Not A Wholesome Trotting Race

Jack Duffy is terrified of horses, so when Gayle Lloyd wants to lift the mortgage by running her horse in the harness race that Saturday, he's chosen to drive the rig. The rest of the movie is about the farcical mishaps on the way to his inevitable victory..

Duffy was one of those slapstick comedians who could take what appeared to be bonebreaking falls for the movie audience's amusement. He also was a skilled makeup man, who made himself up like he was a scrawny seventy-year-old in a morning suit. Actually, when he appeared in this one, he was in his mid-40s. When his career slowed down with the coming of sounds, he continued to work in the industry as a make-up man. He died in 1939 at the age of 56.
