Whenever a book becomes popular and a bestseller, it's only a matter of time before it becomes a movie or TV show. And when these books reach a certain level of popularity or relevance, they can receive multiple adaptations. Books like Pride and Prejudice, Stephen King's It or Carrie, or Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express are now classic books that have received multiple movie or TV show adaptations. But while these popular books have taken to the screen more than once, they aren't close to the many adaptations some of the most adapted books of all time have.
Everyone knows the story of Dracula, Frankenstein or Tarzan, but probably not everyone knows just how many adaptations these books have. Some of the most adapted books have over 100 adaptations between movies, TV and theater productions. One of these books has more than 500 different adaptations. Other books have become such...

Grief comes in many forms; sometimes, it can drive survivors apart instead of bringing them together. In Michael Shannon‘s directorial debut, Eric Larue, Judy Greer, and Alexander Skarsgård experience firsthand the damage loss can inflict on two people struggling to survive an overwhelming tragedy. Today, Magnolia Pictures debuted a trailer and poster for Eric Larue, highlighting the cast’s sturring performances and Shannon’s talent behind the camera.
It was written by Brett Neveu and based on his 2002 play, which used the same name. Eric Larue follows two parents who, in the aftermath of a shocking crime at the hands of their son, seek solace in rival religious congregations. The film world premiered at the Tribeca Festival and also stars Alexander Skarsgård, Alison Pill, Tracy Letts, Paul Sparks, and Annie Parisse. Nicolas Cage played Ghost Rider in two disappointing Sony Pictures movies. When the sequel bombed, the rights to the character reverted to Marvel Studios and that's where he's remained ever since.
As we write this, rumours are swirling about the Spirit of Vengeance appearing in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Spider-Man 4. There's also been chatter of a solo movie or TV series, suggesting there are finally firm plans for the anti-hero after Robbie Reyes' brief stint in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
In this feature, we've selected six actors we think would be a good pick to bring Johnny Blaze to life on screen in the MCU. Hopefully, you'll find these names a refreshing change of pace from the usual suspects who crop up online.

As breakout TV star Ella Purnell looks to capitalize on her 2024 success, Tim Burton should consider making a sequel to the ill-fated Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. The 2016 teen fantasy film, cut from the cloth of Harry Potter and X-Men, follows the mysterious residents of the titular home, where a group of youngsters with strange superpowers come of age, develop their skills, and embrace their peculiarities while fending off a formidable foe.
Despite scoring mixed-to-positive reviews and nearly tripling its budget at the international box office, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was shuttered before receiving its planned cinematic sequel. Now that a decade has passed and Ella Purnell has become a highly sought-after Hollywood A-lister, Tim Burton Productions and 20th Century Fox should revisit the movie and make an official sequel.

The final installment in the highly successful and acclaimed Spider-Verse film has found its directors. Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson have been tapped to direct Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
In an exclusive report from Deadline, it was announced that the Sony Animation project would recruit longtime members of the Spider-Verse family to helm the last film in the trilogy jump-started by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. And though the names of the new directors may not be as big as the aforementioned Lord and Miller, the two men have worked on the franchise since its inception.
"We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles' journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting," said Persichetti and Thompson. In under a decade, Moana is already getting a live-action remake much sooner than any other Disney princess, and her sequel film, Moana 2, has hit theaters with early success. Moana 2 also joins a once-rare club as one of the Disney animated sequels to go to theaters.
While this has become more commonplace with movies like Frozen 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet, in the past, many Disney animated movie sequels would go straight to video or DVD. The quality of these films also was not always as impressive as their original movies. This was the case for the sequel to Atlantis: The Lost Empire; however, that movie -- like Moana 2 -- was not initially meant to be a film. It was meant to be a television series. However, it was made into a film almost as if this were a form of punishment, while Moana 2 builds off Moana's initial success.

Though most people are familiar with Disney's Tarzan and the 2016 film The Legend of Tarzan, the classic story has been adapted to film dozens of times. The character was conceived by writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, who published the first Tarzan novel in 1914. From there, he wrote several sequels, and it wasn't long before the first movie was made about the infant English lord raised by apes. From there, a new version of Tarzan appeared on the screen decade after decade, turning Burroughs' books into several movies.
In the classic story of Tarzan, which has been adapted in both live-action and animated films, an English lord and his wife, John and Alice Clayton, become stranded with their infant son after their shipwreck off the coast of Africa. After Alice and John die, their young son, John Clayton III, becomes abandoned. Fortunately, he is taken in by a female ape, who raises...

2016's The Legend of Tarzan was a critical and commercial failure, even though it had assembled many of the ingredients that could have made it an adventure classic. The movie, which starred Alexander Skarsgrd as Tarzan and Margot Robbie as Jane, was a retelling of the story of the iconic Edgar Rice Burroughs character. Tarzan is a multimedia icon, and his story was adapted to the screen as early as 1918 in the silent film Tarzan of the Apes, with more than four dozen adaptations to follow, including Disney's Oscar-winning 1999 animated movie Tarzan.
The 2016 title is the most recent Tarzan movie to hit the big screen, and its general reception may be one reason that the property has since gone dormant on the big screen for nearly a decade. In addition to most likely failing to turn a profit in theaters, it was excoriated by critics and met with apathy from general audiences.

After making history together with “Barbie,” Margot Robbie and Warner Bros. are at it again. The LuckyChap producer and star is set to lead frequent collaborator Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of “Wuthering Heights,” which is now officially a Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group title. IndieWire can confirm that the studio won MRC’s highly-anticipated feature after what we’re told was “a fierce bidding war.”
As previously announced, MRC is the studio financing the film, with Robbie’s LuckyChap producing. Fennell wrote and will direct and produce the feature-film adaptation based on the Emily Brontë novel. Robbie leads the feature as Cathy, who becomes intoxicated with the brooding Heathcliff. Fennell’s “Saltburn” star Jacob Elordi is playing the iconic Heathcliff.
The film is now in pre-production, with UK shoot set for 2025. Writer/director Fennell already teased the project with an Instagram post featuring the title and the tagline “Be with me always.

Ever since he appeared in the Netflix original movie "Purple Hearts" in 2022, British actor Nicholas Galitzine has become a major breakout star ... but that doesn't mean he aced all of his early auditions. In fact, he says one of those auditions was so awful that he still cringes just thinking about it.

One of the projects that helped put Alexander Skarsgrd on the map and make him who he is today just got a major streaming update. The Legend of Tarzan, the 2016 film in which Skarsgrd stars alongside Margot Robbie, Christopher Waltz, and Rory J. Saper, has officially begun streaming on Max. The film was not well received by either critics or audiences, currently sitting at a 35% score from the former and a 58% rating from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to Skarsgrd, Waltz, and Robbie, The Legend of Tarzan also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Casper Crump, and Ashley Byam. The film's poor reception didn't stop the Tarzan name from helping it generate major revenue at the box office, as it earned more than $350 million worldwide on a whopping $180 million budget.

For twenty-five years, the Disney classic Tarzan has entertained audiences both young and old. The film, based on the popular Edgar Rice Burroughs novel series, is considered to be the last film of the Disney Renaissance, a period of films that helped rejuvenate the company and reestablish it as an animation juggernaut.
The story of a man raised by apes in the late nineteenth century lent itself well to an animated feature with wild and imaginative settings and action sequences. The last real animated “jungle movie” that Disney was the 1967 film The Jungle Book. Now a new generation of creatives would have a go at the unique settings of the which African jungles and the exotic wildlife.

Editor’s note: This story was originally published on June 20, 2017, in celebration of the 42nd anniversary of the release of “Jaws.” We are re-publishing it today with some light updates to celebrate the film’s 49th anniversary.
The original trailer for Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” hardly hinted at the industry-changing blockbuster it was ultimately selling, instead playing up some serious melodrama (“it is as if God created the Devil and gave him jaws” is easily the best line of a highly quotable bit of marketing) and leaning into the best-selling bonafides of the book it was based on. The trailer boasted some of the film’s iconic shots and lines (you better believe “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” is in there), but mainly seemed interested in imparting the high stakes drama and horror of the story to audiences seeking a scary summer distraction.

1999's Tarzan earns a 10 out of 10 score from an ape expert for its depiction of a gorilla protecting a human baby from a leopard. Despite this, a primate expert concedes that an ape could not successfully raise a human. Disney's Tarzan was a major success critically and commercially.
Disney's Tarzan scores a perfect grade from a primate expert. Released in 1999 and directed by Chris Buck and Kevin Lima, Tarzan adapts a story first published in 1912 by Edgar Rice Burroughs about a man raised from a baby by apes. The animated Disney film, which features voice performances from Tony Goldwyn and Minnie Driver, earned positive reviews from critics and was a box office hit.
In a recent video for Insider, primatologist Mireya Mayor analyzes scenes from Tarzan and grades them for their accuracy.

One of the most important elements of delivering a memorable movie monster is the reveal. It’s a pivotal moment that finally sees the threat reveal itself in full to its prey, often heralding the final climactic confrontation, which can make or break a movie monster. It’s not just the creature effects and craftmanship laid bare; a monster’s reveal means the horror is no longer up to the viewer’s imagination.
When to reveal the monstrous threat is just as important as How, and few contemporary creature features have delivered a monster reveal as surprising or as cool as 2020’s Underwater.
The Setup
Director William Eubank’s aquatic creature feature, written by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) and Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan), is set around a deep water research and drilling facility, Kepler 822, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, sometime in the future.

For the first time since the show became exclusive to Peacock, The Office has made the weekly streaming rankings.
The long-running comedy series racked up 602 million minutes of viewing time for the week of Jan. 22-28, good enough for ninth place among library series. It’s the first appearance for The Office — which was a regular entrant in the early days of the Nielsen rankings — since it left Netflix for Peacock at the beginning of 2021.
At the top of the rankings for the week is Griselda, Netflix’s drama about the infamous drug queenpin starring Sofia Vergara. The series had 1.59 billion minutes of watch time over its first four days of release (it premiered Jan. 25). Reacher (741 million minutes) hung on in second place among original series a week after its second season finale on Prime Video, beating out Netflix’s docuseries American Nightmare (676 million).

The Legend of Tarzan may have been inspired by real-life individuals like William Charles Midlin who lived in isolation after a shipwreck. Using artistic liberties, the film highlights historical events such as Congo's enslavement, influenced by characters like George Washington Williams. Despite fictional elements like Tarzan's romantic interests, the movie succeeds in portraying how individuals can shape history by doing the right thing.
The legend of Tarzan has been told in various ways throughout the years, ranging from animated classics to a modern live-action film that sought to tackle Tarzan's afterlife as John Clayton. The week of Jan. 15-21 was a big one for streaming.
Seven titles — three original series, three acquired shows and one movie — each drew more than 1 billion minutes of viewing for the week, the most that have ever hit that mark in the four-year history of Nielsen’s streaming charts. The previous high was six, which has happened four times (including two weeks earlier).

Margot Robbie's success with Barbie has led to renewed interest in her older films, such as The Legend of Tarzan. Despite its initial flop at the box office, the film is now gaining popularity on Netflix thanks to Robbie's star power. While a sequel to The Legend of Tarzan is possible, Robbie's current status as a sought-after actor and producer may lead her to pursue more exciting and original projects.
The Legend of Tarzan was meant to be a bit of a prestige picture: a classic story, big-name actors, and an ample budget. But the film didn't have the legs to get it near the status its cast should have warranted. That being said, Margot Robbie may have the chance to give it another go.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith definitely didn’t surpass expectations, it mostly left us with question marks for expressions because of how lackluster the show really was. I suppose you could say there are some good parts; you’ve got beautiful sets and some fun fashion choices, but most importantly, a bunch of cameos that are meant to enhance the show considering how dull it is otherwise. Not to say that Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are incapable of holding our attention, but it’s probably a mix of the writing and the pacing of this show that had me completely bored by the end of it. And, no, even these incredible special appearances did not pique my interest in any way. However, they do add a little bit of fun, even if briefly, to the mostly tedious show. Alexander Skarsgård has more or less dominated television screens for the past decade. Between his Emmy winning villainous turn in Big Little Lies, his quietly charismatic espionage agent in Little Drummer Girl, and his scene-stealing tech giant on Succession, Skarsgård is a true chameleon that embodies the “character actor in a leading man’s body” description perfectly. On the film side, Skarsgård’s best work has tended to be in smaller, cutting edge genre projects that aren’t intended to be blockbusters. As beautifully deranged as Infinity Pool, The Northman, Hold the Dark, Mute, The Hummingbird Project, and Melancholia are, they weren’t intended to launch Skarsgård as a leading man on the level of say Robert Downey Jr. or Tom Cruise. However, Skarsgård did star in one of the strangest box office sensations in recent memory when he appeared in 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan, a film that landed...

It's a fine time to be Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie. The former is coming off starring in Brandon Cronenberg's well-received sci-fi horror movie "Infinity Pool" and reprised his role as the detestable slimeball Lukas Matsson in the final season of "Succession" to great effect. Meanwhile, Robbie anchored last year's "Barbie" -- which is now a Best Picture Oscar nominee in addition to being the top-grossing film of 2023 -- and produced Emerald Fennell's internet-breaking "Saltburn" after nearly stealing Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City" with her moving single-scene appearance. Someone should really cast those two in a movie together!
Well, what, dear reader, if I was to tell you that somebody already did?
While Robbie may have been unduly snubbed for her performance in "Barbie," she can take solace in knowing she's currently topping the charts on Netflix thanks to her and Skarsgård's 2016 vehicle "The Legend of Tarzan." I'm...

Despite his previous successes, David Yates' collaboration with Margot Robbie in The Legend of Tarzan marked his first box office bomb. The film, with its impressive cast and Tarzan's history, failed to live up to expectations both commercially and critically. However, Yates quickly redeemed himself with the success of the first Fantastic Beasts film, which overshadowed Tarzan's shortcomings.
Despite a string of successes with the Harry Potter movies, David Yates' streak was surprisingly brought to an end by his 2016 collaboration with superstar Margot Robbie, The Legend of Tarzan. Like Harry Potter, Tarzan is a franchise with an impressive legacy both on and off the big screen. However, despite Yates' prior record, the movie's impressive cast, and Tarzan's history, the 2016 installment proved both a critical and commercial disappointment.

The importance of revenue earned by studios from PVOD rentals reasserts itself with news that, as of Tuesday, all but two of the wide films released from either December 22 or December 25 will have home availability. That’s one month or less after their theatrical releases.
Top holiday grosser “Wonka” (Warner Bros.), which opened a week earlier, sleeper rom-com hit “Anyone but You” (Sony), and “The Iron Claw” remain theater-exclusive. Otherwise, the rush for home gold has taken over.
Three of these titles — “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (WB), “Migration” (Universal), and “Ferrari” (Neon) debut on Tuesday. They will join “The Color Purple” (WB) and “The Boys in the Boat” (Amazon MGM), both of which came out last week, 22 days after release.
The results for the week actually showed that four earlier films scored better overall during the week. “Purple” did best at Vudu (#4), but only #8 at Apple TV and #10 at Google Play.

George Washington Williams, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in The Legend of Tarzan, was a real-life hero who exposed the human rights abuses in the Congo Free State in the late 1800s. Williams had an extensive career as a soldier, journalist, Baptist minister, and politician before uncovering the truth about Belgium's crimes in the Congo Free State. While the movie takes creative liberties with the story, it does highlight Williams' influential role in history through his open letter exposing the atrocities in the Congo Free State.
Although The Legend of Tarzan's central storyline is obviously fantastical, there are some interesting real-life elements to the movie – especially concerning Samuel L. Jackson's character, George Washington Williams. In the film, George is an earnest investigator, sent to unearth Belgian crimes in the Congo Free State alongside Alexander Skarsgård's Tarzan. However, the real Washington Williams played a pivotal role, not just in...

Margot Robbie's performance in The Legend of Tarzan gained praise for redefining the character of Jane, despite the film receiving a dismal critical reaction. The movie has experienced a surge of interest after being added to Netflix, quickly climbing to the number one spot on the platform's Top 10 movies list in the U.S. Robbie's current success and ability to draw in an audience may lead to future projects, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot, finally moving forward.
Margot Robbie never fails to capture an audience, and her recent success as Barbie has proven that. Coming off the back of the huge box office and critical acclaim of the Greta Gerwig movie, one of Robbie’s lesser known movies has seen a surge of interest following its addition to Netflix.

Despite Margot Robbie's successful career, "The Legend of Tarzan" is one of her highest-earning films, surpassing many of her notable projects. "Barbie" became Robbie's most profitable movie, grossing an astonishing $1.44 billion worldwide and becoming a cultural phenomenon. While Robbie may have the potential to break her own box office record, "Barbie" will likely remain at the top of her biggest movies list.
Despite Margot Robbie's ongoing lucrative success, The Legend of Tarzan still holds a surprising box office record among the films in her acting catalog. Robbie became somewhat of a box office queen for her starring role as the iconic Mattel doll in Greta Gerwig's live-action fantasy comedy Barbie. The Barbie movie not only developed into an instant cultural phenomenon, reinvigorating the passion for the already illustrious Barbie brand, but it drew droves of supporters into theaters and became the highest-grossing movie in 2023.
