I grew up going to federal prisons. From the ages of 4 to 14, I visited my dad twice a year at correctional institutions all over the Midwest — Leavenworth, Terre Haute, Oxford and Sandstone.
People sometimes ask me what it was like visiting prison. I usually start off by saying what it wasn’t like: There wasn’t a glass partition to speak through, or a phone, or a lot of sad faces. What there was, mostly: a big, surprisingly lively room filled with women and children. Playing cards, or with Barbies, or Parcheesi with men in shiny shoes and pressed prison uniforms, eating vending machine food, joking, laughing. Because the visiting room was an experience first and foremost of family. Families spending time together. Families connecting.
I’ve never seen that on television.
In fact, most of what I’ve seen on television regarding the lives of people in prison focuses either on the arrest,...

Mattel Films is developing a live action heist comedy “Uno” movie inspired by the card game, the company announced on Thursday.
Mattel Films will produce the project alongside Grammy-nominated rapper Lil Yachty. In addition, Quality Control’s Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas and Brian Sher will produce for Quality Films.
Marcy Kelly wrote the screenplay for the action heist comedy, set in the underground hip hop world of Atlanta. Robbie Brenner is the executive producer, and Kevin McKeon is the supervising producer. Both will lead the project for Mattel Films.
“At Mattel Films, we are looking to explore stories that bring our brands to life in unexpected ways,” said Brenner in a statement to TheWrap. “Uno is a game that transcends generations and cultures and we look forward to partnering with Lil Yachty, as well as with Coach, P and Brian Sher, to transform the classic Uno game into a comedic action adventure.

Mattel Television is set to develop a game show inspired by the card game Uno, the company announced Monday.
“The Uno Game Show” is described as a “larger-than-life televised competition” featuring four teams who will face off to become “the ultimate Uno champion.” The planned show will incorporate audience participation, over-the-top physical challenges and trivia.
Mattel Television is producing the series in partnership with Propogate, with “Let’s Make a Deal” showrunner John Quinn attached to executive produce. Adam Bonnett of Mattel and Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Greg Lipstone of Propagate also serve as executive producers.

Uno, a specialty card game akin to Crazy Eights, was first developed in 1971. Acquired by Mattel in 1992, the game is currently available in more than 80 countries and boasts dozens of themed versions. A previous game show adaptation was put into development in 2013 at The Gurin Company but did not move forward to series.

Whether you love Devin Shepherd on "Big Brother" or absolutely hate him, surely everyone will agree that the Santa Barbara native makes for good television. But here's the question we want you to ponder now: Is Devin flat-out wacky, or is he merely pretending to be crazy for the cameras? Could he actually be -- gasp! -- an evil genius? (Vote in our poll below.) Let's take a look at the pros and cons of Devin's gameplay, or lack thereof: -Break- Calling 'Big Brother' fans: Win prizes by predicting Season 16 Pro: Creating a side deal with Donny The original eight houseguests to enter the house on Day 1 called themselves the Crazy Eights and agreed to stick together till the very end. But not satisfied with eight so-so partners, Devin decided to pair up with the one person in the house no one would ever suspect him of being in an alliance with: Donny Thompson.

There’s a reason why Big Brother has held onto its signature “Expect the unexpected” catchphrase for 16 seasons.
After Wednesday’s debut introduced some of the franchise’s most superficial, polarizing contestants to date, it was hard to believe that Thursday’s second batch of contestants could be any less appealing.
But in the spirit of CBS’ reality series, there’s always a twist. And on the second night of Bb‘s two-part premiere, we learned that some of these new contenders could, in fact, be worse than the group we met just 24 hours prior.

Big Brother is back, and hopefully better than last year. After a controversial season 15 filled with racism, homophobia, and other such unpleasantness, the CBS reality show has returned with a brand new treehouse-themed house and a few major twists. In Part 1 of the two-part season 16 premiere, we met 8 of this year's 16 contestants, while the other 8 will be introduced tomorrow night in part 2. Of course, tonight's contestants have already formed an alliance, given themselves a name (Crazy Eights), then divided up into smaller alliances with names like "El Quatro," so it will be very interesting to see how it goes when the second half of the cast is added to the fold. Tonight's 8...

Big Brother introduced eight of this season’s 16 competitors in Part 1 of the Season 16 premiere, in which host Julie Chen announced two game-changing new twists.
Meet The Contestants
Paola ‘Pow Pow’ Shea is a 27-year-old DJ, who has posed for Maxim and is an avid gamer. She’s looking to use her womanly wiles to manipulate the men of the house, “even the ugly ones!”
Donny Thompson, 42, is a school groundskeeper and definitely one of the most visually recognizable housemates this season. His big beard looks straight out of Duck Dynasty, and his claim to fame is that he was the janitor at Kellie Pickler’s high school.
Cody Calafiore, 23, a sales account executive, is a former professional soccer player. For his introduction package, he parades around shirtless on the soccer field – yes, ladies and gentlemen, he is single. According to his online bio, he’s also a member of...

Big Brother, you’re such a tease.
Rather than kick off the summer staple’s 16th season with an introduction of all 16 houseguests, CBS instead chose to divide the premiere into two nights, dedicating each hour to eight contestants at a time.
But by the end of the hour, it seems that only meeting half of this summer’s characters was for the best, as the first batch may have been one of the loudest and wackiest in Bb history. (Not to be confused with the most bigoted and discriminatory group, a title that last year’s cast continues to hold.

Here's new contributor Diana Drumm to talk about a man who will surely win pride of place in Oscar's In Memoriam a week from Sunday.
Crazy eights, ice-skating tricks, the infinity symbol standing upright, 8 is a fun number... unless you’re the late legendary actor Peter O’Toole. Yes, the man who won the hearts (but not the majority) of Academy voters in his film debut as the titular Lawrence of Arabia, held his own in a televised Shakespeare discussion with Orson Welles, and bounded on and offscreen to various degrees of liquid courage would falter slightly, nay merely pause, at the mention of eight and Oscar in the same sentence.
Your instructions: Read the following paragraph aloud or in your head with all of the O’Toole-ian gravitas you can muster, in the style of the opening of his “My Life” speech from The Lion in Winter (1968), which garnered...

Whoa, what a way to start the new year! After several weeks of desolate conditions in terms of horror title releases, the floodgate just burst open.
This is the week you may want to think about using up those giftcards and cash you got from returning your holiday presents. Major releases are vying for your greenbacks alongside re-releases in Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D (in case Santa brought you a 3D TV recently), and other more independent titles. In addition to movies, there's also a Buffy motion comic and the next volume of a vampire's diary in paperback.

Back in 2001, Csx had a serious problem.
A train conductor made the dire mistake of stepping out of his moving train to throw a switch by the railway, not realizing he had improperly set the train's dynamic braking system. The train rapidly got away from the goof, sped off completely unmanned, and started up a real world drama of an out of control train and the struggle to find a way to stop it. This is referred to as the "Crazy Eights" incident, based upon the lead locomotive's number of #8888.
After seeing the new Unstoppable and understanding the details on which it is based, I feel the film's boast of 'based on true events' is actually pretty accurate. While the project was most certainly exaggerated and dramatized for our viewing pleasures,...

Killer mold! Ever since I saw that blasted Dungeons & Dragons movie and came away profoundly disappointed by the lack of the inclusion of the creeping crud, I've been jonesing to see people get killed by killer mold. Now I'll get my wish. The title of this film? Mold!
Fangoria got the first word on Mold!, the debut feature of Neil Meschino and his appropriately monikered production company, Mentally Ill Films LLC. Set in 1984 at the height of the war on drugs, the government develops a strain of mold specifically designed to wipe out Colombian coca fields. In what should come as no shock to anyone, a demonstration of this new genetically engineered mold goes horribly awry. Out of control and proving to be a killer of more than just plant life, Meschino summarizes Mold! as “conspiracy, murder, torture, mutilation, melting eyes, collapsing heads, vomit, more vomit, half-naked chicks, and gooey,...

Fango heard from director Neil Meschino of the wonderfully named Mentally Ill Films LLC, who gave us the dirt on his debut horror feature Mold! The movie is currently in the midst of its shoot on Long Island, NY locations.
Set in 1984, when the war on drugs was at its height, the story concerns a strain of mold developed by the government to wipe out Colombian coca fields. Unfortunately, during a demonstration, the mold gets out of control and proves to be deletirious to more than just vegetation. The result, Meschino tells us, is “conspiracy, murder, torture, mutilation, melting eyes, collapsing heads, vomit, more vomit, half-naked chicks and gooey, gory fun. It’s the science gone wrong of Re-animator mixed with the gory humor of Evil Dead. You’ll laugh so hard, you’ll choke on your own vomit!”

After Dark adds 'Crazy', 'Dead' to Horrorfest
NEW YORK -- After Dark Films completed its demented Horrorfest lineup by acquiring all North American rights to the supernatural thriller Crazy Eights and the psycho killer flick Lake Dead.
James K. Jones' Crazy Eights, starring Frank Whaley and Traci Lords, follows six friends who reunite after two decades at a childhood friend's funeral. They dig up a time capsule and discover the remains of a child from their past.
