J. Smith-Cameron has been cast in Hulu’s upcoming series about the Murdaugh family, Variety has learned exclusively.

Smith-Cameron will appear in the untitled true crime drama alongside previously announced leads Patricia Arquette and Jason Clarke.

The series is based on the true story of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh as well as the reporting of Mandy Matney, journalist and creator of the “Murdaugh Murders Podcast.” Arquette will play Maggie and Clarke will play Alex.

The Murdaugh family were powerful players in the Lowcountry region of South Caroline, wielding great legal and political influence. But for the better part of a decade, the family has been accused of involvement in a variety of crimes, ranging from fraud to murder. The series will follow the love story of two Black teens Keisha (Lovie Simone) and Justin (Michael Cooper Jr.), young athletes who become each other’s first love, which ultimately impacts them for the rest of their lives. Forever will be set in 2018 Los Angeles.

Simone will play Keisha Clark, a confident track star with dreams for life after high school. Meanwhile, Cooper Jr. will portray Justin Edwards, who dreams of playing division-one basketball and achieving more than his successful parents.

Mara Brock Akil, known for creating the sitcom Girlfriends and the drama Being Mary Jane, serves as the show’s executive producer and showrunner. According to Ikeda, the publication staff greatly favored men over women due to "traditional" views about the roles of men and women in Japanese society. "When I was working on The Rose of Versailles, women couldn't advance in their careers, and I was paid half the salary of my male peers. I once protested, asking, 'Why am I paid half when we're in the same magazine and have similar popularity?' The response shocked me.

Jesse Eisenberg hadn’t seen “Succession” before casting Kieran Culkin to play his cousin in his Holocaust-memorial road movie “A Real Pain.” So the writer/director told IndieWire back in January 2024 when “A Real Pain” world-premiered at Sundance. Sam Raimis new horror-thriller movie may soon have a new cast member as, per Deadline, Rachel McAdams is in talks to star in the film. Raimi is directing and producing Send Help, a new film from 20th Century Studios. The casting news is not definite, as reports say the negotiations are still in the initial stage.

Send Help marks Raimis first foray into the horror genre in 15 years since the release of 2009s Drag Me to Hell. The movie is said to be a horror-thriller set on an island with a story in the middle of Rob Reiners Misery adaptation and Robert Zemeckis Castaway. Send Help is based on a script by Damien Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote Baywatch. Zainab Azizi will produce, representing Raimi Productions.

Rachel McAdams is in talks to star in Sam Raimi’s Send Help, the horror-thriller from 20th Century Studios, which he is producing and directing.

Sources tell us that these negotiations are in early stages, and nothing is definite at this point. The news follows Deadline’s exclusive earlier in July, which broke the news that Raimi had boarded the project not officially greenlit by the studio.

Billed as a two-hander horror-thriller set on an island, the story is somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway. Send Help is based on an original script by Baywatch scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Zainab Azizi will also produce under the Raimi Productions banner, and the film is expected to nab a theatrical release.

I also thought a bit about the great Todd Haynes 1995 drama Safe, with Julianne Moore hiding behind a gas mask to avoid the dangers in our environment. This film falls short of those but is memorable enough to make an impression all its own.

Hulu is giving Shark Week a run for its money this July with not one but seven National Geographic specials dropping on the streaming service at the start of the month. Shueisha -- Japan's largest publishing company and the entity behind the likes of Weekly Shonen Jump -- has launched a new manga portal site specifically for josei and shojo series called Rimacomi+. The new website includes 94 series, including big-name favorites such as Blue Spring Ride and Honey Lemon Soda, from eight different Shueisha-owned magazines.

Per Japanese news outlet PR Times, Rimacomi+ aims to be a "comprehensive distribution site for manga works for girls and women that publishes the series and the latest reading of the eight magazines Ribon, Margaret, Bessatsu Margaret, Deluxe Margaret, Cocohana, Cookie, Kimikoi and Manga Mee." Rimacomi+ is a free platform with both new and ongoing series, including the beloved Blue Spring Ride, Honey Lemon Soda and Pink & Habanero, among many others.
