initially canceled following the release of Season 2, fan outcry led Netflix to reverse that decision and produce a two-hour finale, and as seen in the Instagram photo above from star Miguel Angel Silvestre (who plays no-longer-closeted movie star Lito on the show), watermarked scripts have been distributed to the actors.
Beyond proof-of-life, the cover page reveals a number of important details about the upcoming production. For one thing, Lana J. Wachowski (the first time she’s used the letter J with her name?) is credited with writing the script alongside David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon. Both men are novelists, with Mitchell having a pre-established connection to the Wachowski tribe: He wrote the original novel “Cloud Atlas,...

The horror lover inside of me wants to defend The Lazarus Effect against other mainstream failures, but the critic in me can’t let that happen. It’s a mess, but not on the catastrophic level of so many other generically churned-out teenage slashers (like Ouija or The Pyramid).
Director David Gelb strives to fashion together something more, something that blends the conflicting ideologies of religion and science in a heavyweight debate, but scribes Luke Dawson and Jeremy Slater didn’t get that memo. The talents of Gelb are outweighed by the overbearing redundancy of Dawson and Slater’s nostalgically horrendous script, as the fires of Horror Film Hell engulf yet another misguided victim. Blumhouse is so close to something special with The Lazarus Effect, but unfortunately, it’s still oh-so-far from heavenly.

With everyone jumping all over that Demonic trailer we posted yesterday for looking generic, just consider a few things before casting the same aspersions onto the latest Blumhouse Production, The Lazarus Project.
This movie has a very interesting cast of indie talent including Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guarenteed, The One I Love), Olivia Wilde (Drinking Buddies, Tron: Legacy), Donald Glover (Community, *Spider-Man*) Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger. Definitely not the usual kind of cast. The film also looks pretty darn scary based on this trailer. Gotta say, I have high hopes for this one.

Could a seemingly innocent 15-year-old girl be the prime suspect of savage murders taking place in town? The answer could be ‘yes’ if she’s possessed by a demon like Regan was in The Exorcist. In NBC’s upcoming exorcism drama, The Possession of Maggie Gill, two detectives will explore the primal and perilous effects of paranormal activity surrounding a teenager.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has committed to a script for Amblin Television’s The Possession of Maggie Gill. John Glenn (The Lazarus Project) will handle scripting duties and will also executive produce alongside Adam Kane and Amblin’s Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Harris Fishman. We have the show’s official synopsis (courtesy of THR!):
“Maggie centers on the Gills, a loving a middle-class family in Eugene, Ore., who find themselves in the midst of crisis when paranormal occurrences begin to affect the everyday fabric of their home.

Be careful what you say about the music when you come out of a movie theater, composer Brian Tyler may be listening. Tyler has a ritual: The day one of his movies opens, he and the director theater hop, checking out how several audiences are reacting to the film and to the music. “I just pop my head in to see how the crowd is doing, kind of see how everyone is reacting,” Tyler says. “I really like to stand outside the theater and see if anyone is humming the music.” Tyler is spending a lot of time at local cineplexes this month: two movies he scored opened last Friday, Aug. 8: box office champ, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and “Into the Storm.” A third film, “The Expendables 3,” opens this Friday, Aug. 15. For “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Tyler composed an old-school, often lush, symphonic score. He and director Jonathan Liebesman...

Handsome American actor best known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the Fast and Furious blockbuster movie franchise
Paul Walker, who has died aged 40 in a car accident, combined unthreatening star charisma with preppy good looks and a canny commercial sensibility. Paul Walker, who has died aged 40 in a car accident, combined unthreatening star charisma with preppy good looks and a canny commercial sensibility. Ready for Piper Perabo and Covert Affairs Season 2?
The USA network has unleashed a brand new Covert Affairs Season 2 teaser and that means there will be plenty of actress Piper Perabo to go around. Yes, Perabo is back in all new episodes as secret agent Annie Walker. Take a look at what’s new for the remainder of Season 2, which returns to airwaves this coming November.
Perabo isn’t the only actor looking sharp in the rest of the season. I’m a fan of Sendhil Ramamurthy, formerly of Heroes, who definitely turns up the heat as Jai Wilcox. Of course Christopher Gorham is still the blind tech ops team member, Auggie, and Peter Gallagher returns as Aurthur Campbell. Former House series recurring actress Anne Dudek comes back, too, as Danielle.
Lies? Half lives? Betrayal? Uh-oh! Yes, the video reveals the season will definitely continue to get dangerous. Doesn’t...

Travis McCoy goes crazy in a music video which supports his latest single "The Manual". In this clip, the Gym Class Heroes frontman is sharing screen with T-Pain who lends his vocal on the hook.
"The Manual" is one of the new materials which appears in Travis McCoy's newly-released debut album "Lazarus". In addition to having additional verses from T-Pain, the song also features another Nappy Boy member Young Cash.
The album itself was originally titled "The Lazarus Project", but Travis decided to change it after learning that there has been a big screen project with the same title. It arrived in the United States on June 8. "I've always wanted this album to come out in the summer, because that's when most of the memorable music drops," he previously told MTV. "You want music to have a good time to, music to connect to. You wanna play it at the party.

A picture to be featured on the front page of Travis McCoy's upcoming solo debut album "Lazarus" has been unleashed. In the new artwork, a man who is supposedly the Gym Class Heroes' singer is seen flying high in the air with a set of recording tools tied on his back.
"Lazarus" is slated to be released across the United States on June 8. A Bruno Mars-featuring song titled "Billionaire" has been released as the first treatment of the album. Other artists who reportedly make contribution to the upcoming release are T-Pain, Patrick Stump, Cee-Lo and Janelle Monae.
The album was originally titled "The Lazarus Project", but Travis decided to change it after learning that there has been a big screen project with the same title. He explained to MTV. "So we're just calling the record 'Lazarus' now. It's more to the point...It's hard to put a stamp on the record.

Travis McCoy has a brand new solo single titled "Billionaire" coming out for listening pleasure. Debuted online on MTV.com, the track is confirmed to serve as the lead single from his forthcoming debut album "Lazarus".
"It's me talking about what would happen if I would somehow manage to become a billionaire. What would I do with the money?" he explained to MTV about what he wants to tell in the song. "Don't get it wrong, I'm far from a billionaire."
"I think I just made it out the 'thousandaire' category. So it's about what I would do with the money and, the same time, it opens up the question, if you were in a position to do something with a decent chunk of money, what would you do?"
Featuring Bruno Mars, the song has been sent to radios and put out for digital download. A companion video is currently...

Travis "Travie" McCoy
First things first: Travis McCoy wants to be known as "Travie" these days. After all, that's how he's always been known amongst his family and friends.
"I mean, anybody who knows me already calls me that. No one in my circle calls me Travis. Even my family, at a young age started calling me 'Travie,' " he said, cracking up slightly. "So I want people to feel comfortable calling me 'Travie.' It's almost like inviting people in. You can be part of the family, so long as you buy the album."
And that brings us to the second point — his long-in-the-works solo album, which McCoy wants you to know is no longer called The Lazarus Project, for legal reasons ... involving Paul Walker.

In the grand scheme of things, one year isn't all that long, but in industry terms, it's an eternity. That's how long it's been since Gym Class Heroes released The Quilt (actually, it's been like 15 months, but, hey, who's counting?), an album that was supposed to carry them to the next level but, thanks to an increased focus on hip-hop, confounded most Gch fans, and quickly disappeared from the charts.
And when that disappointment was coupled with frontman Travis McCoy's talk of a solo album, well, those 15 months started to seem a bit longer — and the wait began to make many Gym Class fans worry about the fate of their beloved band.
But according to McCoy,...

Fox has "Fallen" for a vigilante drama from "Eagle Eye" co-writer John Glenn.
The project, produced by 20th and the Chernin Co., is described as a real-world drama that revolves around a group of vigilante "fallen" angels who take down the criminal and the corrupt in New York while falling in love, battling demons and seeking their own personal revenge.
Glenn is executive producing with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope, the Chernin Co.'s TV head.
Chernin's producing deal with News Corp. has several blind production commitments at the Fox network built into it. It is not clear whether "Fallen" would fall under any of them.
In addition to "Fallen," the Chernin Co. also has a multicamera comedy by Bobby Bowman set up at Fox.
Glenn, who wrote and directed the 2008 feature "The Lazarus Project" starring Paul Walker, and the 2006 ABC pilot "Drift," is repped by Icm.

State Of Play
Seeing as Craig has already covered State Of Play I won’t go into much detail here.
I suggest you read his detailed review and all I’m going to add is that it really is an intelligent ensemble piece that has good acting from an impressive cast.
It’s nice to see a smart American film for a change, one that actually has something to say and a message to bring across. It’s a shame that it didn’t light up the box office because it deserved success.
Definitely worth your time if you are looking for a higher level of entertainment.
State Of Play is also available on Blu-Ray
Fast & Furious
The 4th in the series reunites the original cast for more pedal to the metal action.
This time Brian O’Conner and Dominic Toretto join forces to bring an evil heroin importer to justice.

Along with the rest of the original crew, Paul Walker is back in the driver.s seat for Fast And Furious. This is the continuation that feels more like a sequel than the past two films. And Paul is back as Brian O.Conner, a cop with a heart of gold. After doing a handful of smaller films including The Death And Life Of Bobby Z and The Lazarus Project, he seemed to have a fun experience returning to the fast lane of F&F. When I spoke to Paul on the set of back a few months ago, I...

We have some great images in from the next film in the franchise from Universal Pictures. Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and Laz Alonzo! This is the fourth film in the series, the last of which was "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" which neither Walker nor Diesel starred in. The new film reunites the original stars and looks set to bring in some big box office numbers for Universal. Diesel makes his return soon with the Mathieu Kassovitz' directed "Babylon A.D." which sees theatres on August 29th. Based on the novel written by Maurice G. Dantec which Eric Besnard ("Ca$h") adapts. Walker's been quite this year with just a single project on offer in the upcoming "The Lazarus Project" helmed by John Glenn who also writes alongside Evan Astrowsky. He stars with Linda Cardellini in the drama thriller also called "The Heaven Project.
