The story is partly based on R.D. Wingfield's book that the entire series is named after, A touch of Frost (published in 1987). Some details have been changed, such as the name of the casino - here it's the Sherwood Club, and in the novel it's the Purple Parrot nightclub - as well as the identity of the killer.

Goofs
Much is made of Roger Massie's car losing its rear license plate following the hit-and-run, with Frost deducing it was deliberately left behind. However, before the old man is run down, the car crashes into other parked vehicles and loses its front bumper, including the front license plate. Nothing is ever said about this nor does anyone attempt to investigate that part of the incident. As such, the issue of the rear license plate being left behind would be moot, as they would have the front license plate anyway.

Strong, stand alone, clever cop gags.

Shaking off 'sad wife death legend' this is more fun. My fave feature is the humorless assistant but it has 3 interesting women and a nice bemused attitude. Good Frost lines.
