The Thin Blue Line actor David Haig is adapting his World War II thriller play Pressure into a film. Here are the details.
While David Haig is perhaps best known for his role as Inspector Grimm in Ben Elton’s The Thin Blue Line, he also an acclaimed dramatic actor, delivering the astonishingly dark Playing Sandwiches monologue in Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads series.
Haig is also a prolific playwright, however. He penned the 2004 play My Boy Jack, about Rudyard Kipling’s son fighting in the first World War. He adapted into a television film in 2007, in which he also starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Kim Cattrall.
Pressure premiered in 2018. Haig wrote and also starred in the production, which chronicled the story of the decision makers behind the D-Day landings, the tiny window of opportunity they were afforded in choosing between June 5th or June 6th 1944 and the pressure cooker environment in which they worked,...

Daniel Radcliffe began acting when he was 6 years old, playing a monkey in a school play. By the time he was 12, he was an international movie star, taking on the role of Harry Potter in a series of film adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s books. He went on to portray everything from a World War I soldier killed in battle to a talking corpse with digestive issues to a political prisoner. Just take a look at his impressive body of work.

Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk has finalized a deal with 20th Century Fox to direct Narco Sub, with Liam Neeson being eyed to star. The project has been in development for several years, with filmmakers such as Tony Scott, Doug Liman and Antoine Fuqua attached to direct at one point. Now that the studio has a director in place, they will focus on securing a deal with Liam Neeson.
The story follows an Ecuadorian drug lord who forces a disgraced Naval officer (Liam Neeson) to navigate a Narco Sub filled with cocaine past the Coast Guard. These much smaller submersible crafts are typically used by drug cartels to ship their illegal drugs between Colombia and Mexico. The ships are so small they are unable to be detected by radar.
David Guggenheim (Safe House) wrote the screenplay, with Ridley Scott producing for Scott Free Films and Simon Kinberg producing through his Genre Films company.

Daniel Radcliffe has been acting since the age of 9, when he played the young David Copperfield opposite Maggie Smith in the BBC’s 1999 adaptation of the classic Dickens story. But it was in 2001, when Radcliffe was cast as the titular boy wizard of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone that he became an internationally recognised movie star. Eight feature films, adapted from the seven novels by Jk Rowling, were to follow, grossing more than $7bn at the global box office.
With roles in December Boys and My Boy Jack, Radcliffe proved he was no one-trick pony. But it was his 2007 turn on stage – in Thea Sharrock’s West End revival of Peter Shaffer’s play Equus – that established Radcliffe as a serious young actor. Daniel Radcliffe is completely normal. This is always worth pointing out, because the young British actor has made it through his teenage years with barely a bump, an achievement indeed considering his turn at the centre of the world's biggest film franchise has meant that everything has been far from normal around him.
How has he done it? Well, to mark the arrival of the entire Potter franchise to the Sky Movies service, Daniel Radcliffe has sat down for a brand new, in-depth one hour interview in which he discusses his experiences of growing up on set, child stardom, handling the hype and media attention that came with the phenomenon, as well as life after Potter.

Happy 23rd birthday to the Harry Potter superstar whose constant gay advocacy is even sweeter because he clearly thinks for himself. Daniel Radcliffe, in my opinion, is one of the gay community's coolest celebrity allies, and there are infinite reasons to dig his intelligent, articulate approach to stardom and promoting equality. We number just 23 of them here. (I went light on the Potter references because I think we all understand what tremendous blockbusters they are.)
1. Equus, the great leap (gallop?) forward
We all remember when Daniel Radcliffe became a man -- a man who really loves horses. In 2007, he starred in a West End revival of Peter Shaffer's play, and in 2008 that production came to Broadway. Controversial role? Yes. But he showed a true seriousness of purpose, and that makes him an interesting actor outside the Harry Potter realm.
2. His response to gay rumors

He may have missed out on helming the "Thor" sequel, but that hasn't stopped demand for the skill of Brian Kirk who has entered talks to direct the long-gestating adaptation of "The Osterman Weekend" at Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment and Captivate Entertainment reports Deadline.
The second and shortest novel of 'Bourne' series author Robert Ludlum, the story has the host of an investigative news show becoming convinced by a CIA agent that the friends he has invited to a weekend getaway in the country are engaged in a Kgb conspiracy that threatens national security.
The book was adapted once before in 1983 and marked the final film of trend-setting helmer Sam Peckinpah's career. John Hurt, Craig T. Nelson, Rutger Hauer, Dennis Hopper, Meg Foster, Burt Lancaster and Chris Sarandon all starred.
Simon Kinberg and Jesse Wigutow penned the reboot which ditches the Cold War and spy elements and will switch around some of the occupations.

Daniel Radcliffe seems content with, as he puts it, the fading "hoopla" that surrounded playing Harry Potter for ten years. "If that steadily decreases for the rest of my life, I'll be kind of cool with that," Radcliffe admitted on the eve of the release "The Woman in Black," his first post-Potter film project. Considering his fame -- primarily fueled from playing Potter in eight separate films -- the 22-year-old actor is surprisingly self-aware.
Radcliffe realizes his current place in movie stardom. He knows that his "cache" (again, as he puts it) will not last forever, nor do I get the impression that he wants it to last forever. Actually, from the time we spent together, I did get a vibe from Radcliffe that almost cried, "the sooner, the better." Put it this way: when searching for an apt metaphor to describe fame and fortune, Radcliffe compared it to regurgitated steak.

Kirk! If you can hear me, open the Bridge! Variety is reporting that Marvel has found a director for Thor 2, to follow-up Joss Whedon's The Avengers and Shane Black's Iron Man 3. His name is Brian Kirk, an Irish director mostly of lots of TV work, including 3 episodes of HBO's "Game of Thrones" and various episodes of "Boardwalk Empire", "Luther", "Dexter", "Father & Son" and the UK TV movie My Boy Jack. Kirk "rose to the top of the list of directors vying for the job after he showed his abilities to juggle large ensembles" and complex storylines while "also grounding the fantasy genre" in Thrones. Sounds like he'll be a good choice. For those wondering, Kenneth Branagh was given the option to return for the sequel, but decided not to, as we've heard him mention before (see my interview). Brian Kirk is currently "in early negotiations", as...

With the final Potter film mere weeks away, new posters released every day and the recent news that the red carpet at the Premiere is going to take up half of London, it’s easy to forget Daniel Radcliffe isn’t just Harry Potter.
In his other projects since Potter he’s shied away from the spotlight focusing on independent films such as December Boys and My Boy Jack and appearances in theatre productions such as Equus and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The upcoming film The Women in Black is probably the closest Radcliffe has come to returning to the spotlight since his departure from Potter starring as the lead in the critically acclaimed play adapted to screen by Jane Goldman for Hammer Films.

Hill’s chilling novel has been adapted into a very successful play which has been running in London since its 1989 debut and deals with a young solicitor travelling to a coastal town, there to encounter and uncover the mystery of the titular darkly dressed dame. Although Daniel Radcliffe was snubbed two years ago by the BAFTA TV Awards -- the British equivalent of the Emmy Awards -- for his performance in the telefilm "My Boy Jack," six of his older "Harry Potter" co-stars are contending in top races at this year's kudos. Leading that list is Julie Walters, the on-screen mother of Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), who competes with herself in the best actress race. All four of the nominated performances are for real-life roles -- Walters as politico Mo Mowlam in "Mo" and assisted suicide advocate Anne Turner in "A Short Stay in Switzerland"; Helena Boham Carter -- the dastardly Bellatrix LeStrange in "Harry Potter" -- as beloved children's...

Daniel Radcliffe has found his first post-"Harry Potter" role. He is to star next year in a Broadway revival of the Tony-winning tuner "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Radcliffe will play the plum part of J. Pierpont Finch, a window cleaner who rises to the top of a huge company while, of course, wooing and winning a girl along the way.
"How to Succeed" is one of only eight tuners to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for drama. The original production won the top Tony for best musical in 1962 as well as six more, including awards for lead Robert Morse and supporting player Charles Nelson Reilly. And the 1995 rialto revival of "How to Succeed" won Matthew Broderick the lead actor Tony. Loads of talent are involved in this second revival. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("Chicago") lead the producing team while Tony Award winner Rob Ashford...

The Washington, D.C. Area Film Critics Association (Wafca) today announced their 2009 winners, awarding Best Film to Up in the Air. Additionally, awards were given to Broadway star Carey Mulligan, most recently of The Seagull, for her work in the film "An Education," as well as the upcoming film of Maury Yeston's "Nine."
Relative newcomer Carey Mulligan took home the Best Actress award for An Education, while what many considered the only locks of the season - the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories - went to Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) and Mo'Nique (Precious), respectively. Precious also walked away with the Best Breakthrough Performance for first-time actress Gabourey Sidibe.
"We are thrilled with these results," said Tim Gordon, president of Wafca. "As with every year, there were consensus favorites as well as surprises that both stunned and delighted us. In a year full of as many great films as this one,...

When I first visited Irish filmmaker Liam O Mochain ten years ago on the set of his debut feature, The Book That Wrote Itself, one of the first things I noticed was that he had managed to pull together production elements that would have been difficult for a film with ten times the budget. On the first day, he had managed to get the City of Dublin to give him a double-decker bus, complete with driver, to shoot on throughout the city. I, and a few dozen other tourists, had just paid the equivalent of $20 each for a tour on a similar bus, just the day before. Later in the production, he visited the Venice Film Festival with a small crew, attended a press conference, and asked a variety of celebrity luminaries questions, in character as Vincent,...

19 year-old Daniel Radcliffe wants the world to know he's a grown-up now. It's tough to walk past a magazine stand on the eve of the release of the sixth Harry Potter film without seeing him trying to look as different as possible from the wide-eyed boy wizard who brought him fame. It's no surprise, as with only two of the blockbusting fantasy films left to release, he's more determined than ever to keep on acting when they finally call "cut" at Leavesden Studios. His turns on stage with Equus and TV with My Boy Jack send the message that...

Returning favorites seem all the rage in the TV categories for this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards. 30 Rock is the comedy front-runner, and Mad Men might coast on its wins at the Emmys and Golden Globes to take home SAG statues for its second season. But don't count out the newcomers. Back Stage spoke with TV critics Robert Bianco of USA Today, Ray Richmond of The Hollywood Reporter, and Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly to get their takes on the upcoming nominations. Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series "This is a fairly thin category," Richmond says, "because comedies are not in a growth spurt right now." So we'll probably see return visits from previous nominees. Last year's winner, Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock, is the clear favorite among the critics, especially after the show's triumph at the Emmys. Earlier nominees Steve Carell of The Office, Charlie Sheen...
