We live in a post-Snyder-cut world. And that means every other film that was ever a victim of studio-mandated cuts has fans clamoring for the release of the extended cut. A new report seemingly confirms that a longer cut of Joel Schumacher's 1995 superhero movie Batman Forever did exist at one time, and goes onto provide further details regarding its thickened plot. The big question remains, will fans get to see this much darker edition of the fabled movie?
Joel Schumacher died this past June, which has sparked new interest in Batman Forever, and this 170-Minute cut of the movie. The theatrical release clocks in at just under two hours. While it's being confirmed that Schumacher did put together an extended cut, Warner Bros. representatives say there's no plan to release it at this time. And, in fact, they are not sure this mythical Schumacher cut has survived 25 years later.

Frozen 2 may not be the critical success that its predecessor was, but some fascinating myths and legends inspired it.

Fans of “American Horror Story” agree Frances Conroy is the show’s secret weapon, with a versatility that ranges from a witty fashionista to the Angel of Death. There is a quiet intensity to many of Conroy’s performances that makes her one of the show’s most captivating cast members. It all began in Season 1 with Moira O’Hara, a ghost maid who appears as her seductive younger self to straight men with wandering eyes while presenting as herself to everyone else. She earned an Emmy nomination for the role, ultimately losing to her onscreen sparring partner Jessica Lange. Check out our photo gallery above to see all of Conroy’s “Ahs” characters ranked worst to best.

Another familiar player is stopping by American Horror Story: 1984 next Wednesday (FX, 10/9c), and he’s sporting some appropriately killer facial hair.
The official promo for the season’s seventh episode, “The Lady in White,” gives us our first look at Dylan McDermott‘s entry into Brooke Thompson’s circle of insanity. The video may be short, but we see McDermott (and his mustache) in the backseat of Donna and Brooke’s car when they’re pulled over by a concerned police officer.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Episode 100,” the sixth episode of “American Horror Story: 1984.”
One hundred episodes is a big milestone in television these days, so kudos to “American Horror Story” for getting there. Also kudos for pulling out all the stops for this big episode — it definitely turned the construct of the season on its head.
“Episode 100” began a year later from the main events in “American Horror Story: 1984” — jumping to in 1985, where a woman in a hotel went banging on the door of a room with music blaring from inside (“Idol only plays one way — full throttle”). The Night Stalker aka Richard Ramirez (Zach Villa) answered the door and tried to drag her into the room, presumably to kill her, but Jingles (John Carroll Lynch) stopped him. Generally, the titles of giant spider movies are pretty direct. Arachnophobia, Tarantula, Eight Legged Freaks: all monikers that allow you to infer exactly what the plot might be. But perhaps there's never been a title quite so up-front as Big Ass Spider! And indeed Mike Mendez' film is about a big ass spider. It's not even a figure of speech. The spider really does have a big ass, and you can see it in action in this latest trailer. There's probably no need to tell you the plot. What we will say is that Big Ass Spider! is a genuinely funny movie that's been picking up raves on the festival circuit for several months now. It's not so-bad-it's-good in that SyFy / Asylum / Sharktopus way. It's just good.Greg Grunberg, Lombardo Boyar, Ray Wise and Lin Shaye head the cast, and Big Ass Spider! gets a theatrical and VOD...

A bit of silliness now, as we look at the Doctor Who episodes that would work if the Doctor were Batman. We like silliness.
This feature contains spoilers.
There are not any stories that could survive the removal of the Doctor and the Tardis without large changes apart from Planet of the Ood (a curious episode, where the real hero dies in a giant brain and the Ood sing a pleasant warning to the Doctor). So, part of the stipulation here is that stories can be tweaked to remove the Tardis, and reworked so they can involve Batman without too many narrative hijinks.
Still, if you're chiefly written by Grant Morrison, I suppose your main character being in a different temporal-spatial location to the bulk of the story is but a minor hindrance. If you can summarise Superman's origin story in four panels...

No, it's not an Asylum release, and it's not a Syfy original... it's just one of the many movies premiering at this year's SXSW Midnighters program! Big Ass Spider! is a high concept / low budget monster movie with a title that is primed and ready to go viral. The only thing missing is a catch phrase uttered by Samuel L. Jackson. But is it too self-aware to be genuinely funny? Directed by Mike Mendez (The Gravedancers), the movie stars Greg Grunberg (Heroes), Lin Shaye (Insidious) and Ray Wise (Twin Peaks). Unfortunately, the digital effects look pretty terrible at times... but, wait, maybe they're terrible on purpose! Movies like this tend to walk a fine line, I'm just not quite sure what side it will fall on. Big Ass Spider! premieres next month in Austin; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Former stuntman and director of Snakes on a Plane
The brazenly trashy, cheap-and-cheerful B-movie is more or less defunct in modern cinema. One of its few authentic latter-day practitioners was the film-maker David R Ellis, who has been found dead at the age of 60 in a hotel in South Africa, where he was preparing to make a live-action version of the violent anime Kite.
Ellis came to widespread attention in 2006 when he directed Snakes on a Plane, the exploitation action thriller with a title that doubled as its own synopsis. Samuel L Jackson played an FBI agent on board a flight packed with venomous snakes planted to kill the witness who is in his care. There have been dumber and more precarious murder plots in the movies, but not many.

Ah yes, kids! It's in the air. Everyone's just a little happier and smiling just a bit more. Festive decor lines the streets, we've been spiking our eggnog since Tuesday, and I'm finally done adding glitter and paint to my testicles (one red, one green) so I can dangle them like mistletoe anywhere I can that won’t involve me getting thrown into jail for the weekend.
That being said, because we love you we've assembled right here a bounty of holiday goodies bound to keep you busy in the most disturbing of ways all weekend long. Some brand new, some ghosts from Christmas past, some snowbound holiday fun with a sled and a pooch, and of course our absolute favorite yuletide short film from Hobo With a Shotgun director Jason Eisener: Treevenge.
Dig into the goodies below, and stay warm, safe, and hopefully a little tipsy!

Jaws is the end-all, be-all of killer shark movies. But it hasn’t been like that statement has scared off other film-makers. Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of killer shark movies, ranging from pointless Jaws sequels, to plain old fun ones like Deep Blue Sea, to inventive and actual scary ones like Open Water, to the bad, bad CG “mega” shark movies that has littered the Dtv market, essentially making this sub-genre a joke. Also, since Jaws public awareness and myth have collided into our psyche, with new found knowledge of the creatures to still public misguided fears. See Shark Water for an eye-opening experience. Unlike David Ellis’ Snakes on a Plane, his Shark Night 3D had one goal at which it succeeded in doing: it was fun.
Forgive me if I’m wrong, but the only other 3D shark movie around is Jaws 3D, and…um, have you seen that?...

"Fabio & Fabio" (Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro) are the writing directing team behind the hit scifi short Afterville. Their new found fame on the fest circuit has meant that they have their hands in a few projects including this intriguing new one-room thriller about a newly married couple who are forced to confront the cracks in their relationship by a viscous captor.
Directing from the Fabios' script is Enrico Clerico Nasino who's biggest credit appears to be as second A.D. on The International.

Still awaiting its official name, inside you'll find several behind-the-scenes videos for David R. Ellis' Shark Night 3D that arrives in theaters September 2 from Relativity Media. Shark Night revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation. Sinqua Walls, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Thesps Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, and Katharine McPhee all star. I'd quickly say keeps your hopes in check as I can guarantee this won't be the Jaws for the 3D generation (especially since we've already seen Jaws 3D). Ellis is responsible for the horrid The Final Destination, Snakes on a Plane and the abysmal Asylum. Although, I will admit that I quite enjoy his Final Destination 2.

Cast: Bill Moseley, Lin Shaye, Christa Campbell, Andrea Leon, Nivek Ogre
If you think the worst horror film of 2010 was the remake/reboot/raping of Nightmare on Elm Street, you obviously haven't seen 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, the sequel to 2005's remake of the H. G. Lewis drive-in classic. I'd suggest you leave it that way, as returning director Tim Sullivan unleashes the cinematic equivalent of a night of excessive drinking. By the time the credits roll, you'll feel nauseated and find yourself a few billion brain cells lighter.
The movie starts as the ghosts of Pleasant Valley rematerializing for the anniversary of their death at the hands of rogue Yankee soldiers. But they discover the supply of Northerners to kill and consume has dried up, as the local sheriff has pulled the detour signs that drive tourists their way.

A month or so back Relativity Media acquired David R. Ellis' Shark Night 3D for release in theaters on September 2, 2011. Bloody Disgusting learned of some additional photography that would bring an evil mayor into the town (a little homage to Jaws?), while also hinting at a potential new title: The Brair Lake Murders. While we've confirmed the title is Not official (yet), it is the current "working title". The flick revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. Sinqua Walls, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Thesps Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, and Katharine McPhee all star. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation. Ellis directed The Final Destination, along with Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination 2 and the horrid Asylum.

It was announced earlier this week that Relativity Media - who now has its own distribution arm after acquiring the marketing and distribution operations of Overture Films earlier this year - had scored domestic rights to Shark Night 3D. We learned today that the tentatively titled horror pic will officially hit theaters on September 2. The David R. Ellis-directed pic stars Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka. The story, penned by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, surrounds a group of college friends spending a weekend at a house on the lake, only to find a shark lurking. Sounds cool, except for the fact that Ellis is directing. Did you see Asylum? You really should(n't). Relativity is also releasing Season of the Witch next year.

Sara Paxton (The Last House on the Left) and Katharine McPhee (The House Bunny) are sinking their teeth into Shark Night 3D, from Sierra Pictures and Incentive Filmed Entertainment. Dustin Milligan (Extract) has also been casting alongside the previous announced Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore and Sinqua Walls. David R. Ellis (The Final Destination 3D, Final Destination 2, Snakes on a Plane, Asylum) begins lensing the action-thriller in Shreveport, La., later this month. From a script by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, Shark Knight revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake house, only to find all sorts of dangerous sharks lurking beneath the waters.

First details have been released for David R. Ellis' Shark Night 3D, which they hope will be Jaws for the 3D generation (doubtful considering how bad of a job Ellis did with The Final Destination). Ellis also directed Final Destination 2, Snakes on a Plane and the abysmal Asylum that makes me question his heart as a director. Ellis is experienced in water shoots: he was second unit director on such films as The Perfect Storm and Deep Blue Sea.

Continuing the day of never ending news, Deadline is reporting that David R. Ellis - director of The Final Destination 3D - will tackle the third dimension yet again. Ellis has committed to direct Shark Night 3D, a film that will shoot this summer in Louisiana. Written by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, Incentive Filmed Entertainment is financing the $28 million film with the hope that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation. Anyone who has seen Asylum might understand why I'd bet against that. Ellis also directed Final Destination 2 and Snakes on a Plane for New Line. Deadline notes that Ellis is experienced in water shoots: he was second unit director on such films as The Perfect Storm and Deep Blue Sea.

The year was 2008, and it was pretty memorable.

I’m not sure just how firmly rooted in our genre this one will be, but it’s a new film from Snakes on a Plane and Final Destination 2/4 director David R. Ellis, so if nothing else it’ll be fun. Actually, anyone who's seen Asylum (DVD review) can make a good argument why it may not be, but I digress.
Variety reports that Ellis is attached to helm Six Days Till Midnight, a thriller in which a man is given six days to answer a question. For every day he gets the answer wrong, a loved one is killed, culminating in his own death on the sixth day.
"I've been doing high-concept B movies, and this is the best script I've been associated with, a thriller with a great twist," Ellis told the trade, and that’s a pretty good endorsement if you consider this man’s career to date.

MGM Home Entertainment brings horror home with their gruesome slasher film Asylum premiering on DVD July 15th. Directed by up-and-coming horror filmmaker David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Cellular). Asylum is a twisted thrill-ride of psychotic terror that aims to scare. Asylum follows a group of six freshman college students as they uncover dark hidden secrets of their new dormitory and features a sexy group of young up-and-comers, including the beautiful Sarah Roemer (Disturbia, The Grudge 2), Travis Van Winkle (Transformers), Jake Muxworthy (I Heart Huckabees, Borderland), Cody Kasch (“Desperate Housewives”) and Carolina Garcia (Supercross). Once an infamous mental institution where a demented doctor performed tortuous experiments on his teenage patients, the students find themselves trapped in their dorm, looking for an escape as the ghost of the deranged psychiatrist begins treating them with his crude lobotomy practices.
