Prime Video is adding to the cast of its Legally Blonde prequel Elle.
Tom Everett Scott has joined the series, which will follow Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) through her high school years. Scott (Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty) will play Wyatt, Elle’s father, opposite June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mom, Eva.
The Amazon-owned streamer ordered Elle to series in May 2024, with creator Laura Kittrell (Insecure, High School) set as co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Batwoman). Reese Witherspoon, who starred as Elle in the two Legally Blonde movies, and Lauren Neustadter are executive producing via Hello Sunshine company, along with the films’ producer, Marc Platt. Amazon MGM Studios is the studio.

The best Mandy Moore movies and TV shows perfectly demonstrate how the singer-songwriter made the transition from parts in lighthearted teen rom-coms to leading grounded and emotional dramas. Born in New Hampshire in 1984, Mandy Moore first rose to fame as a pop singer with singles like 1999’s “Candy” from her debut album So Real. However, within a few years, she’d make the transition to acting, starting with a minor voice role in 2001’s Dr. Dolittle 2.
While appearing in a film alongside Eddie Murphy so early in her career was an achievement, it was her role as Lana in The Princess Diaries the same year that proved the pop star was also an incredibly talented actor. Before long, Mandy Moore was leading cases in films like 2002’s A Walk to Remember and 2003’s How to Deal. As the decades progressed, she began to take on more mature roles that further highlighted her range,...

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.
But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

Gabriel Macht and Jacinda Barrett may have played love interests on "Suits," but their nearly two-decade-long romance is an even more beautiful story. Did you know they met on a blind date? The actors have been married since 2004 and share two children, a son named Luca and a daughter named Satine. While the two remain primarily tight-lipped about their personal lives, Barrett and Macht's Instagram posts show just how much fun they have with their children.
In April 2016, Macht spoke to Woman's Day about how his family is the most important thing in his life. "I'm a family man," the "Because I Said So" actor told the outlet at the time. "My relationships with my wife and my kids are my priorities. And I have the utmost confidence in my love for my family and I prioritize that."
Macht also shared how he differs from his "Suits" character, Harvey Specter.

Romantic comedy fans love movies that can blend a heartwarming story about life with enough humor to keep the tone light. Though some viewers are content with some cliché themes and concepts in these rom-coms, critics are often harsh on movies that don't exceed expectations.
Rom-coms such as The Proposal and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days are some of the most iconic films in the genre, though they've received harsh criticism. While critics are looking for movies that offer a fresh and exciting addition to the rom-com genre, not all films need to be profound. The rom-coms that critics hated and audiences loved are the ones that perfectly fit into the genre, offering some common tropes within a cute and humorous storyline.

After hitting theaters on May 12, Diane Keaton’s new comedy movie Book Club: The Next Chapter is receiving mixed reviews, thus keeping alive her 20-year streak of critical misfires. Book Club: The Next Chapter's cast is led by screen legends Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen as they travel to Italy and apply the revelations of The Alchemist to their changing lives and romances. Critics are split on the follow-up to the 2018 box office hit Book Club, as the comedy movie holds a disappointing 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Book Club 2’s disappointing critical response isn’t much different form the original movie, which still holds a mixed 54% Rotten Tomatoes score at the time of writing. In the time since and before the Book Club movies, Diane Keaton’s films have had similar critical responses, which marks a major departure from her Oscar-winning hits of the 1970s like Annie Hall,...

You ever notice how HBO’s releases tend to do the heavy lifting in HBO Max’s content library? That makes plenty of sense given that HBO has a track record of producing hits well before the streaming era even began. Well, a similar concept is now playing out over on Hulu. Like many monthly releases before it, Hulu’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by a whole bunch of FX TV shows.
The initiative once known as “FX on Hulu” is no more but that’s not stopping the cable network-turned quality TV brand from churning out some intriguing titles for the streaming world this month. That is followed up by the docuseries Children of the Underground on Aug. 13, Little Demon on Aug. 26, and The Patient of Aug. 30. The most interesting of the bunch,...

And just like that – here comes spring. Amazon Prime‘s list of new releases for April 2021 isn’t as cheery as one would expect from the sunny season. But perhaps that’s by design – you should be outside anyway!
Amazon’s most prominent original series for April 2021 is undoubtedly Them from multi-hyphenate Lena Waithe. This horror anthology’s first season, subtitled “Covenant”, will center on a Black family in the 1950s who move from North Carolina to a white neighborhood in Los Angeles. It premieres on April 9. Given its name and premise, Them is drawing some (largely joke-y) comparisons to Jordan Peele’s Us on social media. But hey, the world could always use some more Us.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

A heated altercation preceded the brutal shotgun slayings of José and Kitty Menendez by their sons, Erik and Lyle, Erik claims.
Speaking out in a new documentary special on A&E, The Menendez Murders: Erik Tells All, premiering Thursday night and exclusively previewed above, Erik details a version of the much-disputed explanation that the brothers have made for themselves for decades: that their parents’ murders were essentially in self-defense, after years of abuse.
“I am 100 percent sure that they fabricated their defense,” Pamela Bozanich, a prosecutor on their case, said in 2015. “I’m not 90 percent sure; I’m 100 percent sure.

When you think Mandy Moore, early 2000s probably comes to mind. She was everywhere. Mandy popped up in The Princess Diaries, tore our hearts out in A Walk to Remember, made us laugh in Saved! and even got a little raunchy in her arc on the HBO hit series Entourage. Needless to say she a successful actress and singer. Mandy released hit songs such as "Candy," "I Wanna Be With You" and "Stupid Cupid," officially making her a double threat in Hollywood. But as quickly as Mandy rose to new Millennium fame she just as quickly faded into the abyss, unable to maintain such a streak of hits. She appeared in License to Wed and Because I Said So, both rom-coms that didn't really perform up to box...

Glossy Hollywood automatons sleepwalk through family dynamics full of forced quirkiness, excruciating cuteness, and phony emotion. Absolutely cringeworthy. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

If you like spending the yuletide season with horrible people, have I got a movie for you. Christmas with the Coopers (called Love the Coopers in North America) is so awful, so cringeworthy, so full of forced quirkiness, excruciating cuteness, and phony emotion that it made me question my love for other movies about families gathering for a big festive meal, such as Home for the Holidays and The Family Stone. Coopers is so noxious that I suddenly wondered whether I had been wearing blinders when I fell in love with those movies, blinders that have now somehow dropped away. (I don’t think so. Not to push you into the Christmas spirit already, but this trailer for Love the Coopers is worth a watch.
Lionsgate's family comedy brings John Goodman, Amanda Seyfried, Ed Helms, Olivia Wilde and Diane Keaton together to celebrate the perfect Christmas.
But let's just say – everything doesn't go as planned.
This wacky festive comedy comes from director Jessie Nelson, who previously worked with Diane Keaton on 2007's rom-com Because I Said So.
Nelson filmed Love the Coopers on location in Pittsburgh – which means this is going to be one snowy holiday.
Love the Coopers slides down the chimney into cinemas on November 13 in the Us and December 4 in the UK.

Mandy Moore has always been a cutie! The "Because I Said So" actress took to Instagram on Thursday to share one awesome throwback photo from when she was in the second grade. "Trying to rock some blunt bangs in 2nd grade. #Tbt #missingmyfrontteeth," she captioned the adorable snap. In the cute candid, the "Walk To Remember" star poses with one giant smile on her face and her long blonde hair styled straight and parted down the middle. The now-30 year old is also rocking some thick bangs and missing a few of her chompers. Looks like even the gorgeous actress went through a few awkward years, too! Moore currently stars in the TV series "High School USA!," and she celebrated her five year wedding anniversary to hubby Ryan Adams last year with a one crazy party. Mandy's Bff Minka Kelly was also on-hand for the celebrations and posed for...

A Spoonful of Violence: Hopkins’ Unbalanced Sophomore Effort
Actress turned screenwriter turned director Karen Leigh Hopkins unleashes her sophomore feature Miss Meadows after its premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where it was met with a middling response. After her first stint as director with 1998’s indie film The Rose Sisters and a 2001 Penelope Ann Miller television film, A Woman’s a Helluva Thing, her latest succeeds as her highest profile effort as director, though it’s nowhere near the level of success that some of her screenwriting efforts have attained, like 1998’s Stepmom or the majorly lambasted Because I Said So (2007). Tonally awkward and a bit too underwhelming to fully succeed as the black comedy cum violent thriller character study it is trying to be, Hopkins does manage to use the casting of Katie Holmes to her advantage (something not many directors have been able to do...

Before she was Mrs. Tom Cruise, when Dawson’s Creek was her place of residence, Katie Holmes was still a total sweetheart. Her “aw-shucks” demeanor and girl-next-door good looks were a charming point of contrast to so many synthetically-enhanced Hollywood beauties, and she’s managed to deliver a couple of arresting performances in films like Doug Liman’s “Go,” “Pieces of April” and the magnificent “Wonder Boys.” So when one thinks of Holmes, one does not think of a homicidal homebody bent on revenge while wearing Sunday school clothes. Yet that’s exactly what the trailer for “Miss Meadows,” the offbeat new film from Karen Leigh Hopkins (“Because I Said So”) delivers. So… if you really wanted to see Katie Holmes slipping into “Dirty Harry” mode… you’re in luck. The trailer opts for a wobbly, morally neutral tone: we open on a distractingly cartoonish pastiche of suburban Americana, with...

"Kind of a Pulp Fiction, Mary Poppins." That line in the new trailer for the quirky thriller Miss Meadows sums it up rather perfectly, but somehow we don't think the film will measure up to either of those revered films. Katie Holmes plays a wholesome, charming school teacher who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty when the opportunity calls for it. Delivering justice with a tiny little pistol she keeps for her purse, she's ready to keep the bad guys away from her children and the nice town in which she lives. But can she keep her secret from the local law enforcement, including the sheriff played by James Badge Dale? Watch! Here's the new trailer for Karen Leigh Hopkins' Miss Meadows from YouTube: Watch the first trailer for Miss Meadows, starring Katie Holmes, right here. Mandy Moore has landed a major recurring guest role on Fox’s new hour-long drama Red Band Society.
Mandy Moore Joins Red Band Society
Moore, known for both her singing and acting skills, will play Ocean Park Hospital’s chief of staff Erin Grace. Erin, incidentally, also happens to be the ex fiancé of Dr. McAndrews (Dave Annable).
"We're branching out to tell a soap on top of the patients with the hospital staff and we're adding new people," executive producer Rina Mimoun told The Hollywood Reporter. "We focus on patients, but we're building out the adult storylines so we're following their stories as well."
Red Band Society currently stars Annable and Octavia Spencer as a sharp-tongued nurse with a soft heart. Both of the workers at Ocean Park Hospital treat a group of sick teenagers that call the hospital their home. The show focuses on the unlikley friendships between the ailing patients,...

Last week, I vented my pique at Marvel’s tone-deaf marketing of the new Spider-Woman comic. Then, on Monday, my esteemed colleague, Mindy Newell, offered a different perspective. Who’s right? Normally, I would say I’m right because I’m the mommy. However, in this case, Mindy has also given birth, and even trumped my creds by being a grandmother. So I’m not playing that card. This also means I can’t just say “Because I said so.” Denied my two favorite debating tactics, I’m going to have to approach this from a different angle. Despite what one might think about feminism and other kinds of so-called “identity politics,” there isn’t a single governing board that determines what is “politically correct.” There are married feminists who take their husbands’ last name, stay home with the kids, and volunteer at the PTA. There are radical lesbian separatists...

Katie Holmes became best know for being Tom Cruise’s wife for a while, overshadowing her performances in movies like Batman Begins, Thank You for Smoking and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.
However, the actress looks set to change all of that as she takes on a very different role in Miss Meadows. The movie will see Holmes play a sweet and inspirational school teacher…who just so happens to spend her evenings as a ruthless vigilante wiping out her small town’s scum, particularly those who harm children.
It’s a strange looking film in some ways, but one which has the potential to be something truly special. Based on some of her past roles, Holmes seems like an unexpected choice, but that too should help to separate Miss Meadows from any other similar normal person by day, vigilante by night type of releases.

To me, for better and for worse, this feels like the kind of quirky dark comedy we were getting on the regular back between 1999 and 2004. Now, not so much. Which is to say that this trailer for Miss Meadows is simultaneously refreshing and stale. For what it's worth I'm definitely interested in seeing this, I'll take a formula I haven't seen in a while over a formula I'm exposed to every day. And I happen to think Katie Holmes is a strong performer who took herself off the scene right before she started getting really interesting roles. The film is written directed by Karen Leigh Hopkins, who directed the apparently abysmal Because I Said So, but I will hold out a sliver of hope regardless. In Miss Meadows Holmes plays a sweet and proper elementary school teacher whose perfect manners and pretty floral dresses hide a dark secret: when she's...

We've seen Katie Holmes smirk her way through many performances like Batman Begins, Thank You for Smoking, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and Jack & Jill. But now she's entering a whole new realm with Miss Meadows. The film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, and now the first trailer has arrived showing Holmes as a sweet, inspirational grade school teacher by day, who totes a cute little gun as a ruthless vigilante outside of the school yard. She goes from trimming roses to cutting down the scum of her small town. This looks so weird, especially with someone like Holmes in the lead, but you can see for yourself. Here's the first trailer for Karen Leigh Hopkins' Miss Meadows, originally from E! Online: Miss Meadows is written and directed by Karen Leigh Hopkins (writer of Because I Said So). Karen Leigh Hopkins—whose writing credits include “Stepmom” and “Because I Said So”—says there’s one key thing to remember when making a film, television show, writing a script, or with any artistic venture, really: “Have it matter.” “It’s so hard, anyway, to get anything done or to do it right,” she says. “Give yourself the opportunity to succeed by having it be something that’s got meaning.” Hopkins offers this advice out of experience. Her latest film, “Miss Meadows,” which she wrote and directed, took her 14 years to make. And had it not mattered, she might not have worked that long or that hard. “Miss Meadows,” starring Katie Holmes, premiered on April 21 at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. It tells the story of the titular character, who, with excellent manners, rids the community of the people law enforcement cannot—think of her as a “‘Pulp Fiction’ Mary Poppins.

Saying, “It had to be done” is a lot like any other empty phrase that’s intended to put a band-aid a wound caused by a character feeling pangs of guilt or concern over what he or she has just done. It’s certainly the tune of Low Winter Sun, a show that’s incredibly eager to present its characters as a group of hard-nosed individuals constantly getting their hands dirty and making the kinds of tough life choices that one does when he or she is involved in the sort of pursuits that bring with them certain life and death stakes.

Someday, Someday, Maybe – available April 30th – is Lauren Graham‘s debut novel. The star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood offers up a coming-of-age story about Franny Banks, a twenty-something in New York who only has six months left on her self-imposed, three-year deadline to make it as an actress.
Sticking to the old adage that you should write what you know (at least, one is hard-pressed to imagine there isn’t a good deal of reflection going on here), Someday, Someday, Maybe takes us through Franny’s “pressure days” on the road to, she hopes, success. At times a kind of “everyactress,” Franny is waiting tables while looking for a big break, battling self-doubt, managing a long-distance relationship, and generally unsure what she’s supposed to be doing with herself.

She has the most challenging role As an elderly woman whose health dramatically declines after a sudden stroke in "Amour," Emmanuelle Riva was charged with true high-difficulty acting rarely seen on the screen. She was required to display her music teacher character in a vibrant and talkative state, and then transform herself into a near vegetative condition. The physical challenges associated with a task like this can't be downplayed. The actress had to virtually relinquish all of control of her body, and eliminate any "monitoring" which might suggest self-awareness to the audience. Was there ever a moment when you doubted what you were seeing? Many people found the film somewhat difficult to watch, but that's largely due to how convincing the acting was. On the Jan. 21 episode of ‘The Carrie Diaries,’ Carrie does whatever it takes to make sure her relationship with Sebastian is all good — even if she has to betray her little sister in the process.
On the second episode of The Carrie Diaries, “Lie With Me,” Carrie’s (AnnaSophia Robb) honesty is tested. Plus, her newfound friend Larissa (Freema Agyeman) gives her some titillating advice — “Sometimes you have to fake it to make it. After a while, what’s fake becomes truth.”
While Carrie is grounded, Sebastian (Austin Butler) finds himself on a “date” with the resident bad girl, and Carrie’s arch nemesis Donna Ladonna (Chloe Bridges) at a country club. In reality, their families were dining together, but when Sebastian and Donna take a break and head outside together, Mouse (Ellen Wong), who happens to be at the same restaurant, misinterprets the situation and calls Carrie to tell her the bad news.

“Because I said so.” Have four words ever been so chillingly, yet rousingly, delivered? Walter White’s Season Five conversation ender put the definitive mark on his transformation from mild-mannered science teacher to ruthless drug kingpin. The brilliance of Breaking Bad is that this transformation can be viewed either as a triumph of Nietzschean ‘Superman’ ethics or as the moral turpitude of hubris run amuck. Sure Walter White is a badass – but he’s also a very bad, bad man. Breaking Bad is one of the only shows in recent memory that can ‘have its cake and eat it too’ – at once both celebrating and decrying Walter’s actions. How does it get away with this?
