Colors of Blindness - Back Birds

It is a very touching story of a Tamil Migrant Murughan (Mammothy) coming to makes a living in a small Kerala town by ironing clothes on the road side. He has three children, one son and two girls from whom one is blind.

The movie is about his struggles to live an honest life and be a role model of goodness to his children.

He lives in a slum where he meets a neighbor lady (Actress Padma Priya) who also begs and does odd road side jobs. She takes care of his children.

Murughan goes to iron clothes at the house of a rich lady (Actress Meena) who is ailing and is about to die.

Both of them bond with each other because of the blind-girl as their link. Meena feels for the struggle of a single father raising three kids on his own in this cruel city.

She wants to donate her eyes to the blind girl when she dies but her husband is against it and does not like her special emotional bond with ironing man Mammoothy. It is a bond of PURE TRUE AGAPE LOVE. When they see each other in the eyes they know there is a special connection between two human beings

There are so many moments in the movie that will make us cry - not because it shows the tragic lives of poor - but because it shows how resilient they are to show kindness, love, compassion and humanity even in trying times of struggle.

BEAUTIFUL movie - I cried many times during the movie.

The direction by Director Kamal is fabulous. To come out with such story idea and weave a movie around it is brilliant

Meena dies but her family is not able to fulfill her wish to donated her eyes to the young blind girl.

In the end Mommothy goes back to the village after that along with his 3 kids and that Padma Priya.

Director Kamal is famous for making social based family dramas in Malayalam cinema. The setting and feel of the movie including the dress and make-up and looks are so real. All the characters are well crafted and everyone have acted so well.

The music by Mohan Sitara is very good and songs are beautiful.

The movie won The National award for the Best Family Movie for 2006, and several state and filmfare awards. Mammoothy, Padma Priya and the blind girl too won awards for best acting.

A wholesome humane drama that everyone should watch.

I would go with 7.6 out of 10 for this gem.
