Madison Avenue is giving new consideration to the Super Bowl, the annual media extravaganza that it has seemed less excited about in recent years.
Fox Sports has sold all its available commercial inventory in Super Bowl Liv, slated to be broadcast from Miami Gardens, Florida, on February 2, 2020. It’s the first time in half a decade that the network showing the big game hasn’t had to go down to the wire to dispense with its high-priced ad slots, and suggests advertisers have found new appeal in the live telecast in an era when most of TV’s best-known programming has a significant component of on-demand viewership.
“We have sold all of our in-game inventory in the Super Bowl,” says Seth Winter, Fox’s executive vice president of sports sales. “There are a number of advertisers, frankly, who couldn’t land their spots with us because their creative wasn’t...

Neil Patrick Harris doesn’t think that any other platform but Netflix could have made a series of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” happen the way it has — in terms of both the show’s structure as well as the budget.
“I don’t think we would have been afforded the creative liberties that we are,” he said in an interview with IndieWire. “People who have read the books value that each book takes place in a complete location; a fully formed, ridiculous locale that I don’t think you could afford to create — on top of a mountain, a house dangling off of a ledge, a herpetologist’s mansion with giant topiaries in the front.”
Harris spoke to IndieWire about the recently premiered second season of the richly detailed young adult fantasy series while he was midway through production on Season 3 — which will be the last season, as Netflix and the team,...

Back in February, we reported that Gravity co-writer Jonas Cuaron had come aboard to write and direct a new Zorro reboot, simply titled Z, which will be produced by Lantica Media and Sobini Films. Today, we have word that the filmmaker has found his leading man in Gael Garcia Bernal, who starred in the director's new film Desierto, slated for release sometime later this year. Production on Z is being eyed to start this fall at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios.
Deadline reports that the project will be financed by Lantica Media and sold to international distributors by Pantelion Films at the upcoming Cannes film market. While no specific details were given, this report reveals that the story is set in the near future and offers a re-imagined take on the iconic character. Here's what producer Mark Amin had to say about the casting in a statement.
"I have always loved Gael for this role.

Jonas Cuaron, Alfonso Cuaron's son who penned "Gravity" and recently wrote and directed "Desierto," has been hired to pen and direct a new take on Zorro.
"Z" will be produced by Lantica Media and Sobini Films, but there's little to no details on what approach Cuaron will take with the material.
Over the last few years the companies were developing "Zorro Reborn," a post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro and follows a masked and caped stranger taking on tyrants in a Mad Max-style wasteland. Whether that will change with Cuaron's hiring is unclear, though if he's writing a new script expect at least some reworking of that premise.
Shooting will take place at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios starting this Summer, and the project will be on sale at the European Film Market in Berlin this month. Mark Amin will produce.

From The Craft and The Birds to The Fugitive and She's All That, the many film reboots and remakes currently in the works...
Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. This, then, is the current state of play. We've removed a bunch of projects that seem utterly dead - the once mooted remakes of Videodrome and Timecrimes, for instance - but we'll keep this list up to date as and when we hear of more.

The new reboot of the Zorro films, Zorro Reborn, will see the next movie set in the near future.
Lantica Media and Sobini Films have between them picked up the rights to the planned Zorro movie reboot. It's been 17 years since Martin Campbell's excellent The Mask Of Zorro, starring Antonio Banderas, and ten years since the not so impressive sequel, The Legend Of Zorro. 20th Century Fox had been overseeing a remake/reboot these past few years, and at one stage, it was a project interesting Bryan Singer. But now Zorro has a new home, it's speeding towards production. Singer is no longer involved, as you might expect given his X-Men commitments.

After languishing in development at 20th Century Fox for years, the post-apocalyptic project Zorro Reborn is moving forward once again, thanks to a new partnership with Lantica Media and Sobini Films. Lantica will provide the financing, with production to begin in March 2016 at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, with Mark Amin (Stonehearst Asylum) set to produce. Heat Vision Blog reports that the studios are currently searching for a filmmaker to take on this project.
Zorro Reborn was first in development at 20th Century Fox back in 2011, with pre-visualization specialist Rpin Suwannath then set to make his directorial debut, from a screenplay by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who would go on to create the Netflix series Hemlock Grove. Gael García Bernal was in talks to star back in 2012, but a deal never materialized. Over the years, filmmakers such as Bryan Singer, Ricardo de Montreuil, Gary Whitta and Justin Marks were attached.

After becoming stuck in development hell, the post-apocalyptic Zorro project "Zorro Reborn" has been resurrected.
Lantica Media and Sobini Films are teaming for the feature and are aiming to begin shooting it in March at the Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios.
The story is described as a post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro and follows a masked and caped stranger taking on tyrants.
This however shifts him out of the Spanish colonial era of California in which he was set and into a "Mad Max"-esque apocalyptic wasteland.
The character will also be fuelled more by vengeance than justice. Mark Amin ("Good Kill," "Frida") will produce and a search is now underway for a director.
The project was previously setup at 20th Century Fox with various filmmakers and actors attached at different points including Bryan Singer and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Another reboot is on the cards for the masked do-gooder Zorro. THR has the scoop on this latest iteration, which is more accurately an update on a long-gestating project previously set up over at Fox. Lantica Media and Sobini Films now have guardianship of the film, with an eye to principal photography on Zorro Reborn kicking off early 2016 at Pinewood Studios in the Dominican Republic.
According to THR, the outlined proposal for the movie is “a post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro, the pulp hero created in 1919. The traditional stories cast Zorro as a hero of peasants and farmers who fought against corrupt and brutal officials of Spanish-held California. Reborn is set in the near future but keeps the idea of a masked and caped stranger taking on tyrants.”
Antonio Banderas played the iconic character twice previously, in 1998’s swashbuckling action-adventure The Mask Of Zorro and its sequel The Legend of Zorro.

At that time, the script for "Zorro Reborn" was penned by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the guys behind the Dracula reboot "Harker".

Filmmakers have been trying to get this post-apocalyptic Zorro reboot off the ground for over a decade at 20th Century Fox, but the film seems to have found new life with Lantica Media and Sobini Films, who are hoping to film in early 2016. Come inside to learn more.
Since we started this site (back in the days we called ourselves The Movie Pool), I've been writing about Zorro Reborn. No joke. The reality is this film has been "in the works" since long before that! The story is a modern-ish take on the classic hero. Rather than taking place in the past, as the other films have done, Zorro Reborn takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, though the basics of the hero remain the same.
For a while, though, nothing seemed to be happening with this project, and in the last couple years many of us thought it was dead in the water.

A couple of years ago there was a new film version of Zorro announced called Zorro Reborn. It was described as "a futuristic reboot of the Zorro mythology." The film was in development at 20th Century Fox with short film director Ricardo de Montreuil attached. It may be dead at the moment, but a concept trailer for the film was shot, and it looks like it would have been a very different, very fun take on the legendary character. He's like a ninja!
There is a script for the movie that has gone through the hands of several screenwriters, such as Glenn Gers, Stevie Long, Brian McGreevy, Lee Shipman, and Justin Marks. There's been no movement on the film in awhile, but you never know, maybe one day it will get the greenlight. If it does, does it look like something you would enjoy watching? ...

Liam Hemsworth is reportedly close to taking the lead role in Ricardo de Montreuil's new film, "The Raven." The movie is based on de Montreuil's short of the same name, and is being set up at Universal Pictures.
Deadline has the news and said Universal won't confirm their report. Still, Hemsworth is allegedly considering playing the main character in the science fiction film. It's unclear if his character would be the same as the one that is featured in de Montreuil's award-winning 2010 short of it he would play someone different.
"The Raven" is described as a "sci-fi conspiracy thriller, set in the near future." It's clear from the short, which can be watched below, that this future involves robots of some sort and humans with superhuman powers. For nearly a century, the masked outlaw Zorro has been a popular character who in books and films has been featured defending against tyrannical villains who seek to oppress the masses. A couple of months ago we heard that Eli Roth is preparing to get behind the camera again for the first time since he directed Hostel: Part II back in 2007. His new project is tentatively titled The Green Inferno and is rumoured to be a cannibal flick. Before he gets to that, however, there is another much higher profile project that could end up taking precedence. Roth is now said to be circling Harker, a retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula that was acquired by Warner Brothers last year. The thing that really makes this a high profile project, aside from the fact that it's a studio picture, is that they've already got a big name attached to play Dracula... and that big name is none other than Russell Crowe. According to Deadline, Warner Brothers wants to fast track Harker and is currently in negotiations with Roth to take the helm.

Looks like Eli Roth is on a hot track to direct again. He's been laying low since Hostel: Part II, but has been gearing up to shoot a horror film inspired by his time in Chile called The Green Inferno. Now Deadline is reporting that Roth is attached to direct a Dracula horror thriller called Harker, in development at Warner Bros. It was picked up last year as a spec script written by Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy (Zorro Reborn) and it eventually got Russell Crowe attached (but not in the lead role). However, things may be switching up a bit with Roth at the helm. "Once they figure out the story then they'll figure out who's right to play him." Harker is a Dracula reimagining that "sets up [a] sleuth [tracking Dracula] as a potential new franchise character." That's the one-line pitch for this that seems to be going around, ...

Hello Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba and Gael García Bernal! As big-budget film-making increasingly targets new markets, here are the actors from around the world who could capitalise
Hollywood has always reinforced its star ranks with choice acting talent from around the world. Some groups succeed better than others: Anglo and Australian actors are, culturally speaking, a natural fit; performers from the east Asia struggle for acceptance outside martial arts roles. But, as big-budget film-making increasingly targets non-American audiences, expect these ground rules to change. The uptake of personnel from other continents will increase, and their involvement will become more central: they won't just be there as exotic add-ons; they will function as full audience proxies – in the ways true stars do – for these emerging markets. The sidekicks will become the protagonists. Here's a few of the new breed already in the global frame.

Gael García Bernal is in Cannes to help get the word out on his latest movie, No, a gripping (if un-Google-able) drama about the campaign that brought down Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1988. More on that soon, but while we were in Bernal’s presence we asked for an update on two other projects he’s linked to: rapier-slashing reboot Zorro Reborn and Martin Scorsese’s long-gestating epic, Silence.Zorro would be a change of pace for Bernal, given that his IMDb page is currently devoid of Hollywood blockbusters. Is he worried he might be selling out? “You know, I feel like an outsider now, more than ever,” he says. “I make career deisions that are not necessarily in accord with the expected narrative. But I don’t want to be the boring guy that always says, ‘I don’t want to do a commercial movie”, so I might challenge that by doing one!

Of course this is just the rumour mill in full swing at the moment but would be quite the turn up if it all comes to fruition. So now with 'RoboCop' and 'Total Recall' remakes sorted out is it...

"Terra Nova" had a lot of problems, one of which was its poorly written characters, which was really surprising given the level of talent that was involved. That being said, one former cast member is heading to darker pastures.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Landon Liboiron (who played the teen son on the sleepy series) has been tapped to join Netflix's original series Hemlock Grove.

Hemlock Grove, a gripping tale of murder, mystery and monsters set in a ravaged Pennsylvania steel town, starring Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard and produced by Gaumont International Television, will be available for Netflix members to watch instantly, beginning early in 2013.
Hemlock Grove starts with the body of a young girl, mangled and murdered in the shadow of the former Godfrey steel mill. Some suspect an escapee from the White Tower, a biotech facility owned by the former steel magnates. Others believe the killer could be Peter, a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, who tells his classmates he’s a werewolf. Or it could be Roman (Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister Shelley is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Janssen), the otherworldly beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.

Title: Casa de mi Padre Director: Matt Piedmont (‘Funny or Die Presents…’) Starring: Will Ferrell, Diego Luna (‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’), Gael Garcia Bernal (‘Zorro Reborn’) and Genesis Rodriguez (‘Man on a Ledge’) Shooting a film based on the current sociocultural differences between America and Mexico can be a taunting task for any filmmaker. But deciding to film the movie as a comedy in an entirely foreign language, Spanish, and casting a main actor who also doesn’t know the language can pose extreme technical and social issues. Graphic novel fans got a bit of a treat this week with "Saga," which marks the return to monthly comics for Brian K. Vaughan, one of the medium's most acclaimed talents of the past few years. The writer has come to fame over the last decade or so from creating award-winning works like "Runaways," "Pride of Baghdad" and "Ex Machina," as well as screenplay writing for "Lost" and in the spec market. But he's still best known for "Y: The Last Man," his ongoing series about a virus that wipes out every man on the planet, bar one, failing magician Yorick, and his pet monkey, who must fight for survival in a world where women rule the roost.

With Gael Garcia Bernal taking the lead role in 20th Century Fox's reboot Zorro Reborn, the studio is now sorting out a director.
Variety reports that Peruvian filmmaker Ricardo de Montreuil (pictured) is in line to take on the project, as he will direct a screen test for Bernal. But nothing is yet signed and sealed.
De Montreuil attracted Hollywood's attention with his short film The Raven - a sci-fi thriller set in a future Los Angeles - which is to be turned into a full-length feature by Universal.
The new Zorro film is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and portrays the title character as a masked vigilante bent on getting revenge against an evil tyrant and his gang of mercenaries.
It's not just Zorro that's coming back. We're also getting more from Chronicle, the found footage flick about three high-school students whose lives spin out of control after they gain superpowers.

Fox's post apocalyptic take on the Zorro legend, Zorro Reborn, might just have found its director...
We recently reported that Gael Garcia Bernal had been cast as the lead in Zorro Reborn, a post apocalyptic take on the legend of the character. The film is based on a script that was originally written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy (Harker) and later rewritten by Glenn Gers (Fracture).
In addition to the post apocalyptic setting, Zorro Reborn will distance itself further from the traditions of the legend by not setting the action in either California or Mexico.
When we brought you the news of Bernal’s casting, Fox was still without a director. But now? It appears it has a favourite in Peruvian director Ricardo de Montreuil, whose short film The Raven has impressed many an exec of late. The short can be found on YouTube if you want to see what caught Fox’s eye.

Gael Garcia Bernal is prepping for a screen test that will determine whether or not he'll star in 20th Century Fox's new action-adventure epic Zorro Reborn. Yet this test may also serve as an audition for the film's possible helmer Ricardo de Montreuil. Variety reveals the Peruvian filmmaker, who first earned Hollywood's notice in 2010 with his stunning sci-fi short The Raven, will direct Bernal in the screen test. Zorro Reborn's producers haven't yet signed someone to helm, so while there is no deal in place at present, this test could mean they are considering de Montreuil. For Zorro Reborn, Fox is looking to create a extreme reinvention of the iconic character, positing him into a futuristic setting where his vigilante efforts will battle against a more technologically advanced villain than a previous Zorros. Fracture scribe Glen Gers created the project's early drafts, while Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the...

Fox’s plans to produce a post-apocalyptic spin on the masked vigilante Zorro, titled Zorro Reborn, has prompted a lot of eyebrow raising and/or eye rolling so far. That immediate skepticism subsided somewhat a few weeks back, when acclaimed character actor Gael Garcia Bernal was tapped to portray a futuristic version of the eponymous warrior.
Today we can report on another interesting development in the Zorro reboot’s journey to the big screen: the current front-runner to direct the feature is Peruvian filmmaker Ricardo de Montreuil, a fellow who gained a lot of notice around Tinseltown thanks to his 2010 short titled “The Raven.”

Peruvian filmmaker Ricardo de Montreuil ("Mancora") has emerged as a directorial contender for "Zorro Reborn" at 20th Century Fox reports Variety.
The film radically reinvents the Zorro mythology by shifting the period action to a post-apocalyptic future. The masked hero of the people also becomes a vigilante bent on getting revenge against an evil tyrant and his gang of mercenaries.
De Montreuil is set helm a screen test with Zorro's likely leading man Gael Garcia Bernal, but no deal is yet in place for him to direct the film.
"Harker" scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy penned the most recent draft while Mark Amin, Cami Winikoff and David Higgins will produce.

The director of the popular short film The Raven, Ricardo de Montreuil, has come out on top as 20th Century Fox's choice to direct Zorro Reborn.
The film is described as "a futuristic reboot of the Zorro mythology that will not be set in California or Mexico, despite the story's Western themes." Gael Garcia Bernal (Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Science of Sleep, Blindness) will be taking on the role of the legendary Spanish swordsman as a masked vigilante hell-bent on revenge against an evil tyrant and his gang of mercenaries.
Zorro Reborn was scripted by Glenn Gers, along with Harker scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. According to Variety as of right now De Montreuil will direct the screen test for Bernal, but he's not officially signed on to direct the movie... yet. I imagine they're waiting to see how he does with the screen test.

Zorro Reborn, a futuristic take on the swashbuckling Spaniard, recently cast Gael Garcia Bernal has the titular character, but still needed a director for movie. Now comes word (via Collider) that Peruvian helmer Ricardo de Montreuil is now a contender to direct the update, as he’s set to direct a screen test for Bernal. Montreuil is best known for directing the live-action short The Raven, which Universal recently acquired the rights to. The short is in the same vein as Chronicle and takes place in an alternate and futuristic Los Angeles.
After watching the short, I have to say, I understand why Fox is talking Montreuil for possibly directing Zorro Reborn. The CGI used in the short looks amazing, and could be just the things we could be seeing in Zorro Reborn. But I am still having trouble wrapping my head around the fact that Zorro will take place in the future,...

With Gael García Bernal pegged to lead Fox’s Zorro reboot, Zorro Reborn, the search for a director is starting to zero in on Ricardo de Montreuil. Though probably not a name you have any reaction to at first glance, he was, at one point, almost in the Hollywood game; Universal and Mark Wahlberg took a liking to his six-minute short, The Raven, back in December of 2010. And then that was kind of it.
So while nothing’s been said on that front in the 15 months since things were developing, Variety tells us that Montreuil is now one of the top contenders for Zorro. (I’m guessing The Raven and prior interest in it played a big part in this coming together, for what it may be worth.) Variety reports that Peruvian director Ricardo de Montreuil is in talks with 20th Century Fox to helm Zorro Reborn; a futuristic take on the classic character which re-imagines him as a masked vigilante who faces off against an evil tyrant and his gang of mercenaries in a mission of revenge. I don't know about the rest of you, but I actually enjoyed Antonio Banderas as Zorro. The character was a perfect fit for his persona in my opinion. Just as the El Mariachi character was in Desperado. So when I heard they were going to reboot Zorro, I wondered who was going to fill those perfect shoes. Then it was announced that Gael García Bernal would be taking on the role in Zorro Reborn and I was floored that I didn't think of that casting first. Go rewatch Y Tu Mama Tambien if you...
