Star Trek 4 is an idea that may never be. It is supposed to be the next film in the Star Trek Kelvin timeline of films, which also includes Star Trek 2009, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and Star Trek: Beyond. Beyond, the most recent of the films, came out in 2016. It's nearly been nine full years since we've gotten the last film in this theatrical run. Frankly, it's becoming more and more clear we don't need a fourth film in the series.
Would we like a fourth one? Sure. Save for Beyond, I've ultimately found the films to be fun and engaging. Not pure Star Trek, but at a time when we had no new shows it was good enough fodder to hold us over. Yet, as we get further and further away from that era and more and more into the era of streaming, these films no longer have the same appeal.

In the coming months, we hope to hear news about the next two Star Trek films. We're supposed to get two of them and while neither have official names yet, we've been referring to them as Star Trek 4 and Star Trek: Origins. However, both names will likely be changed in time.
The theatrical films have long been a source of enjoyment for fans, with the series producing more good films than bad. Albeit the film franchise is far from perfect. Still, the last three films were successful to a degree, with it peaking financially with Star Trek 2009, only for things to come crashing back down with Star Trek: Beyond. The latest film in the modern franchise was praised for a lot of reasons, but the trailer did seem to turn off a lot of potential fans before the film even came out.

An upcoming Netflix thriller, Apex, is set to bring together new and old Marvel stars Charlize Theron and Eric Bana, along with Carry-On'sTaron Egerton. Apex is “described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs.”
Eric Bana is the latest actor to be added to the Apex cast, as Deadline reports, although his role is not known. The film sees Theron playing a rock climber who finds herself in the terrifying situation of being hunted in the wilderness. Egerton plays the psychopath stalking Theron’s character. The Carry-On star was announced as an Apex cast member in November 2024. Reykjavík, Iceland-born filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur is set to direct the film while the screenplay was written by Jeremy Robbins, whose credits include The Purge television series.
While further details of Apex are in short supply, another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place with the addition of Eric Bana, who will...

Most in Star Trek fandom can agree that Leonard Nimoy’s Tos portrayal of a half Vulcan/half Human is and will remain the singularly quintessential Spock across all mediums and timelines - Kelvin or otherwise. Given Nimoy's Spock in Tos and various Star Trek feature films, the canon continues with other actors performing the daunting task of portraying Spock in feature film reboots and TV series. Actors Zachary Quinto and Ethan Peck have both recreated the iconic Spock role in their respective Star Trek projections and each has a unique take on this enigmatic, logic-driven first officer, with mommy issues.
Zachary Quinto’s Spock takes place in the Kelvin timeline based on the rebooted Star Trek feature films, beginning with “Star Trek” (2009), to “Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013), and “Star Trek Beyond” (2016). Within Star Trek canon, Spock is a half-human Vulcan struggling with suppressing his human emotions over logic, reason,...

Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) joined Starfleet on a dare, and he won that dare by the end of Star Trek (2009). Director J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Trek: The Original Series and recast its iconic characters with younger faces like Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Set in the alternate Kelvin timeline, Star Trek (2009) launched Kirk, Spock, and the crew of the USS Enterprise on a mission to stop the Romulan time-traveling villain Nero (Eric Bana) from destroying the United Federation of Planets.
Star Trek (2009) was a new origin of how James T. Kirk became Captain of the Enterprise. But first, Kirk had to join Starfleet. In this parallel Star Trek timeline, Jim grew up without a father. Lieutenant George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth) sacrificed himself to save the USS Kelvin's crew from Nero. After a bar fight with a group of Starfleet Cadets, Jim Kirk was encouraged...

Star Trek never showed the full aftermath of one of the franchise's greatest tragedies that profoundly affected Ambassador Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Although there have been several major disasters throughout Star Trek's vast timeline, few cataclysmic events were as devastating as the Romulan supernova that took place in 2387. Starfleet mounted a massive rescue effort upon learning of the supernova, but the rescue armada was mostly destroyed when rogue synths attacked the Utopia Planitia shipyards on Mars. Starfleet then called off the rescue effort and went on the defensive.
Introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series, the Romulans have long been enemies of the United Federation of Planets, and the devastating Romulan supernova altered the balance of power in Star Trek's galaxy. A disaster like this should have affected everyone in the Beta Quadrant, the Federation, and neighboring star systems, but the Romulan supernova...

Star Trek needs to avoid the current trend in Hollywood by remaking anything. Too often we see stories get rebooted, retconned, or otherwise restarted just to continue a successful franchise. The most recent series, and one that I won't deny I'm very interested in, is the Dexter reboot. With a firm conclusion in Dexter: New Blood, a new series is in the works that rejects the ending of New Blood.
This new sequel series will go hand in hand with a new prequel series. I'm quite excited about it and hopefully, it does things the right way. It's something that Star Trek can't really do and needs to avoid doing. Thankfully, Star Trek hasn't done the reboot idea much, they're always one bad year creatively from going into the typical cesspool that is content reboots.

Star Trek (2009) set Lt. Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) on an altered career trajectory where they almost end up switching starships. Director J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot successfully recast the iconic characters from Star Trek: The Original Series with younger actors. Set in the alternate Kelvin timeline, Star Trek (2009)'s characters lived different lives than in Star Trek's Prime timeline, including how they all met and became the crew of the USS Enterprise.
Star Trek (2009)'s Kelvin timeline was created by Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan time traveler seeking revenge on Ambassador Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and the United Federation of Planets. Nero implemented his plan to annihilate the Federation in 2258, destroying a Klingon moon and armada with his massive 24th-century starship, the Narada. While a Cadet at Starfleet Academy, Uhura decoded a Klingon distress call. During James T. Kirk's hearing for cheating on the Kobayashi Maru no-win scenario,...

Star Trek 2009 saw Uhura [Zoe Saldana] and Spock [Zachary Quinto] in a romantic relationship. While some fans didn't like the pairing, others liked that the chemistry first shown in Star Trek: The Original Series between Leonard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols was at last given an outlet. Of course, Saldana and Quinto didn't have the same type of connection as their predecessors, but they seemed to make the relationship work...until it didn't.
Now, Saldana wants to know what will happen with her character and Quinto's if Star Trek 4 does get made. As she told Variety [via Trekmovie], "it just makes sense to see what is the next step in their relationship." Though the two parted ways with Uhura attempting to return the amulet Spock had given her, there is still plenty by way of storyline for the future of this couple. Saldana also wants to know how the couple will work together in the future.

One of the biggest questions around Star Trek 4, aside from whether or not it'll get made, is 'who is going to be in it?'. We know that the surviving main cast will be present, assuming it gets made. Yet, beyond them, we're not sure. There are a lot of characters that we've met over the last few years that we'd like to see return to some degree.
There's Gaila from Star Trek 2009, Carol Marcus from Star Trek: Into Darkness, and Jaylah from Star Trek: Beyond. Not to mention side characters like Keenser, rumored characters like George Kirk, and characters played by rising stars like Navigation Officer Darwin (played by Aisha Hinds).
There are plenty of names to pull from, so much so that bringing in some new character from the original series for the sake of it seems pointless. Dare we say even a bit gauche? We...

The Orions are arguably one of the more difficult aliens in the Star Trek canon to get a handle on. Originally they were depicted in line with other alien races of the era across sci-fi. A group of aliens who used members of their own race to entice others. In the original series, they became known as the "Orion slave girls".
In Star Trek: Enterprise, it was shown that the Orion women were far more capable and not always the victims. In Star Trek 2009, and Star Trek: Lower Decks, we know some Orions were part of Starfleet. In fact, they further expanded on the aliens and further explored more of their history.
Namely that they were pirates who did awful things to people, including, but not limited to slave trading. Enterprise really tried to flip the script on the race and Lower Decks added some much-needed levity to them.

Captain James T. Kirk and Lieutenant Nyota Uhura met the same way in two different Star Trek universes. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) voyage through the stars together for decades in Star Trek: The Original Series and the first six Star Trek movies. J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009) depicted how James T. Each week that goes by it seemingly becomes less likely that we'll see a fourth film in the Kelvin timeline of films. Starting in 2009, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana teamed up with a host of other dynamic talents to help create a riveting take on Star Trek. While some aspects have not aged well, namely those stupid lens flares, the film is still largely liked by the fandom.
Following installations (Into Darkness and Beyond) were less celebrated, but still had its supporters. The decreasing return on revenue for each film, however, caused the film franchise to go cold. With the rise of CBS All-Access and subsequently Paramount+, the focus went from making shorter films to longer-form series. The idea is that fans will stick around longer for a 12-part series than they would for a 90-minute film.

A few days ago, Paramount once again yanked the classic Star Trek films from Pararmount+ with no warning or explanation given. It is the umpteenth time that Paramount has made the bone-headed decision to break up the Star Trek collection; arguably one of the core selling points aside from the NFL, for fans to invest in Paramount+.
The removal has once again been met with groans from the fandom, who recognize this as a serious mismanagement of the Star Trek intellectual property (IP). It's also just another moment in time that fans can look to, put a pin on, and cite as a reason why they're losing faith in Paramount. With pending new ownership coming in, the hope is that the Skydance crew can stabilize the brand and get things back on course, but there is concern that there is no more goodwill left for the Paramount brand by the Star Trek faithful.

Star Trek 2009 had a pretty awesome cast. Brought together to tell more stories of the original USS Enterprise, the cast did a great job resembling the original group from 1966. The crew looked, felt, and expanded the roles that so many iconic actors and actresses took up before them. While some couldn't get past Zachary Quinto as Spock or Chris Pine as James Kirk, a lot of fans were very fond of their performances.
Ourselves included. Yet, one name that was left off of the cast and crew was former X-Men star James McAvoy. The man who would play a young Charles Xavier was set to join the cast in an unnamed role but would end up turning the part down. It's unsure what the role was, but fair chance it was that of a Romulan.

James McAvoy could have joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009), but as whom? Abrams successfully rebooted the dormant Star Trek movie franchise, recasting Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the iconic crew of the Starship Enterprise with a new, younger cast led by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Star Trek (2009) proved audiences would accept different actors playing Star Trek: The Original Series' characters, and Abrams' first Star Trek would become the highest-grossing Star Trek movie and spawn two sequels.
Star Trek (2009)'s cast is one of the reasons it was a hit with audiences. Without doing an impression of William Shatner impression, Chris Pine captured Captain Kirk's risk-taking essence and innate heroism. Zachary Quinto embodied Spock's buried volatility, which was even more impressive since he acted opposite the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy. Karl Urban perfectly conveyed Dr. Leonard McCoy's irascible nature, Zoe Saldana charmingly revamped Lt.

The long delay and doubt regarding the production and release of Star Trek 4 is a direct result of the biggest change in J.J. Abrams' reboot movies. Since 2016's premiere of Star Trek: Beyond, fans have been waiting for the release of its elusive sequel. After bouncing around different directors and writers, Star Trek 4's future is still unknown. With numerous reasons why the film has been delayed, it's easy to wonder why the success of J.J. Abrams' first three reboot films, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond, wasn't enough to ensure the production of another movie.

Despite being one of the oldest characters in Star Trek history, Captain Christopher Pike wasn't really a compelling character until Anson Mount took the role in Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. Even then, it has taken Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Pike to really come into his own as a likable, inspirational lead character. Part of this is because he's not exactly like previous versions of Pike.
Captain Pike first appeared in the original Star Trek pilot episode, "The Cage." Portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter, this Pike was irritable and brooding. He was not only isolated from his crew but openly adversarial with various members. While "The Cage" is an interesting episode overall, it is reasonable to say that this Captain Pike is not really all that fun to watch.

Exclusive: The Disney+ and Hulu Korean spy drama Tempest has added John Cho (Star Trek), Christopher Gorham (The Lincoln Lawyer), Alicia Hannah-Kim (Cobra Kai) and Jacob Bertrand (Cobra Kai) to its cast, Deadline has learned. They join the previously announced leads Gianna Jun and Gang Dongwon.
Disney+ and Hulu tease “assassinations, political games, conspiracies and spies will collide” in 2025 when Tempest premieres in the United States. Production is currently underway in Seoul.
From writer Chung Seokyung, Tempest follows Seo Munju (Gianna Jun), a highly accomplished diplomat and former ambassador to the United States, and Sanho (Gang Dongwon), an international special agent shrouded in a veil of secrets, as they race to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the future stability of the Korean peninsula.
Details regarding who Cho, Gorham, Hannah-Kim and Bertrand will portray are under wraps.
Tempest is directed by Kim Heewon and co-directed by Korean martial arts director Heo Myunghaeng (The Outlaws 4). The series is produced by Imaginus, Showrunners, Studio AA and Action School.
Cho can next be seen in the upcoming sci-fi horror film Afraid opposite Katherine Waterston which opens on August 30. He is best known for his portrayal of Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek (2009) and its two sequels Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016) and Harold Lee in the Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg hit comedy Harold & Kumar franchise led by Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004). His recent credits include HBO’s The Sympathizer, The Afterparty for Apple TV+, Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop and Fox’s The Exorcist for TV. His film credits include Don’t Make Me Go (2022), The Grudge (2019) and The Graduates, which he also executive produced.
The Tempest reunites Cho and Gorham, who starred in the ABC series Ugly Betty.
Gorham most recently starred in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. Before that, he had series regular roles in Netflix’s Insatiable, USA’s Covert Affairs and The WB’s Popular. He is best known for his portrayal of Henry Grubstick in Ugly Betty opposite America Ferrera.
Hannah-Kim most recently starred as Sensei Kim Da-eun in seasons 5 and 6 of Cobra Kai, a continuation of The Karate Kid story starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. Hannah-Kim co-starred in the drama series alongside Bertrand. Cobra Kai was No. 1 on TV globally in its debut week on Netflix with nearly 15M views. Since then, its viewership doubled its viewership for Season 6A. Before that, she recurred in Max’s Minx.
Bertrand is currently starring in Netflix’s Cobra Kai as Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz, a role he’s portrayed across the show’s six seasons. His prior credits include lead roles in Max’s Batwheels, Disney Channel’s The Swap and for Nickelodeon, Jinxed and Marvin Marvin.

Anson Mount is currently making Trekkies swoon in his role as Captain Christopher Pike on "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds." Before him, though, there was Jeffrey Hunter and Bruce Greenwood (who played Pike in the two J.J Abrams-directed "Star Trek" films).
"Star Trek" cleverly canonized "The Cage" by reintroducing Pike as Jim Kirk's (William Shatner) predecessor as captain of the Enterprise. The 2009 "Star Trek" film (an alternate timeline origin story for the original series) took that a step further and featured Pike as Kirk's mentor. His first scene is him pushing Kirk to sign up for Starfleet.
In that role of a fatherly commanding officer, Greenwood was perfectly cast. He's an authoritative and personable screen presence, one who can even make a death merchant like opioid king Roderick Usher on "The Fall of the House of Usher" charming.
Robert Pine appeared in Star Trek before his son Chris Pine, playing two characters in different series. Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise both featured appearances by Robert Pine, showcasing his range as an actor. Chris Pine's desire to return as Captain Kirk mirrors his father's continued involvement in the franchise.

Zoe Saldana revitalized the character of Lieutenant Uhura in the Star Trek reboot, giving her a backstory and a first name. Saldana's strong-willed portrayal of Uhura made her a fan favorite, and her roles in popular franchises like Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy have made her one of Hollywood's highest-grossing actresses. Despite controversy over the romance subplot between Uhura and Spock, Saldana would be open to reprising her role in a potential Star Trek 4.
Star Trek 2009 was J.J. Abrams' foray into the Star Trek franchise that introduced younger faces as familiar characters, and Zoe Saldana reclaimed the role of Lieutenant Nyota Uhura for all three reboot films. Auditioning for J.J. Abrams was fun for Chris Pine. Acting with a capital A, talking phasers and battleships. Pine initially didn't think he was good enough for Star Trek. J.J. Abrams made the audition fun and reactive. Playing Captain Kirk in Star Trek launched Pine's career to new heights, leading to other major roles in Hollywood.
Chris Pine fondly recalls his audition with J.J. Abrams to become Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek (2009). Pine became the first actor besides WIlliam Shatner to play the iconic Captain of the Starship Enterprise, a role he reprised in two sequels, 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016's Star Trek Beyond. Star Trek launched Pine's career to another level. Chris went on to star in Wonder Woman, Hell or High Water, Dungeons and Dragons, and Pine is now the co-writer and director of the new film, Poolman.

J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 rejuvenated the franchise with a new timeline, dynamic characters, and high-stakes action. Nero's vengeful plan to destroy Earth stemmed from Romulus' destruction, leading to Kirk and Spock's heroic battle against him. Kirk's journey to becoming Captain of the USS Enterprise was marked by ambition, friendship, and the will to save Earth.
J.J. The Kelvin timeline by J.J. Abrams was a better Star Trek reboot option than Erik Jendresen's war movie, appealing to wider audiences. Jendresen's darker and grittier take on Star Trek in "The Beginning" may not have resonated well with fans of the franchise. J.J. Abrams' vibrant and adventurous reboot in 2009 brought back the fun needed for the revitalization of the Star Trek franchise in theaters.
Of the two Star Trek reboot options, J.J. Abrams' Kelvin timeline was a better option than Erik Jendresen's Starfleet war movie. In 2006, following the cancelation of Star Trek: Enterprise, and the poor box office performance of Star Trek: Nemesis, Paramount were keen to revive the franchise's fortunes in movie theaters. The studio commissioned a script, provisionally titled Star Trek: The Beginning, from Erik Jendresen, who had been a writer on Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' acclaimed World War 2 miniseries, Band of Brothers.

Paramount confirmed Untitled Star Trek Origin Movie by director Toby Haynes will release in 2025. The film may not focus on Starship Enterprise as it's set decades before J.J. The upcoming Untitled Star Trek Origin Movie could do something only one other Star Trek movie has done. At Cinema Con 2024, Paramount Studios confirmed the Star Trek origin film that had previously been rumored, and revealed that it was slated for a 2025 release. Chris Pine admits needing to tone down his William Shatner-style acting in Star Trek (2009) to make the role his own. J.J. Abrams directed Pine to embody Captain Kirk with "less Shatner" to avoid mimicking the original actor too closely. Pine acknowledges the challenge of balancing homage to William Shatner's Kirk while also bringing his own flair to the character.
Chris Pine reveals J.J. Abrams' biggest direction when filming Star Trek (2009) was "less Shatner." Pine took over the role of Captain James T. Kirk in Abrams' rebooted Star Trek movie trilogy, which includes 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016's Star Trek Beyond. To play Kirk, Pine researched William Shatner's iconic performances as the original Captain Kirk, and he may have adopted too many "Shatnerisms" at the onset of Star Trek (2009).

Its loyal and huge fanbase has thus been eagerly waiting, hoping to see the cast of the rebooted saga once again. While negotiations with actors and writers have been broken several times before, the inclusion of Steve Yockey as the new screenwriter has created a significant buzz. And Paramount still hopes that the sequel to Beyond will be the last film of the rebooted movie series featuring its original cast.

James T. Kirk was the youngest Captain in Starfleet, rising fast in both timelines. Kirk went from Cadet to Lieutenant to full Captain in Star Trek 2009's Kelvin Timeline. Chris Pine's Kirk became Captain of the Enterprise at just 25 years old.

Destruction of USS Enterprise is a common theme in Star Trek movies for big screen spectacle. Some films managed to thrill without destroying Enterprise, becoming franchise hits. The USS Enterprise in Star Trek IV, V, Insurrection, and Star Trek 2009 remains mostly intact, avoiding destruction.
The starship Enterprise avoided destruction in only five out of the thirteen Star Trek movies. Both the USS Enterprise commanded by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and the USS Enterprise-d, commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) were completely destroyed in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek Generations. However, six more Star Trek movies have doled out considerable amounts of destruction to the cinematic versions of the starship Enterprise. The events of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan left the USS Enterprise in need of serious repairs, while Star Trek: First Contact saw the USS Enterprise-e half assimilated by the Borg Collective.

Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock's friendship in Star Trek (2009) was inspired by the bond between John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles. The personal tragedies experienced by Kirk and Spock in the alternate timeline strengthened their connection, just as Lennon and McCartney were brought together by their shared hardships. Besides Zachary Quinto's Spock, Chris Pine's Captain James T. Kirk and Zoe Saldaña's Lt. Nyota Uhura were also notably different from the familiar versions...

Star Trek 4 has faced numerous delays and obstacles, leading to skepticism among fans about its actual release. Writer-director Lindsey Anderson Beer confirms that the project is still in progress but acknowledges the challenges and her love for everyone involved. Fans express their doubts and jokes about the uncertainty surrounding Star Trek 4, comparing it to mythical creatures and emphasizing the need to see it in theaters to believe it.
A new report that Star Trek 4 is "still on the tracks" to happen has drawn a wave of understandable skepticism from Star Trek fans online. 7 years after Star Trek Beyond left theaters, the long-rumored fourth Star Trek movie produced by J.J. Abrams has resulted in nothing more than false starts, a 2023 release date announced and rescinded by Paramount, and big-name filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Noah Hawley, S.J. Clarkson, and Matt Shakman becoming attached to Star Trek 4 before...

The post-9/11 world was rough on "Star Trek." The not-super-popular "Star Trek: Enterprise" debuted on September 26, 2001, and the world wasn't in the mood. The U.S. president at the time, George W. Bush, began to affect violent, revenge-forward rhetoric, and many U.S. citizens were in a bitter, wounded mindset. While some may say that the utopian future of "Trek" was needed at that time, one can see how its idealism felt out of place. "Star Trek" would have us reaching out to our enemies and solving problems through diplomacy. That suggested course of action didn't sit well with a nation itching to enact justice. It's no wonder films like "The Avengers" took off in the post-9/11 milieu; the Avengers avenge the destruction of our cities. Diplomacy was out, freelance super-powered military mercs were in.
So when "Enterprise" was canceled in 2005 after four seasons, it seemed that "Star Trek" was at an end.

Lt. Kirk and Commander Seven of Nine both have unique journeys to becoming Captains of the USS Enterprise, a newer kind of macro story in Star Trek. J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 movie explores Kirk's rise from Starfleet Cadet to Acting Captain of the Enterprise, a story not replicated in the TV series. The recent era of Star Trek focuses on telling the story of how Captains earn their commands, a departure from the traditional fully formed Captain introductions.
Star Trek's James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) don't have many similarities on the surface, but they share one important story in common. On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Lt. Kirk was just promoted to First Officer of the USS Farragut en route to his destiny to become Captain of the USS Enterprise. Star Trek: Picard season 3 ended with Commander Seven of Nine's rise to Captain of the USS Enterpise-g.

Where to Watch Powered by Star Trek 4 has faced numerous delays and struggles in getting off the ground, leaving its future uncertain. The underperformance of Star Trek Beyond and changes in creative direction have hindered the film's progress. The cast members, including Zachary Quinto, are open to returning for Star Trek 4 but are also content with the success of the existing Paramount+ shows.
Zachary Quinto offers a disappointing update on Star Trek 4, the long-delayed fourth installment of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot saga set in the alternate Kelvin timeline. Paramount Pictures had previously set a December 2023 release date for Star Trek 4, alternatively, the 14th overall film in the Star Trek movie franchise, but director Matt Shakman departed the project in 2022. Star Trek 4 has been stuck in development hell in the 7+ years since Star Trek Beyond was released in theaters in the summer of 2016.

The Romulan supernova, depicted in Star Trek 2009, proves to be a threat to the entire galaxy, with catastrophic results for the Romulans. Star Trek: Countdown explores the wider implications of the supernova, revealing that it was triggered by another supernova and set off a chain reaction. While Spock is successful in stopping the supernova's destructive force from spreading, the Romulans are left scattered and the face of the Star Trek universe is forever changed.
The Romulan supernova, which served as a catalyst for the plot of JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek film, was a major event in the Star Trek galaxy, but now Idw Publishing's Star Trek: Countdown miniseries is making the true extent of the cosmic tragedy clear, as it proves to be a threat to the entire galaxy at large.

With the introduction of James T. Kirk on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the show has the opportunity to bring back the important women in his life, including his mother Winona and his estranged love interest Dr. Carol Marcus. Strange New Worlds has a clean slate to work with in developing the characters of James and Lt. Sam Kirk's mother, Winona Kirk, as little is known about her. It would be plausible for Carol Marcus to make an appearance in Strange New Worlds, as it takes place around the same time as when she and James became involved. Fans would love to see how their relationship first began.
Now that James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) has been properly introduced on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the show has the opportunity to reveal two of the most important women in his life - his mother, Winona, and his future flame,...

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 6 - "Lost in Translation"
George Kirk's presence in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds highlights his significant impact on both James and Sam Kirk in the Prime Timeline, unlike in the alternate Kelvin Timeline. The tension between James and Sam is rooted in their father's favoritism, as James follows closely in George's footsteps, while Sam chose a different career path in Starfleet. George Kirk's legacy in the Prime Timeline is larger than his death in the 2009 Star Trek film, as he lives to see James become Captain of the Enterprise, and his influence shapes the Kirk brothers' destinies.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds gave the father of Lt. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) and Lt. Sam Kirk (Dan Jeannotte) an even greater importance than his death in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 movie. George Kirk is name-dropped by the Kirk...
