Supernatural is in a class of its own, following the charismatic Winchester brothers around the country as they take on ghosts, vampires, demons, and more, all while preventing the apocalypse—a few times. The cult fantasy series has been off the air for almost five years, and audiences are looking for something to fill that void. While no other show is quite like the beloved horror series, there are plenty of amazing fantasy shows—some with overlapping elements.
Supernatural's major themes include family, good versus evil, sacrifice, and perseverance. The series also has a darkly comedic tone and a killer soundtrack. There are some other great fantasy shows, old and new, that fans can watch to scratch the Supernatural itch.

UFA’s long-serving CEO Nico Hofmann is stepping down from his post and becoming Chairman of Fremantle’s German powerhouse, with former Rtl and exec Sascha Schwingel replacing him.
Hofmann has been chief exec of the Deutschland 83 and Generation War maker since 2017 but has been with the company for more than a quarter of a century. In that sense, his exit from the CEO post marks the end of an era.
Hofmann had joined in 1998 to set up TeamWorx, which is now UFA Fiction, and went on to produce many of Germany’s best-travelling drama series. Notably Deutschland 83 was the first from the country to air on a U.S. network.
His replacement, Schwingel, was most recently Deputy Chief Content Officer of Rtl Deutschland, overseeing the likes of Rtl Television, Rtl+ and Vox, where he was previously CEO. He is well known to Hofman having started his career at TeamWorx.

ZDF, ARD lead TV rivals for German prize
COLOGNE, Germany -- German public broadcasters have again put their commercial rivals to shame, dominating the nominations for this year's German Television Awards, the nation's top TV honors. Pubcaster ZDF led the pack with nominations in 24 categories, including multiple noms for historic miniseries Dresden and telefilm Die Nachrichten (The News). Sister channel ARD was close behind with 21 noms, with such series as multicultural comedy Turkish For Beginners and legal drama Family Law among those singled out. Of the commercial channels, RTL was the best represented, with 10 nominations. While drama and news programming was dominated by the pubcasters, RTL excelled with such comedy and entertainment shows as hit sitcom Everyone Loves Jimmy, about a Turkish-German family, and Let Dance! the local version of Dancing With the Stars.

ProSiebenSat.1 boasts strong Q1<BR clear="none"/>
BERLIN -- German broadcaster ProSiebenSat .1 posted stronger profits and sales figures Thursday as speculation continued that the Munich-based channel group is about to be put up for sale by owner Haim Saban. Thanks to a mild recovery in the German advertising market, ProSieben managed to boost sales 8.2% in the first quarter to ?x20AC;465.3 million ($592.5 million) and inched up net profit to ?x20AC;30.7 million ($39.1 million) from ?x20AC;28.7 million in the same period last year. Berlin-based channel Sat.1 was the big earner for the group, with sales up 4% to ?x20AC;194.1 million ($247.2 million) and pre-tax profits up a staggering 68% to ?x20AC;32.8 million ($41.8 million). Sat.1's home-grown programming, particularly big-budget miniseries Dresden and red-hot Telenovela That's Life have boosted the channel's market share and, more importantly, pulled in a much younger demographic for the traditionally older-skewing net.

U.K.'s C4 picks up German 'Dresden' mini
CANNES -- Britain's Channel 4 has picked up Dresden, the big-budget miniseries from pubweb ZDF on the Allied firebombing of the German city in 1945. Directed by Roland Suso Richter (The Tunnel) and starring German actress Felicitas Woll and Brit actor John Light, the two-parter was a ratings smash for ZDF, drawing 12.7 million viewers for a 31% market share on its airing March 5-6. That was the best performance for a TV movie in Germany since 1992. Dresden is the first dramatic retelling of the bombing from a German perspective. The subject is controversial. Some historians describe the bombings as a war crime because they deliberately targeted civilians and there was no military purpose to the attacks. Others say the Dresden air raids were justified as punishment for the Nazi Holocaust. Dresden is the latest in a wave of high-gloss historic miniseries out of Germany that have been generating mega ratings at home and significant interest abroad. Dresden producers teamWorx also scored with Storm Flood for RTL, about the devastating floods in Hamburg in 1962 and Airlift for Sat.1 on the 1948 American-run airlift to provide supplies to the citizens of West Berlin who had been cut off from the world by the Soviet army. Dresden has already sold to Canal Plus and France 2 in France, to Telecinco in Spain and Rai Cinema for Italy. Sales agent Beta Cinema says it expects to close several more territories during MIPTV.

'Dresden' hits new mark for German mini ratings
COLOGNE, Germany -- Dresden: The Inferno, a $12 million miniseries from German production heavyweight teamWorx, set new standards for German-made telefilms Sunday night, grabbing a record audience of 12.7 million and a 32.6% market share for pubcaster ZDF. That represents the best-ever rating for a telefilm in Germany since local ratings agency GfK began collecting data in 1992. The second half of Dresden was to air Monday night. Directed by Roland Suso Richter, the mini recounts the devastating bombing of the city of Dresden by Allied forces in February 1945, shortly before the end of World War II. At least 35,000 people, virtually all of them civilians, were killed in the attack. Richter's miniseries breaks new ground by focusing on the suffering of ordinary Germans during the war. Dresden is the second historic success for teamWorx. Last month, The Storm Tide, the company's big-budget retelling of the catastrophic 1962 flooding of Hamburg, won an impressive 31.3% market share for commercial channel RTL, with 11.2 million viewers tuning in.
