Dexter — a punchy indictment of all-too-common prosecutorial failures — remains as stingingly relevant as ever. For lovers of tales about clever, meticulous, and oft-weird characters, the show will never expire. And things are seemingly getting better. The crime drama’s fans never thought they’d have it this good, considering how poorly things ended the first time around. Debra’s death and Dexter’s happy ending arc in the finale left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Beyond that, the final season, in general, was considered weak by most critics, scoring 35% on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest for any season). Thankfully, the brilliant minds at Showtime have made serious efforts to write the wrongs.

One of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro's most iconic movies is getting a new streaming home soon. Pacino rose to fame portraying the youngest son of the Corleone family in The Godfather trilogy. His follow-up performances in Scarface and Dog Day Afternoon further cemented his status as a formidable actor. De Niro’s career formed along similar genre lines with gritty roles in mob films like Goodfellas, while winning Best Actor for his gripping portrayal of Jake Lamotta in Raging Bull. The two have thus defined the crime genre with unparalleled talent and their brooding on-screen presence in action-packed dramas.
Though the two legends have often worked separately, their collaborations have nonetheless brought about some significant films. Their time in The Godfather Part II, where De Niro plays a young Vito and father to Pacino's Michael, solidified both actors' reputations as masters of the crime and gangster genres,...

Robert De Niro is arguably one of the best actors of all time. He's been portraying various kinds of characters in various kinds of movies for five-plus decades now. Every new role feels like a fun new challenge for him, even if the movies he's in aren't always the best. Fans can always count on De Niro to deliver some element of authenticity to a role, doing it in a way that only Robert De Niro can do it. Of all his most famous roles, he has certainly developed a reputation for playing the gangster or the criminal. Whether working with great directors like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola or starring in lesser-known titles such as Righteous Kill and Analyze This, De Niro always plays a great gangster.
Of all his most well-known films, the 90s had some of his best, including Goodfellas, Casino and Heat, to name a few.

Imagine if Al Pacinos Lieutenant Vincent Hanna had taken a hit of coke on-screen in Heat. Such a display of drug use certainly would have, at the very least, altered Pacinos character in the eyes of moviegoers. And who knows what the ramifications would have been if detective Hanna went up against the conniving career criminal Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) while clearly coked up in director Michael Manns classic crime drama nearly 30 years ago. And thanks to Pacino, fans now know that just such a scene was left on the cutting room floor.
According to the meteoric, Academy Award-winning star who brought the larger-than-life character to life in the classic crime drama, a scene was indeed cut from Heat in which Hanna partook of some illegal stimulants. Pacino makes the revelation in his new book, Sonny Boy: A Memoir, and the actor writes (per The Independent):

Robert De Niro has been one of Hollywood’s most critically and commercially successful actors. Thanks to his acting skills and collaborations with director Martin Scorsese, he has an extremely well-decorated filmography. But, when his Heat co-star Al Pacino chose Raging Bull as his favorite De Niro film, the choice surprised most fans.

Al Pacino and the Taxi Driver star have been frequent collaborators and seen together in 4 films yet: The Godfather: Part II, Heat, Righteous Kill, and The Irishman. When Robert De Niro was asked about his favorite Pacino film, he could not think about anything but The Godfather I and II. However, hardly anybody expected Pacino to name De Niro’s 1980 sports drama as his favorite.

De Niro and Pacino finally shared the screen together in 1995's Heat, a thrilling film adored by fans. The actors have stacked up numerous awards throughout their careers, proving their unmatched talent on screen. Director Michael Mann's dream cast for Heat included De Niro, Pacino, and a star-studded lineup, creating on-screen magic.
Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have been associated since they starred in 1974s The Godfather Part II. However, due to the films interwoven time structure, the two never appear on-screen at the same time. Many people often misremember this fact and cannot believe that the two never starred in a movie or scene together until 1995.
That was the year the two men starred in the Michael Mann action film, Heat. It was a tour de force for both actors and a delight for theatergoers who had been waiting for the two men to find a vehicle worthy of their stardom.

The best Mma fighters-turned-actors showcased unstoppable determination in both the ring and onscreen. Some fighters, like Oleg Taktarov, seamlessly transitioned from winning titles to starring opposite Hollywood legends. Controversy hasn't stopped fighters like Ronda Rousey from finding success in film after their fighting careers.
Finding success as an Mma fighter took commitment, determination, and skill, so it only made sense that many acclaimed fighters later transferred these talents to the world of acting. With acclaimed roles in action, comedy, dramas, and sci-fi, several high-profile fighters have carved out second careers for themselves in Hollywood after already making sports history with impressive runs in Mma organizations like the UFC. There are few people on planet Earth who can rap as fast as J Noa — and even fewer who actually have something to say. On her 2023 debut EP, Autodidactica, the 18-year-old Mc from the 5 de Abril barrio in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, showcased one of the most nimble flows in rap of any language, along with a penchant for strings-laden throwback beats and a modern perspective. Beyond merely precocious, her voice carries the weight of one who’s seen some things and lived to tell about them.

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Al Pacino says he doesn’t remember much of the 1970s. So, The Godfather, Serpico, Scarecrow, Dog Day Afternoon, …And Justice For All are some of the greatest movies ever, let alone of the 1970s: all a blur. But unfortunately, he remembers Gigli and 88 Minutes, Revolution, Righteous Kill, and too many more all too well. He is a guy that always goes over the top, and sometimes it results in brilliance and other times, it causes Mr. Pacino to become a parody of himself. But is his legacy strong enough, and is Al in the middle of another comeback?

Heat's iconic diner meeting between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro's characters was a special moment for the two actors. Pacino and De Niro rose to prominence around the same time during the early '70s. De Niro became a star thanks to his work in Mean Streets and Taxi Driver and would go on to deliver incredible work in everything from Once Upon A Time In America to Jackie Brown. Pacino's breakout was The Godfather, and he has amassed an extraordinary run of classic performances from Serpico to Scarface and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Michael Mann's movie Heat had been simmering for a long time, with the filmmaker first conceiving of the idea in the late '70s. He even shot a prototype (of sorts) with TV movie L.A. Takedown, which adapted his Heat screenplay into a TV show pilot. Heat was weirdly snubbed for any major award,...

Every Al Pacino and Robert De Niro movie collaboration is special, especially since no list of greatest film actors of all time would be complete without De Niro or Pacino featuring on it somewhere. The two broke through in a major way in the early '70s with an almost embarrassing run of brilliant performances in classic films.
Pacino had Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico and The Panic in Needle Park while De Niro had Mean Streets, Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter. In the decades that passed, the two have appeared in their fair share of duds, but they've given some iconic turns too. While both played major roles in The Godfather Part II they didn't share any screen time. Movie fans would have to wait over two decades for that to come to pass with 1995's Heat. The duo has reteamed a couple of times since then too with some mixed results.

Michael Mann has a great script, and Warner Bros. has its head all the way up it.
Deadline has reported that a deal is close for a follow-up to Mann’s 1995 sleek L.A. cops-and-robbers epic, “Heat.” The project is based on the novel “Heat 2” that he and Meg Gardiner published last summer. Moreover, it looks like Adam Driver is in talks to play the criminal mastermind Neil McCauley, who was played by Robert De Niro nearly 30 years ago. The “Marriage Story” and “Star Wars” actor is, indeed, about a decade younger than De Niro was at the time, but “Heat 2,” following the path of the book, is both a prequel and a sequel. The novel was a number one New York Times bestseller.

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2023 don’t feature many blockbusters, but if we dig a little, I’m sure we can find some gems.
Perhaps the most promising items are on the TV side of things. Tiny Beautiful Things premieres on April 7 and stars Kathryn Hahn as “a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.” That will be followed by comedy Am I Being Unreasonable? on April 11 and two documentaries: high school football story Algiers, America (April 19) and Tupac Shakur piece Dear Mama (April 22).
The best TV candidate this month, however, is probably Saint X on April 26. This series, told via multiple timelines, “explores and upends the girl-gone-missing genre as it explores how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth.

Even if you’ve signed up for every streaming service out there, it can feel monumental when a title moves from one to another. In April, Netflix mainstay “New Girl” moves to Hulu; still streaming, but not where fans are used to finding it — like rearranging the furniture in your apartment and waking up surprised every day that the couch is over there now.
But what’s important is that “New Girl” lives on, now joining Hulu’s own TV and movie library and originals from Freeform, FX, National Geographic, and more. Later in the month, Leila Gerstein’s “Saint X” — based on the novel by Alexis Schaitkin — premieres with three episodes, recounting the story of a young girl found dead during a family vacation and the sister piecing it together years later. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzie, West Duchovny, Jayden Elijah, Bre Francis, Kenlee Anaya Townsend, Betsy Brandt, and Michael Park star.

Creed III has finally made its entrance into the ring, and the consensus has been pretty positive. The standout attention has been rightfully given to the new heavy of the franchise, Damian Anderson, portrayed by Jonathan Majors. Both Majors and director/star Michael B. Jordan have been promoting the film in a huge marketing blitz prior to release, and if you have seen the movie, you have seen how electric the pair can be as friends as well as enemies on screen.
It’s evident that the two had struck up a friendship and enjoyed working with each other on this film, and Variety now reports that the two find their collaboration is worth working together on more projects. Jordan would address the possibility of working with Majors again, saying, “We plan on it.” And Majors simply adds the comparison, “De Niro and Pacino.” Jordan would elaborate on the sentiment,...

Jonathan Majors and Michael B. Jordan are busy promoting “Creed III,” but the pair are hoping to work together again soon.
In “Creed III,” Jordan returns as Adonis Creed and stars opposite Majors, who portrays new antagonist, Damian Anderson. Ahead of the March 3 premiere, the two sat down with the New York Times to discuss the film, their individual careers and how they intend to continue to partner for future projects.
In his directorial debut, Jordan placed immense pressure on himself, which trickled down to his preparation in pitching Majors for the role. “I was all in my head, like, ‘Ok, what are the things I would want to hear? This dude can do a million different things right now. What’s going to make him take a chance on this actor-director who hasn’t directed [anything]?’” revealed Jordan.

Exclusive: Merritt Wever (Godless) is joining Michaela Watkins and Owen Painter as recurring guest stars on Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things, the Kathryn Hahn starrer in the works from Liz Tigelaar that’s based on Cheryl Strayed’s New York Times bestseller.
Wever plays Frankie, the resilient and resourceful single mother of Young Clare and Young Lucas, whose belief in abundance over scarcity, and putting oneself in the way of beauty, transforms her children’s life of poverty and becomes a touchstone for Clare (Hahn) as she takes up the mantel of the anonymous, revered advice columnist, Sugar, in the present.
Watkins portrays Amy, an emerging novelist and the decades-long best friend of Clare, whose decision to remain childless and pursue an artistic career has been shaped by a mother loss of her own — though a different kind than Clare’s. And while their friendship is very real,...

It's easy to forget this now, given their subsequent collaborations on films like "Righteous Kill" and "The Irishman," but when Al Pacino and Robert De Niro first sat down across from each other in "Heat" in 1995, it was a monumental movie moment. The two veteran actors, often cited as the greatest of their generation, had previously appeared in "The Godfather Part II" in 1974. However, De Niro was playing the father of Pacino's character in flashbacks and they never shared any scenes together. In "Heat," writer-director Michael Mann also kept them apart for most of the movie, but he understood the power of putting...

It is quite dramatic and brings up many thoughts and stories.Inspiration #2Filmzenék Tarr Béla Filmjeihez by Mihály VígWhile thinking about, writing, and preparing Lamb, I would listen to this soundtrack over and over again. Last Updated February 22: The results of the ninth annual Muahs Awards on February 20th stunned most observers with “Cruella” (Disney) “Being the Ricardos” (Amazon), and “Coming 2 America (Amazon) victorious over “Dune” (Warner Bros.) “House of Gucci” (MGM/UA) and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” (Searchlight/Disney). “Cruella” and “Being the Ricardos” (which isn’t an Oscar nominee) split period makeup and hairstyling, while “Coming 2 America” took contemporary makeup, hairstyling, and makeup effects.
This certainly shakes up the Oscar race, with “Cruella” now the favorite and “Coming 2 America” suddenly a stronger contender. However, period pieces tend to get greater recognition than contemporary films.
Makeup and hair designer Nadia Stacey did a bit of reverse engineering for creating Emma Stone’s ’70s punk look in the “Cruella” origin story. The idea was to work toward the eventual iconic two-toned black-and-white hairdo, black eyeshadow, liner, and red lips. Stacey...

Award-winning film producer Cynthia Hargrave, who produced Wes Anderson’s debut feature film, “Bottle Rocket,” passed away on June 9 from complications of systemic scleroderma. She was 64.
Hargrave was the first producer to leverage a Sundance Film Festival short film into a Hollywood studio feature with Anderson’s “Bottle Rocket” from 1993, starring Owen and Luke Wilson. In addition to producing the original short, she was a producer on the subsequent 1996 feature of the same name, now regarded as an indie classic.
“When Bob Wilson introduced me and his sons Owen, Luke, and Andrew to Kit Carson and Cynthia Hargrave thirty years ago, he introduced us to the pathway to the rest of our lives,” Anderson said in a statement. “We think of both of our old friends often and very fondly, and we send our condolences to all of Cynthia’s closest friends and family.”
Hargrave also executive produced Morgan J.

Al Pacino is widely regarded to be one of the greatest actors of all time. He’s one of the few thespians to have been awarded the Triple Crown of Acting. With his recent Oscar-nominated turn as Jimmy Hoffa in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, Pacino proved he’s still got it after years of movies like Righteous Kill and Jack and Jill tarnishing his reputation.

Remember, after “Heat” but before “The Irishman,” how crushingly disappointing it was to have Robert De Niro and Al Pacino re-teamed in the utterly forgettable “Righteous Kill”? “The War With Grandpa,” to be clear, is a much better movie than “Righteous Kill,” but anyone excited about a reunion of the stars of “The Deer Hunter” (De Niro and Christopher Walken) or “Mad Dog and Glory” (De Niro and Uma Thurman) should ratchet their expectations way, way down.
“The War With Grandpa” isn’t going to sully the reputation of any of these screen legends, mainly because it barely registers; it’s the sort of mildly amusing comedy that your brain begins flushing out before you even get to the closing credits.
De Niro stars as Ed, a grandfather to three kids, one of whom — Oakes Fegley (“Pete’s Dragon”) as Peter — has to surrender his room when grandpa comes to...

Sun Valley Film Festival founder Teddy Grennan was driving through central Virginia near his home in Charlottesville when he stumbled upon a feature news segment on NPR in which a rancher was discussing the use of pesticides and GMOs in cattle.

They are known as quiet, somewhat introverted figures despite their legendary status in the film industry. But Robert De Niro and Al Pacino find themselves, perhaps a bit uncomfortably, back in the spotlight as they participate in a publicity tour for director Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated crime epic "The Irishman", which opens in select theaters November 1 before streaming on Netflix, which financed the $160 million production. The film marks the third occasion in which the two stars appeared on screen together. The first occasion was Michael Mann's superior crime thriller "Heat". All but forgotten was the lambasted buddy cop movie "Righteous Kill". With both stars- and Scorsese- earning some of the best reviews of their careers for "The Irishman", the New York Times had writer Dave Itzkoff sit down with them while in London for a publicity jaunt. What follows was an interesting and often amusing interview.

Robert De Niro felt guilty.
It was the Italian premiere of “Righteous Kill.” The crowds stretched all along the red carpet on a September day in 2008, shouting his name and gripping stills of the actor in hopes of getting his autograph. It was a convulsion of unadulterated fandom, all served up amid a colonnaded public square in a bustling section of Rome. De Niro turned to his co-star, Al Pacino, and expressed regret that all these people were here to celebrate a movie that was little more than a standard-issue cop thriller, one that blistered rather than burnished their legacies. “I said, ‘This is a great reaction, but it would be nice if they were here for a movie that we really feel proud about. Next time we’ll do one we like,’” De Niro recalls telling his fellow actor.
