"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and its sequels have been a stepping stone for many actors, propelling them to success in their careers. The sequels may not have replicated the same success as the first film, but they have added depth to the characters and acted as milestones for the cast. The primary cast members of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" have been actively involved in various movies, TV shows, and upcoming projects throughout the years.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a turning point for many actors involved in the movie, and since its release, they have come a long way in their careers. Although My Big Fat Greek Wedding did not initially have a lot of buzz surrounding its release, the rom-com movie became a sleeper hit after premiering in 2002. Twenty after its release, the film is considered a rom-com classic and, as a result, has spawned two sequels.

Nia Vardalos is gearing up to release “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” in theaters, but helming and starring in a beloved rom-com trilogy was probably not something her first Hollywood agent thought was possible for her. In an interview with MovieMaker magazine (conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike), Vardalos revealed her first agent told her she was too ugly to be a leading lady in Hollywood. This was before she became an industry breakout with the success of 2002’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
“Sometimes I’m depicted as this very strong person who was rejected by Hollywood and therefore created my own story,” Vardalos said. “The reality is that it hurt to be told that my ethnicity and my looks were the problem. I never had my looks categorized as being detrimental to my career. So, anyway, f- her, because look how it turned out.”

“Sequel September” enters its second weekend with more studios hoping that nostalgia will rule out for moviegoers. This week welcomes “The Nun II” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” to theaters, and we’re predicting they could have very different results. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The return of Denzel Washington for “The Equalizer 3” did so well over Labor Day weekend that studios should be thrilled with their decision to just release sequel after sequel this month, the next one up being “The Nun II.” It’s a sequel to the spin-off from “The Conjuring” that opened on this weekend in 2018 to $53.8 million, the biggest opening for the franchise that’s been dubbed “The Conjuring-verse.”

Kristin Cavallari admitted to dumping guys over text during an episode titled I Hate Valentine’s Day on her podcast Back to the Beach.

If I’ve only hung out with you a couple times and I’m like this is going nowhere,” she said clarifying when she employs her distanced breakup tactics. “I actually recently did that,” Cavallari admitted before adding, “it’s pretty f—ked up.”

It’ll be a fall family reunion for the “My Big Fat Greek Weeding” clan, with Focus Features dating the third film in the franchise for a worldwide theatrical release on Sept. 8, 2023.
Nia Vardalos wrote and directed the new film, starring alongside returning cast members John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, Elena Kampouris, Maria Vacratsis, Andrea Martin, Elias Kacavas, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone and Lainie Kazan. Elias Kacavas and Melina Kotselou join the family this time around.
Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Gary Goetzman — who’ve produced all three movies — also return, with Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer and Steven Shareshian serving as executive producers.
“The sweet friendship which bloomed from the producers’ first taking a chance on me then grew into a beautiful relationship as they entrusted me to direct this installment of our franchise,” Vardalos stated. “We filmed our family reunion entirely in Greece which was thrilling for us all. Plus,...

"In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes," it's claimed Andy Warhol once said. Some stars shine much brighter than others, though, and in the case of Hollywood we often see actors hit big early before disappearing without trace.
Brandon Routh, who delivered a sensitive and assured turn as the Man of Steel in 2006's Superman Returns, is one such example. Routh never quite got the breaks he deserved after landing that life-changing role, so it's nice to see him back in the superhero game with an upcoming role as Atom in Arrow.
Digital Spy takes a look back at a handful of stars who couldn't escape their one big role.
Brandon Routh
Plucked from relative obscurity to lead Bryan Singer's lavish Superman sequel, Routh impressively channelled Christopher Reeve on his big screen debut but found leading man roles difficult to come by in the aftermath.

It's been over a decade since we've visited Dancing Zorba's and witnessed the magical healing powers of Windex, but all that's about to change. Nia Vardalos, the writer and star of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," has penned a sequel that's getting big-screen treatment, with help from producers Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks. Thankfully, her co-star John Corbett is also returning; the "Northern Exposure" (and, Ok, "Sex and the City") star played her hunky but most definitely not Greek husband in the original film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there will be yet another giant Greek wedding at the heart of this sequel, as well as a big family secret. Vardalos told THR, "Of course a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true." Hey, who could blame her?

Actress Nia Vardalos said she can't even get a latte without someone hitting her up with an idea for a sequel to her 2002 surprise hit movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
"Over the years, I've heard from everybody about what the sequel should be. People next to me at Starbucks would say, 'hey, let me tell you my idea' and I'd be like 'hey, I'm just trying to get a cup of coffee'," she said.
It's no wonder.
Released in 2002, Vardalos's "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is the most profitable independent film of all time, earning almost $369 million -- or a return of over 61 times on investment, according to CNBC.com.
Now a special 10th Anniversary Edition is coming to Blu-Ray, slated for release Tuesday. The edition includes a DVD version and a Digital Copy of the movie and features deleted scenes as well as a 30-minute retrospective with Vardalos and co-star John Corbett.

Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Larry Crowne Transformers 3: Still $30 Million Behind Transformers 2 In other box-office news, the Tom Hanks-Julia Roberts vehicle Larry Crowne opened — at no. 4 — with a measly $15.74m at 2,973 theaters over the four-day 4th of July weekend, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. The Tom Hanks-directed romantic comedy will have trouble matching its $30 million budget at the domestic box office — let alone recouping it. Nia Vardalos, Hanks' Larry Crowne co-writer, hasn't been very lucky since her 2002 sleeper hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding: Connie and Carla cumed at $8m in the Us/Canada in 2004; I Hate Valentine's Day took in a minuscule $11,004 in 2009; and now comes the widely lambasted Larry Crowne. Faring even worse, Monte Carlo, starring teen idol and reported Justin Bieber paramour Selena Gomez, drew only $8.75m at 2,743 sites in its first four days out. The romantic comedy cost a reported $20m.

Despite the recent revelation that it was in fact Transformers executive producer, and Hollywood's powerful granddaddy, Steven Spielberg who demanded director Michael Bay "fire her right now" after she compared Bay to, arguably the most famous dictator, Hitler during an interview, Megan Fox hasn't become persona no grata in La La Land.
In fact, given Sacha Baron Cohen's own penchant for ruffling feathers, being purposely controversial and delighting in making people uncomfortable, having a loose-lipped 25-year-old starlet in his upcoming movie The Dictator almost makes perfect sense
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox and funnyman John C. Reilly will be making cameos in Baron Cohen's "heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed."

"Cougar Town" is hoping to lure another well-known actress into its den -- and the show totally has an in to snare her.
Sources confirm to Zap2it that the ABC comedy is hoping to have Nia Vardalos ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding," "I Hate Valentine's Day") on as a guest star. The show's writers have already started spitballing story ideas for her.
Nothing is nailed down yet, but if Vardalos needs any extra convincing, she might get it at home: She's married to "Cougar Town" star Ian Gomez, who plays Andy.
Vardalos' next big-screen role will be in the Tom Hanks-directed "Larry Crowne," which she also co-wrote with Hanks. It's scheduled to open next summer. Her recent TV credits include guest spots on "The Good Guys" and "Drop Dead Diva."
What would you like to see Vardalos play on "Cougar Town"? A work rival of Jules (Courteney Cox), maybe?...

In a screed in the Wall Street Journal on Friday entitled "The Worst Movie Year Ever?," Joe Queenan claims that "2010 very possibly is the worst year in the history of motion pictures." It's the type of tiresomely cranky piece that seems to be reliably run at least once a year by some outlet or another, and I'm not going to bother picking apart Queenan's argument or his evidence, because... well, why bother?
These days anyone can cherry pick from a release date calendar and make a solid-seeming case that a cinematic year is either amazing or terrible. Jessica Biel was on a sugar high for days while filming new movie "Valentine's Day" after she was forced to repeatedly munch on doughnuts and chocolates in one indulgent shoot. The actress is part of a star-studded cast in the new Garry Marshall's romantic comedy, which includes Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher and Bradley Cooper.
And one particular day of filming left Biel buzzing around on set. She says, "We shot both scenes on the same day. So in the morning I ate about 10 doughnuts; in the afternoon I ate about 18 or 20 chocolates. I was on a sugar high for days, it was crazy!"
In the star-studded big screen project, Jessica Biel stars as publicist Kara Monahan who organizes her annual 'I Hate Valentine's Day' party but ends up being interested in sports reporter Jamie Foxx's Kelvin Briggs.

Looking for a rom-com fix this Valentine's weekend? Rather than fall for the calculated come-on of "Valentine's Day," you might want to revisit some much better films instead. For example:
» "Jerry Maguire"
» "Moonstruck"
» "Knocked Up"
» "House of 1000 Corpses"
Okay, I exaggerate. "Valentine's Day" does have a few good lines, and a couple of lively performances. But the movie is overstuffed with plot and characters; they're confusing to keep up with, and not all that interesting even when you're able to figure them out.
The story takes place on ... well, you know what day it takes place on. Ashton Kutcher is a love-struck Los Angeles florist who's just proposed to his sleep-over girlfriend, Jessica Alba. "I can be a sappy moron all day," he crows, with unwarranted presumption,...

Kutcher Ruined Valentine's Day Last Year
Ashton Kutcher is hoping his 2010 Valentine's Day celebration is better than last year's disaster - he spent it at a bar with his wife and her ex-husband after failing to book a table in time.
The actor and his wife Demi Moore agreed to spend the most romantic day of the year with Bruce Willis and his wife-to-be Emma Heming and he was put in charge of picking the restaurant where the celebrity foursome dined.
He recalls, "It was me, Demi, Bruce and Emma, which is great because we're all best friends and we all hang out. I got to be in charge of booking the restaurant.
"It was February 14th and we weren't in Hollywood, where I have a little clout making reservations. So I'm like calling around, trying to pull any kind of juice that I can to get a table. But, I hate dropping my own name, so I'm like, 'Yes, I'm calling from Mr. Kutcher's office, he would like a reservation.' And literally every place was booked... We ended up sitting at the bar some place."

Believe Zoe Kazan when she says she didn't mean to be so prolific. After first gaining notice last year in Revolutionary Road, the 26-year-old actress has appeared in film after film (after film!) this year, and this holiday season most of all. Kazan spent the early part of 2009 in I Hate Valentine's Day and the Tribeca entry The Exploding Girl, then sparked to Zac Efron in Me and Orson Welles and sparred with Robin Wright in Rebecca Miller's The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. She'll next be seen as the youngest daughter of exes Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin in the Nancy Meyers comedy It's Complicated.
In the meantime, Kazan is busy writing and trying to line up her next theater role while scheduling a trip to Sundance in January to support another film she appears in. With all that on her plate, it's a miracle that she carved...

When the first trailer for the mega-romance-movie Valentine's Day hit a few months ago, it focused heavily on the grown-up talents of Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba and company. But now, in the throes of New Moon-mania, it's time to bring out the big guns: Taylor Lautner is in this movie, alongside his rumored girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Check out the new trailer below, via Moviefone, in which the two Taylors canoodle on a football field, Ashton Kutcher narrates for some reason, and Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner and a bunch of other bitter ladies throw an "I Hate Valentine's Day" party. Worth noting: despite the fact that the trailer focuses heavily on Bradley Cooper and Julia Roberts flirting on a plane, according to Movieline, Cooper's character is in a relationship with Eric Dane's character, who has yet to utter a line of dialogue in a trailer.

'I am not opposed to playing a vampire,' actress says of possibly reuniting with her 'Valentine's Day' co-star.

Jessica Biel has now entered the "Twilight" universe, as she's co-starring with Taylor Lautner in the new romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," set to hit theaters early next year. So, now that Biel and Lautner have collaborated on the rom-com, could we see the actress set foot in Forks, Washington? She wouldn't rule it out.
"Well, I'm clearly familiar with the films. I haven't read the books, but I haven't seen any of the films yet so I'm not that familiar — I know the idea of what it's about," she told MTV News. "I mean, maybe [I'd be in the next 'Twilight' film]. That would be lovely. I am not opposed to playing a vampire."

Finally! It's the trailer for He's Just Not That Into You. Wait ... sorry! This is the new 50-million notable faces jam-packed into one neat romantic comedy package movie -- Valentine's Day. No, not the Nia Vardalos romcom I Hate Valentine's Day. That movie: A. Came out in the summer rather than, you know, the day of romance. B. Had a stupendously bad showing at the box office. But something tells me this flick won't have the same problem.
No, not because it looks particularly good, but because it's got the formula. It's coming out on Valentine's Day, so it's already catering to the couples itching for romantic cinema. It's got all the recognizable goofs and jokes we've seen before. Even more importantly, it's jam-packed with notable names and faces -- Julia Roberts (re-teaming with Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall), Bradley Cooper, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Patrick Dempsey, Topher Grace,...

Nothing can really compare to the craptacular showing of Zyzzyx Road, the film that brought in a whopping $30. That's no typo -- it didn't bring in $30 million, not even $30 thousand. I'm not sure any film could ever compete with that, except for maybe a For Justin & Kelly sequel, but there is a stinker this summer that comes sort of close.
It was set to be her big comeback. Two films, one she was headlining, and one that she wrote, directed, and starred in. The first made the rounds, but the other didn't go much further than a blog post or two. Figure out who I'm writing about yet? Yes, it's Nia Vardalos and her feature I Hate Valentine's Day. Gordon and the Whale dug into the little feature that couldn't, revealing that after spending $5 million and making well over $200 million on My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Valentine's Day only brought...

If the unofficial end of summer arrives with Labor Day Weekend, then all we've got left are a few more days to discuss the summer that was before she rides off into the sunset with her billions in box office dollars and a few more sequels already green-lit. But how does she compare to the summers of the past? A quick glance shows us that, unlike 2008, this summer we didn't get a Dark Knight or an Iron Man ... though we did get a Star Trek and a Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. We didn't get a Wanted, a Hellboy 2 or an Incredible Hulk, but we did get some smaller, smarter sci-fi films like Moon and District 9.
Pixar came through yet again, but the rest of this summer's animation slate seemed pretty weak. Same goes for comedies, with the exception of The Hangover, which kinda made up for the disappointing Land of the Lost,...

The other day I watched My Life in Ruins out of curiosity and because I was bored. In the past, I've been quite cynical about the movie and Nia Vardalos's upcoming film I Hate Valentine's Day, but when all was said and done, I was a captive audience. And you know what? I like Nia Vardalos. I want to root for her. But it was in spite of myself that not only did I like it... I cried. Yes, despite the hackneyed plot - woman uproots her life, is cranky and miserable and loveless, then gets her groove back, along with a hunky fellow; despite the use of every possible ethnic and sexual stereotype possible; despite a love interest whose name is Poupi Kakas; and despite the complete lack of innovation in terms of the romantic comedy genre.... I liked it. And I cried. And I was very embarrassed.

Welcome to The Morning Read. Since Hollywood tried to get a jump on the holiday weekend, everything opened on Wednesday, so "Public Enemies" and "Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs" are both playing wide, and for anyone who feels like they just didn't get enough Nia Vardalos with "My Life In Ruins" last month, her new film "I Hate Valentine's Day" is opening limited. How much you want to bet her character doesn't reeeeeally hate it? Hmmm? Fourth of July weekend normally means the news cycle slows down to a crawl, but already this morning, Sarah Palin announced she's resigning from...

Only two major releases are hitting theatres over this holiday long weekend, the first being Michael Mann's Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp, and the other being Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Both will probably make a boatload of cash, but will either of them be able to match Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? The only limited release this weekend is the second film starring Nia Vardalos this summer, I Hate Valentine's Day. She wrote and directed this one herself, and reteams with My Big Fat Greek Wedding co-star John Corbett. What will you be checking out? Stick a fork in Nia Var dalos. I've been to fu nerals that were a lot more fun than "I Hate Valentine's Day," her second alleged romantic comedy in less than a month.
At least the star of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" shared some of the blame for her most recent dreadful comeback try, "My Life in Ruins," with the writer and director.
This time, as writer-director-star of "Valentine's Day," Vardalos gives new meaning to the term triple threat.
Even bringing back leading man John Corbett from "Mbfgw" doesn't help this outing.

Comedian-turned-actor Judah Friedlander ("Zoolander," "American Splendor") wears a lot of hats, and that's not to say he's bogged down with multiple titles. No, if you're familiar with his stand-up, VH1 appearances -- or most likely, his role as sketch comedy writer Frank Rossitano on NBC's "30 Rock"-- you've seen his endless array of trucker hats with pithy messages on them ("World Champion" being his most recognizable proclamation). Add an oversized pair of thick-rimmed glasses and five o' clock shadow, and you've got the Friedlander look, which has its own methodology, as the Spirit Award nominee (for "Duane Hopwood") would soon school me.
Adding to Friedlander's eclectic résumé is the new indie rom-com "I Hate Valentine's Day," an encore reunion for "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" leads Nia Vardalos and John Corbett. Vardalos makes her directorial debut and stars as a Brooklyn florist with a strict five-date philosophy on romance, and...

Who is it that keeps making Nia Vardalos movies? Or is it a sign of impending apocalypse that two such terrible ones have been released in one month? Really, isn't it cheaper just to keep them on the shelf? It seemed unlikely that Vardalos could star in a movie flatter or more desultory than My Life in Ruins. But she's outdone herself with I Hate Valentine's Day, which she not only wrote but directed, in addition to starring. For good luck, apparently, she cast John Corbett -- her love interest in My Big Fat Greek Wedding -- as the male lead. But she could have cast anyone from Brad Pitt to a fencepost and it wouldn't have made a difference. The writing is that flavorless, the directing that inept. The story: Vardalos plays Genevieve, a florist in Brooklyn who has a rule about...

Flitting between past and present, Varda assembles a collage of memory and experience channeled to us through whimsical reconstruction, archival photographs, home movies and abstract compositions (including a room where the walls are entirely comprised of 35mm prints from her failed stab at fantasy, "Les Créatures") that frame the rich tapestry of her life in her own inimitable style.

Nia Vardalos, who wrote and starred in My Big Fat Greek Wedding and stars in the Tribeca closer My Life in Ruins, has another rom-com on tap. I Hate Valentine's Day, which she wrote and directed, pairs her up with onscreen hubby from Greek Wedding John Corbett. IFC Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the romantic comedy "I Hate Valentine's Day," starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett.
The acquisition reunites Vardalos and Corbett with IFC, which turned their previous screen teaming, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," into an unexpected indie blockbuster that grossed $241.4 million domestically in 2002.
While "Wedding" prospered as a platform release that gradually widened, "Valentine's" is employing the new video-on-demand model that IFC has been promoting. Beginning July 1, the distributor will make the movie available on its IFC in Theaters VOD platform, which will be augmented by theatrical engagements in New York and Los Angeles and select other cities.
The film will also go through IFC's exclusive deal with Blockbuster, making it available in Blockbuster's stores, its by-mail subscription service and digital downloads at Blockbuster.com.
