Rhona Mitra was the star of TNT action drama The Last Ship from 2014-2015 before dropping out of the spotlight for several years, but now the British actress is poised to make a comeback with four upcoming movies. In the early and mid-'00s, Mitra bounced between television and film, appearing opposite Kevin Bacon in Hollow Man before joining the ensemble cast led by James Spader and William Shatner in the early seasons of Boston Legal, and playing the ancestor of Selene in the Underworld franchise.
She starred in the action-heavy sci-fi thriller Doomsday, about zombie hordes taking over the Earth, and joined Mark Wahlberg for The Shooter. Known for her commanding screen presence, in the post-apocalyptic series The Last Ship, Mitra played Dr. Rachel Scott, a beloved character who abruptly left the series after being formative in trying to find a cure for the mainland virus in its first two seasons.

The saying goes that in order to understand someone, you have to walk a mile in their shoes, but Alex Schaad’s broad yet entrancing “Skin Deep” offers an alternate method: In order to understand someone, try swapping bodies with them for a few days. That solution might be less efficient, but it’s far more complete. Indeed, the mysterious white tower at the center of the Esalen-like island retreat where this lightly supernatural German drama takes place is nothing if not a machine that creates empathy. It creates other feelings too, but the people who seem most receptive to and transformed by the experience tend to think of empathy as the ultimate goal, if only because they’ve exhausted all other means of achieving it.

Despite poor box office performance, The Postcard Killings has landed on Netflix's Top 10 movies chart in the US. Familiarity with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen, as well as their previous work, likely contributed to the movie's success on the streaming platform. The popularity of crime TV shows on Netflix and the movie's premise of hunting down a serial killer also likely played a role in its inclusion in the Top 10 list.
A crime movie starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen that only made $181,415 at the box office is now on Netflix's Top 10 movies chart for the US. Morgan is best known for his role as Negan in The Walking Dead franchise, starring in the ongoing spinoff Dead City. Janssen was Jean Gray in the X-Men movie series, also having a prominent role in the Taken trilogy as Lenore Mills.

"When I said I wanted to do a comedy it was like, 'Arnold, why would you waste that time?" Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of cinema's all-time great action heroes, recalled during an appearance on "The Nerdist" podcast in 2014. In the mid to late '80s, nobody could touch Schwarzenegger. From "Terminator" to "Predator" and films like "Commando," nearly everything the bodybuilder-turned-actor touched turned to gold. So why mess that up by trying to do a comedy? Or so that's what the moneymen in Hollywood thought. But Schwarzenegger had a vision and no was not an option. His resilience led to the biggest payday of his illustrious career. Of all things, that giant payday came from his 1988 comedy "Twins."

Lemming Film, one of the Netherlands’ leading international co-production outlets, has brought its newest project, “Greed,” to Conecta Fiction’s Pitch Copro Series.
Spearheaded by up-and-coming director Eché Janga and leading screenwriter Oscar van Woensel, the six-episode horror-drama will follow a tight-knit group of Rotterdam restaurant workers who are offered all the money they could ever need, only to learn of the many dangerous strings attached.
In the first few episodes, seven working-class restaurateurs will see their dreams come true when millions of Euros get dropped off at their feet. But soon, those dreams curdle to nightmares when a mysterious group of men wearing deer masks turn up, demanding reciprocity for their financial largesse.
With a hard partying, twenty-and-thirty-something cast of characters and a gritty visual approach, “Greed” is pitched towards the same genre audience Lemming has sought to cultivate with its crime thriller “Fenix” and its upcoming vampire drama “Heirs of the Night.

After Eli Roth’s Death Wish, I didn’t think 2018 could deliver less subtle cinematic commentary – enter Gerard McMurray’s The First Purge. Remember those mock Maga hat posters and how on-the-nose they were? Consider said “satire” understated in comparison to the shoot-em-up cleansing illustrated in-full.
Civilians are fed up. They – we – have every right to be. If you weren’t sure about previous Purge film intentions (Somehow), let there be no mistake. McMurray is coming for Donald Trump, he’s coming for alt-right Nazis and he’s coming for the America we’ve become numbingly accustomed to. I know this because it’s spelled out in every scene with neon subtitles, blatant tragedies and a billion different references that tie *directly* to real life. Unfiltered anger erupts without warning, but it takes precedence over storytelling, continuity and other filmmaking aspects. Think of it as ariticism by way of the gun.

“The Purge” may be the only horror movie franchise that gets more plausible with each sequel. Sure, “Friday the 13th” gave us a Jason Voorhees who turned undead, fought Firestarter, transformed into a mustache-fetishizing bodysnatcher, and journeyed into space, but “The Purge” just keeps peeling back layers.
When the series started, the vision of a dystopian future where all crime is legal in the United States for 12 hours seemed like a ridiculous fantasy. Nowadays, it seems only a few steps removed from actual national policy.
“The First Purge,” directed by Gerard McMurray (“Burning Sands”), tells the story of those few steps. The film is a prequel and opens with news footage that we all recognize, of white supremacists in the streets, economic strife, and a nation wholly divided. By the time a conservative president takes the podium and declares, “The American Dream is dead. We will do whatever it takes to let you dream again,...

Way back in 2006, Christopher McQuarrie was announced as the writer and director of The Stanford Prison Experiment. Nine years later the film is finally complete, but in rather different form than originally planned. McQuarrie is now listed only among the producers, with the screenplay credit going to Tim Talbott (South Park, Medium), and Kyle Patrick Alvarez (C.O.G.) in the director's chair. Ezra Miller, Thomas Mann, Billy Crudup and Olivia Thirlby head up the cast, and here's a trailer. The film, of course, is based on the infamous human behaviour study conducted in the early 1970s. The experiment saw a group of Us college students taking on the roles of prisoners and guards to study the effects of incarceration. Within a day, the “guards” resorted to psychological torture and humiliation and the “prisoners” began to riot. It’s been a cultural touchstone for years – and several films based on the subject...

Following up on yesterday's first casting news for Duncan Jones' big screen adaptation of the Blizzard Entertainment video game juggernaut World of Warcraft, another casting update has made its way online.
THR reports that Dominic Cooper (pictured) is in final negotiations to join the fantasy opposite the previously announced Ben Foster ("Six Feet Under," Pandorum, Rampart), Travis Fimmel ("Vikings," The Experiment), Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Rob Kazinsky ("True Blood," Pacific Rim).
Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) has closed a deal with Legendary Pictures to bring a live action version of WoW to the big screen. Charles Leavitt (The Seventh Son) came on board last August to pen the script. Legendary, which picked up film rights to adapt the popular fantasy video game franchise back in 2006, said it's planning for a summer 2015 release.

Forest Whitaker has already played one historical leader and won an Oscar for it and now he may do it again. Paul Greengrass is casting for his upcoming film Memphis and he has his eye on the Academy Award-winning actor for the role of Martin Luther King Jr. The Scott Rudin-produced film was originally a Universal property but was dropped (due to scheduling and financing) a while back. It’s been in development for some time now and has only recently started to pick up some steam.

The story follows a man (Bryan Greenberg) who enrolls in a clinical drug trial to get out of debt. He is transported out of New York with an odd assortment of patients known as The Normals, one of whom is Jess Weixler's Gretchen. I recently had the chance to speak with this talented young actress about her new film. Here's what she had to say.

What is more of a startling occurrence is when said unfancied also-ran is announced as the victor, with their Celebrity Square suddenly expanding, and their face contorted with disbelief and unguarded astonishment in front of millions of amazed viewers.

Forest Whitaker clearly enjoyed butting heads with Michael Chiklis during his brief tenure spent on Us cop drama The Shield. Because the pair is teaming back up again for crime pic Pawn.
David A Armstrong - who has largely been a cinematographer or second unit director on films such as Dead Awake and Saw VI - is stepping up to the main chair for this one, which revolves around a hostage situation that quickly goes very badly wrong. Trapped in the middle is an ex-con who becomes part of a nasty game between the local police, federal authorities and the mob.
Jay Anthony White wrote the script, which has also attracted the likes of Common and Ray Liotta.
Chiklis, who is also producing the movie via his new company, was last seen in Eagle Eye and will next crop up in Parker. Whitaker was most recently in The Experiment and has Catch .44 coming up.
