In light of the unspeakable tragedy that occurred this week in Las Vegas, Marvel and Netflix have decided to drop their planned big reveal about The Punisher from this weekend’s New York Comic-Con schedule. It was expected that the long-awaited release date of the upcoming series would be unveiled at the event, and according to a new report, it seems that we might know just why this decision was made.
Newsday’s Verne Gay is alleging that “they’ve heard” that the reveal of the release date has been cancelled because Marvel have changed their plans about when to drop the TV show on the streaming service. The original launch date of mid-October will apparently now be pushed back until “late fall,” due to the Las Vegas tragedy.

Netflix and Marvel have canceled plans for a couple of events that were planned for their upcoming series The Punisher because of the Las Vegas shooting. They recently announced that they have pulled out of New York Comic Con and Marvel and Netflix released a joint statement on the decision, saying:
"We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”
Variety is also reporting that they have also canceled an event in Paris that was scheduled for Saturday. It was called "Nuit Noire (Black Night)" and the event was going to take place at the Cirque d’Hiver, which is a historical monument that is home...

**Spoilers ahead** You already know the story, but here's the short version: at the beginning of 2014, Quentin Tarantino announced he was shelving "The Hateful Eight," after the script leaked before he had even gotten the movie in front of cameras. Like his latest feature, The Comedy, there will be no film like Rick Alverson‘s Entertainment this year. With Gregg Turkington‘s portraying his alter ego Neil Hamburger, it’s an uncomfortable, often hilarious character study, and today brings another look. Along with an extensive clip, it’s been revealed the soundtrack — which will get 1,000 vinyl pressings — will not only feature music, but comedy segments as well.
We said in our review, “Every second of the 102-minute running time is felt. We’re trapped with this character on his never-ending journey, one that makes for an unpleasant watch. Yet the pace, imagery, and Turkington’s compelling performance add up to an unnerving comedy. Entertainment is the kind of film one never has to see again, but will be better off for having seen it.”
Check out the clip and soundtrack details below along with a conversation between Alverson and Stinking Heaven director Nathan Silver.

The platform aims to link animation talent and studios with festivals, sales agents and the advertising industry through work portfolios, artist and studio showcases, festival listings and a database of professionals in the animation industry.
“While the animation industry both in the arthouse and commercial sectors has seen a tremendous boom in the recent years, there has been a lack of coherent promotion platforms and databases that could cater to that potential,” said Mikk Granström, manager of Black Night’s sub-festivals.

The Hateful Eight may not be dead yet! Director Quentin Tarantino has announced that he is working on a third draft of the screenplay, and he may actually direct it next winter.
As it has been widely reported, Quentin Tarantino ditched his plans to make the Western his next movie after the first draft of the screenplay leaked online earlier this year. This past weekend, he held a one time only live reading of the screenplay, with Samuel L. Quentin Tarantino was in the middle of working on The Hateful Eight script when it leaked, and decided to scrap the project even though he wanted it to be his next film. Tarantino explained that he was frustrated with the leak to the point where he decided to put The Hateful Eight aside and work on something else. But it looks like he can't let the project go since this past weekend he hosted a live-reading of the script with Samuel L. White Winter Black Night is the title of one of the novels I’m writing. Simon & Schuster will publish the book in 2014.
Published by Simon & Schuster… how damn cool is that? Simon & Schuster is one of the most respected and largest publishers in the world. To get a book published by Simon & Schuster is a big deal for a writer, any writer.
I’m a writer.
Well, now I’m a writer.
Growing up there was nothing and I mean nothing I loved more than reading. I read everything and when I say everything I mean everything. It started with comics and once I realized how wonderful reading was it started me on an odyssey that still exists today. At present I’m listening to two audio books in two different cars. I’m reading two hard cover books and have no idea how many books I’m reading on my iPad.

Our round-up of John Barry’s non-Bond movie scores continues with a look at some romantic compositions from the disco decade…
As we embark on the fourth part of our appreciation of John Barry’s career beyond Bond, we move into a decade renowned for its glitter balls, bell-bottoms and jiggle television. However, this phase of Barry’s career is representative of a burgeoning interest in more emotionally charged, fractured and complex ideas, viewed through the filter of a maturing, mellowing artist.
Even the most vibrant, exotic scores could not disguise the introspection and sensitivity of the man himself. He continued to chase universal themes – and he was still capable of conjuring up worlds of intrigue and drama – but the projects he gravitated towards more in the wake of Midnight Cowboy were those that allowed him to explore more intimate musical textures.

This is nothing short of stunning and reminds me of Nuit Noire. The film is written and directed by Colin Downey and stars Patrick O'Donnell and Natalia Kostrzewa. Here's a rundown:
Paul is a troubled young man living in a rural cottage with his pregnant girlfriend, Clare. While dealing with the sudden arrival of his sinister mother-in-law and coming to terms with his impending fatherhood, Paul constantly struggles to escape the traumas of his childhood.
Further, the production website describes the film as a "dark fairytale weaving together magic, mystery and suspense which follows Paul on a dangerous journey to a strange nocturnal world peopled by exotic beauties, criminals, and grotesques."
Seriously folks, check this out!

• Drew Barrymore was ready to dance when she arrived at Bardot Hollywood with a pal close to midnight. The actress, who was there for the popular Mr. Black night, was casually dressed, sporting a black hat and sipping a Red Bull as she danced the night away. "She was in a great mood and enjoying herself, just doing her thing uninterrupted by anyone," says an onlooker.

Trailer for Olivier Smolders Nuit Noire: Oscar, a conservator at the Natural Sciences Museum, passes the days exercising his passion for studying insects; if only there still were days. As long as people can remember, the sun only releases a few pathetic rays for fifteen seconds before noon. The rest of the time, the world is plunged into a night without end, a permanent eclipse. Coming home after work, Oscar finds an African woman in his bed. Suffering from a mysterious and incurable disease, she seems to have come to his place to die. Trapped between desire and repulsion, Oscar gradually abandons his life to terrifying phantoms.
The long awaited feature length debut film of talented short filmmaker Olivier Smolders (see also Spiritual Exercises DVD), Nuit Noire (Black Night) is mysterious, ghostly, technically impeccable, and continuously bathed in a magical, surreal light.

Using vibrant colors against a backdrop of black and white, Ayman Mokhtar's film experiments with "the rhythmic potential in film as a time-dependent medium [which] needs to be explored and unleashed." Beautifully shot and based around a Doctor's inability to touch human skin, Anaphylaxis reminds me of Olivier Smolders' Nuit Noire.
A successful doctor, content with life, develops a strange illness – anaphylaxis, a severe allergy to human skin. He tries to defy his illness, but his life is tuned upside down by his inability to touch people. He can’t function professionally, socially or intimately with his fiancée, whom he eventually loses.
Then he discovers that dead bodies don’t trigger his illness. He withdraws from life around him to work as a pathologist, dealing only with dead bodies. Life is calm until he encounters a woman’s dead body covered from neck to toe with writing. Intrigued, he starts to read.

These remind of the Lynchian and incredibly stunning Nuit Noire, but unfortunately, their only publicity stills. We can hope this entire UK indie which is directed by Ian Fielding and currently in post is shot the same way but I highly doubt it.
