Extra! Extra!

Frank McHugh is fired from his newspaper for failing to get a story on fake psychic Mae Busch. He goes to what he imagines to be a speakeasy. It turns out to be where Miss Busch and associates are practicing their racket.

It's one of the RKO comedy shorts directed by Harry Sweet, a specialist in absurdities from the silent era, who died in a plane crash the year after this was released at the age of 31. Jerry Mandy has a very funny late career role; dressed in a turban and an immense beard, he is a hypnotist who keeps putting himself to sleep.

Although McHugh isn't much fun playing his pretty much standard character at the center of the action, the supporting cast, including Ralph Ince, kept me smiling.
