Exclusive: Bill Kaulitz has swapped the concert stage for the big screen by landing his first film role.

The Tokio Hotel frontman, whose band is among Germany’s most successful music acts, has landed a role in Brute 1986, an indie pic inspired by 1980s slasher movies.

In the film, Leather Kobra, a Sunset Strip-style glam metal band films a music video in an abandoned Western town in the middle of nowhere. Ignoring ‘no trespassing’ signs, the rebellious group have no idea they are being watched by the Birdy family, who will meet them with a “level of brutality that is as vicious as it is creative,” according to producers.

Exclusive: BBC Studios, the L.A.-based production group behind series such as ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and NBC’s Weakest Link, is staffing up.

The company has hired former NBCU unscripted chief Jenny Groom and promoted Ryan O’Dowd and Krystal Whitney.

Groom, who was EVP Entertainment Unscripted Content at NBCUniversal, left the company in 2022 and has been consulting for companies including Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions.

She now joins the commercial arm of the British public broadcaster as EVP Unscripted Development.

Groom, who greenlighted series including The Traitors and Love Island during her time at NBCU, previously oversaw all unscripted competition formats across NBC, Peacock, Bravo, E! and USA Network. Exclusive: Critical Content, the company behind shows such as MTV’s Catfish and NBC’s Celebrity Game Face, is moving into the next phase of an international formats strategy after closing a deal with German powerhouse producer Leonine Studios.

The company, which is run by Jenny Daly, has now struck eight international deals across countries including Australia, Korea, Belgium, France and Dubai as it looks for fresh formats that can be produced both internationally and in the U.S.

The first-look deal will see Leonine, which runs companies like Seo Entertainment, which remade Jimmy Fallon’s That’s My Jam locally, develop and produce Critical formats in Germany.

Exclusive: NBCUniversal Formats guru Ana Langenberg is exiting after seven years.

The former Endemol Shine Group exec has been SVP of the international formats division of the U.S. major since September 2017, working across sales for the likes of Top Chef, Suits, That’s My Jam and, most recently, Monk to Disney+ Hotstar in India.

Deadline understands Langenberg is leaving her SVP, Format Sales & Productions role at the end of the year to spend more time with her family and the role will be reviewed in the meantime.

NBC will air a special edition of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” after a November edition of “Sunday Night Football” next month.

“The Tonight Show” will broadcast on NBC after the Nov. 17 matchup between the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts, with local news airing in between the conclusion of “SNF” and the start of “The Tonight Show.”

The special edition of the late night show will feature a star-studded lineup of guests, including Jon Hamm, Lindsay Lohan and Pharrell Williams.

While Fallon’s “Tonight Show” has previously aired special episodes on Sundays, including in 2019 when it similarly aired five broadcasts after “Sunday Night Football” games, Fallon hasn’t hosted the show on a Sunday recently.

The last of TV’s big five-original-nights-a-week late-night show is giving up 24 hours out of its schedule.

NBC will move “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to four nights a week, the latest in a series of moves across the late-night daypart aimed at shoring up the economics of the programs as audiences move away from watching TV in linear fashion. Like its late-night rivals, “Tonight” will air in repeats on Fridays.

CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” are already on a four-originals-per-week schedule.

NBC has been examining costs in late-night in recent months. Earlier this year, the network decided to eliminate the house band from Meyers’ 12:35 a.m. hour, a move that recently went into effect. But all of the networks have tested similar maneuvers in recent years.

A fan-favorite from the classic sitcom, Community, will feature in Season 3 of the hit series, Yellowjackets. Acclaimed actor Joel McHale is set to appear in the Paramount+ on Showtime thriller drama.

According to Variety, McHale is confirmed as a part of the Yellowjackets Season 3 cast, with the Community lead actor landing a guest star role on the show. Details on McHale's character in the upcoming Yellowjackets season, which is currently in production, are being kept under wraps.

Jimmy Fallon has extended his deal with NBCUniversal, which will now see him hosting The Tonight Show through 2028, the company announced Thursday.

“For nearly 30 years, Jimmy Fallon has brought laughter into the homes of millions and charmed audiences from the stages of 30 Rock,” NBCUniversal Media Group chairman Mark Lazarus said in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to witness Jimmy at the helm of the The Tonight Show and we’re thrilled to see what innovations he and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network.”

Jimmy Fallon has renewed his deal with NBCUniversal, holding onto his position as the host of “The Tonight Show” through 2028.

The extension comes just after Fallon’s 10-year anniversary on the show, which NBC celebrated with a two-hour primetime special on May 14.

Fallon has been an NBC mainstay since 1998, when he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” He remained on the late night sketch show for six seasons, hosting “Weekend Update” alongside Tina Fey from 2000 to 2004, at which point he left the show to pursue a film career. He returned to the network in 2009, succeeding Conan O’Brien as the host of “Late Night” until 2014 before moving to “The Tonight Show,” succeeding Jay Leno.

Jimmy Fallon is sticking around 30 Rock.

Fallon has extended his deal with NBC to continue hosting The Tonight Show through 2028.

His current deal, that he signed in 2021, is thought to run through 2026, giving him at least another two years. Fallon, who earlier this year celebrated his tenth anniversary, recently told Deadline that he wanted to break Johnny Carson’s record on The Tonight Show. Carson did 30 years.

The move also lined up Fallon’s contract with the recent deal with his late-night peer Seth Meyers, who struck a deal to keep hosting Late Night, through 2028.

Fallon is deep in business with the company; he also hosts musical game show That’s My Jam, which has been delayed to 2025, and is an exec producer and panelist on Password. Deadline understands that Fallon is also working on a number of other TV projects for the network.

NBC is setting up another reality summer.

The network has unveiled premiere dates for its summer slate including America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior, Password, The Wall and Weakest Link.

It’s much the same look as last year, although without the likes of Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge, Dick Wolf’s LA Fire and Rescue and Jimmy Fallon’s That’s My Jam.

Deadline understands that Hot Wheels, which comes from Endemol Shine North America, Workerbee TV and Mattel Television, and docuseries LA Fire and Rescue, have both been canceled. The latter premiered its first season on May 30, 2023 and the former premiered on June 21, 2023.

In terms of That’s My Jam, Deadline revealed that production had been paused in February, understood to be for celebrity scheduling reasons.

Exclusive: That’s My Jam, Jimmy Fallon’s music-themed game show, may take slightly longer to return to screens than previously planned.

The NBC show was set to start production on its third season imminently but Deadline understands that it has now been paused.

The reason, we hear, is scheduling, largely as a result of the vast number of celebrities that are required to film each episode. For instance, each episode features two teams of two celebrities competing in a series of music, dance and trivia-based games and musical performances.

This has included the likes of Ariana Grande and Blake Shelton competing against Kelly Clarkson and John Legend and Kenan Thompson and Big Boi versus Kesha and Renée Elise Goldberry.

Given that the show films up to a dozen episode across a small number of days, this can be somewhat of a challenge.

That’s right. NBC is coming out swinging, with all of their most lauded programming returning in January, which will give them a significant leg up over the competition.

Their careful planning for Fall 2023 has already put them at the forefront.

NBC had more original scripted programming than any other major broadcaster, so the network heads into midseason #1 in both total viewers and the 18-49 demo in overall programming, as well as being #1 in total viewers in entertainment-only programming.

NBC has set premiere dates for the early part of 2024, and the network will roll out several of its biggest scripted shows a few weeks ahead of its rivals.

With production ramping up following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, NBC will have a fairly tight turnaround between the start of filming and the returns of several of its shows. Second-year comedy Night Court — which continued production after season one wrapped last spring and did some filming before writers went on strike in May — and new series Extended Family (which filmed off-cycle and has a full season finished) will premiere Dec. 23 following a Saturday afternoon NFL game, then move into their regular homes starting Jan. 2. That’s more than a month earlier than the announced return of any scripted series on other broadcasters; ABC’s comedies The Conners, Not Dead Yet and Abbott Elementary are set to premiere on Feb.

NBC fan favorites such as “Law and Order,” “Night Court” and the “Chicago” universe will officially be debuting new seasons in January. The broadcast network confirmed these series’ return dates as part of its midseason schedule on Monday, which also includes twists on established unscripted shows and the premiere of the John Cryer comedy “Extended Family.”

New Year’s Day will mark the premiere of a new twist on “America’s Got Talent,” titled “Fantasy League.” Similar to a fantasy sports draft, judges will select their roster of their favorites from a collection of past winners, finalists, fan favorites and viral sensations.

That will be followed by episodes of both Season 2 of “Night Court” and the new John Cryer, Donald Faison and Abigail Spencer comedy “Extended Family.” Though these comedies officially return on Dec. 23, they will settle into their time periods on Jan. 2.

With the strikes that shut down Hollywood over, NBC is setting midseason premiere dates for much of its scripted lineup.

The Dick Wolf universe of shows — “Chicago Med,” Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Svu” and “Law & Order: Organized Crime” — are all poised to return.

New episodes of the “One Chicago” shows will debut Wednesday, Jan. 17. “Chicago Med” will lead off at 8 p.m. Et, followed by “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” The following night on Thursday, Jan. 18, “Law & Order” starts things off at 8 p.m., followed by the 25th season premiere of “Law & Order: Svu” and concluding with “Law & Order: Organized Crime.”

NBC, the only broadcast network to have original, homegrown scripted series on the fall schedule with The Irrational and Found, will also launch most of its strike-impacted scripted slate the fastest.

The network has announced its midseason premiere dates, which include mid-January returns for Wolf Entertainment’s three One Chicago and three Law & Order dramas on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

That is a month before dramas on the other major broadcast networks are set to return with new episodes and a couple of weeks before any scripted series elsewhere come back. NBC will premiere its new Jon Cryer comedy Extended Family as well as air a special holiday episode of sophomore sitcom Night Court on Saturday, Dec. 23 immediately following its coverage of the NFL matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The streaming service on Wednesday unveiled a trailer for Sly, a Sylvester Stallone retrospective that “offers an intimate look at the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer, paralleling his inspirational underdog-story with the indelible characters he has brought to life,” according to the official description.

NBC’s renewed the celebrity competition game show That’s My Jam for a third season. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the Emmy-nominated series will return for a 10-episode (plus a greatest hits hour) third season. Season three’s premiere date was not revealed in the renewal announcement.

“Jimmy brings music, comedy, games and celebrities together in a way that only he can, and it’s what makes That’s My Jam an undeniable hit,” said Corie Henson, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content, NBCUniversal Entertainment. “We can’t wait for the show to return for a third season with even more brilliant performances and viral moments audiences can’t seem to get enough of.”

That’s My Jam, the musical variety series led by The Tonight Show host, has been renewed for a third season.

It comes after the show entered the Emmy race; That’s My Jam was nominated in the Outstanding Game Show category alongside ABC’s Jeopardy!, Wheel Of Fortune and Family Feud as well as CBS’ The Price Is Right – the first time that game shows were upgraded to the primetime Emmys after having previously been part of the daytime Emmys.

It also performed well for NBC; the season 2 premiere averaged 31% higher ratings than the first season’s average and it continued to outperform season 1 over its run.

The show, which is inspired by segments on Fallon’s late-night show, aired its first season between November 2021 and January 2022 and its second season ran from March to May 2023.

Last season was a mixed bag for NBC. Like the other broadcast networks, NBC is relying heavily on existing properties and last year even revived the previously cancelled Law & Order series. NBCUniversal Entertainment has tapped Universal Television Alternative Studio exec Christine Cowan as its new senior vice president of casting and talent.

In her new role, Cowan will head up casting and talent management for scripted and unscripted shows, with a particular focus on unscripted, across the NBCUniversal Entertainment brands NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen True Crime, Syfy, USA Network, Universal Kids and Peacock.

She reports to executive vice president of casting and talent Grace Wu.

Cowan is shifting over from her role at Comcast-owned sister studio Universal Television Alternative Studios, where she held the role of vice president of casting and talent. She was head talent booker and casting executive overseeing Jimmy Fallon’s “That’s My Jam,” “Baking It,” hosted by Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, “Dancing with Myself,” starring Shakira, and NBC’s upcoming “The Americas,” narrated by Tom Hanks.

The first live show of “America’s Got Talent” Season 18 marked Tuesday night’s most-watched and highest-rated program among the major broadcasters.

As audiences tuned in to see live acts performing on the NBC reality competition series, which features judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and host Terry Crews, “America’s Got Talent” brought in an average 0.60 rating in the key broadcast demographic among adults 18-49 — up from last Tuesday’s 0.44 rating — and a total viewership of 5.82 million, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures.

After the 8 p.m. airing of “America’s Got Talent,” “That’s My Jam” earned a 0.25 rating and drew in 1.86 total viewers at 10 p.m., boosting NBC to nab the highest rating — with an average 0.49 rating — as well as the highest viewership of the broadcasters with an average 4.5 million total viewers.
