The phrase “they can’t all be winners” is presumably etched in every mirror on the Warner Bros. studio lot. It can be impossible to know a movie is going to suck until you make it, so all that’s left to do is move on (or write it off for a tax break). Sometimes, though, a movie is so bad that those subjected to it have no choice but to seek justice. Such as…
5 Don’s Plum
In 1995, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire claim they filmed Don’s Plum, a fairly plotless day in the life of a group of young jackasses, as a short film. When it was edited for distribution as a full-length feature, they used that claim as grounds to legally block its release, though one producer insisted it was because the largely improvised film made them look insufferable, which it absolutely does. The best summer camp movies aren't all coming-of-age tales, and the theme of heading out for some summer fun has been explored in nearly every genre. However, almost all summer camp movies see an ensemble cast of characters leaving their homes for a few short weeks to spend time with their peers. Summer camp movies also tend to have a special nostalgia factor for older viewers, while younger audience members are entertained by the general antics of the school-free season.
Although a large sector of summer camp movies feature younger casts going through the awkward stages of growing up, not all films focus on the campers. Some opt to follow the counselors' stories or explore the larger experience of going to camp. From genre tropes like inter-camp competitions or the threat of a camp's closure to complete subversions that see slashers on the loose or campers going against authority, there's a film for every viewer.

I could take or leave Jesse Eisenberg if I’m honest – he’s always been a low rate Michael Cera to me – but the combination of British comedy maestro extraordinaire Richard Ayoade and everyone’s favorite Russian dweller in the depths of human sorrow, Fyodor Dostoevsky, just about has me bursting in the trouser area. Ayoade’s adaptation of Dostoyevsky’s short story The Double, concerning a man who encounters his doppelganger who then goes on to take over his life, may not be quite the popular hit of his previous film Submarine, but it should still be great nonetheless.

Actors get paid too much, and we all know it. People like you and I work our fingers to the bone and barely have two pennies to rub together, while Hollywood’s A-listers regularly command upwards of eight figures per picture. I’m not doubting that they don’t work hard, but when you consider that the likes of Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Tom Hanks have all earned over $70 million from a single movie, and done so on more than one occasion, it starts to seem a little ridiculous.
Even Robert Downey Jr, former Hollywood pariah turned one of the most popular actors on the planet, has seen his salary skyrocket from $500,000 for the first Iron Man to $50 million from The Avengers in just four years, despite the latter being an ensemble piece. Look at this way, Tony Stark has roughly 37 minutes of screentime in the movie,...

Jesse Eisenberg has won a preliminary court case in his ongoing battle against Lionsgate and its horror film Camp Hell. The Social Network star is making moves to launch a lawsuit against the production company for promoting his small cameo in the movie as a starring role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a DVD for Camp Hell released last August featured Eisenberg's face and name in large letters above the title. Eisenberg sued the company in November for $$3 million in damages, claiming that producers are cashing in on his fame for a role he did only as a favor for a friend well before his Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Lionsgate responded to the suit with an anti-slapp (more)...

The Hunters
Stars: Chris Briant, Jay Brown, Steven Waddington, Tony Becker, Terence Knox, Dianna Agron | Written by Michael Lehman | Directed by Chris Briant
When an increasing number of people are reported missing, but no one makes any moves to investigate, detective LeSaint takes an interest and steps in. What he doesn’t expect is that his superiors don’t seem to be taking the situation very seriously and tell him that people go missing all the time. Ignoring his orders, he decides to investigate further until his leads take him to the mysterious and abandoned Fort Goben where a group of townsfolk spend their weekends hunting. Only their prey aren’t animals.
A co-production of France, Luxembourg and Belgium, from a first time writer and a first time director? And a director who also stars as the films lead no less? That usually doesn’t bode well for any film.

Stars: Dana Delany, Andrew McCarthy, Caroline London, Will Denton, Bruce Davison, Jesse Eisenberg, Connor Paolo | Written and Directed by George VanBuskirk
When reviewing a movie about a Christian summer camp and you are an atheist it’s quite an interesting prospect really. You have to try not to judge the characters for their beliefs and you have to try and watch it as a film where the events are affected by their religion, not your own beliefs. Or of course you can beat your chest as a disbeliever and pour scorn on the people in the movie for being silly for believing in something you do not. For me I went for what I saw was the fairer view and went with their belief system.
This is the story of ultra-Christianity in some respect. When Tommy goes to Christian camp he’s already having a crisis of faith.

Eyebrows were raised and expectations lowered at the prospect of a Scorsese-made 3D family movie – but now it all makes sense. This is less a kids' romp than a hymn to early cinema – sugar-coated with a junior steampunk adventure revolving around an Parisian orphan and his mystery automaton. We recently brought you news about "Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood headlining a remake of William Lustig's sleazy horror classic, "Maniac." It did seem strange that the sweet and gentle Frodo would be playing a perverse psychopath hunting women in his spare time, but we were — dare we say — kind of excited to see how he'd pull it off.
Alexandre Aja ("Piranha," "Haute Tension") is producing the remake that finds Wood as a creepy killer working at an antique mannequin shop (of course). He hunts for his victims through the Internet, and like the original character Frank, has massive mommy issues. The Daily Mail grabbed some stabby snaps of the actor in action (his victim is played by Genevieve Alexandra), so click on over to see Wood get his "Maniac" on.

The acclaimed, eccentric director of Women in Love and The Devils died this week, prompting tributes from the press and former colleagues
The big story
Ken Russell died this week, leaving behind a body of work that shocked and surprised, teased and titillated. He was, said Xan Brooks in our early news story a man of "wild drama, gaudy conflagrations and operatic flourishes", a "juggler of high and low culture who invariably courted controversy".
Russell's career path - from his documentary work for the 1960s BBC series Monitor, to the short films he made at home in later years - was hard to map. His most infamous and innovative works - The Devils, Altered States - flashed by in the wake of semi-hits Women in Love (which won him an Oscar in 1971) and Tommy. He was, said friends an "iconoclast" (Venessa Redgrave). "Fearless, eccentric and silly" (Melvyn Bragg). "Capable of...

Star of The Social Network is suing Lionsgate for misleading the public about his small role in horror film
From the cover of the DVD, it appears to be a newly released horror film starring The Social Network's Jesse Eisenberg, but anyone renting a copy of Camp Hell may be in for a different kind of shock to the one they shelled out for. The Oscar-nominated actor is suing studio Lionsgate for falsely advertising his small cameo, which he filmed in 2007 as a favour to friends, as a lead role in the low budget movie.
Eisenberg's $3m suit, which was filed at the Los Angeles superior court last week, points out that recent marketing for the film features a large photograph of the actor along with his name above the title. Anyone thinking about viewing Camp Hell would be led to believe that he is featured prominently, he argues.

Jesse Eisenberg has sued the distributors of a 2007 horror film for attempting to "deceive and mislead" viewers over the significance of his role. The 30 Minutes Or Less star made a brief cameo in low-budget picture Camp Hell as a favour to friends who were producing and directing, collecting just $$3,000 (£1,900) for his work. The 28-year-old has now filed a $$3m (£1.9m) lawsuit against Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for using his fame to promote the movie without his consent. The figure sought is more than the entire budget of Camp Hell. Eisenberg's face takes up almost all of the film's DVD cover and his name is written in bold above the title. "Although Eisenberg appears on screen for less than five minutes, the distributors of Camp Hell are now attempting to fraudulently (more)...

Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network", "30 Minutes or Less", "Zombieland") is suing Lionsgate Entertainment over a low-budget horror film entitled "Camp Hell", alleging that the film's DVD cover art makes him out to be the star of the film when in reality he has only a five-minute cameo. Jesse Eisenberg won't stand for this kind of horror.
The "30 Minutes or Less" star has filed a lawsuit Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for throwing his name and face all over the DVD cover of the low budget horror film, "Camp Hell," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Eisenberg is barely in the movie for five minutes -- he filmed his small role back in 2007 as a favor to friends, way before he was nominated for an Oscar for his starring turn as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network."
Hey, if you're a low budget filmmaker (and a distributor of low budget films), you'll do whatever you can to get people to watch your movie, but Eisenberg is saying "like hell" to the marketing campaign of "Camp Hell." He's suing for $3 million, which is a hell of a lot more than the movie's actual budget.
Apparently, Eisenberg is just trying to protect his fans,...

He's suing for $3 million, which is a hell of a lot more than the movie's actual budget.
Apparently, Eisenberg is just trying to protect his fans,...

Remember that random Lionsgate horror flick, Camp Hell, that featured The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg's face plastered all over the promo material? It seemed strange that the actor would take a downgraded role after his recent successes in David Fincher's film and in the horror-comedy Zombieland, but we were kind of tickled that he was giving some love to the horror community. It turns out that Eisenberg only had a cameo role in the movie where he appeared on screen for less than five minutes. The actor sued Lionsgate for $3 million dollars for trying to capitalize on his name and image. Eisenberg was paid $3,000 to play a camper named Daniel who has a few encounters with the devil. Camp Hope is known as a strict religious community run by a nefarious priest. Andrew...

It happens all the time. Little movies come out that feature now big-name stars who were nobody upon filming, and all of a sudden said star is pissed about one thing or another. Such is the case with Jesse Eisenberg, who's actually suing Lionsgate over how he's represented in the marketing for a flick called Camp Hell.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eisenberg has filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for allegedly turning his less-than-five-minute cameo in the horror flick Camp Hell into an above-the-title star turn. The actor is using the Los Angeles Superior Court to make a point. According to the complaint "Eisenberg is bringing this lawsuit in order to warn his fans and the public that, contrary to the manner in which Defendants are advertising the film, Eisenberg is not the star of and does not appear in a prominent role in Camp Hell."

Last week, The Social Network and Zombieland star Jesse Eisenberg filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment, distributors of the low-budget horror film Camp Hell, for falsely advertising that he’s the film’s leading man to capitalize on his newfound fame and popularity. Per the suit, Eisenberg agreed to shoot a small cameo for longtime friends producing the picture in 2007, but only worked one day, for a paycheck of roughly $3,000 and less than five minutes of screen time. “Eisenberg is bringing this lawsuit in order to warn his fans and the public that, contrary to the manner in...

And he’s willing to sue the producers of the film to prove it. In one of those “only in Hollywood” twists, Jesse Eisenberg, star of “The Social Network” and “Zombieland”, is none too pleased that the producers of “Camp Hell”, a 2010 moderately budgeted drama/horror movie that he co-starred in, is using his face and name to sell their movie. Even though, well, he Does co-star in the film. He’s not The star, of course, but he Is in the movie. Of course, if you were to see this newly minted poster for “Camp Hell”, you might think Eisenberg was the main star: Here’s the original, less Jesse Eisenberg-centric poster. (Notice that Eisenberg’s name is featured in the marquee, though quite a ways back from the film’s main leads. I suspect before he hit it big, Eisenberg’s agents, the same people suing the producers of “Camp Hell” now,...

To be fair, nothing in Jesse Eisenberg's recently filed lawsuit claims that he wishes he could take back his five-minute cameo in the low budget horror pic Camp Hell, about evil unleashing a bloodbath at a Christian youth retreat. (That's just a guess.) The actor is simply a stickler for truth in advertising and wants his fans to know he's "not the star of and does not appear in a prominent role in Camp Hell." As for co-stars Bruce Davison, Dana Delaney, and Andrew McCarthy... well, you're kinda stuck. Watch the unintentional horrors unfold in the trailer after the jump!

I'm willing to bet that when Jesse Eisenberg was cast in George VanBuskirk's Camp Hell (now on DVD from Lionsgate), he was beyond ecstatic. I'd even go as far as to say he called his parents and said, "Mom, Dad, guess what? I'm gonna be in another movie!" But now he's a big star, you know, the guy from Zombieland and The Social Network. And being a big star, it's damaging to your reputation to be featured in a crappy direct-to-disc title. I understand it stings, especially now, but Jesse is the one who accepted money, signed a contract and agreed to take part in the indie production. Yet, Eisenberg has decided to play the "douche card" and is suing both Lionsgate and Grindstone for featuring him on the cover even though he only cameos for about 5 minutes. So what? You can read all about the breaking news inside.

Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment are facing a lawsuit filed by Jesse Eisenberg over the DVD cover of the low budget horror film Camp Hell. The DVD cover art prominently features The Social Network stars name and face, which is apparently a major oversell in terms of Eisenberg.s involvement in the movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Eisenberg is suing Lionsgate and Grindhouse over the cover, .for allegedly turning his less-than-five-minute cameo in the horror flick Camp Hell into an above-the-title star turn." The complaint states that the actor is suing in order to warn his fans that, despite how it looks on the DVD cover, he.s not the star of the film, nor does he play a prominent role in the movie. He.s also looking for $3 million in damages. Considering that.s more than what it cost to make the movie, they may as well have hired...

How bad could the horror movie Camp Hell be? Well, actor Jesse Eisenberg is suing Lionsgate Entertainment over the movie, so it must not be too terrific.
The actor is seeking $3 million in damages, accusing the studio of capitalizing on his name to sell DVD copies of this critically panned supernatural thriller, which finds a group of children becoming possessed at a local community camp. The DVD cover offers a prominent image of Jesse Eisenberg, with only his name above the title, selling the film as a starring vehicle for the Oscar nominated actor.
Jesse Eisenberg only has a cameo in Camp Hell, clocking less than five minutes of screen time. And he was only paid $3000, which is considerably less than what he usually receives for his acting services. Because of this, Jesse Eisenberg has cited alleged misappropriation of right of publicity and unfair business practices.

For every rising actor or big name star, there is always a film in their past they would like to forget about. Something they did because it was work, they needed to pay rent and they at least wanted to keep working. It's called paying your dues, and while Jesse Eisenberg isn't trying to hide that he's had his own share of pre-fame oddities, he'd rather not be the face of the low rent horror movie "Camp Hell," and he's sending his lawyers after the filmmakers.

File under, "Dude, I don't think anyone cares and don't you have enough money, anyway?" Actor Jesse Eisenberg is reportedly peeved that it appears he is the star of Camp Hell , released direct-to-dvd in August. Once upon a time, before he was an Oscar-nominated actor, Jesse Eisenberg starred in the schlocky horror movie Camp Hell. It was a favor to some friends and the actor worked one day on the film for $3000. Jesse Eisenberg has officially unfriended Camp Hell. The Oscar-nominated actor sued Lionsgate Entertainment for $3 million last week, accusing the studio of trying to capitalize on his good name by making him look like the star of the widely panned horror flick, when all he did was shoot a quick cameo. Wow, why doesn't he want to be attached to Camp Hell? It sounds amazing! (If you adore schlock and Andrew McCarthy, that is.) The movie is about a group of suburban Christian kids who go away to Bible camp and end up plagued by a demonic curse after a camper commits "a sin of the flesh," per the lawsuit filed Nov. 23 in Los Angeles Superior Court. (Jeff Nichols, 2011, Us) Michael Shannon, Jessica Chastain, Tova Stewart. 121 mins.
After a year-long disaster-movie onslaught, apocalypse fatigue could well be setting in, but this one's worth the extra effort – particularly since it's less about the end of the world than the threat of it. That plays large in the mind of Shannon's modern-day Midwestern Noah, who sets about building his underground ark. His wife worries more about his mental health, and their day-to-day problems. Brilliantly constructed and performed, it's a domestic saga infused with haunting, unnamed dread.

Title: Camp Hell (Aka Camp Hope) Directed by George VanBuskirk Starring: Bruce Davidson, Dana Delany, Andrew McCarthy and Jesse Eisenberg Running time: 99 minutes, Rated R Camp Hope is place where Christian children can be amongst each other to find friendship and learn more about their religion. It’s also a place where dark and evil things lurk and attack those children who are questioning their faith and don’t adhere to the strict rules of the camp. Hate is a strong word. The film Camp Hell was released as Camp Hope when it hit a small number of theaters last year. Presumably, the filmmakers decided that for the DVD release it would be better to capitalize on the horror aspects of the film rather than the religious, as well as on the newfound fame of Jesse Eisenberg after successful turns in Zombieland and The Social Network. Hence why the DVD package features “Camp Hell” in large red letters looming above Eisenberg’s face, despite the fact that he only appears in a few short scenes. Yet those few short scenes provide more chills than the rest of the film, which is a spiritual horror-by-numbers. It’s not horrible, but it’s nothing exciting either.

My curiosity certainly peaked when I learned of Jesse Eisenberg taking part in another genre offering; theres something quite entertaining about the quirky young man, and Im always up to see what hell bring to the screen. While not as funny as Shaun of the Dead from writers/stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, nor as good as Superbad from director Greg Mottola, the film hits plenty of the right notes, where if you’re not laughing, your smiling. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy
Your Highness
Not quite Cheech & Chong in Medieval Times, and for some that was the deal killer. Yet Danny McBride gets off plenty of great lines and Natalie Portman is stupid fine, making for a decent effort, all things considered.

Despite what I say in the following paragraphs; I enjoyed Camp Hell. A lot. Does it have some flaws? Yes. Is it what the title suggests? No. It doesn't even have many of the elements that make a great horror movie. What it does have is an interesting story, endearing characters, quality acting and a narrative that, while slow at times, pulled me so far into the drama that I didn't care that the name was deceiving or that, while it did have some scary moments, it was almost unrecognizable as a horror film.
Another misleading thing about Camp Hell is that, despite the DVD cover art, it does not star Jessie Eisenberg. He plays a bit part that is an integral piece of the story, but a bit part nonetheless. It's always fascinating to see trailers for films like Camp Hell. It's got a bizarre cast, including Bruce Davidson, Andrew McCarthy (!), Dana Delaney (mmmm...), and then, the curveball -- Jesse Eisenberg. Yep, the movie-Zuckerberg zombie slayer, himself. The trailer plays like a combination of Jesus Camp meets The Rite, which I'd be down with (even though The Rite featured way more misses than hits), except that it's going direct to DVD and it feels like a direct to DVD movie. The thing that stands out the most, honestly, is that Eisenberg looks like he might actually be acting, instead of just stammering through his lines and playing Jesse Eisenberg. Here's a little synopsis for you:
"Camp Hope is a place where Christian children come together to share and study their faith. Deep in the woods and far from distraction, they learn how to better serve their maker and the perils of tangling with the Devil.
