Check Out Our Exclusive Interview With The Diplomat Director Shivam Nair! (Photo Credit – YouTube)
The Diplomat director Shivam Nair shot to fame with the television serial Sea Hawks in the late 1990s. Like many directors who came from the small screen, including his close friends Neeraj Pandey, Sriram Raghavan, Imtiaz Ali, and Anurag Kashyap, Shivam took a while to make it to the big screen but has since made a distinct name for himself.
Ahista Ahista (2006) was his debut film, followed by the brilliant Maharathi (2008), produced by Paresh Rawal and based on a Gujarati play. The film did not perform well, primarily because it was released in the 26/11 week, and it took Shivam seven years to make his next, Bhaag Johnny, his first for T-Series.
Shivam Nair’s old friend, Neeraj, then called him to direct his spin on Baby, the 2017 Naam Shabana, after which they co-directed Special Ops, among...

Speaking to Subhash K Jha, director Shivam Nair discusses his new film, The Diplomat. He says he enjoyed working with star John Abraham and is very happy with the final film, plus so much more.
After a slow start, The Diplomat has gathered momentum over the weekend.
Sir, we tried to make an honest film. I enjoyed making the film. I have a gut feeling it will work. Slowly, it will reach the audiences; it’s my belief…. We are hoping for the success of the movie… which can help us to make such a movie in the future.
Don’t you think it was a mistake to release the film on Holi?
Sir, I know nothing about marketing strategies. I just made the film that I wanted to. The rest was left to the experts. All I know is that I made the story without compromises. I did not...

Shaadi Ke Side Effects sees two Bollywood heavyweights, actor-director-producer-musician extraordinaire Farhan Akhtar and the incorrigible Vidya Balan come together for a comedy about the struggles of a young married couple to keep the spark of romance alive as their family life progresses.
Pritam, yet another Bollywood heavy champion, fresh off his success of Dhoom 3 is at the helm of the film’s soundtrack with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattcharya. It features the vocal talents of Neeti Mohan (‘Jiya’ – Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Arjit Singh (‘Tum Hi Ho’ – Aashiqui 2), Mohit Chauhan (‘Sadda Haq’ – Rockstar) and Farhan Akhtar amongst others.
Harry’s Not A Brahmachari is loud and ordinary. And having 3 supposedly different versions of it does little to change that opinion.
I‘m Sorry Par Tumse Pyar Ho Gaya has several likeable elements and mostly eliminates the bad first impression from its predecessor. Nikhil Paul George’s lazy-cool vocals interspersed...

Vishal-Shekhar, Ranbir Kapoor and Siddharth Anand were a part of the team that boasts of chartbuster tracks like ,Khuda Jaane and Ahista Ahista in Bachna Ae Haseeno which released two years ago. Circa 2010 and they have come together yet again for Anjaana Anjaani, the music of which is now out on stands and comes with huge expectations. One wonders though if he also carried the pressure of delivering yet another Khuda Jaane in Anjaana Anjaani, especially because it stays on to be one of the most melodious romantic numbers that Ranbir boasts of in his short career so far?"I don't think that any of us had Khuda Jaane in our mind at all," Siddharth negates the theory here, "An album has to have its own calling and this time around, the ace up our sleeves is the title track of Anjaana Anjaani which is romantic melody.

Abhay Deol is happy to be associated with cinema which is different and breaks quite a few rules when it comes to Bollywood diktats. While he would be seen soon in Aisha, a Sonam Kapoor starrer which again doesn't follow the Bollywood school of entertainment, Abhay has consciously been doing films where he could afford to take risks rather than follow a conventional route. "When I did Socha Na Tha and Ahista Ahista at the beginning of my career, I did try doing something differ...

Though she made her debut with young heartthrob Shahid Kapur, Soha Ali Khan has mostly offbeat roles like the ones she played in ‘Antar Mahal’, ‘Ahista Ahista’, ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ ‘Dil Kabbadi’, ‘Dhoondte Reh Jaoge’ and even the commercially successful ‘Rang De Basanti’.

Maharathi may have flopped but Paresh Rawal has always stood by the film's director Shivam Nair whom he believes has a 'modern approach towards story telling'."Though his Ahista Ahista hadn't done well, all those who watched the film had liked it. I too had seen the film along with some of my associates and we liked the way Shivam had treat the subject. Woh ek thehrav leke chalta hai rather than making things frivolous", says Paresh Rawal who had not just conceptualized but also got the entire project together....

Click above for more movie stills It's difficult to please someone like Paresh Rawal. The actor has worked with some of the biggest names in the business and continues to call the shots even today. Incidentally, the versatile actor has been labelled a comedian thanks to the number of comedies he has acted in since the past few years. Doesn't he get tired of comedy? "I get put off by comic roles that don't make sense. Where the director has no control over the script. He ruins the subject due to his inability," Paresh admits frankly. The actor has enacted three different roles in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and I have to admit, Paresh's [and Abhay's too] performance bowled me over completely. "Dibakar [Banerjee; the director] deserves the credit. Usme dum hain," Paresh says with utmost modesty. Next on the cards is Maharathi, a play Paresh had produced and directed in the 1980s. Why didn't he direct its cinematic version?...

Production bug has bitten Abhay Deol as well. He is turning producer with Junction and has named his production company as 'Forbidden Films'. "Why 'Forbidden Films'? Because it gets the point across about the kind of films I wish to make. So many times I hear statements like 'this kind of film won't work' or 'a subject like this is a taboo'. I want to make such films and show that they can indeed work. I like the name of my production house since it is not overbearing or stylish but rather quite nice and simple", says Abhay Deol whose Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! is all set to arrive this Friday. Junction would be the first film to arrive under Abhay Deol's banner. However, it's shooting would begin only in September/October 2009. The film was supposed to begin last year with a different producer, so how did Abhay come into picture?...
