Jigsaw's games are over, at least for now.
Per Bloody Disgusting, it's been reported that the upcoming sequel Saw XI has been canceled. The sequel was previously announced for a theatrical release on Sept. 27, 2024, before it was then delayed to Sept. 26, 2025. While the movie's fate hasn't been officially confirmed, the new report quotes an unnamed source close to the production as saying, "It's totally dead. It's 100% over. Almost a year now."
The new report also noted that the source stated, "Everything went sideways in January 2024... the producers started fighting." One of the producers reportedly attempted to "plow forward" with production despite the friction, while the other "put up roadblocks," ultimately stalling the movie from getting started. As for why Lionsgate executives didn't get involved in an attempt to get Saw XI back on track, the source added, “[Lionsgate] didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement.”

Darkside, the trio of Nicolás Jaar, Dave Harrington, and Tlacael Esparza, have returned with the announcement of a new album, Nothing, and the release of its latest single, “S.N.C.”
Due on February 28th via Matador Records, Nothing will be the band’s first full-length effort since 2021’s Spiral, and also marks their first release since becoming a trio, thanks to the addition of drummer Esparza.

Unlike previous albums — which were written based on pre-developed ideas and song fragments — Nothing sees the band on a new creative plane, forging the music out of loose jam sessions.
The previously-released track, “Graucha Max,” and the new single, “S.N.C,” reflect that, pairing the band’s signature knack for audio design with kaleidoscopic arrangements, as colors and textures bounce in and out of orbit over a driving beat. “S.N.C” hits an especially groovy peak around midway through its six-minute runtime, as clavs,...

Paris Has Fallen boasts an impressive cast of international stars, bringing humanity to the action-packed show. The series is the latest entry in the "Has Fallen" franchise. The show builds on the tone established by the Gerald Butler-led Olympus Has Fallen. Paris Has Fallen focuses on a series of attacks carried out in the French capital by an embittered former member of the French Foreign Legion named Jacob Pearce. Struggling to prevent further bloodshed are Vincent Taleb and Zara Taylor, a bodyguard and an Mi:6 agent both operating within the city.
Paris Has Fallen has plenty of intense action, but the real draw of the series is the compelling conspiracy that Pearce seeks to expose and how it impacts the people connected to it. The stars of the show hail from across Europe, bringing a natural diversity to a story that highlights the crimes and mistakes of the recent past.

Last year, we heard that Spyder Dobrofsky – who worked on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away, and made his feature directorial debut with the mystery thriller Spiral – was making a holiday horror movie called Down Below. That movie made its way out into the world back in October (you can check it out on Amazon), and now it has been announced that Dobrofsky is following it up with a creature feature called The Weeping! Lindsey Shaw (Ned’s Declassified), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), Reggie Lee (Tropic Thunder), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man), Shoshana Bush (On My Block), and Hutch Dano (Zombeavers) have signed on to star in the film, which heads into production next month.

For many fans, Season 2 of 8bit's popular sports anime, Blue Lock, has failed to live up to the high standard of animation quality seen in Season 1. In response to mounting social media backlash against the series, a former Blue Lock animator directly blames Kodansha's production committee for not giving the staff enough time to put out a high-quality product.
Blue Lock's second season, which premiered on Oct. 5, is currently a popular target on social media for repeated animation errors, inconsistencies and shortcuts. The release of Episode 6's preview was quickly met with derision from X (formerly Twitter) users, who highlighted instances of sluggish body animation and static soccer ball shots sliding across the screen to simulate movement. Evakoi (@Evakoiani), who previously worked as an animator on Blue Lock Season 1, urged members of the anime community to not mock or harass the anime's staff. Over 10 films to date and an 11th scheduled for late September of 2025, Saw is a franchise that rivals most in terms of both output and fandom. It had a run of 7 straight films over 7 years which began with the out of nowhere Saw in 2004 and culminating with Saw 3D in 2010. Its consistency may have trailed off temporarily with scattered entries following in 2017, 2021, and 2023, but the series as a whole is well known and has branched off into nearly every conceivable type of media. From comics and novels to video games and toys, Saw may just be primed to start another legendary run in the 2020s. Saw III was a runaway train that is still the highest grossing film in the series, but it was almost not even made after the original creators were done. With traps that were some of the most creative and even including Tobin Bell’s favorite...

Part of the joy of watching John Kramer's (Tobin Bell) intricate traps in Saw isn't the blood and gore but how everything comes together in the end. While the long-running horror series has a reputation for its torture, the opposite is actually the case. The violence in the films is undeniable, but there is a meaningful message at the heart of Saw. "Cherish your life" becomes a mantra of Jigsaw's, and he puts people through these traps because they need to learn some lesson. Those who survive often become better for it.
Saw has been a source of inspiration over the years, but no franchise can hold a candle to the original. This is because, in addition to delivering high-concept material, it is also known for some monumental twists viewers would never see coming.

Tobin Bell owns a metal briefcase that he uses to house nine composition books, each one containing the notes he took to prepare to play John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, in the movies that make up the Saw franchise.. Soon, he’ll start taking notes in a tenth book, because Saw XI is on track for a September 26, 2025 release – and he has confirmed to the LA Times that Kramer is “a main part” of the latest sequel.
The LA Times reports that the first page of the notes Bell took for the original Saw “includes a drawn spiral interrogating the likes, dislikes and motivations” of his character. The other pages “are occupied by a series of questions about the character. They start with the most basic details — ‘Where am I?’ for example — and evolve into increasingly specific queries until they form an inverse triangle brimming with insight he’s deciphered on his own.

While the franchise started out as a low-budget horror movie, it takes a lot to have the Saw movies explained from the increasingly complicated timeline. Despite the franchise's popularity, it hit a point where some critics complained that the further along the series progressed, the harder it was to keep up without having seen every entry in it, preferably recently. Whether that was a big issue is debatable, Saw definitely tried its best to tie everything together for most of its run in a way that other horror series didn't always try.
For the first eight movies, the series all followed one relatively consistent Saw plot point centered around John "Jigsaw" Kramer. However, the spinoff ninth installment Spiral took place years later with a copycat killer of sorts. 2023's Saw X pulls off the shocking move of bringing Jigsaw back into the fold despite the fact that he died way...

Saw XI will feature the return of Tobin Bell's Jigsaw. The character, whose real name is John Kramer, is a cancer patient and engineer who places his victims in deadly traps to teach the survivors moral lessons about how to embrace life. Although he died during the events of Saw III, the complicated interlocking timeline of the franchise has allowed him to appear in nearly every installment of the 10-part franchise, which will soon include the upcoming Saw XI after the success of 2023's Saw X, a prequel centering Bell's character between the events of the first two movies.

Last year, we heard that Spyder Dobrofsky – who worked on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away, and made his feature directorial debut with the mystery thriller Spiral – was making a holiday horror movie called Down Below and had assembled a solid cast for the project: the legendary Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) stars alongside Bai Ling (The Crow), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), and Doug Jones, who is best known for his creature (or heavily made up) performances in films like The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Hocus Pocus. Now, Down Below has been sent out into the world, as it was given a digital release this week and is available to rent or purchase on Amazon’s Prime Video at This Link.

The majority of Junji Itō adaptations are underseen or simply unknown. The sheer amount may also come as a surprise. The peak of movies based on the horror mangaka’s works was during the “J-Horror” wave; The Ring (1998) signaled a sea change in Japanese horror, and studios were looking everywhere for inspiration. Unfortunately, Itō is not the easiest of source materials. His stories and illustrations are surreal and visceral, and translating all of that into moving images is, to say the least, challenging.
Two years after living-dead girl Tomie made the leap to the big screen in 1998, Uzumaki was brought to life. The movie, which was put on a double-bill with Tomie: Replay, served as Akihiro “Higuchinsky” Higuchi’s feature debut. And so far in the cinematic collective derived from Itō’s oeuvre, Uzumaki is one of the most competent. Other adaptations have been partly inspired by their basis; they...

Saw is returning to cinemas to celebrate its 20th anniversary in October, in a 4K restoration. More here.
When Leigh Whannell and James Wan made a short film about a woman who wakes up tied to a chair with a reverse bear trap on her head in 2003, all to help them pitch their feature film script to studios, they couldn’t possibly have imagined it would lead to one of the most popular and successful horror franchises of the 21st century.
Though it later became a byword for meaningless violence and gore with the increasingly grisly trap sequences – for this writer, Saw 3 is the most graphic film is the series, The Rack is particularly vile – by comparison, the original Saw is remarkable for how restrained it is in its violence. Most of the film consists of a two hander in what must by now be the most famous bathroom in horror history.

In Geoffrey Sax's 2005 thriller "White Noise," Michael Keaton plays an architect named Jonathan Rivers (not to be confused with rocker Johnny Rivers) who is living in connubial bliss with his second wife Anna (Chandra West). One night, Anna doesn't come home. She remains missing for five months. Jonathan is devastated, but holds out hope that she may still be alive. One day, he is contacted by a man named Raymond (Ian McNeice) who claims to have a clue as to Anna's whereabouts. Raymond has been watching static-tuned TVs and listening to garbled radio signals, and claims he can hear voices emerging through the hissing. Raymond is convinced that the voices are the voices of ghosts, able to communicate with the land of the living through electrical signals.
Jonathan doesn't believe Raymond at first, but soon falls under the spell of white noise monitoring. He finds that his monitoring is...

September is going to be a big month for fans of one of the most iconic horror franchises of all-time. Peacock has officially announced that each of the first six Saw movies will begin streaming on the platform starting September 1. The Saw franchise has seen many legendary actors come and go since the first movie premiered 20 years ago in 2004, such as Cary Elwes, Donnie Wahlberg, and Scott Patterson, but one constant has remained the same, which is Tobin Bell voicing the legendary Jigsaw. Bell has voiced the character in every entry in the franchise except the ninth, Spiral, where the character is entirely absent. Saw 7-10 will not begin streaming on Peacock at the same time as the first six films, and there is no update on if they will join their counterparts.

Stand-up comedians don’t typically get cast in iconic horror franchises, hence why Rodney Dangerfield never faced off against Freddy Krueger, and Joan Rivers never ridiculed Michael Myers’ uninspired coverall ensemble.
But in 2019, the world was blindsided by the news that Chris Rock would be executive producing and starring in a new Saw movie, presumably in which a Jigsaw-like psycho tortures people using only a DVD copy of Grown Ups 2.
In 2021, we got Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which indeed found Rock playing a Chris Rock-like detective named Zeke Banks, who’s hot on the trail of a brutal serial killer.
While society has seemingly memory-holed Spiral, a lot of people brought it up in response to a recent social media post asking for examples of modern movies in which stand-up comedians perform their acts in character, à la Rodney Dangerfield. A lot of people pointed to Spiral...

The groundbreaking survival horror video game franchise Silent Hill is poised for a full revival over the next several months. Konami is publishing a remake of the universally acclaimed Silent Hill 2 in October 2024 while a new installment, titled Silent Hill: Townfall, is currently in development by No Code and Annapurna Interactive. However, while it’s great to see Silent Hill emerge from a lengthy period of inactivity and bizarrely executed spinoffs, the franchise is still haunted by the ghost of the long-canceled title Silent Hills.
Perhaps the greatest video game never made, Silent Hills was intended to be a return to form for the Silent Hill franchise helmed by longtime Konami game director Hideo Kojima and fan-favorite filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. Unceremoniously canceled in the wake of Kojima and Konami’s abrupt rupture in their professional relationship and Konami’s changing video game strategy, all that publicly remains of Silent Hills is P.

The Spiral Abyss may get a great new feature for players with the arrival of Genshin Impact 5.0. The QoL update mentioned in the Version 5.0 leaks seems to be inspired by Honkai: Star Rail's approach to an endgame activity. The leaks about Version 5.0 changes in the Spiral Abyss suggest that players will see an improvement in their experience.
As seen in new Genshin Impact 5.0 leaks, the Spiral Abyss will have a game-changing quality-of-life (QoL) update. The Spiral Abyss is one of the main endgame activities for players to challenge themselves in HoYoverses action RPG, now joined by the Imaginarium Theater since Version 4.7. The activity constantly rotates its modifiers and opponents, offering fresh new challenges every period, as well as rewards for players to seize should they complete them. Starting with Version 5.0, after unlocking the Spiral Abyss in Genshin Impact, players may have an easier time claiming some rewards they are entitled to.

2017's Jigsaw has become a Netflix streaming hit. The movie was the platform's ninth most-watched movie in the United States in the week of July 1 through July 9. The Saw movies have enjoyed success in the past few years that seems to be rehabilitating the franchise after years of doldrums.
Jigsaw has become a streaming hit on Netflix. The 2017 horror movie was a legacy sequel and the eighth movie in the Saw franchise, coming seven years after the previous installment. Despite grossing $104.2 million against a budget of $10 million, it failed to produce a direct sequel, as it was later followed by the 2021 spinoff Spiral: From the Book of Saw and the 2023 prequel Saw X.

The Saw franchise is a blockbuster horror series though the first seven entries have been something of a mixed bag in terms of reviews from critics and audiences. Jigsaw, the 2017 reboot, struggled to capture the glory of previous Saw movies. The traps were less ingenious, and the movie moved away from the satirical nature of the original series, making it less playful. Spiral: From the Book of Saw, while lacking Tobin Bell's Jigsaw, attempted to evolve the franchise beyond a character that died six movies ago. It starts slow but goes full Saw eventually. The final twist was predictable, making it a good but not great movie.

Ah, the "Saw" franchise. What started off as a tight little low-budget horror film blossomed into an entire saga that ushered in what some folks consider to be the "torture porn" era of horror movies. The "Saw" franchise is actually somehow still kicking — after the not-very-good "Spiral: From the Book of Saw," the series rebounded nicely with last year's surprisingly good "Saw X." A new sequel, "Saw XI," is on the way, due out next year. Why do they keep making these movies? The answer is simple: people keep watching them. There was a time when Lionsgate had a new "Saw" movie ready to go almost every Halloween season, and that approach brought out the crowds. It got to the point where they adopted the clumsy tagline "If it's Halloween, it must be Saw."
While audiences have continued to turn out for "Saw" and its many death traps, critics haven't...
