20th Television have dropped yet another teaser for Alien: Earth, their upcoming sci-fi horror series that will serve as a prequel to the first film in the franchise, revealing what happened back home on Earth two years before the events of the 1979 movie.
While we don't have an official premiere date, the series is slated to debut this Summer on FX on Hulu domestically and Disney+ via Star internationally. Also, with the Super Bowl right around the corner, there's a very real possibility that a full-length trailer could debut during the annual event, especially considering the Big Game is airing on Fox.
Plot details remain relatively under wraps, but the basic premise is as follows, "When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat."

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has been blogging a lot lately. We've been bowled over by some of his blunt criticisms of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon, but it hasn't been all about drama. A lover of all books, movies and TV, Martin also talked about some of the media he's been enjoying lately, including the canceled Prime Video show My Lady Jane.
Based on a book of the same name by author Jodi Meadows, My Lady Jane is about the life of Lady Jane Grey, who was technically queen of England for nine days before being deposed and eventually executed. Or...well, it's kind of about Lady Jane Grey if she lived in an alternate reality version of 15th century England occupied by shapeshifting people called Ethians.

Bill Skarsgrd had a monumental task on his shoulders when he was cast as Pennywise in the newest adaptation of the Stephen King novel It. Not only was It set to be one of the most anticipated R-rated horror movies of the 21st century, but Skarsgrd was taking on a role that Tim Curry had already made iconic in the cult classic television miniseries. Given how well Skargads performance in both It and its slightly underwhelming sequel were, it isnt surprising that he has succeeded in earning many other roles in high-profile horror films. To his credit, Skarsgrd's work in the twisty confinement thriller Barbarian, the Southern Gothic thriller The Devil All The Time, and the dark comedy Villains hasnt entirely been derivative of his role as Pennywise. However, Skarsgrd showed his range as a dramatic actor in the highly underrated fantasy drama Nine Days.

Exclusive: David Rysdahl (Fargo) has been tapped to star opposite Lily Sullivan in SOULM8TE, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse’s new film out of the M3GAN universe, Deadline has learned.
In the film from director Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother), Rysdahl plays a man who acquires an Artificially Intelligent android (Sullivan) to help him cope with the recent loss of his deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, the man inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
Dolan is directing after rewriting the original draft from Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), which was based on a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan. Sources tell us this film is a deal more risqué than M3GAN, falling in the tradition of ’90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.

Those who enjoyed the historical fantasy, humor, and alternative history elements of My Lady Jane, may enjoy these other series. Renegade Nell was an historical fantasy series about a young woman framed for murder who goes on an epic adventure. Belgravia: The Next Chapter included a major actor from My Lady Jane to fill the gap left by the show.
My Lady Jane was an excellent historical fantasy series that has left plenty of viewers craving more shows that showcased a similar style, addressed the same themes, or combined humor and history in such a compelling way. With an extraordinary lead performance from Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey, this period series reimagined the story of the Nine Days Queen as a magical tale featuring a world where some can take the form of animals. Adapted from a novel by Jodi Meadows, this Amazon Prime series brought to mind several other acclaimed TV shows.

My Lady Jane's story utilizes a major disease as a central plot thread, which is known as "The Affliction."
Loosely based on the real-life Nine Days Queen, Lady Jane Grey, My Lady Jane takes inspiration from the same-named book. It explores the real-world historical events from that time period with some additional magic and fantasy elements.
Included in that adventure is King Edward VI, who ruled over England from 1547 until his death in 1553. In My Lady Jane, the role is played by Jordan Peters.

I can't remember when I first heard the story of Lady Jane Grey. At first, I thought it was included in the historical notes of Scholastic's Royal Diaries book about Elizabeth I, but it's not. All I know is 1) I was young, probably not much older than 11, and 2) It freaked me out to no end. An unwilling young woman suddenly made Queen of England, and, within nine days, found guilty of crimes and executed by her cousins? It seemed supremely unfair. It wouldn't be until 2016 that the Nine Days Queen finally earned an opportunity for some justice with Bodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows' novel My Lady Jane, which has now been adapted as a delightful new series for Prime Video.

[This story contains spoilers from Fargo season five, episode four, “Insolubilia.”]
For the last five years, Fargo star David Rysdahl has been quietly turning in a number of quality performances, and now the audience and industry alike are catching on.
Beginning with Dead Pigs, Cathy Yan’s feature directorial debut premiered at 2018’s Sundance Film Festival garnering Rysdahl and the rest of the cast a special jury prize for ensemble acting. But despite the recognition and rave reviews, the foreign-language film failed to receive distribution until a year after Yan’s second feature, Birds of Prey, had been released by Warners in 2020. That same year, Rysdahl stood out again in another Sundance darling, Edson Oda’s Nine Days.
Everything would soon change for Rysdahl in 2022, when he was cast in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Black Mirror season six and Noah Hawley’s fifth season of Fargo. In the latter project, Rysdahl plays Wayne Lyon, a well-intentioned car salesman,...

Prepare to see Jon Hamm like you’ve never seen him before: sporting nipple rings and a cowboy hat while lounging in a hot tub. That’s just one of the head-scratching moments buried in the trailer for “Fargo” Year 5.
The trailer starts with two cops telling Wayne Lyon (David Rysdahl) that his wife isn’t who she says she is. It then shifts to clips of Juno Temple as Dot Lyon fighting and scheming for her life.
“Let me tell you what I see. I see a woman who outsmarted two kidnappers,” Richa Moorjani, who plays Deputy Indira Olmstead, says in the trailer.
As much fun as it is to watch Temple strategically place ice cubes and play with flamethrowers as she “Home Alones” her way through the season, the real star of this first trailer is Jon Hamm’s Sheriff Roy Tillman. The first time his character appears,...

Fans of the new DC Universe have been enjoying a lot of news lately. James Gunn's Superman: Legacy has cast David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, teasing fans what to expect for the next Man of Steel adventure. However, there's also been movement on the villainous front.
It's come via rumors suggesting Bill Skarsgård is up to play Lex Luthor. Admittedly, Skarsgård would be a tour de force as this villain -- something John Wick: Chapter 4 already showed with his portrayal of the aristocratic killer, The Marquis. However, such a move would really be predictable typecasting. Instead, the Dcu should actually leverage Skarsgård's talents as a hero and redefine what he's meant for on the big screen.

Like the other episodes in season 6, the "Mazey Day" cast helps keep Black Mirror's legacy strong as they deliver highly entertaining performances. First released in 2011, Black Mirror is a British anthology series that follows a similar format to the popular horror sci-fi show, The Twilight Zone, as it uses standalone stories to keep the audience engaged. While most of the stories are often set in a dystopia and have disturbing twists and shocking moments, the Netflix series has continued to receive critical acclaim for the unique way its creator, Charlie Brooker, explores the dark side of technology as well as several societal issues.
"Mazey Day" continues to follow this tradition as the episode sees a troubled star struggling to deal with the consequences of a hit-and-run incident while also being relentlessly harassed by the paparazzi. Although there aren't as many characters in this episode in comparison to the others...

With HBO Max rebranding itself as Max, viewers may expect specific changes to the streamer, which may be true to some extent. However, the one consistent thing with the streaming service is that it is constantly on the hunt for innovative ways to keep its subscribers engaged with new TV shows.

Harrison Ford was one of the last major movie stars to avoid doing television, but 2023 has seen him jump onto the small screen in a major way. In addition to starring alongside Helen Mirren in the “Yellowstone” prequel “1923,” he’s also taken on his first sitcom role in “Shrinking.” The therapy comedy gives Ford plenty of opportunities to show off his brand of curmudgeonly humor, but he also plays against type in several heartfelt moments — including a scene where he sings the Sugar Ray song “Every Morning” in the car alongside his co-star Jessica Williams.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Williams opened up about the surreal experience of singing carpool karaoke with Ford — and revealed the actor’s role in planning the scene.
“Oh, it was really fun — Sugar Ray with Harrison in the car,” Williams said. “They asked me for a list of songs and a lot of the...

A viral Law & Order: Svu clip featuring a young Winston Duke has prompted the actor to reminisce about his early role. Duke is best known for playing the character of M'Baku in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he originated in 2018's Black Panther and reprised in its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which came out this past November, in addition to his brief appearances in the crossover films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. M'Baku is the leader of the Jabari tribe who, at the conclusion of the sequel, has just become the King of Wakanda.
On TikTok, a fan shared a video of an episode of the Law & Order: Svu season 15 episode "Gridiron Soldier" that featured Duke in the role of Cedric, a teenage football player who was the victim of cruel hazing. A fan shared the video on Twitter saying "Wait, is that Winston Duke?...

This review originally ran following the film’s world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
Writer-director Andrew Semans’ deeply strange and truly traumatizing “Resurrection” has a lot in common with a typical stalker thriller. Rebecca Hall, no stranger to the sub-genre after “The Gift”, plays a successful executive at a pharmaceutical company, a single mother to a teenaged daughter, whose reality unravels when an abusive ex-husband (played by Tim Roth) unexpectedly re-enters her life.
There’s nothing that isn’t scary about that scenario, narratively familiar as it might be, and for a good, long portion of “Resurrection,” that’s all we need to know. Hall is a masterful performer, one of the best at conveying complex psychological trauma, and watching her confident persona crack at the mere sight of Roth at a conference, or 50 meters away at a department store, is an upsetting sight. We don’t need to know details of her pain.

After four years off the air, “Atlanta” returned to FX with a darkly comedic episode that reminded viewers to expect the unexpected.
As the show began to air on the east coast Thursday night, stars Donald Glover, Zazie Beetz, Lakeith Stanfield and Brian Tyree Henry posed together on the electric blue carpet at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Glover told Variety what thrilled him most about being reunited. “I think being away made me realize how much I missed hanging out and writing with them,” he said.
The Los Angeles screening followed the show’s SXSW premiere, but when the foursome linked arms and stood before the abstract images of their characters’ faces, a clearer picture of the show’s legacy came into focus. “Atlanta” itself is abstract art that paints with such broad strokes and bright colors that it’s impossible to characterize and leaves audiences slightly off-balance at every turn.

A tsunami of buzz and Oscar-telling indicators drop on Thursday, with the major guilds announcing award nominations. The Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), Producers Guild of America (PGA) and American Cinema Editors (Ace Eddies) all serve as critical barometers for the Academy Awards, especially in the race for best picture.
DGA has averaged four of their five nominees landing in the Oscars’ best director category, including last year with Aaron Sorkin (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”) getting bumped for Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”). The first-time directors’ category, with the exception of Jordan Peele for “Get Out” (2017), has gone on to get a nod at the Academy.
The PGA always provides some big blockbusters and Academy flare, which bodes well for either “No Time to Die” or “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The WGA has a lot of ineligibilities that won’t provide a strong enough indicator for the screenplay categories.

The number of feature directorial debuts from 2021 was even more significant than usual, and the Directors Guild of America has the daunting task of narrowing them down to just five. The DGA Awards are set to announce their nominees for the best directing in film and television on January 27, and much of the attention will be on which directors are selected for the First-Time Feature Film category. Could it be one of the most competitive lineups ever?

In writer-director Andrew Semens’s brilliantly twisty, disquieting psychological thriller, Resurrection, his first film since making his feature-length debut a decade ago, the central character, Margaret (an eerily transcendent Rebecca Hall) delivers a stunning, seven-minute monologue to an increasingly incredulous, increasingly discomfited younger colleague, Gwyn (Angela Wong Carbone). Shot in a bravura uninterrupted take by Semens and cinematographer Wyatt Garfield, the monologue relies on Hall’s utterly mesmerizing performance as the unraveling Margaret. It’s nothing less than a master-class in performance and engagement, drawing in viewers in not through visual effects, elaborate camera moves, or rapid-fire editing, but through Hall’s anguished delivery of Semens’s twisty, unnerving dialogue. That monologue lays out a key, life-changing moment in Margaret’s personal history,...

All of the presumed Oscar contenders are on the list including “Being the Ricardos” (Amazon Studios), “Belfast” (Focus Features), “C’mon C’mon” (A24), “Candyman” (Universal Pictures), “Coda” (Apple Original Films), “Dune” (Warner Bros), “Encanto” (Walt Disney Pictures), “House of Gucci” (MGM/United Artists Releasing), “Nightmare Alley” (Searchlight Pictures), “Parallel Mothers” (Sony Pictures Classics), “The Power of the Dog” (Netflix), “A Quiet Place Part II” (Paramount Pictures), “Spencer” (Neon/Topic Studios), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony Pictures) and “West Side Story” (20th Century Studios).

There’s no pretending on my part to have seen everything there was to see in 2021. I’ve still got a pretty long list of movies from the year that I would like to catch up on, including the other movie from director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Wheel Of Fortune And Fantasy, Hamaguchi’s was a name that was completely unknown to me before a couple of months ago, so it’s exciting to actually have another film of his on which to hang my high expectations, after being so captivated by Drive My Car. But there are others than have yet gone unseen, including end-of-year award contenders like Pedro Almodóvar’s Parallel Mothers, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, King Richard and Belfast, along with potentially fascinating (or disappointing) titles like Luca, Red Rocket, Citizen Ashe, Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar, A Choice Of Weapons: Inspired By Gordon Parks,...

Bringing earnest literary grandstanding to more or less the same plot as Pixar’s Soul, this is an awkward but still striking debut picture
Although arguably a smidge too ponderous and self-serious for its own good, Nine Days still represents a reasonably promising debut for its writer-director Edson Oda. This Brazilian-Japanese film-maker, who comes out of the world of advertising and developed this through the Sundance Lab (not always a great sign to be honest) has crafted a visually striking work that blends metaphysics, moral philosophy and melodrama into a potent movie cocktail. The result is flavoursome and distinctive, but probably didn’t need the paper umbrella of grad-school literary grandstanding, a maraschino cherry garnish of sentimentality, and dash-of-absinthe cray-cray.
It was probably sheer accident in terms of core plot device set-up, but Nine Days (which premiered at the Sundance film festival in January 2020), is very similar to Pixar animated feature Soul,...

The 31st annual Gotham Awards is a key stop in the awards season marathon, especially for lower-budget indies looking for some traction for the Oscars race. However, not every likely Oscar contender found itself up for Gothams, including “The Power of the Dog,” “Tick, Tick… Boom!” and “The Harder They Fall,” as they exceeded the $35 million budget limit for nominees.

Netflix’s “The Lost Daughter” and “Passing” went in as the two most nominated films with five apiece, but that didn’t automatically mean they were the front-runners. Categories at these awards are judged by panels of just a handful of industry insiders, often leading to unexpected, under-the-radar winners. You can’t count anyone out at an event where unique juries review all the nominated material.
Seersvp now for November 30: Film producers panel with ‘Being the Ricardos,’ ‘Belfast,’ ‘The Power of the Dog,’ ‘tick, tick… Boom!’
That means these awards can be quite idiosyncratic — they’re independent thinkers, and not...
