Before Korean dramas exploded globally and started appealing more to Western audiences, the beginnings of K-dramas were the absolute best. Nothing can compare to the nostalgic feeling of the early 2000s. Between the light-hearted OSTs, wacky, brightly colored clothing, and the body-switching storylines, there was always something to make you belly laugh and feel good. And for most Og fans, many got their start into Korean TV and culture from shows such as Boys Over Flowers, Secret Garden, Winter Sonata, Full House, or the beloved Goong otherwise known as Princess Hours.

There was a time, not so long ago, when Roman Polanski was the toast of the film industry in France, where the director has been living since 1978, when he fled the United States before sentencing after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Despite the scandal and ongoing legal issues, the veteran auteur has flourished as a filmmaker in his adopted country, celebrated as a lifelong member of France’s illustrious Academie des Beaux Arts (Academy of Fine Arts) and showered with a half-dozen César Awards, the latest three of which, including best director, are for his 2019 drama “An Officer and a Spy.”
But things are changing. The director’s latest César win, combined with more recent allegations of sexual misconduct, sparked outrage from French feminist groups and led to the 21-member board of the organization that oversees the Césars to resign en masse. Polanski has denied the more recent misconduct allegations.

Italy’s Rai Cinema is backing a drama by the director wanted in the United States for the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl
Roman Polanski has announced his first film to be put into production since the director was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Ampas) in 2018.
According to Variety, Polanski has secured backing from Italian media giant Rai Cinema for The Palace, a drama Polanski has co-written with fellow Polish film-maker Jerzy Skolimowski. Rai Cinema’s CEO Paolo Del Brocco said that The Palace is set on New Year’s Eve in 1999, and is about “a big hotel immersed in the Swiss Alps where the lives of the guests and those who work for them intersect”.

Jessica Beshir’s mesmeric Sundance hit “Faya Dayi” won big at Visions du Réel on Saturday, scooping both its top Grand Jury Prize as well as a Fipresci International Critics Award.
The prize – and Beshir’s surprised but ecstatic acceptance via Zoom from New York – brought to a climax a festival which, as director Emile Bujes pointed out at the closing ceremony, was one of the first to go completely online in 2020. This year, she noted, it became one of the first to open up an on-site component after third-wave Covid-19 launching second-half-of-the festival cinema screenings and welcoming 200 industry members. The initiative came after the Swiss government announced, one day before the festival began, that theaters could re-open in Switzerland.
Tomasz Wolski’s “1970” and Ahmet Necdet Cupur’s “Les Enfants terribles” shared the prestige Swiss doc fest’s Special Jury Prize, an effective runner’s up plaudit.
