Finnish director Zaida Bergroth (“Tove”) is set to direct a Marianne Faithfull biopic titled “Faithfull” with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” star Freya Allan playing the swinging London pop star who passed away in January.

British actor and musician Jojo Macari is attached to star as Mick Jagger.

The project, now in pre-production, is being pitched to buyers by the U.K.’s Altitude Film Sales at the European Film Market in Berlin.

“From angel-innocent pop icon, actress of stage and screen and long-time muse and girlfriend of Mick Jagger, to homelessness, addiction, and ignominy,” says the synopsis for the film. “Faithfull” will depict Marianne Faithfull’s rollercoaster ride from the brightest lights of the wild 1960s of her youth, to fallen golden girl and then her remarkable phoenix-like rise and resurgence” that “establishes her as one of the great icons and true artists of our time,” it goes on to add.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull,” the statement reads (via the BBC).

“Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed.”

No official cause of death was given, but Faithfull’s health problems have been well documented through the years.

Marianne Faithfull, the British singer who scored hits including “As Tears Go By” and “Broken English” as she went from a highly publicized romantic relationship with Mick Jagger to worldwide fame in her own right, died Thursday. She was 78.

Faithfull’s death in London was announced by her family in a statement to the BBC.

Faithfull also appeared in such films as I’ll Never Forget What’s’isname (1967) and The Girl on the Motorcycle (1968) and on the stage in Three Sisters and Hamlet, though her career was curtailed in the 1970s by heroin addiction, alcoholism and homelessness.

According to a statement from her family, Faithfull “passed away peacefully” on Thursday, January 30th. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

A defining voice of the 1960s, Faithfull first rose to fame with the song “As Tears Go By,” which was written for her by The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. She proceeded to release several more hit singles throughout the decade, but her career became largely overshadowed by her tumultuous personal life, which included a high-profile relationship with Jagger and battles with addiction. Several of The Rolling Stones’ songs were apparently inspired by Jagger and Faithfull’s relationship, including “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Wild Horses,” and “Sister Morphine.”

Her passing was confirmed by the agent's office of her son, filmmaker Nick Cassavetes, who directed Rowlands in The Notebook. The news follows Cassavetes announcing that his mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's in June.

In The Notebook, which featured one of her most famous roles as the older version of Rachel McAdams' lead character, Rowlands played a woman suffering from dementia. The hit movie, released in 2004, still stands as one of the most popular romance movies ever made. For her part in the movie, Rowlands won a Best Supporting Actress award at the Golden Satellite Awards.

Her death was confirmed by the office of her son’s agent. In June, Nick Cassavetes, who directed his mother in “The Notebook,” shared that the three-time Emmy winner and two-time Oscar nominee had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Rowlands’ role as Mabel Longhetti in the 1974 drama “A Woman Under the Influence,” written for her and directed by husband John Cassavetes, landed the actor the first of two Academy Award nominations. The other nom was for “Gloria” (1980), also directed by her husband. In November 2015, she was awarded an honorary Academy Award at the annual Governors Awards in recognition of her storied career.

Best known for the films she made with her late husband, John Cassavetes, Rowlands was an immensely talented performer with incredible range who acted on the stage, in television, and in more than 40 films. No cause of death has been revealed.

James McCaffrey, a seasoned veteran of the small screen and the voice of the iconic video game character Max Payne, has died.

He was 65.

According to reports, McCaffrey died Sunday of multiple myeloma cancer.

He was probably most well-known to non-video game players for his work on Rescue Me, where he played Jimmy Keefe.

Keefe was a New York firefighter who lost his life on 9/11.

He appears as a ghost to his cousin, played by Denis Leary, and his character drives some of Leary's richest scenes as Leary's character tries to understand the loss and why he's still alive.

McCaffrey had a series regular role for the first three seasons before switching to a recurring capacity for the final four seasons.

The FX hit also starred John Scurti, Michael Lombardi, Steven Pasquale, and Andrea Roth.

Throughout his career, the actor had countless credits across movies, TV, and video games.

McCaffrey died after a battle with myeloma. The news was confirmed by his wife, actress Rochelle Boström, to The Hollywood Reporter.

The record was originally recorded by John Lennon in 1970, then covered by Faithfull in 1979 for her album Broken English. Now, it has been reimagined once again, this time by Cat Power and Iggy Pop.

Human remains recently discovered by hikers in the Mount Baldy wilderness outside Los Angeles were identified as those of British actor Julian Sands, who had been missing since January, authorities announced Tuesday.

On Saturday morning, civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they found the remains, which were then taken to the San Bernardino County Coroner for identification.

“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood,” the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands.”

An avid outdoorsman, Sands was reported missing by his family Jan. 13 after he had gone hiking in the Baldy Bowl Trail area of the San Gabriel Mountains that day.

Artist Victor Santos will be providing a story in the second issue of Masters of the Universe: Masterverse, a four-issue anthology series where writer Tim Seeley and a host of guest artists tell stories in the larger Motu multiverse. HBO and HBO Max will be home to new original films, highly anticipated streaming debuts of new releases, and the finales of three popular series throughout February. Below, we’ve assembled a complete list of everything new on HBO and HBO Max in February 2022, and it includes a new thriller from director Steven Soderbergh and starring Zoe Kravitz called “Kimi.” The original feature takes place in a Covid-19 pandemic Seattle and follows an agoraphobic tech worker who discovers violent crimes have occurred in a data stream. The Max Original film premieres on Feb. 10.

Also coming in February is the “Raised by Wolves” Season 2 premiere on Feb. 3, with new episodes released weekly, as well as the season premiere of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” on Feb. 20. And coming to a close in February are the original series “Euphoria,” “And Just Like That…” and “Peacemaker,” which all air finales this month.

For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.

The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.

February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.

There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

Marianne Faithfull has lived several lifetimes in her 74 years. After that ended, she fell deep into drugs, living for a while on the streets, before making a stunning comeback in 1979 with Broken English, an album of dark-hued, New Wave–influenced music that complemented the way her voice had grown deeper and more profound.

If there’s been one constant about Latino representation in Hollywood, it’s been the abysmal representation that has barely shifted in decades.

Despite some gains in recent years, a 2019 study from the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative revealed that underrepresentation and stereotypical roles for U.S.-based Latinx talent are, sadly, still the norm.

Grandave Capital launched in June on the eve of the Cannes Marche, with Tamara Nagahiro as head of acquisitions and sales. As a third-party equity investor, Grandave is involved with Paul Schrader’s “The Card Counter,” starring Tiffany Haddish, Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan and Willem Defoe, with Martin Scorsese serving as executive producer. It also has world sales rights on Venice Days film “My Tender Matador,” from Rodrigo Sepúlveda Urzúa, based on the queer classic novel by celebrated Chilean writer Pedro Lemebel.

Grandave’s production arm Broken English Prods. focuses on Latinx movie and TV projects, and announced its first project this summer, “7th & Union,” starring actor/comedian Omar Chaparro. At Toronto, Grandave is introducing Broken English’s “Like It Used to Be,” starring Gina Rodriguez.

Broken English Productions, the newly launched film finance arm of Grandave Capital, has hired Sony’s Screen Gems’ development and production executive Jolene Rodriguez as president.

She starts immediately, overseeing 7th & Union starring Omar Chaparro as executive producer. The popular Mexican actor is teaming with Mexican-Lebanese actress Edy Ganem (Devious Maids) and director Anthony Nardolillo (Shine) on the first Broken English production.

Rodriguez was at Screen Gems for ten years and executive produced the 2019 Cannes Marché feature, Keyhole Garden starring Zoe Saldana, currently in post-production. She was key in setting up two as yet untitled projects, a Gabrielle Union romantic comedy and a Gigi Guerrero Latinx horror film.

Rodriguez is on the Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and was recognized as one of the Powerful and Influential Latinos in Entertainment for 2019 by the Imagen Foundation.

Grandave Capital, a new entertainment finance company, has launched Broken English Productions to focus on movie and TV projects centered on Latinx stories told by Latinx filmakers.

Grandave will invest about $20 million starting next year in two to four Latinx projects with emerging writers and directors and budgets of up to $5 million. It will announce its first film at the start of the Cannes Virtual Market. Grandave will also invest in the same number of larger – up to $15 million — outside projects. The first of these was Paul Shrader’s The Card Counter, exec produced by Martin Scorsese, that Deadline reported this week is restarting production in early July.

Grandave president and partner Stanley Preschutti anticpates the firm’s investment this year will be about $5 million. He’ll be working with acquisitions and sales executive Tamara Nagahiro, fomerly of Octane Entertainment, Premiere Entertainment and president, international, at Taiwanese movie distributor Ssg.

Ian Bonhôte, a double BAFTA nominee for the feature documentary “McQueen,” has attached as the director on narrative feature “Faithfull,” about the singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull. Altitude has acquired worldwide sales rights.

As previously reported, Lucy Boynton, who played Mary Austin in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and appears in Ryan Murphy’s “The Politician” for Netflix, stars as Faithfull.

Casting is underway for the role of Mick Jagger with casting director Sarah Crowe, BAFTA-nominated for “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” on board. Production is set for this fall.

The story is set in London in the mid-1960s and depicts Faithfull’s roller-coaster journey from being discovered as a convent schoolgirl of 17, finding fame as a pop idol, living through hedonistic times and a tumultuous romance with Jagger, to being a homeless drug addict in London.

As we revealed back in October, Bohemian Rhapsody actress Lucy Boynton will star as Marianne Faithfull, the iconic singer-songwriter who recorded 21 albums including the acclaimed Broken English and the more recent Negative Capability. Her publicized romance with Mick Jagger was influential on the Rolling Stones.

The film will track her rollercoaster career from initial stardom, her time as a homeless drug addict, and then her subsequent recovery.

Casting director Sarah Crowe (The Personal History Of David Copperfield) has been brought onboard and the search is now underway to fill the role of Jagger.

Producers on the pic are Julia Taylor-Stanley of Artemis Films, Colin Vaines of Synchronistic Pictures, and Andee Ryder of Misfits Entertainment. UK outfit Altitude has acquired worldwide sales rights.

Lucy Boyton will be stepping into the iconic shoes of rock singer Marianne Faithfull in an upcoming biopic, Deadline reports. While details about the film are incredibly slim at the moment, Boynton is reportedly in talks to also make her debut as executive producer when production begins next Summer. This is an exciting move for Boynton, who portrayed Freddie Mercury's partner Mary Austin, alongside Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, and previously played Raphina, a musician's love interest in the musical drama Sing Street.

Happy 50th birthday today to the one and only Parker Posey. The 'Queen of Indies' of the 1990s isn't as celebrated these days and, frankly, we could use a lot more of her. So we're eager to read her hilariously titled memoir (pictured left) which was published this summer. Marianne Faithfull feels out of sorts. “I have a cold, the weather’s been terribly hard here in Paris and, what else … well, the usual,” she says on a call from her home in the City of Lights. “I’ve got to have a shoulder replacement, so I’m in a lot of pain.” Despite living in a state of discomfort, her voice sounds strong and there’s something about how her words come through her London accent that suggests confidence. “In the end it will be much better,” she concedes.

Who’ll Stop the Train?: Apatow Matures with Schumer’s Impressive Skills

The most inappropriate element of Judd Apatow’s latest film Trainwreck is its title, which promises to be a bawdy, crass marathon of blatant innuendo with a high potential for poor taste, if judging solely by its marketing publicity and reputation of its director and star/writer, comedian Amy Schumer. What a surprise to find not only a rather mature but even sensible depiction of generally undiscussed difficulties concerning relationships. Schumer shines in her own generously concocted marinade, deftly spinning an excellent characterization for herself while managing a surprising amount of appealing supporting characters. With a running time just falling over the two hour mark, you’re bound to find a few instances worthy of trimming, but Schumer’s pleasurable hurricane hits almost all its marks, a thankful reprieve from the usual glut of testosterone fueled R rated adult studio comedies.

Zoe Cassavetes’ 2007 debut feature “Broken English,” starring Parker Posey, is an astutely realized portrait of a woman struggling to find herself while searching for love. It’s an underrated picture, and eight years has been far too long between features for Cassavetes, who debuted her second film “Day Out of Days,” at the Los Angeles Film Festival this week. While following a similar theme of a woman adrift and searching for meaning, this film replaces work in place of love as a self-worth defining element. For actresses in Hollywood, their work isn’t always in their control, due to sexism, ageism and other outside influences, and Cassavetes deftly explores these issues with a great deal of nuance and an unflinching eye.
