There are many things that make Survivor a must-watch for the audience. The show premiered all the way back in 2000, and now, more than two decades later, it still continues to be the gold standard in reality television. Along with the thrill of the show, Jeff Probst has also become almost synonymous with it due to his fantastic hosting skills. However, in the world of reality television, Survivor is not the only show captivating viewers.

Survival anime often push characters to their limits, but Are You Lost? took it to an entirely new level when Homare and Shion resorted to an enema technique straight out of Bear Grylls’ Man vs. Wild. While anime is known for exaggerated and sometimes absurd survival scenarios, this particular scene left audiences stunned with many wondering “Who wrote this scene?”

The technique, which was inspired by a real-life example and performed by Bear Grylls on his show, involves overcoming the gag reflex to hydrate through an enema, an extreme but efficient survival strategy. While Are You Lost? is a lighthearted survival anime, this particular moment blurred the line between realism and absurdity.

As January wraps up, Hulu is keeping the momentum going with an impressive lineup of new titles next month. Whether you’re into movies, TV shows, or both, there’s plenty to keep you entertained throughout February.
Hulu is starting strong with over 60 new titles arriving on February 1 alone. Some standout additions include Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2, as well as all four seasons of the classic ’90s drama New York Undercover.
Reality TV fans will also have something to look forward to with the season six premiere of The Kardashians.
But as exciting as the new arrivals are, there’s always the bittersweet reality that some beloved titles are leaving. In February, Hulu will only be removing movies, so TV lovers can breathe easy. However, the list of departing films includes some good titles, like Titane (2021) and Spencer (2021), which earned Kristen Stewart an Oscar nomination.

The film is currently in pre-production and will be unveiled to international distributors at the AFM which kicks on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas. Upgrade will handle international sales, with CAA Media Finance repping North American rights.

In the modern world, the top reality shows can be affected by how media has changed over the last several years. For example, Jeff Probst revealed how the official Survivor podcast changed the show and Nicole Byer used social media to call out Netflix for how the producers handled issues on Nailed It! On top of that, reality show fans also use social media to speak out about things like the biggest problem with The Traitors and how Phaedra Parks treated Dan Gheesling.
Another way that social media is affecting reality TV is several celebrities who became famous online are getting their own shows. Following in the footsteps of the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, The Montana Boyz are making the leap from TikTok to their own reality show.

“The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins has launched 5&2 Studios and has unveiled a slate of projects in the works — including an animated series, an unscripted show with Bear Grylls and a multi-season take on the story of Moses.
According to 5&2 Studios’ mission statement, the indie studio plans to “produce Bible-inspired stories through uniquely human and authentic storytelling and audience engagement.” Jenkins was set to announce the new studio and his upcoming programming plans — as well as the roll out of the final two seasons of “The Chosen” — during this weekend’s “ChosenCon” in Orlando, Fla. That two-day gathering of fans features cast members and producers behind the series, which began as a crowdfunded indie short in 2017 but since has become a global smash.
Earlier this year, an arbitrator ended the relationship between Jenkins’ The Chosen LLC and former partner Angel Studios, giving Jenkins oversight of “The Chosen” as he now builds out 5&2 Studios.

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. Surviving in the wilderness is a captivating theme in both mainstream media and reality TV shows like Survivor and The Revenant. Survival series connect viewers with nature through real people facing basic needs and challenges, offering a raw and engaging experience. Best survival shows like Survivor, Naked and Afraid, and Man vs. Wild provide thrilling entertainment and valuable survival insights.
While many wouldn't be able to survive in the wilderness if stranded, it doesn't stop audiences from watching other people try to do it — here are the best survival shows, ranked from worst to best. The survival narrative is also prevalent in mainstream television and movies, such as the hit reality TV show Survivor. Harrowing tales of survival in films like The Revenant, The Martian, and 127 Hours almost instantly strike a chord with viewers. But when the same narrative is applied to reality TV, it morphs into something fascinating.

TV personality Bear Grylls shared a heartfelt family photograph on Instagram to commemorate son Marmaduke‘s 18th birthday. The image features Grylls, Marmaduke, and his wife, Shara Cannings Knight, and it has sparked surprise across the internet due to Marmaduke’s enormous height.
On April 6, Grylls posted two family photos with the caption, “18 today! We love you so much, Marmaduke… keep shining bright!”
While numerous well-wishers extended birthday greetings, the attention focused mainly on Marmaduke’s towering stature. One comment humorously quipped, “Bear Junior is turning out to be a Grizzly.” Another playful remark read, “You must look up to him a lot,” while a third individual shared, “Bear Grylls looks like he is the son.”
Born on June 7, 1974, Edward Michael “Bear” Grylls, a former Sas trooper, has honed his survival expert, adventurer and television presenter skills. Grylls initially captured the public’s attention when he set multiple world records in unforgiving environments.

Mark Wahlberg is back with “Arthur the King.” And the typical Wahlberg experience has been suitably augmented by a very sweet ingredient: the addition of an adorable dog (the titular Arthur). Put your paws together everyone.
Based on the best-selling memoir “Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home” by Mikael Lindnord, it details a group of mountain climbers who, on a competition, meet the little dog, who ends up being a key member of the team. Wahlberg plays a character based on Lindnord, the elite Swedish athlete who gave meatballs to a starving stray dog that ended up changing his life. (Lindnord ended up writing another book about how rescue dogs save our lives.)
Action, adventure, a very cute dog. What more could you want? Exactly. Here’s how to watch “Arthur the King” right now and where to expect it on streaming.

It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.
The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.
That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

Spencer Matthews has opened up about his expedition to find his brother, Michael Matthews, who died after summiting Mount Everest in 1999 aged just 22.
The former Made In Chelsea star turned broadcaster, 34, stars in Disney Plus’s one-off documentary, Finding Michael, which tells the story of his brother’s disappearance and his family’s journey to recover Michael’s body 20 years later.
Michael Matthews was the youngest Briton to summit Everest, but just three hours after he reached the peak, he went missing. His brother, Spencer, who was aged 10 when Michael went missing and died, had always struggled to accept his death, in part because his family did not have a body to mourn.
Then, in 2017, Spencer’s family was sent a picture by a climber that showed what appeared to be a dead body buried in the snow, in a similar location on the mountain to where Michael went missing.

While we love a good fictional survival movie or better yet, one based on a true story, television survival series should not be counted out. Lumped into the reality TV category, viewers sometimes have a hard time believing what is real, fake, or scripted. While Bear Grylls rose to popularity for his “survival” series, years after Man vs. Wild stopped airing, production and Grylls admitted it was fake and in many instances, Grylls stayed inside hotels and resorts during the overnights.

Prince George can officially be described as a lionhearted little one. British adventurer and TV star Bear Grylls recalled the moment the oldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton popped a live ant right in his mouth back in August 2019. The courageous moment happened during the King's Cup Regatta (the inaugural sailing event hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), when the then 6-year-old's grandmother, Carole Middleton, invited the Man vs. Wild star over to meet the prince, who is a huge fan. And although Bear went on to explain that he didn't "really mean" to encourage George to eat an ant that day, the opportunity present itself and well—he went...

Netflix is getting into the video game world. On Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported that the streaming giant was expanding into video games within the next year following the hiring of Mike Verdu, a former Facebook and Electronic Arts executive, as its new vice president of game development. A Netflix spokesperson has since confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.
Per Bloomberg, Verdu will report to Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters. He was previously Facebook's vice president in charge of working with developers to bring video games to Oculus virtual reality headsets. He was also the SVP of mobile for Electronic Arts where he helped develop mobile games such as Plants vs. Zombies 2, The Sims Freeplay, and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.

In terms of popularity, reality shows have surpassed many other kinds of programs in recent decades. The genre really took off in the late 1990s and early 2000s on networks like MTV with shows like The Real World, Survivor, Big Brother, America's Next Top Model, and Man Vs. Wild. Cooking and quiz competition shows such as Jeopardy! and Hell's Kitchen were also popular among audiences, as they allowed for a more interactive, engaging viewing experience by inviting viewers to root for specific contestants and even vote or play along.

Spanning several seasons and spin-offs, Survivor has had a cult following of its own. Even though it follows a scripted approach at times (typical of many a reality show). The American variant of Survivor is itself inspired by the Swedish classic series Expedition Robinson. One thing that's clear is that the survival genre has a universal likability, as is evident from the franchise spawning shows all over the world in countries including Austria, Brazil, Turkey, South Africa, and so on.
