I fear the real Patch Adams may watch Kinda Pregnant, hang up their stethoscope, and finally admit that laughter is not the best medicine. That’s how bad this Amy Schumer movie is, a jaw-droppingly unfunny, utterly misguided, and cringy comedy candidate to be one of the worst films in 2025.

And the year is only a little bit over five weeks old.

Why would Schumer star in a film like this? It’s hard to say, but we know this comedy fails to utilize her talents as she sleepwalks through the role she wrote, which should be tailored to her life experiences. This suggests a disconnect between the studio and the creative team behind her.

Starting in early January, comic Gary Gulman settled in at the off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York for a month-long residency performing his new one-man show Grandiloquent.

Gulman is known for his stand-up specials, such as In This Economy?, Great Depresh, Boyish Man, It’s About Time and Born On 3rd Base. He was a two-time finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and also co-starred in the Hulu series Life and Beth alongside Amy Schumer. Born On 3rd Base, Gulman’s most recent comedy special released on Max in 2023, saw him depart from his usual sense of humor to delve deeper into his childhood growing up in Massachusetts and his struggles with depression.

The special, taped during two sold-out nights at the iconic Comedy Cellar in New York City, showcases Baker at two very different moments—before and after becoming a mom. The contrasting performances bring a fresh angle to her sharp and honest comedy.

Through her stand-up, Baker dives into her personal journey, sharing hilarious and sometimes biting takes on everything from deciding to have kids to the unglamorous sides of childbirth and parenthood.

Perhaps this has to do with the lengthy history of negativity towards Schumer, for various reasons. She has certainly had a contentious relationship with her audience (who she refuses to be photographed with in most instances), frequently fueled by social media, that great catalyst of catastrophe.

In the film, Schumer plays Lainy Newton, a newly single teacher who wants to be a mother. So, she understandably gets a little jealous after discovering her best friend, Kate (Jillian Bell), is pregnant, leading Lainy to tell a slight fabrication… in the form of donning a fake baby bump. Her deception is complicated by the fact that she meets her dream man (Will Forte) while acting like she’s with child.

“Do you ever tell, like, such a big lie you don’t know how to get out of it?” she asks in the trailer. Lainy commits to her fabrication, though, going along with the gestation of her fake baby and new relationship at the same time.

Now that 2024 has come to a close, it’s official, Netflix once again handed out the most cancellations in the calendar year – though at this point, I don’t think anyone will find this surprising. While the streaming platform has gotten better as the years have gone by in giving shows final seasons and the chances to establish themselves with audiences, the streaming platform continues to have some of the biggest cancellation rates in the business and 2024 was no different.

In total, Netflix canceled 16 shows in 2024 while also handing six additional shows their walking papers with final season orders which are about as close to cancellations as you can get the only difference being that those lucky six shows will get to actually wrap up their runs with proper sendoffs. So when you combine the two groups, Netflix decided to end a whopping 22 shows in 2024 be it by canceling them directly or ordering final seasons.

The world of entertainment is not just a fairyland for actors, directors, and screenwriters to unleash their creativity but it is also a highly competitive field where projects often end up dead before they can even take flight. While one cannot miss what they have never seen, it certainly hurts when a project is taken off air due to one or the other reason. And that is exactly the case for Life & Beth and the millions of fans of the series.

Written, directed, executive produced and starring Schumer, Life & Beth follows Beth (Schumer), whose life looks pretty great on paper. Impressive to everyone she grew up with, she makes a good living as a wine distributor. She’s in a long-term relationship with an attractive, successful guy and lives in Manhattan. But when a sudden incident forces her to engage with her past, her life changes forever.

Hulu has canceled the dramedy, created by and starring Amy Schumer, after two seasons. The second (and now final) installment of the show debuted on the Disney-owned streamer in February.

The series follows Beth (Schumer), a woman with “a cool job, a great apartment” and a boyfriend (Kevin Kane) “who’s a New York eight,” as she says in the show’s first episode, who comes to realize how dissatisfied she is with her life. After moving back to her childhood home on Long Island, she considers restarting her life and develops a relationship with a local guy (Michael Cera).

Looks like Det. Bruno has proved his worth to Capt. Benson: Kevin Kane has been promoted to series regular at Law & Order: Svu, our sister site Deadline reports.

Bruno’s character debuted in Season 24, when Benson’s team became involved in a case under the jurisdiction of Bronx Svu, where Bruno then worked. The character eventually joined Liv and the gang in Manhattan, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Kane was a recurring cast member who last appeared in Season 25’s Episode 13.

Exclusive: NBC’s Law & Order: Svu has added Juliana Aidén Martinez (Griselda) to its Season 26 cast as a new detective; Kevin Kane has been upped to a series regular as Det. Terry Bruno.

The new season begins Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Kane debuted in the role in Season 24, however, he has played other minor characters in seasons 9, 13, 17 and 20. He last appeared last season in episode 13.

Jennifer Lawrence's production company Excellent Cadaver will produce Apple Original Films' new acquisition The Wives. The Wives is a mystery drama reminiscent of The Real Housewives, written by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley. Lawrence's company also has projects in the pipeline, including collaborations with Amy Schumer and Martin Scorsese.

Apple Original Films has acquired the Jennifer Lawrence-fronted The Wives, which the Don't Look Up star will produce alongside her producing partner, Justine Ciarrochi, for Lawrence's production company, Excellent Cadaver. It will mark the company's third feature after 2022's Oscar-nominated (for Brian Tyree Henry's supporting performance) Causeway and 2023's box office hit No Hard Feelings. As per a report by Variety, very little is currently known about The Wives, but it's said to be reminiscent of the argument-laden The Real Housewives, but with a murder mystery twist.

The actor who plays Fred Rococo on HBO’s comedy Somebody Somewhere told the New York Times that he is developing a detective show called Shorty Big Time. In fact, he’s currently scouting locations in Palm Springs for the project, which still needs a buyer.

But “nobody’s getting killed” in this series, promises Hill, who went on to share this sample plotline: “Someone took somebody’s teeth at the nursing home, and they call me in. Or the gay rodeo’s in town, and the chaps are missing. Just fun and campy. We need it. Things are rough out there.”

Hostel is coming to television.

Paul Giamatti has closed a deal to star in a Hostel TV series with the franchise’s Eli Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss all returning for the project from Fifth Season, the studio behind Apple TV+’s Severance.

The Hostel show, which is currently in development and does not yet have a platform attached, is described as being a “modern adaptation” and an “elevated thriller” that’s also a “reinvention” of the horror franchise that launched in 2006 and spawned two sequels.

Roth and Briggs will pen the script, with the former set to direct. Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will all executive produce the series.

The original movie revolved around three backpackers who were headed to a Slovak city that promised to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaited them.

Giamatti will star in a key role, with character details under wraps.

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer have scrapped a long-in-the-works but never fully realized project in which they were set to play sisters.

Schumer broke the news in a new interview with Variety, saying, “I don’t think it will ever happen. It was just like, life kept going. My family was going through a rough time. I don’t want to say any more than that.”

Lawrence added: “Now that we’re older, a sister comedy might not resonate as much. But we have every intention of working together.”

This was in March, when she was filming on the street in Brooklyn for her upcoming movie “Kinda Pregnant,” a comedy about a woman who pretends to be knocked up for attention. In one take, Schumer emerged from a subway station while answering a phone call — and was interrupted by a stranger shouting at her from the sidewalk: “Fuck you, Amy Schumer! You’re a Zionist! You love genocide!”

Disruptions of the four-letter variety aren’t unusual in a raucous place like New York, though they’re usually less pointed. Schumer didn’t break character, refusing to stop working as the woman carried on. The actress finished the scene finally, packed up her stuff and went home to her husband and their 4-year-old son.

“It didn’t even raise my heart rate,” Schumer says over brunch at a cozy Brooklyn Heights tavern a couple days later.
