With Season 2 coming sometime this year, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has teased an upcoming episode based around slashers.
Per Variety, Season 2 of the Addams Family series, centering around the eponymous Wednesday Addams, will have a "whole episode based off of slashers," says Ortega. The actress further promises fans that Wednesday Season 2 will be full of horror references and more ambitious than the first season. Ortega hinted that the first half of the upcoming season drew inspiration from films like Carrie, Prom Night, and Beetlejuice, which, coincidentally, had a recent legacy sequel starring Ortega. Like the first, this upcoming season will again see Tim Burton as executive producer and director for the season's first half.
Wednesday Season 2 will also be more visually impressive. Ortega states, "Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we've ever had." She also stated, "I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust,...

When a horror movie villain is good, they can make even the worst movies watchable if not enjoyable. When they're great, they can become some of the biggest entertainment icons in film history. But when they're bad? Oh, bother...
From cliched ghost children to cheap cash-grab-creatures using intellectual property in the public domain, the last few decades have introduced some truly horrific (in the bad way) additions to the genre that prove not every ghoul is cut out for the silver scream. We braved popular blockbusters, maligned remakes, and indie cult classics, scrutinizing the headlining monsters and murderers of each to assess their originality, design, and how they support their respective stories overall. We found a few truly terrible films were nearly rescued by an antagonist that met these standards with flying colors (our compliments to young Brahms).
On the other hand, when they failed to do so, the film couldn't be totally saved,...

Plot: After the death of her mother, Quinn (Katie Douglas) relocates to a small town called Kettle Springs with her father, who’s going to become the town’s new doctor. Once there, she becomes friends with a group of teens who like to film YouTube videos featuring a serial-killing clown called “Frendo.” However, they soon realize that Frendo is a whole lot more real than they think he is.
Review: Clown in a Cornfield is based on a well-received series of young adult novels by Adam Cesare. Having not read any of the books, I went into this adaptation relatively fresh, not knowing exactly what to expect. My interest was mainly piqued thanks to the fact that it’s directed by Tucker & Dale vs Evil’s Eli Craig, having been a big fan of that horror comedy gem.

To quote the Smiths, fame fame fatale fame, it can play hideous tricks on the brain. That’s what’s happening in the album-opening title track from People Watching, the third LP by U.K. pop-rock star Sam Fender. “I people watch on the way back home/Envious of the glimmer of hope/Gives me a break from feeling alone,” he sings over the kind of hungry-hearted neo-Springsteen rock that is his sonic safety zone, before clarifying further, “I used to feel so invincible/I used to feel there was a world worth dreaming of.

It’s been 40 years since Jamie Lee Curtis got her hips busy in the jazzercise scene from the 1985 film Perfect, and now, with the help of Jimmy Fallon, the actor has recreated the iconic moment.
Sitting down opposite Fallon on the Tonight Show stage, Curtis began the segment by recalling some films she’s danced in, like Prom Night and True Lies. Fallon then mentioned the leotard-clad segment from Perfect, showing a clip of the original with Curtis and her co-star, John Travolta, gyrating to the beat of Jermaine Jackson and Whitney Houston’s “Shock Me.”
“That’s a lot of thrusting!” Fallon said of the clip, fanning himself. He then joked that it went on for “five minutes,” to which a laughing Curtis replied, “No, no, that scene went on for, like, seven minutes.”
The two then introduced their skit — calling it “never-before-seen” footage — recreating the moment. Curtis, donned...

Jamie Lee Curtis has revisted her aerobics routine from the 1985 film Perfect. The iconic movie moment saw her play Jessie, a fitness instructor who becomes involved with Los Angeles reporter Adam, portrayed by John Travolta, when he sets out to write a story about gym culture. The movie, written and directed by James Bridges, became infamous for its high-energy aerobics scenes, which captured the fitness craze of the '80s.
Curtis appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to recreate her character's iconic aerobics scene, complete with exaggerated movements. Her routine took on a new humorous perspective with the added bonus of comedic gags, such as a pizza delivery, a surgery, and a champagne tower pour. Fallon took Travolta's place in this revived take, adding to the silliness of the parody. Check out the video below:

Jamie Lee Curtis will forever be one of horror's most beloved scream queens. She's the ultimate final girl, thanks mostly to her over 45-year run as Laurie Strode in the Halloween films. However, aside from battling Michael Myers, she spent the early '80s starring in a long series of now horror classics. She reteamed with John Carpenter for The Fog in 1980. The same year, she headlined Terror Train, and in 1982, starred in the underrated Road Games. Amidst these releases was another slasher so influential that Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) couldn't help but give it a shout-out in Scream as the slasher everyone must watch to understand the genre. Prom Night might not be on the level of Halloween, but it's a better-than-average representation of the subgenre. More interesting, it has the most gut-wrenching finale. While the likes of Michael Myers and Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees are to be feared,...

JoBlo.com recently launched a new weekly documentary series called 80s Horror Memories, where each year of the 1980s has five episodes dedicated to it. Looking back at 1980, we discussed Maniac, Dressed to Kill, Alligator, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Prom Night, and The Fog. The second five episodes were a journey through 1981, covering The Funhouse, The Burning, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, The Evil Dead, The Howling, and An American Werewolf in London, as well as the careers of horror hosts Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and...

For every holiday there is a horror movie it feels like. This year made that more clear, giving us another Christmas set slasher in It's a Wonderful Knife, and what's destined to become a yearly tradition for horror fans with Eli Roth's Thanksgiving. New Year's Day has had some entries too over the decades. There's the not-so-great New Year's Evil, and smaller fare such as Bloody New Year, Steel Trap, and Midnighters. The best New Year's centered horror film, though, is one more familiar. In 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis became a scream queen thanks to Halloween. In 1980, Curtis starred in a trio of horror classics. She collaborated again with John Carpenter for The Fog and led the way in Prom Night, another influential slasher, but the best of the bunch might just be Terror Train.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

In the 2012 making-of documentary "The Nightmare Isn't Over: The Making of Halloween II," producer Irwin Yablans admits it was he who pushed John Carpenter to make "Halloween II." Carpenter, as most horror nuts might be able to tell you, wasn't really interested in making a sequel to "Halloween," feeling that the story had reached an effective conclusion. In Murray Leeder's 2013 "Halloween" entry into the Devil's Advocates essay book series, Carpenter admitted that when he sat down to write "Halloween II," he had nothing but beer and a complete lack of ideas. Carpenter admits that he only decided that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) should be the sister of the killer, Michael Myers, out of sheer desperation.
But Yablans insisted on a sequel because "Halloween" made so much money. Horror fans may know that "Halloween" was made for a tiny budget of about $300,000, but netted over $70 million at the box office.

Brittany Snow and Tyler Stanaland got married in March 2020 and filed for divorce in January 2023 due to irreconcilable differences. Tyler's involvement with another real estate agent, Kayla Cardona, while still married to Brittany, caused controversy on the show Selling The Oc. Brittany's acting career includes roles in movies such as John Tucker Must Die and the Pitch Perfect franchise, as well as TV appearances in shows like Not Dead Yet.
Tyler Stanaland is a real estate agent on Selling The Oc, and there's been a lot of talk about his ex-wife, Brittany Snow. Throughout the years there have been a few trends in the horror movie genre that focus on rebooting classics. The industry has recently developed many recreations of iconic storylines, from the reboot of John Carpenter's Halloween to the modern-age Child's Play rendition. The 2000s also had many remakes that received just as much criticism as recent reboots.
Fans of the genre are often protective of their favorite classic and therefore resistant to accepting a new version of already great movies. As remakes, most of these films didn't live up to expectations and received poor ratings. However, these horror remakes have some interesting aspects that viewers should take another look at. They may not reach the level of success as the original, but these films have some qualities worth considering.

A day after Walt Disney Studios was bustling with thousands of union members for the National Day of Solidarity, the mood Wednesday was more subdued at the Burbank lot as writers voiced their frustrations with the latest offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
“I think we’re going in the right direction, but I think that there’s still a lot of ground that needs to be covered,” Writers Guild of America board member Dailyn Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter in front of Disney on Wednesday. “I can see loopholes all over the proposal, and our membership sees that as well.”

Few American filmmakers of the last 40 years await a major rediscovery like Hal Hartley, whose traces in modern movies are either too-minor or entirely unknown. Thus it’s cause for celebration that the Criterion Channel are soon launching a major retrospective: 13 features (which constitutes all but My America) and 17 shorts, a sui generis style and persistent vision running across 30 years. Expect your Halloween party to be aswim in Henry Fool costumes.

Getting spoofed is the ultimate compliment for a movie or genre because it means it was something worth making fun of. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, parodies are an absolute love letter to the source material, especially when it comes to sci-fi films that tend to have persnickety fans.
Horror, rom-coms, and disaster films have all had send-ups, but the sci-fi ones land the best because they come from a place of deep respect. It is impossible to successfully spoof something if there is disdain for it. The best sci-fi parodies were made by fans to show appreciation for the films that make it such a special genre.

Maple Syrup Massacre is an editorial series where Joe Lipsett dissects the themes, conventions and contributions of new and classic Canadian horror films. Spoilers follow…
William Fruet is one of Canada’s most important directors. He’s renowned for not only his contributions to ‘realist social dramas’ such as 1970’s Goin’ Down The Road (one of Canada’s first English language fiction feature films) and 1972’s Wedding in White, but also for his Canuxploitation films of the 70s.
Death Weekend – or The House by the Lake as it was known in the United States – was made in 1976 in an effort to capitalize on a unique Canadian funding model at the time.
As previously explored in this editorial series, as well as my David Cronenberg podcast Sexy & Surreal, Canadian films are funded by the public via governmental organizations. In the 1970s, the government created the Canadian Film Development Council (Cfdc) in...

While the 2008 Prom Night remake wasn’t well-received upon release, the slasher movie’s filming locations involve a lot of surprising horror history. The first Prom Night was a hit when it was released in 1980. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, who was then coming off the success of Halloween, the original Prom Night was a dark whodunit with a masked killer picking off a group of teens who'd covered up a death years earlier. The 2008 version dropped this mystery element in favor of a more straightforward slasher story where an obsessed teacher murdered the family of one of his students. Three years later, he escapes and attacks her prom.
While Prom Night was a box office success, the sequel Prom Night 2 hasn't happened. This isn’t surprising considering the abominable reviews that the slasher remake received. The 2008 Prom Night was written off by critics as a dull compendium of slasher movie clichés.

While Prom Night’s ending might be predictable, the slasher remake still tells viewers a lot about the state of the horror subgenre back in the mid-‘00s. 1980’s original Prom Night was released at the height of the post-Halloween slasher boom and even starred the iconic scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. As such, it comes as no surprise that 2008’s remake Prom Night arrived amidst a spate of slasher remakes as filmmakers in the mid-‘00s scrambled to reboot, reinvent, and rewrite the many classic horror movies of the early ‘80s. Prom Night arrived after 2006’s Black Christmas and before 2008’s Sorority Row.
However, while the original Prom Night was not Jamie Lee Curtis’ best horror movie, it was still a lot better than 2008’s remake with Prom Night (2008) receiving brutal reviews upon release. The 2008 Prom Night's slasher story is disarmingly simple compared to others in the genre.

Three VOD charts and Netflix’s top 10 all resulted in films set in non-Earth planetary worlds leading the pack in home viewing. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (Disney) is #1 on VOD (at $19.99) at iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu, while “65,” four months after its theatrical release and multiple weeks scoring on VOD, tops Netflix’s movie chart.
“Galaxy” had a two-month window, as Disney increasingly slows down its initial home releases (“Avatar: The Way of Water” waited 100 days), and then to PVOD, not streaming. It was dominant enough that it led Vudu’s revenue-based list, even though it was only available for three of the seven days of their full-week rankings.

The 2008 slasher movie Prom Night is making the rounds on streaming services, prompting many to wonder if there's any Prom Night 2 news on the airwaves. While actress Brittany Snow didn't reach scream queen status until starring in Ti West's X, she's no stranger to the horror genre. Not counting the crime thriller On the Doll, Prom Night was Snow's first foray into horror, as she starred as senior high school student Donna Keppel. In the film, Donna is stalked by her former obsessive biology teacher Richard Fenton who murdered her parents three years prior.
As Donna and her friends prepare for their senior prom, Fenton makes a desperate attempt to get to her once again. While the movie received less-than-favorable reviews upon its release (via Rotten Tomatoes), that hasn't stopped audiences from scouring the net for Prom Night 2 news as many are hopeful to see Brittany Snow play Donna once again.

If you know anything about director/screenwriter Stuart Gordon, you know his work, particularly in theater, was 'out there.' After turning to film directing in 1985, Gordon soon began generating buzz for his offbeat work. What followed were a series of daring, sometimes controversial outings — from 1985’s Re-Animator to 1987’s Dolls. Then came Dagon in 2001. The Spanish film was loosely based on a H. P. Lovecraft's short story and kept Gordon in the public eye—although he’d written lighter fare like Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves and the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids television show.
Fans mourned Gordon’s death back in 2020, but like a lot of the shenanigans that take place in the new horror thriller Suitable Flesh, it appears that the man’s spirit is alive and well. A new episode of the Revisited video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that some may not consider to be a horror movie, but at the very least it is an “experimental psychological thriller” from a highly respected genre director. The director in question is David Lynch, and the movie we’re talking about today is the 2006 release Inland Empire (get it Here). To revisit Inland Empire with us, check out the video embedded above.
Written and directed by Lynch, Inland Empire tells the following story over the course of its 180 minute running time: Nikki, an actress, takes on a role in a new film, and because her husband is very jealous, her co-star Devon gets a warning not to make any romantic overtures — especially since the characters they play are having an affair. Halloween Kills brought back most of the cast from the 2018 version of Halloween as well as a couple of characters from the original movie. The original Halloween is now regarded as one of the most influential horror movies ever, spawning a long-running franchise that most recently completed a reboot trilogy, with Halloween Kills as its middle film. Halloween tells the story of Michael Myers, who on Halloween night 1963 murdered his older sister when he was just six years old. As a result, Michael was sent to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, where he stayed for over a decade and became Dr. Sam Loomis’ (Donald Pleasence) patient.
Fifteen years after murdering his sister, on October 30, 1978, Michael escaped and returned to his hometown Haddonfield, Illinois, where he began to stalk Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends. Laurie became the only survivor of Michael’s killing spree on Halloween night and the final girl of the franchise,...

That '70s Show ran for eight seasons but many of the episodes were broadcast out of order. The correct order can be determined by perceptive fans. The beloved period sitcom debuted in 1998 on Fox and aired 200 episodes in total. That '70s Show focused on six teenagers living in Point Place, Wisconsin. When the crew wasn't hanging out in Eric Forman's (Topher Grace) basement, they were usually getting into trouble due to their extreme boredom. They also spent a lot of time learning about relationships, society, and life in general while growing up in the '70s. The series received a sequel following their children, set about 15 years after the original series finale, called That '90s Show.
It's not uncommon for sitcoms to air their episodes out of production order, especially for shows that were broadcast in the '90s and earlier. As it wasn't required to watch every episode...
