Industry’s Harper Stern may have reached a new low at the start of Season 3, but in Sunday’s episode, a budding relationship with portfolio manager Petra and an incredibly bold strategic move caused the pendulum to swing in her favor.
“Harper is very lucky,” her portrayer Myha’la tells TVLine. “Anna Gearing hires her as a desk assistant at FutureDawn, which is the paycheck that will keep her in London. So of course she’s grateful for that, but she’s also wildly depressed because her mind is not being exercised. And she’s not very good at her job either.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan likes to take his time. The Turkish director is one of the greatest living practitioners of slow cinema. The filmmaking ethos — pioneered by Russian auteur Andrei Tarkovsky and taken up by the likes of Theo Angelopoulos, Albert Serra, Béla Tarr, Kelly Reichardt and Lav Diaz — eschews the rapid editing and relentless nonstop forward-driving plots of the Hollywood blockbuster (looking at you, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) for a more contemplative, metaphysical approach.
The characters in a Ceylan movie don’t do much. There’s little action or traditional suspense, and the storylines are fairly basic. In 2002’s Distant, a rural factory worker visits his cousin in Istanbul. Homicide police unearth the body of a murder victim and take a long drive back to the city for the autopsy in 2011’s Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. An old actor, his wife and his sister sit...

The film is Picturehouse Entertainment’s second acquisition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Picturehouse Entertainment has acquired UK and Ireland rights to Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Cannes Competition title About Dry Grasses from France’s Playtime.
Ceylan’s seventh Competition film follows a teacher doing a mandatory stint at a small village in Eastern Anatolia. He loses hope of escaping the grim life he seems to be stuck in, but an encounter with another teacher could help him overcome his angst.

A lengthy shoot, a lengthy post-production process and a lengthy runtime mean it’s business as usual for our favorite Turkish auteur. A mainstay on the Croisette, Nuri Bilge Ceylan has been very fortunate in the South of France landing several prizes over the years. Rarely one finds a friend on the Criterion Channel—discounting the parasitic relationship we form with filmmakers, I mean—but it’s great seeing their March lineup give light to Sophy Romvari, the <bias>exceptionally talented</bias> filmmaker and curator whose work has perhaps earned comparisons to Agnès Varda and Chantal Akerman but charts its own path of history and reflection. It’s a good way to lead into an exceptionally strong month, featuring as it does numerous films by Pier Paolo Pasolini, the great Japanese documentarian Kazuo Hara, newfound cult classic Arrebato, and a number of Criterion editions.
On the last front we have The Age of Innocence, Bull Durham, A Raisin in the Sun, The Celebration, Merrily We Go to Hell, and Design for Living. There’s always something lingering on the watchlist, but it might have to wait a second longer—March is an opened floodgate.

YouTube Global Head of Original Content Susanne Daniels has resigned after over six years, during which she built the original content division of the company. YouTube Originals is coming off Q4 2021 as its most-watched quarter ever with 1.3 billion views.
Daniels, a respected veteran TV executive, joined YouTube Originals in 2015 when the video-sharing giant had announced the launch of a premium subscription tier with high-end original scripted programming. She developed and launched such series as Cobra Kai, which set YouTube viewership records before moving to Netflix and earning Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, Step-Up (now on Starz), On Becoming A God In Central Florida (moved to Showtime) Wayne (available on Prime Video) and Impulse from Doug Liman.

This article contains light spoilers for The Many Saints of Newark.
Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta have a Goodfellas reunion, of sorts, in The Sopranos prequel, The Many Saints of Newark. No, the former Tommy DeVito isn’t in the credits, and he doesn’t bring his shine box. He is slipped in like contraband at a federal penitentiary.
Both David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos and co-writer of The Many Saints of Newark, and Alan Taylor, the film’s director, revel in film references. The esteemed filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock is renowned for making small appearances in his own films. For the film Lifeboat, which had a very limited cast and set, he makes his cameo on the page of a newspaper. Pesci shows up on classic vinyl.

Production designer Laura Fox, who transformed the Four Seasons Maui into an uneasy pineapple-bedecked paradise for HBO’s “The White Lotus,” faced some similar challenges when creating the world of Tammy Faye Bakker for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
Neither director Michael Showalter, nor producer-actress Jessica Chastain, who plays the title character, wanted to make fun of the flamboyant televangelist, yet parts of her life were undeniably over-the-top, such as her creepy doll collection. Fox says “research, research, research” was the key, although very few detailed descriptions of her surroundings existed, which allowed her to have creative license in building key sets such as the Bakker house and their studio. “It was about weaving ideas together and how to make them rich knowing they really had no exposure to taste or a decorator,” she says.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Season 5 premiere of “The Good Fight,” streaming now on Paramount Plus.
The fourth season of “The Good Fight” was cut short because of the Covid-19 pandemic, running for only seven episodes last spring instead of its planned 10. Yet, it ended perfectly, with the final moments of the season lingering on a shot of Jeffrey Epstein’s undiscovered, disembodied brain and penis encased for time immemorial. Below the floating penis was a plaque that said “Bud.”
How could the finale have been better?
But what creators Michelle and Robert King didn’t get to resolve in the abbreviated season was tying up the arc about Memo 618, the mysteriously sinister cabal of corrupt Chicago judges that seemed to be run by people in the highest echelons of power in the United States — and which Diane (Christine Baranski) and Julius (Michael Boatman) were trying to expose.

To a certain population of sitcom enjoyers, the worst thing that could possibly ever happen is set to happen on Dec. 31, 2020: NBC’s The Office will be leaving Netflix forever. Thankfully, this living nightmare will be pretty brief as The Office will come right back to the streaming world on Jan. 1, 2021.

In 2018, “Bohemian Rhapsody” blew past everyone’s expectations, becoming one of the top 10 highest grossing films of the year off the love that Queen fans have for the late Freddie Mercury. Now, “Rocketman” will try to have the same charm on Elton John fans, though it will be a tall order for it to knock “BoRhap” off the top of the music biopic charts.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

The atmosphere was palpable during Justin Bieber: Seasons’ virtual Paleyfest LA panel. Justin Bieber and his fellow panel members let raw emotions flow freely while reflecting on the docu-series filming process. Panel members, most of whom compose Justin Bieber’s inner circle of confidantes, spoke to Justin and Hailey’s bravery for letting themselves be vulnerable on camera. For the Biebers, the experience making the tell-all special was a grueling but cathartic ordeal.
Justin Bieber lives a life like no other. He grew up in the spotlight since his teenage years where his every minutiae landed front-page headlines. In spite of his fame and success, his existence is inseparable from the human condition. The 10-episode series documented Justin’s battle with Lyme disease, mental health issues and drug addiction. In Seasons he wanted to tell an intimate, authentic story of his trials and – in the process – help others deal...

Justin Bieber was supposed to be on tour this summer, but the coronavirus pandemic changed all that. Instead, the 26-year-old pop star was able to spend some quality time with his wife, Hailey Bieber. “Well, we didn’t make any babies, so that’s that,” the 23-year-old model quips during a virtual panel discussion for PaleyFest LA about their YouTube docuseries, “Seasons”.

As if 2019 had not already been bad enough, it was looking like it was going to be the first year since 1995 in which neither Hong Sang-soo nor Johnnie To released a feature film. Hong, after putting out five movies in the previous two years, was taking a well-deserved break: his The Woman Who Ran wouldn’t premiere until the Berlin Film Festival in the early months of 2020. To, on the other hand, hadn’t released anything since Three in the summer of 2016. In the meantime, there were rumors of failed attempts to get his long-gestating Election 3 off the ground, the hold-up being its probable incompatibility with Mainland Chinese censorship requirements. There was also talk of an ambitious omnibus film To was producing in collaboration with a Mount Rushmore of Hong Kong directing legends called Eight and a Half. It was finally announced as one of the films that were slated...

Celebrated Turkish auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylan, winner of the Cannes Palme d’Or in 2014 for “Winter Sleep” among many other accolades, is known to be rather reclusive. But he had no hesitation in accepting to preside over the jury of the International Migration Film Festival’s first edition, thus contributing significantly to its launch. He took questions from Variety about what moved him to participate.
You have been on several film festival juries before, also as president, including Cannes, Venice, Sarajevo and Shanghai. But this festival is different for various reasons. First off it’s a thematic event. The theme being migration, of course. How important was this aspect in your decision to head this jury?

Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay is speaking directly to the “Bachelor” franchise about “acknowledging their systemic racism” in a heartfelt essay posted to her blog Monday.
The message, which was published to her website RachelLindsayOfficial.com under the blog section “Honestly Rach,” elaborates on statements Lindsay made last week during a virtual interview for “AfterBuzz” in which she vowed to quit the “Bachelor” franchise if real efforts to solve its diversity problems are not made soon.
“Black people know historically and presently that the show is not formatted for their success,” Lindsay wrote Monday, explaining that she had applied to be on her first season of “The Bachelor” on a whim and later accepted the role of “Bachelorette” — making her the first and only person of color to hold a lead role on the long-running franchise — in order to be a “trailblazer” who might steer the future of the show in a more diverse direction.

Last Thursday, TV productions had only just begun to shut down as a result of the World Health Organization officially declaring the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. And while Hulu canceled the series' red carpet premiere scheduled for that evening, the cast of Hulu's Little Fires Everywhere, an adaptation of Celeste Ng's best-selling novel, still headed to the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills that morning for what would turn out to be the last Hollywood junket for the foreseeable future.

Much like during his Purpose era, Justin Bieber is dropping dance visuals for some of his Changes tracks. “Habitual” and “All Around Me” are the first two songs to help roll out Changes: The Movement.
The video for “All Around Me” features a male and female dancer performing an intimately choreographed routine in a room with moving walls. The video ends with the pair holding each other close in between the two walls, which have closed in on them.
“Habitual” features a different pair of dancers, one male and one female.

Pop star Justin Bieber surprised a superfan, Lynsey Mickolas, 10 years after serenading her with the song "One less lonely girl" on stage.
It was back in 2010 that the two met during a concert.

The singer surprised Mickolas once more during a special moment in the finale on his YouTube docuseries "Seasons", reports dailymail.co.uk.
While Mickolas recalled her unforgettable Bieber moment, the singer prepped for another special performance.
Mickolas, now a forensic chemist living in Virginia, spoke about her August 31, 2010 night at Madison Square Garden.
Years after, it seemed unreal for the fan who told cameras: "To be honest, I don't remember everything from that night because everything just happened so quickly and it was so overwhelming."

Justin Bieber’s comeback single, "Yummy," may have failed to debut at No. 1 despite some rather questionable promotional tactics, but an accompanying YouTube docuseries titled Seasons is breaking viewership records.
The first episode of the series is the most-viewed YouTube Original to date -- in terms of views within the first week of a series premiere, Variety reports. That places Seasons firmly ahead of Liza Koshy’s Liza On Demand, which scored 25.4 million views in one week for the debut episode of its second season. In third place is Cobra Kai, whose second season premiere nabbed 21 million views.
YouTube paid more than $20 million for the 10-part Bieber series, Variety reports, making it the company’s most expensive content acquisition to date. It’s something of an inevitable partnership, given that Bieber rose to renown on YouTube -- under the channel name Kidrauhl -- after his singing videos caught the eye of manager Scooter Braun.

Justin Bieber is revealing intimate details about his marriage to Hailey Bieber in his new docuseries, Seasons, including how their first interaction wasn't exactly love at first sight. While we've seen sparks fly between the on-again, off-again partners since 2015 during New Year's Eve parties and even on a low-key beach trip, it's hard to believe they were ever not a sexy duo with off-the-charts chemistry. Back in 2009, when Justin was just a pop star on the rise with a killer haircut and Hailey was a preteen with a modeling career ahead of her, the two were introduced by her dad, actor Stephen Baldwin, backstage at an early-morning show appearance, and it was all caught on camera.
In the video, Justin is thrilled to meet Stephen, who gave him a skateboarding DVD, but the most cringeworthy moment of all comes when a high-energy Justin meets Hailey with a handshake. We all had that awkward tween stage,...

Today, YouTube premiered the first episode of Justin Bieber’s 10-part documentary Seasons, which mostly charts the creation of his forthcoming fifth album. For Bieber and his team, returning to YouTube is the perfect metaphor for his career: the video platform was how manager and confidant Scooter Braun accidentally discovered a 13-year-old Bieber on YouTube in 2007.
Now, at 25, Bieber has survived some of the lowest and highest points a pop star can endure: struggles with addiction, messy public break-ups, and career uncertainty have coexisted alongside hit singles, sold-out tours and becoming a household name.

- I'm in transit in Dortmund and haven't reached my final destination Hamburg yet. I have posters and tons of pictures to share, so bare with me. I watched my last film on Friday at 8:30 which is called INDIGÈNES about the contribution of indigenous citizens from Africa in WWII to help free France from the Nazi occupation.I left Cannes gladly and was too drained and exhausted from the town and films but I will be back next year, Inshallah - but there's no doubt that it's the best festival in the world with the whole world in one small town. The locals are nice and friendly. The food is great. The town has the best theatres in the world with the Grand Lumiere at the top with 2400 seats. Another great thing about Cannes is you can catch up some of the films from Sundance, Rotterdam and Berlin among others.
