Christmas is almost here, and that means it’s time to break out those classic and nostalgic Black-led holiday flicks.
When it comes to Black Christmas cinema, the Black community takes it very seriously, as there’s literally a debate online almost every year about which Black Christmas movies are the best, which ones aren’t Christmas movies at all, and the movies you have to have seen in order to not have your “Black card” revoked.
The Preacher’s Wife and Friday After Next are definitely Christmas movies.

Netflix finally released the long-awaited A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, featuring ten excellent performances of various songs. A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter features a stellar cast, with many surprise special guests, performers, and cameos who join Carpenter in a fun-filled holiday special. It is no surprise that Netflix partnered with Carpenter to provide a humorous and musical holiday special, especially given the rich history of Sabrina Carpenter's movies and TV shows. It is exciting to see Carpenter step out of her shell and deliver iconic performances and hilarious sketches, a homage to her musical and acting background.
A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter also has an entertaining soundtrack, featuring both original songs by Carpenter and classic Christmas covers. Carpenter even remixed some classic Christmas songs, such as turning "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" into "It's the Most Nonsense Time of the Year." The song choices...

Sabrina Carpenter does have the same initials as Santa Claus, so it only makes sense that she would have a musical comedy holiday special with guest stars on Netflix. The singer’s 50-minute segment, A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter, streaming as of the evening of Friday, Dec. 6 contained several familiar faces, both musically and in the comedy and acting worlds.
Sadly, there was no sign of Marcello Hernández’s Domingo, but Nico Hiraga played an impressive modern day Ebenezer “Ebby” Scrooge. Carpenter performed musical duets with powerhouse singers Tyla, Shania Twain, Kali Uchis and Chappell Roan while she acted alongside Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Kyle Mooney, Megan Stalter, Sean Astin, Owen Thiele and Jillian Bell.
She was pitched several “Nonsense” outtros that ranged from bad to “not the worst.” She sang several songs from her holiday EP “Fruitcake” in addition to some Christmas classics like “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,...

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Nonsense Christmas” show arrived on Netflix on Friday. Highlighting her 2023 “Fruitcake” EP, the 49-minute show was chock-full of celebrity appearances, sketch comedy and a blend of her festive tunes and Christmas classics with Carpenter’s signature remixed lyrics.

Netflix's Meet Me Next Christmas includes an exciting score and soundtrack packed with Pentatonix Christmas music and lesser-known but equally entertaining songs for the season. The rom-com follows a woman named Layla who tries to get a ticket to the sold-out Pentatonix Christmas Eve concert so that she can meet the man of her dreams. The first Netflix Christmas movie of the 2024 season has immediately become a hit with viewers because of the fun premise, superb acting, and head-bopping soundtrack.
Though Meet Me Next Christmas' cast is packed with actors who have singing and rapping backgrounds, the only cast members who sing during the movie are Pentatonix the pop acapella group who play an exaggerated and fictionalized version of themselves. Halloween is over, and the Christmas season has officially begun on Netflix, with the first of five new Christmas movies releasing on Wednesday.
This one is called “Meet Me Next Christmas,” and stars Christina Milian and Devale Ellis. It centers on Layla (Milian), as she frantically runs around New York City trying to get a ticket to Pentatonix’s Christmas Eve Concert, in the hopes of meeting the man of her dreams there.
So yes, there are a whole lot of Pentatonix songs on the soundtrack for the film. Some are new, some are classics, and some admittedly aren’t by Pentatonix at all.

Thirty years after In Living Color ended, Marlon Wayans is opening up about why his family walked away from the Fox show that launched them into fame.
During a recent interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the actor-writer-producer got candid about his family’s exit from the ’90s sketch comedy show, created by his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, after its fourth season.
“I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show and it was hurting Keenen’s pockets,” Marlon told host Shannon Sharpe. “Keenen was like, ‘Nah, you ain’t gonna do this to me.’ My family said, ‘Fuck this money.’ And we all left In Living Color.”
The show, which ran from 1990 to 1994, also featured Marlon’s other siblings, Damon Wayans, Kim Wayans and Shawn Wayans, and helped launch the careers of several other Hollywood notables including Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx.

Simply the best. On Sunday night, Patti Labelle paid tribute to her late friend and musical icon, Tina Turner, with a soul-stirring performance during the BET Awards.
Labelle took the stage to honor the incomparable Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, paying tribute to the late Turner with a rendition of “The Best.” Wearing a sparkly fringe minidress reminiscent of Turner’s signature style, the Godmother of Soul showed off her powerhouse vocals as she belted out the song’s lyrics — but not without a stumble here and there as she struggled to keep up with the teleprompter used to guide her through the song’s entirety.
Although Labelle’s vocals were solid, she admitted she wasn’t able to see the lyrics on the teleprompter throughout the tribute, telling the crowd, “I can’t see the words and I don’t know. I’m tryin’, y’all!”

"You People" is the latest comedy to take over Netflix. The movie - which features the star-studded cast of Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus - is about a young couple named Amira and Ezra who want to get married but are hoping to get their parents' approval first. Since they come from two very different backgrounds, that's easier said than done.
If you've already watched the film, you probably recognize London from movies like "Atl," "I Love You, Beth Cooper," "This Christmas," and, more recently, "Without Remorse." Her TV credits also include shows like "The Game," "Games People Play," and "True Story."
Outside of her acting career, London prefers to keep her personal life private, though she has been in a few public relationships over the years. Since entering the spotlight in the early 2000s, she's dated some famous musicians, with her most recent relationship being with the late Nipsey Hussle.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And with its list of new releases for December 2022, Hulu is planning accordingly.
Compared to its rival streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and HBO Max, Hulu is a bit more holiday forward in the final month of 2022. Sure, all the streaming services are bringing some Christmas content to the table, but Hulu is the only one to plant its flag in a special called It’s a Wonderful Binge. This comedic take on a psychedelic Purge-like Christmas is set to premiere on Dec. 8.
Elsewhere on Hulu this month, subscribers can look forward to the release of FX’s Kindred (Dec. 13). Based on a thrilling novel of the same name, this series follows a woman being violently yanked back and forth in time. In what’s increasingly become a tradition, Canadian comedy Letterkenny will premiere a new season the day after Christmas.

With movies such as Falling For Christmas and Spirited having come out in November and announcing Christmas' arrival, it's time to reunite with loved ones and celebrate the passing of one more promising year.
Just like there can't be a good year without Christmas, there can't be a good Christmas without music, and some artists put all their hearts into the heart task of encapsulating the Christmas spirit in a few words and a vibrant scenario. Christmas music videos are here to remind everyone how the holiday season can be the time of their lives if they want to.

Chris Martin's sweet, baritone voice fits perfectly with the Christmas feeling, and "Christmas Lights" mixes old Coldplay trademarks from its first alternative albums with their current pop-rock style; a slow-burn melody, sweet piano ballad, and a mesmerizing build-up to Martin's high notes.

August is officially the last month of summer, but it’s also when schools start to reopen while others might take a vacation. Any movies hoping to make money this month are working against many other factors, which is why it’s become somewhat of a last resort for many studios. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
