As January wraps up, Hulu is keeping the momentum going with an impressive lineup of new titles next month. Whether you’re into movies, TV shows, or both, there’s plenty to keep you entertained throughout February.

Hulu is starting strong with over 60 new titles arriving on February 1 alone. Some standout additions include Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2, as well as all four seasons of the classic ’90s drama New York Undercover.

Reality TV fans will also have something to look forward to with the season six premiere of The Kardashians.

But as exciting as the new arrivals are, there’s always the bittersweet reality that some beloved titles are leaving. In February, Hulu will only be removing movies, so TV lovers can breathe easy. However, the list of departing films includes some good titles, like Titane (2021) and Spencer (2021), which earned Kristen Stewart an Oscar nomination.

“West Side Story” actor Ansel Elgort is set to star in “Faster Than Horses,” a survival thriller directed by Emmy nominee James Erskine (“Shooting for Socrates “) and produced by survival expert Bear Grylls.

Inspired by a true story and based on an article by Hampton Sides, “Faster Than Horses” follows a former Olympic runner who attempts a return to glory in the world’s toughest footrace, the Marathon des Sables, a series of back-to-back marathons across the Sahara Desert. But when a devastating sandstorm engulfs the race, he finds himself lost in the Sahara Desert, locked in a 10-day battle not for victory, but for survival.

The film is currently in pre-production and will be unveiled to international distributors at the AFM which kicks on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas. Upgrade will handle international sales, with CAA Media Finance repping North American rights.

In the modern world, the top reality shows can be affected by how media has changed over the last several years. “The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins has launched 5&2 Studios and has unveiled a slate of projects in the works — including an animated series, an unscripted show with Bear Grylls and a multi-season take on the story of Moses.

According to 5&2 Studios’ mission statement, the indie studio plans to “produce Bible-inspired stories through uniquely human and authentic storytelling and audience engagement.” Jenkins was set to announce the new studio and his upcoming programming plans — as well as the roll out of the final two seasons of “The Chosen” — during this weekend’s “ChosenCon” in Orlando, Fla. That two-day gathering of fans features cast members and producers behind the series, which began as a crowdfunded indie short in 2017 but since has become a global smash.

Earlier this year, an arbitrator ended the relationship between Jenkins’ The Chosen LLC and former partner Angel Studios, giving Jenkins oversight of “The Chosen” as he now builds out 5&2 Studios.

Hulu has planned to churn out some amazing content in August. From the premiere of highly awaited original shows to the streaming release of blockbuster films, the streaming platform has a lot to offer.

For starters, we are getting the fourth season of the hit mystery comedy-drama, Only Murders in the Building. But that’s not all! Here are all the shows and films being added on Hulu in August 2024:

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.

The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.

Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Freely, the new free streaming service backed by Britain’s public service broadcasters (PSBs) that delivers live TV over broadband, has launched. The initiative is from Everyone TV, the organization which runs free TV in the U.K. and is jointly owned by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Paramount Global’s Channel 5. Announced last year, the service allows viewers to browse and watch live TV channels together with on-demand content streamed to their smart TV via the internet. Freely will be built-in to the next generation of smart TVs and features a lineup of public service broadcaster content and other free-to-air channels.

Content from Stv and S4C, free-to-air public service broadcasters for Scotland and Wales respectively, is also available on Freely. Hisense, previously announced as the first Freely smart TV partner, brings Freely TVs to market today. TiVo will be offering Freely as part of its TiVo Os platform.

It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.

The industry is as globalized as it’s ever been, but breakout hits are appearing in pockets of the world all the time and it can be hard to keep track… So, we’re going to do the hard work for you.

This week we head to the Wild West of the German online content creator community, where a group of YouTubers have forged an unexpected digital hit in a space usually reserved for traditional TV channels: adventure reality. 7 Vs Wild takes the peril and jeopardy of Alone or Naked & Afraid and gives it a YouTube twist to build communities and followers around its episodes. Amazon Freevee recently picked up rights to launch an original third season, proving digital and linear can work harmoniously together.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.

The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.

That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. The acclaimed original in question in The Great season 3. Premiering on May 12, this historical black comedy with continue the story of Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) and her pal Peter III (Nicholas Hoult). The other Hulu original series of note this month is The Clearing on May 24. Based on the best-selling crime novel In the Clearing this story will follow a story inspired by the real life events behind Australian cult “The Family.”

For its other TV options in May, Hulu is turning to its cable partner FX. Class of ’09, an FBI thriller starring Kate Mara and Brian Tyree Henry, premieres on May 10. That will be followed by The Secrets of Hillsong, a docuseries investigating the controversial church on May 20.

“The Great” returns to Hulu for Season 3 on May 12. Elle Fanning portrays Catherine the Great, desperate to turn Russia into an enlightened nation, while Nicholas Hoult plays Peter III, her libertine husband. Despite marital problems, including Catherine’s attempt to murder him, Peter now claims to be in love with his wife. The show, loosely based on history, takes a snarky, sexy, and irreverent ride through 18th-century Russia. Catherine was the longest-running female ruler in the nation’s history.

Exclusive: Bear Grylls has unveiled an original content slate for Outdoors.com, the adventure site and streaming platform he recently acquired alongside Nashville-based digital investor Savage Ventures.

The slate will be part of a relaunch of Outdoors.com aimed at making the platform “the home of adventure,” with Grylls also contributing content while overseeing its general direction. You can read a full Q&a with him below.

While we love a good fictional survival movie or better yet, one based on a true story, television survival series should not be counted out. Lumped into the reality TV category, viewers sometimes have a hard time believing what is real, fake, or scripted. While Bear Grylls rose to popularity for his “survival” series, years after Man vs. Wild stopped airing, production and Grylls admitted it was fake and in many instances, Grylls stayed inside hotels and resorts during the overnights.

Netflix is getting into the video game world. On Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported that the streaming giant was expanding into video games within the next year following the hiring of Mike Verdu, a former Facebook and Electronic Arts executive, as its new vice president of game development. A Netflix spokesperson has since confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.

Per Bloomberg, Verdu will report to Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters. He was previously Facebook's vice president in charge of working with developers to bring video games to Oculus virtual reality headsets. He was also the SVP of mobile for Electronic Arts where he helped develop mobile games such as Plants vs. Zombies 2, The Sims Freeplay, and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.

In terms of popularity, reality shows have surpassed many other kinds of programs in recent decades. The genre really took off in the late 1990s and early 2000s on networks like MTV with shows like The Real World, Survivor, Big Brother, America's Next Top Model, and Man Vs. Wild. Cooking and quiz competition shows such as Jeopardy! and Hell's Kitchen were also popular among audiences, as they allowed for a more interactive, engaging viewing experience by inviting viewers to root for specific contestants and even vote or play along.

Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth visited Karnataka's Bandipur Tiger Reserve to shoot an episode for Discovery channel's popular programme 'Man vs Wild' with host Bear Grylls, an official said on Tuesday.

"We gave permission for 6-8 hours to Discovery Channel to shoot in Bandipur Tiger Reserve," T. Balachandra, the reserve's director and conservator of forests, told Ians.

He said the one-day shoot began at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and ended by 4 p.m.

"They paid as per the norms. Per day they have to pay documentary fee, vehicle fee and others. For four days, they paid Rs 10 lakh," Balachandra said.

Balachandra said Rajinikanth spent five hours in the forest and will not return as his shoot was only for one day.

Zac Efron is ready to tap into his hunter-gatherer DNA for a new adventure series for Quibi, the upcoming mobile-only streaming service from Jeffrey Katzenberg, the company shared on Wednesday morning.

The show, dubbed “Killing Zac Efron,” will place the “Greatest Showman” actor on an empty and dangerous island for three weeks. Looking to add his name to the list of exploration greats, Efron will have nothing but “basic gear, a guide partner and a will to survive” to help get him through his journey through the jungle, according to Quibi’s announcement.

Bear Grylls, the face of survival and outdoor adventure television, and his longtime producing partner, Delbert Shoopman, have teamed with leading global production and distribution powerhouse Banijay Group to launch production company The Natural Studios, which will produce both non-scripted and scripted adventure content.

The company, with Grylls and Shoopman as co-CEOs, is funded by Banijay, which serves as its production and distribution partner. Grylls and Shoopman will maintain full strategic control, Banijay said. The outfit will “develop original IP with mass global appeal and nurture the next generation of adrenaline-fueled TV stars worldwide,” according to a statement.

Grylls said: “At its heart this is about building the ultimate home of adventure programming worldwide. The Natural Studios will be providing a home for the best adventure talent to help them create shows with us that inspire and move people to go for it in their lives and to never give up.
