Go, go, Power Rangers — all the way to Disney+. At least, that is the hope of the Mouse House, which is currently eyeing an adaptation of the Mighty Morphin' superheroes for the small screen. According to a new, exclusive report from TheWrap, it is said that Percy Jackson and the Olympian showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, showrun, and produce a new live-action series for Disney+.
The duo are hoping to reinvent the franchise for a new generation of fans while also still engaging with those — mostly adults — who grew up with and already love the world of Hasbro and Saban's "Super Sentai" (as they were originally known in Japan). Hasbro, the company that now owns the rights to the characters, will also be producing the series.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks with Disney+ to helm a live-action Power Rangers television series. The first entry in Saban's Power Rangers franchise was the original 1990s TV series The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, which followed a group of five teenagers with attitude who gain the ability to morph into superpowered heroes. With 30 seasons of continuity on TV, the last attempt to reboot Power Rangers in 2017 failed at the box office.
Now, TheWrap has reported that Disney+'s Percy Jackson team is being eyed for aPower Rangers live-action series. Based on Rick Rordian's fantasy children's books, Steinberg and Shotz have led Percy Jackson and the Olympians since its premiere in 2023. The award-winning Greek mythology series has been praised for its faithfulness to Riordan's work, and has already been renewed for season 3 ahead of season 2's late 2025 premiere.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action “Power Rangers” series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Hasbro will produce the series, which will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.
The ’90s TV show, originally called “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” was inspired by a Japanese children’s show, “Super Sentai” (even using footage from that show). It featured five teenagers who gain the ability to “morph” into superheroes known as the Power Rangers, complete with their own mech fighters. A film version of the series that starred most of the original cast was released in 1995, with a second one in 1997 (this one featured only a few original cast members).

Card treatments for Magic: The Gathering (Mtg) sets have always played a crucial role in not only enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the card game, but also the collectibility and therefore player engagement as well. With many of these special treatments only available in limited quantities for each set, the long-term value of cards with treatments tends to be higher, and often the most sought-after Mtg cards are those with a treatment applied. Given that Magic: The Gathering is making a highly awaited return to one of the game's most popular settings next month, it's only natural that an entirely new card treatment is making its debut. With Tarkir: Dragonstorm, Wizards of the Coast is returning two beloved cycles that each feature stunning art, one of which will contain the new treatment.

Saturday Night Live went for the obvious in its cold open: Donald Trump’s Oval Office meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, in which the president and Vice President Jd Vance berated the Ukrainian leader as he tried to argue that Russian President Vladimir Putin could not be trusted.
Making a cameo appearance was Mike Myers, appearing as a chainsaw-waving Elon Musk.
“Donald, what are you doing in my office? You know I am the president now, right?” Myers are Musk asked. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Maybe not? Maybe not?”
The sketch opened with Zelensky sitting in the Oval Office with Trump (James Austin Johnson) and Vance (Bowen Yang), as well as a catatonic Secretary of State Marco Rubio (Marcello Hernandez).

After a successful 2024 led by Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive is working on a Aaa game based on one of Hasbro’s biggest franchises. The easy assumption is that it will be Dungeons & Dragons, but we think that would be a mistake.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has already set the gold standard for D&d video games, so it makes little sense to compete in the same space. Instead, Hasbro should consider Magic: The Gathering, a franchise with rich lore, diverse settings, and a built-in fanbase. And think about it, Magic would be a perfect match for Saber’s Swarm Tech.

Magic: The Gathering is a collectible trading card game that's been popular since the early 1990s, where players take on the roles of powerful Planeswalker wizards and do battle against each other. The game currently has 50 million players around the world. And now, Hollywood wants to make a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This is a joint venture between Hasbro Entertainment, which owns Magic: The Gathering; and Legendary Entertainment, which is behind the new swath of Dune movies and TV shows, as well as the newer Godzilla/Kong movies and the upcoming Minecraft movie. They know their way around a franchise.
Per THR, the plan is to start with a Magic: The Gathering movie before expanding to TV. Adapting Magic to the screen is different from adapting, say, Dune, which is based on a book that has a story with a beginning, middle and end.

Magic: The Gathering is getting the film and TV adaptation treatment courtesy of Hasbro and Legendary Entertainment.
Magic: The Gathering is getting a rather expansive adaptation that will span a live action film and a ‘television universe’. Even if you’ve never built your own deck before, you’ve likely heard of the collectible card game. It’s a phenomenon, having generated over a billion dollars in 2023 alone.
As such, Hasbro and Legendary plan to capitalise on the clear interest in Magic: The Gathering, adapting the game into a series of projects.
The report at Deadline states that the film will come first, followed by a range of television projects and more ‘content’ (nothing gets us more excited than the promise of ‘content’) to come.
Beyond collecting cards, building a deck and then employing strategies and skill to beat your opponent, Magic: The Gathering does have a story of sorts:...

The first footage from The Stolen Child, a medieval fantasy film inspired by Celtic mythology, has just been revealed. From the looks of it, this movie blends the epic scale of The Lord of the Rings with the atmospheric beauty of The Green Knight.
Written and directed by Sebastian McKinnon, who also works as an illustrator for Magic: The Gathering, this project is a long-time dream for the filmmaker. Thanks to Variety, we now have a full preview of what’s shaping up to be a breathtaking film.
The story of The Stolen Child began years ago when Sebastian and his brother Benjamin went backpacking across Scotland. Immersed in the myths and legends of Celtic folklore, they came up with the idea for their own fantasy world.
The film is set in a realm where humans and faeries coexist, but tragedy strikes when the human king and queen are suddenly killed.

In addition to continuing Lorcana’s ongoing narrative, Archazia’s Island is also set to introduce some exciting new Glimmers to the game, some for characters that have yet to appear in Lorcana.
Archazia’s Island will focus heavily on Disney’s pet characters, so fans of the media giant's many animal protagonists or sidekicks will likely be interested in this set. The set’s tagline, “learn new tricks,” also has players speculating that some new mechanics will be revealed in the set. Spoilers for new...

A new Godzilla card game is coming out this year. The iconic kaiju Godzilla has found increased popularity in recent years thanks to the Oscar-winning Godzilla: Minus One and the popular Hollywood blockbuster Monsterverse movies made by Legendary Pictures. With a sequel to Godzilla: Minus One on the way and the Monsterverse continuing to chug along, it seems like Godzilla's stock has never been bigger—which is saying something given that the monster stands over 400 feet tall.
Bushiroad has announced new details about its Godzilla Card Game, which was quietly announced late last year. The new card game will be released simultaneously in Japanese and English, with a planned release date of July 2025. The initial game will feature two starter decks and a new booster pack line. Magic: The Gathering may have stealthily revealed an upcoming collaboration with the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. In 2025, Wizards of the Coast will release seven Magic: The Gathering sets, beginning with Innistrad Remastered in late January. Wizards has revealed six of the seven sets so far. Innistrad Remastered, Aetherdrift, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, and Edge of Eternities will all take place in various official Magic: The Gathering planes, while the Final Fantasy franchise and Marvel's Spider-Man will be represented in Universes Beyond sets. Also in the works is a third Universes Beyond set, featuring an unknown IP.
A new theory suggests that this unknown Magic: The Gathering set will feature the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. The theory notes that Wizards has been teasing upcoming Magic sets via Daily Deal sales on Magic: The Gathering Arena, with the last daily deal referencing Avatar: The Last Airbender. A new kind of magic spell is coming to Dungeons & Dragons in 2025, with a possible tease appearing in the recently released Worlds & Realms book. Dungeons & Dragons has big plans for 2025, with a new Monster Manual coming out next month, followed by a new Starter Set featuring its revised Fifth Edition rules and several other books. While most of D&d's focus this year will be on further establishing and strengthening its new ruleset, there's also some new content coming in the form of a "new kind of magic" appearing in one of this year's later releases.
At the end of 2025, Wizards of the Coast will release a pair of books focused on the iconic Forgotten Realms, the best-known of its many campaign settings. The Forgotten Realms Player Guide will provide players with new subclasses, backgrounds, feats, and spells, as well as a "new type of spell" that players can use.

Orcs have long been seen as one-note villains in a lot of fantasy media, but Dungeons & Dragons’ latest revision is attempting to change this long-standing trope. As any fantasy fan knows, the genre can suffer from a (somewhat ironic) lack of creativity at times. Even today, many fantasy creators cling tightly to genre conventions established by the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien, which makes any changes, like DnD’s new orcs, feel threatening or unprecedented to some.
That said, DnD is far from the first fantasy property to challenge genre conventions surrounding a traditionally villainous race. Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel, Snuff, for instance, challenges readers to reconsider the mistreatment of goblins. With the growing popularity of Dungeons & Dragons in the last decade, it’s understandable that Wizards of the Coast would want to modernize some of the game’s elements, like the way orcs are depicted.

Love them or hate them, Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond collaborations seem like they’re here to stay, and these franchises would be a good fit for future sets. Some Universes Beyond collaborations like Fallout and Doctor Who proved that Magic isn’t just restricting itself to fantasy series that are in line with its original aesthetic. The three upcoming Marvel sets - previewed with a Secret Lair this year - also show that some of the biggest IPs in current pop culture aren’t off the table.
With there seemingly being no upper limit on the types of IPs Magic: The Gathering is able to collaborate with, there are a lot of exciting possibilities for future sets. Roguelike deckbuilders is one of the most popular genres of indie games, with the likes of Balatro and Slay the Spire dominating it. Of course, it's such a popular genre for a good reason, as the engrossing gameplay loop, unlocking new cards, and oftentimes incredible visuals have helped cement its place at the top of the "one more go" category of games.
In fact, some of the best roguelike deckbuilders are also the best indie games of all time. They're worth playing for both newcomers to the genre looking for a great starting point and those who have played practically every game in the genre. However, there are far too many roguelike deckbuilders to play them all, so it's important to narrow down the selection. Luckily, there is an easy top 10 roguelike deckbuilders that everyone should check out.

Wizards of the Coast just released its December 2024 update to the banned Magic: The Gathering cards list. The announcement was made on December 16 and the update goes into effect immediately, impacting only a few play formats. Although a handful of cards appeared in the update, it makes significant changes to certain decks. The list also includes the ban of a specific special card that went unacknowledged in play formats for over a year.
The update from Wizards of the Coast not only includes the ban of certain Mtg cards, but it also announces the unban of some, bringing them back into legal play. Like the newly banned cards, only a few cards have been brought back and are allowed to be played again. This only affects one format, however, but may not see any changes in the future due to the way the specific format works. With this interesting update,...

Recently, Magic: The Gathering has announced a new set called Aetherdrift and with it a new name for one of the previous Planes in existence. Kaladesh has been renamed, and many players might be wondering why. The developers have given us multiple reasons, one as the in-universe explanation and one as the real-world reason. Both of them are meaningful in their own way, which players can read about down below.
The name change in Magic: The Gathering is spurred on by the Aetherdrift set, which is going to be a racing set with ten teams from many different planes. The Ghirapur Grand Prix is set to be the main event of this set, and it is now a legal event that various teams from all over are taking part in. It’s a fun, new addition to the lore, and one that is central to the change of Kaladesh to Avishkar.

Magic: The Gathering has renamed one of its iconic planes, with Kaladesh now called Avishkar. First introduced in 2015, Kaladesh is best known as the original home of iconic planeswalker Chandra Nalaar. Kaladesh, which drew inspiration from real-world India, is notable for having a high concentration of aether, a magic energy often used in summoning creatures. The plane has appeared in many Magic: The Gathering sets over the years, including the Kaladesh block of sets and the upcoming release Aetherdrift. However, in its next appearance, the plane will have a new name.
Wizards of the Coast announced this week that the plane will be called Avishkar moving forward. "We knew we had heard feedback at the release of the original Kaladesh set that that name carried unfortunate connotations in some dialects of the Hindi language, and we wanted to ensure our return to the plane was done thoughtfully and respectfully," Wizards...

Fans of Fantasy Flight Games will be extremely familiar with the concept of the Living Card Game, an idea that takes the deckbuilding and customisation aspects of a Trading Card Game, but rather than selling products to customers in random boosters or similar, Living Card Games are sold in preset packs or bundles, each of which contains a specific list of cards. Marvel Champions: The Card Game is now one of the most well-established Living Card Games out there, and for some, it is without doubt the most exciting.

Like any Magic: The Gathering game, Arena is about building and using the right deck. Both casual and competitive players can enjoy the game as there are plenty of options for different play styles.
Options for card types and deck-building include creatures, spells, enchantments, and artifacts. These card types can be built into various deck formats, such as Standard, Historic, and Draft. Magic: The Gathering Arena has a lot of customizability, allowing players to refine their decks. For Standard players, it's common to focus on cards from the most recent sets, but a few Foundations cards consistently perform well.

A video game division of Wizards of the Coast has announced plans to release a new tabletop RPG focused on the new IP Exodus instead of Dungeons & Dragons. Wizards of the Coast is best known as a tabletop game developer and a leader in the trading card game and tabletop RPG industries. While it actively publishes and develops Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards also has a number of video game studios under its umbrella as a result of its parent company Hasbro's desire to make headway into the industry, including a sci-fi video game called Exodus.
Now, Exodus developer Archetype Entertainment has announced that it will also publish a tabletop RPG called Exodus Travelers Handbook, as detailed on the official Exodus website. Details about the new tabletop RPG are currently scarce, but it was designed by BioWare veteran James Ohlen, the creative force behind the Exodus video game.

Ever since the first franchise collaboration with The Walking Dead in 2020, Magic: The Gathering has received an ever-growing catalog of crossovers thanks to its Universes Beyond line. Ranging from Secret Lairs to the recent fully draftable playsets, each collaboration has plenty of beautiful art or engaging mechanics that make them worthwhile. Magic: The Gathering has received a boom in new players thanks to recent collaboration efforts, but has long-time Commander players feeling left behind. Starting as an experimental fringe format in 2011, Commander has grown to become one of the most popular and profitable formats in Magic: The Gathering today, benefiting greatly from its ease of access and social focus.
