Once upon a time, August was a dumping ground for studio blockbusters that seemed destined to bomb or counter-programming plays to serve audiences left unfulfilled by the summer’s biggest films. That changed with Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, but ten years later, we seem to be returning to that classical trend with the release of Borderlands, a long-delayed video game adaptation that should be a smash on paper but ends up being one of the worst examples of the video game movie curse in recent memory.

Borderlands follows bounty hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett) as she is hired by a wealthy client to rescue his daughter (Ariana Greenblatt), only to discover that the girl may be more important than she seems. It’s essentially an amalgamation of every generic sci-fi trope you can think of, which is not a great place for a would-be franchise to start.

Oscar winner Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Palme d’Or-winning director Bille August’s prestige limited series “The Count of Monte Cristo,” which also stars Sam Claflin.

A sprawling adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel, the English-language series is produced by Mediawan’s banner Palomar, the leading Italian company behind “That Dirty Black Bag” and “The Name of the Rose,” in collaboration with another Mediawan label, France’s Demd Productions. The series’ five-month shoot will wrap in Malta in December, after having lensed in France and Italy.

The show underscores Mediawan’s strategy to pursue prestige scripted projects with strong international potential under its €100 million co-investment agreement signed earlier this year with private equity film Entourage Ventures.

News broke on April 10 that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn had quietly called it quits this spring after six years together. Though the pair were together for a long time, both were mostly tight-lipped about their connection and life together - except, that is, when it came to Swift's songwriting.

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered Wednesday night to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap has the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the experience in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico.

TikTok has been filled with fans romantically spinning their pets to Taylor Swift’s “August” in recent weeks. Now, Penn Badgley and Kevin Bacon have gotten in on the action, sharing their own version of the “August” TikTok trend.

In the clip, posted by Badgley, the You actor runs through a hallway where he finds Bacon and the pair dramatically twirl around (the face Bacon makes is A+ acting material). The TikTok was likely recorded at the same time Bacon appeared on Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed in an episode that debuted earlier this week.

An NFL announcer had some fun with those Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance rumours over the weekend.

Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday 9-17.

As the tight end scored his first touchdown of the season, announcer Ian Eagle said: “Kelce finds a blank space for the score,” referencing Swift’s hit song.

Billboard‘s newest chart recognizes TikTok‘s undeniable influence on the music industry. Those two companies have teamed up to launch the TikTok Billboard Top 50, which ranks the songs that are picking up the most views on the ByteDance-owned app.

The TikTok Billboard chart will incorporate multiple data points to measure the reach of top TikTok hits. Factors in the ranking include uploads, views, and U.S. user engagement. A new TikTok Billboard Top 50 will be released each Thursday
