- TriviaGarrett Wang always disliked that Harry was never promoted beyond Ensign, despite several requests. He has stated that his character was not given the opportunity to grow as others were. This episode finally gave Harry a taste of command, if only briefly.
- GoofsAs the ship approaches the planet, Harry Kim orders the cloak disengaged. Seven of Nine states that three ships are detected in orbit. Four ships are seen on the view screen.
- Quotes
[Ensign Kim is in command of the Nightingale]
Seven of Nine: I've discovered a serious flaw in one of the ship's systems.
Harry Kim: Which one?
Seven of Nine: The Captain.
[Kim looks at her consternated]
Seven of Nine: The captain's main function is to issue orders, correct?
Harry Kim: Right.
Seven of Nine: And the crew's function is to support the captain and carry out those orders.
Harry Kim: What's your point?
Seven of Nine: Every time you give an order, you carry it out yourself. And when someone else makes a suggestion, you dismiss it.
Harry Kim: These people are inexperienced. They need my help.
Seven of Nine: When you first came aboard Voyager, did Captain Janeway help you?
Harry Kim: Sure, she looked after all the junior officers.
Seven of Nine: By doing your work for you.
Harry Kim: No. She gave me a lot to do, actually.
Seven of Nine: Because she felt you were more capable than she was.
Harry Kim: Of course not. She wanted me to learn, to gain confidence.
Seven of Nine: Interesting.
Watching Harry Kim act like a kid playing captain was just...cringeworthy on so many levels. I couldn't decided whether to laugh or grimace. I'm sure I ended up doing both.
Once again, Wang's delivery of his lines shows why he's just not a great actor. And when you're across excellent actors like Mulgrew, Russ, and Ryan, you can't help but stand out even more.
Watching Seven chew Harry a new one because he's acting more like a petulant teenager than a Starfleet officer, was a golden moment in this episode.
You know you're watching a so-so episode when you're more interested in Torres and a teenaged Icheb than you are in Harry Kim, which isn't a good thing. This is an episode one can easily skip over in the future. I know I will.
