ITV Studios has added another French scripted label to its ranks.
L/Intruse will sit within Tetra Media Studio, the French production subsidiary of UK network ITV’s production and sales arm.
Leading the unit is Léa Gabrié, a Tetra Media Fiction producer who produced a series that shares the name of her new venture. L’Intruse is a new psychological thriller miniseries for France 2 that launches on March 5.
L/Intruse will sit within a group at Tetra also comprising Tetra Media Fiction, Beaubourg Audiovisuel, GoodCop, Macondo, Colette Productions, Gramma Prod and Tangaro Productions.
“Launching this label today is a fairly natural outcome,” said Gabrié. My past experiences, far from being contradictory, feed my perspective and my ambition is to develop projects that are popular but that speak to the heart.”
Thierry Lachkar, President of Tetra Media Studio, added: “The creation of the L/Intruse label is part of our philosophy: That of supporting our talents.

After the edgy crime comedy “The World Is Yours,” Romain Gavras is back with thriller “Athena.” Produced by Paris-based Iconoclast for Netflix, the ambitious, €15 million film (15 million) unfolds in the aftermath of the tragic killing of a young boy in what appears to be an act of police brutality. An all-out war sparks in an imaginary community called Athena. It’s the first French movie that Netflix is presenting in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
“Athena” tells the story of the boy’s three siblings, who are responding to the tragedy in different ways and clashing with one another. French star Dali Benssalah plays the older brother, Abdel, a devoted French soldier. Faced with an impossible moral dilemma, Abdel is called back from the frontline to help diffuse the all-out war that has been sparked by his younger brother Karim (Sami Slimane), who wants revenge. Athena becomes the backdrop...

MK2 Films has unveiled a clip of Rachid Hami’s “For My Country,” a politically minded family drama which will world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Horizons section.
A personal movie, “For My Country” is based on the life of Hami, whose brother tragically died in a French military school during a hazing rite.
Produced by Mizar Films, the searing drama tells the story of Aissa, a brilliant young officer of Algerian origin who dies during a fresher initiation ritual at the prestigious French military academy of Saint-Cyr. Refusing to take responsibility for his death, the French army insists to have Aissa buried in the Muslim plot of a suburban cemetery instead of the military one. Appalled by the obvious discrimination, Aissa’s older brother, Ismael, brings the family together to reclaim justice for Aissa.
Hami wrote in his director’s statement that he grew up feeling...

Arthouse platform Kabinett has snagged Argentine filmmaker Alejandro Fadel’s first purely experimental film, “The Enigmatic Element,” available since Oct. 10.
The genre is not quite a novelty to Fadel who is best known for his first two fiction films, “Los Salvajes” and “Murder Me, Monster,” both of which had their world premieres in Cannes. “While they had more conventional narrative plots, they had elements of experimental filmmaking in them,” Fadel asserted, adding: “‘The Enigmatic Element’ is more sensorial, more affecting.”
In this 40-minute fable, shot in the dead of winter in Southern Mendoza, three helmeted figures who either look like bikers or astronauts, wander around a stunning mountainside covered in snow. They communicate telepathically, their absurdist, existential dialogue extracted from the Argentine novel “La Libertad Total” (Total Freedom) by Pablo Katchadjian.
J. Crowe’s haunting electronic sound design, derived from the sounds of the frigid environment, complete the surreal, dystopian canvas.
