When reviewing a horror movie for Nerdly, I didn’t think I would ever begin my review with a sentence like ‘from the director of She’s the Man, The Game Plan, Race To Witch Mountain and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, comes a new horror movie’, but here we are.

Andy Fickman is the said director and Don’t Turn Out the Lights shows a group of friends travelling in a motorhome to a music festival when they come across something supernatural after their mode of transport breaks down. It’s no doubt a story that horror movie fans will have heard before but it does at least bring a few surprises.

First, I will get my biggest annoyance with the movie out of the way.

Netflix is once again teaming up with director Janeen Damian and actress Miranda Cosgrove for a second romantic comedy film, The Wrong Paris. Filming took place in the second half of 2024, and the film will be released on Netflix sometime in 2025. Here’s everything we know about The Wrong Paris on Netflix.

This marks Janeen Damian’s third major movie for Netflix, having previously directed Lindsay Lohan’s significant return to acting via Netflix with Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish. Elsewhere, Damian is known for working with her husband, Michael, on a slew of Christmas projects. Michael will serve as a producer on The Wrong Paris. The project comes from Motion Picture Corporation of America (Mpca), Riviera Films, and K7 Entertainment.

Exclusive: Walt Disney Television Alternative, the Mouse House’s unscripted production unit, has struck a development deal with Obb Media, the company run by Justin Bieber: Seasons director and exec producer Michael D. Ratner.

It comes as the Disney division, which is led by Rob Mills, EVP, Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television, has been ramping up business over the last twelve months and recently hired a trio of VPs.

The multi-year development deal, which is non-exclusive, will focus on creating documentaries, docu-series, original specials and unscripted formats across Disney platforms.

Ratner and Obb Media will look to develop series that cater to Gen Z and Millennial audiences.

As part of this deal, Ratner will also serve as a producer across a selection of primetime specials.

People aren’t making romantic dramedies that much anymore, but at the same time, there’s a real need for content because of the streaming outlets,” says Fickman, whose energy level remains high even after shooting an all-nighter. Kelley and his partners announced not just a film iteration of “May We All” — whose planned staging has been put off due to the pandemic — but the director who’s been tapped for a movie version: Andy Fickman, whose credits include directing and exec-producing CBS’ TV series “Kevin Can Wait” as well as a number of feature films and stage productions.

The stage version, announced in Variety in 2019, was set for a developmental production at Memphis’ Playhouse in the Square in fall 2020, to have been followed by an official Nashville premiere in 2021.
