The following contains major spoilers for Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, Episode 7, "Marya Was Here," now streaming on Paramount+. It also contains discussion of human trafficking and sexual assault.
Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, Episode 7, "Marya Was Here" is the Paramount+ show's toughest episode to stomach since the Season 1 prison riot. It's an episode that goes well beyond the series' usual grim plot points into something universally cruel, and on top of that, it destroys one of the show's best relationships. While terrible things happen all the time in Kingstown, they're rarely as brutal as this.
"Marya Was Here" centers around a piece of information that Iris gave Mike earlier: that the Russians are trafficking a group of young women into the United States. The title is a reference to one of them, as young Marya writes that phrase on the back of a bus seat shortly before she and everyone else aboard are murdered.

Donald Sutherland was the award-winning thespian who has starred in dozens of titles throughout his career before his death on June 20, 2024. Let’s take a look back at 16 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Despite decades of acclaimed work, the Canadian-born star has yet to earn an Oscar nomination, though he did receive an honorary statuette for his body of work in 2017. The Golden Globes recognized him with nominations for “M*A*S*H” (Best Comedy Actor in 1970), “Ordinary People” (Best Drama Actor in 1980) and “Without Limits” (Best Supporting Actor in 1998), so it certainly wasn’t for lack of good options. Additionally, he reaped a joint BAFTA bid in 1973 for his performances in “Don’t Look Now” and “Steelyard Blues.” Since Sutherland continues to land juicy roles to this day, perhaps his overdue Oscar narrative could pay off sooner than we think.

Kiefer Sutherland took to social media to remember his late father, the legendary actor Donald Sutherland, who died on June 20 at 88 years old after a long illness. The “24” and “The Lost Boys” actor remembered his father as a performer who loved his craft and an actor who was one of Hollywood’s most important stars.
“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” Kiefer wrote in a statement on his social media platforms. “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

Donald Sutherland, the tall, lean and long-faced Canadian actor who became a countercultural icon with such films as “The Dirty Dozen,” “Mash,” “Klute” and “Don’t Look Now,” and who subsequently enjoyed a prolific and wide-ranging career in films including “Ordinary People,” “Without Limits” and the “Hunger Games” films, died Thursday in Miami after a long illness, CAA confirmed. He was 88.
For over a half century, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor, who received an honorary Oscar in 2017, memorably played villains, antiheroes, romantic leads and mentor figures. This November, after three full years of waiting, fans of FX’s “Fargo” will be treated to a brand new season. Unlike the anthology series’ fourth iteration, which served as a prequel to its first two, the upcoming fifth batch of episodes will tell an entirely original Midwestern crime story. Leading the season’s star-studded cast is Jon Hamm, who has his sights set on earning his first Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor Golden Globe nomination this winter. Since he was already honored in the corresponding drama series category for “Mad Men” in 2008 and 2016, his possible new victory would make him the seventh man to clinch Golden Globes for performances on both continuing and non-continuing TV programs.
Hamm, who picked up four additional Golden Globe bids for “Mad Men” between 2009 and 2013, has already begun his splashy 2023 return to prestige TV by playing a new supporting role on the third season of “The Morning Show.

It has been exactly 50 years since Donald Sutherland earned his first Golden Globe nomination, and the tireless actor has marked the occasion by garnering yet another one. His bid for the HBO miniseries “The Undoing” is his ninth overall and, at age 85, he stands out as this year’s oldest nominee in any acting category. Though it has been 13 years since the HFPA last recognized him, he has remained remarkably active and has now proven to be as serious a contender as ever.

British reggae outfit Steel Pulse unveiled the lead single, “Cry Cry Blood,” for their first album in 15 years, Mass Manipulation, out May 17th via Rootfire Cooperative and the band’s own imprint, Wiseman Doctrine.
“Cry Cry Blood” is a meditative rocker with deftly placed horns, guitars and strings bubbling up above the song’s thumping groove. There have been a lot of ups and downs for Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) these last few years. He’s seen a loved one die in his arms, expanded his criminal empire from Birmingham to London, and forged an uneasy alliance with a crazed jeweler (Tom Hardy). BBC Two has released the trailer for the show’s fourth season, which adds Adrien Brody to the cast. Watch below.

“We’re going back,” Tommy says as it opens, his words accompanied by a breathy cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” “Today we end this war between us.” It’s expectedly moody from there, with glimpses of Brody’s character (“We are an organization of a different dimension,” he says ominously) and combatants on both side of the Shelbys’ ongoing conflicts.

Alex Garland first made a name for himself in Hollywood as the screenwriter of “28 Days Later,” “Sunshine,” “Never Let Me Go,” and “Dredd,” but it wasn’t until he decided to step into the director’s chair with “Ex Machina” that he became a household name for cinephiles. This week, Washington, D.C., made headlines as the city’s Metropolitan Police Department recently began tweeting out missing-person reports — with an alarming number of them for young black women and Latinas.
Though officials have insisted that the numbers reflect only the fact that the department recently started using social media to help close cases, many have voiced concern that the numbers reflect a much larger problem in how commonly people of color go missing, both in the nation’s capital and around the country, as well as over serious gaps in media coverage of these cases as opposed to those about white people.

The smiles were few and far between.
There is so much hurt and betrayal circulating on The Fosters Season 4 Episode 17. Just about every member of the Foster clan is in dire need of a hug.
There were some good things that happened during the installment, too.
Human trafficking is one of those hot button issues that we're fortunately becoming more and more aware of these days. Especially, if you live in one of the hot areas where it's prevalent and on the rise.
That's something I can relate to, and obviously the Adams-Foster family residing in California, means that Stef would encounter it too. Her first case on her first day at her new job was one involving a teen sex worker by the name of Diamond.
It can't possibly be the first time in Stef's long career as a cop, that she encountered a sex worker, let alone one who is a teenager.

According to her husband, Sherri Papini‘s face was covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings. The bridge of her nose was broken. She was branded, and her long blond hair was chopped off.
When private investigator Bill Garcia heard Keith’s account of seeing his wife Sherri for the first time after her release by captors, Garcia thought immediately the abduction was the work of sex traffickers.
“I literally got the chills. I know who it is, I know who did this,” Gracia, who worked with Papini’s family while Sherri was missing, tells People.

A private investigator and veteran human trafficking expert believes California mom Sherri Papini‘s case has the hallmarks of sex trafficking.
In a sit-down with The Today Show, Bill Garcia, who was hired by Papini’s family during the 22 days she was missing, told the show, “I suspect based in the types of injuries Sherri incurred, the beatings, the broken nose, the cut hair, especially the chains and the branding, indicate that most likely it was one of these sex trafficking groups.”
Garcia is not involved with the current police investigation, according to The Today Show.

Pamela Anderson dropped jaws in an elegant black Ekaterina Kukhareva gown at the Unitas Gala Against Human Trafficking in NYC on Tuesday night. The Baywatch beauty was joined by her younger son, Dylan Jagger Lee; the 18-year-old aspiring model posed for photos with his mom on the red carpet before heading inside, where they sat together for the event. Dylan shared a photo of the duo on Instagram that evening, writing, "Great event for a great cause." Dylan, along with his 20-year-old brother, Brandon, is the son of Pam and her former husband Tommy Lee. Pam recently made headlines when she penned an opinion piece about the dangers of pornography for the Wall Street Journal. The former Playboy centerfold argued that porn "killed" the men's magazine and that the "terrible addiction . . . is ruining relationships." Pam also alluded to the infamous 1995 sex tape featuring herself and Tommy - the tape was...

Oscar-winning Director, Jeffrey Brown, started the Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for his film Sold last week, in an effort to heighten awareness of child trafficking and to rescue & rehabilitate children. Based on the international bestselling novel by Patricia McCormick, Sold tells the story of an extraordinary thirteen-year-old girl who is trafficked across the Nepal-India border and forced to work in a brothel in Kolkata, India.
Educating a child to the age of 16 reduces their risk of being trafficked by 80%. This is why funds raised through Indiegogo will be used to spread trafficking awareness through the film's release, and to prevent child trafficking through education in areas where children are most at risk, including India and areas affected by Nepal's recent earthquake.
The campaign highlights perks rewarded to funders, including packages with the acclaimed stars of Sold, three nights in London and breakfast with Gillian Anderson, Karaoke with David Arquette at his new club, Blind Dragon, in West Hollywood, and other rewards upon donation, including a chance to win a free trip to his/her choice of India or Nepal. Learn more about these perks and take action here.
Charities and Organizations fighting against Human Trafficking have come out in support of the film and Indiegogo campaign, including Childreach International, Walk Free, Ecpat, United Way, Rotary Clubs International and Stolen Youth.
Sold has been awarded the Jury Award, Best Narrative Feature, Audience Award, Best Feature and was shown as the opening screening in four film festivals in 2014.
Director Jeffrey Brown says, “The more funds we raise, the more cities we will open our film in and the bigger impact we will have. We are using our film to support initiatives which will keep girls from being trafficked by keeping them in school in vulnerable communities."

Per CNN, the hour-long special is a gritty, raw look at the human trafficking industry in the United States, the lives of children caught in its web, and those fighting back against this form of modern-day slavery. The special will ask and answer pertinent questions like: Where does sex trafficking start? How do girls get manipulated into it? How hard is it for law...

"I could talk about this for days," says Mira Sorvino, and I believe her. Unfortunately, we don't have days, and after the 47-year-old actress tells me about her work as a Un Goodwill Ambassador to Combat Human Trafficking – of meeting police and lawyers in Mexico, interviewing trafficked child virgins in Cambodia and lobbying Congress to abolish slavery in Darfur – I'm hoping I don't sound too frivolous when I steer the subject towards Woody Allen.

A stellar cast only adds to this accomplished film’s sense of creative propriety.
Mardaani is a film that makes all the correct noises about child trafficking. And by “correct noises” I do mean the soundtrack which is among the most evocative provocative and satisfying in recent times.
Normally in Bollywood, when films are done with live sound the effect is scratchy and at times in inaudible. Mardaani cleans out the noises and yet retains a high decibel of authenticity in the complementary relationship between sight and sound. This is a film knows its job.
This, then, is the world of Pradeep Sarkar’s derelict people. Posh pimps and “cool” flesh traders…gnawing at the fabric of our society by playing with the lives of the most innocent and vulnerable. Without the least fuss, director Pradeep Sarkar...
