I fear the real Patch Adams may watch Kinda Pregnant, hang up their stethoscope, and finally admit that laughter is not the best medicine. That’s how bad this Amy Schumer movie is, a jaw-droppingly unfunny, utterly misguided, and cringy comedy candidate to be one of the worst films in 2025.
And the year is only a little bit over five weeks old.
Why would Schumer star in a film like this? It’s hard to say, but we know this comedy fails to utilize her talents as she sleepwalks through the role she wrote, which should be tailored to her life experiences. This suggests a disconnect between the studio and the creative team behind her.

The story follows Lainey (Amy Schumer), whose best friend since childhood, Kate (Jillian Bell), becomes pregnant.

Amy Schumer is convinced “everybody’s a pervert” after learning her Saturday Night Live “Porn Teacher” sketch is the show’s most viewed skit on YouTube.
The actress and comedian made a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, where the host reminded her of the stat. “Can you believe that? The most viewed SNL sketch of all time is me and Kyle Mooney, called ‘Porn Teacher,'” she responded.
The sketch aired on an Oct. 10, 2015 episode during season 41, which saw Schumer host SNL for the first time. The skit featured a precocious student (Aidy Bryant) repeatedly interrupting a porn shoot starring a teacher (Schumer) and her student (Kyle Mooney).
“I want to bring it back for the 50th, where I’m like a realtor or something,” Schumer told Howard Stern. “I was shocked to hear that and then you’re like, ‘Of course, everybody’s a pervert.'”

Starting in early January, comic Gary Gulman settled in at the off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York for a month-long residency performing his new one-man show Grandiloquent.
Gulman is known for his stand-up specials, such as In This Economy?, Great Depresh, Boyish Man, It’s About Time and Born On 3rd Base. He was a two-time finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and also co-starred in the Hulu series Life and Beth alongside Amy Schumer. Born On 3rd Base, Gulman’s most recent comedy special released on Max in 2023, saw him depart from his usual sense of humor to delve deeper into his childhood growing up in Massachusetts and his struggles with depression.
Although critics have assured that Grandiloquent, as a performance, is funny, they note that Gulman delivers a previously unseen – and surprising – poignancy to his work.

Rosebud Baker is gearing up to release her second comedy special, The Mother Lode, on Netflix this February 11, Deadline reveals. The special, taped during two sold-out nights at the iconic Comedy Cellar in New York City, showcases Baker at two very different moments—before and after becoming a mom. The contrasting performances bring a fresh angle to her sharp and honest comedy.
Through her stand-up, Baker dives into her personal journey, sharing hilarious and sometimes biting takes on everything from deciding to have kids to the unglamorous sides of childbirth and parenthood.
She doesn’t shy away from the tough stuff either, opening up about struggles like infertility, miscarriage, and postpartum experiences.
The special, which Baker also directed and produced, was filmed over two years to give a full picture of her journey. She explained her goal was to make people laugh and feel less isolated, no matter their relationship to parenthood.

Taped months apart during two sold-out nights at the Comedy Cellar in New York City, the special intercuts between Baker before and after giving birth. The Mother Lode marks the directorial debut of Baker, who performs her own material and also served as producer, with Alex Goodman and Jason Katz executive producing.
In a statement to Deadline, the comic said, “If you have kids, this special is for you.

Amy Schumer is back with a new movie, resuming her Netflix relationship despite their disagreements eight years ago when she wanted more than $11 million for a stand-up special. The trailer for Kinda Pregnant has been out for a week but has just 55 thousand views (and 1.7 thousand likes) as of Jan. 13, 2025. That's compared to the more successful trailers for relatively little-known upcoming Netflix titles, like Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever (509 thousand views), Cassandra (138 thousand views), Bandidos Season 2 (208 thousand views), and one of several trailers for Sakamoto Days (3 million views in three days).
Perhaps this has to do with the lengthy history of negativity towards Schumer, for various reasons. She has certainly had a contentious relationship with her audience (who she refuses to be photographed with in most instances), frequently fueled by social media, that great catalyst of catastrophe.

In the Kinda Pregnant trailer, expecting a baby has its perks. For Amy Schumer’s Lainy, who straps on a prosthetic tummy every morning, it means random acts of kindness, like strangers offering their seats or issuing compliments. It’s a well-kept secret, until she falls belly first at a yoga class.
“Did you ever tell such a big lie you don’t know how to get out of it,” Schumer says in the trailer, released Tuesday.

Amy Schumer pretends she’s a mom-to-be in the new trailer for Netflix’s R-rated comedy “Kinda Pregnant.”
In the film, Schumer plays Lainy Newton, a newly single teacher who wants to be a mother. So, she understandably gets a little jealous after discovering her best friend, Kate (Jillian Bell), is pregnant, leading Lainy to tell a slight fabrication… in the form of donning a fake baby bump. Her deception is complicated by the fact that she meets her dream man (Will Forte) while acting like she’s with child.
“Do you ever tell, like, such a big lie you don’t know how to get out of it?” she asks in the trailer. Lainy commits to her fabrication, though, going along with the gestation of her fake baby and new relationship at the same time.

Now that 2024 has come to a close, it’s official, Netflix once again handed out the most cancellations in the calendar year – though at this point, I don’t think anyone will find this surprising. While the streaming platform has gotten better as the years have gone by in giving shows final seasons and the chances to establish themselves with audiences, the streaming platform continues to have some of the biggest cancellation rates in the business and 2024 was no different.
In total, Netflix canceled 16 shows in 2024 while also handing six additional shows their walking papers with final season orders which are about as close to cancellations as you can get the only difference being that those lucky six shows will get to actually wrap up their runs with proper sendoffs. So when you combine the two groups, Netflix decided to end a whopping 22 shows in 2024 be it by canceling them directly or ordering final seasons.

The world of entertainment is not just a fairyland for actors, directors, and screenwriters to unleash their creativity but it is also a highly competitive field where projects often end up dead before they can even take flight. While one cannot miss what they have never seen, it certainly hurts when a project is taken off air due to one or the other reason. And that is exactly the case for Life & Beth and the millions of fans of the series.

A24 delivered the “disaster comedy of the millennium” when their film Y2K (you can read our review at This Link) reached theatres on December 6th – but not a lot of movie-goers turned out to see it. The movie has only made $4 million at the domestic box office. Maybe it will be better luck when viewers have the option to watch the movie in the comfort of their own homes… and that option is arriving very soon. Next week, in fact. Y2K is set to receive a digital release on December 24th and is available for pre-order on Apple TV and Amazon.
The feature directorial debut of Saturday Night Live veteran Kyle Mooney, who also crafted the screenplay with Evan Winter, Y2K has the following official logline: On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives in this dial-up disaster comedy.

TV cancellations aren’t close to America’s most pressing problem headed into 2025 — but in an uncertain year for the entertainment industry, premature endings in creative workplaces pack as big a punch as ever.
Major guild strikes ended last year and the streaming bubble burst from 2022 has given platforms at least some time to recover since. Still, the countless impacts of Hollywood’s faltering business model could be felt throughout episodic and feature productions as dwindling work continued to move away from traditional opportunity hubs in Los Angeles. As film scenes in other U.S. states and Canada benefited from decline in Southern California, the swan song of peak television experienced an ongoing decrease in new series getting greenlit and an uptick in single-season cancellations.

The 2007 teen comedy Superbad has an outstanding ensemble cast full of big-name stars. Most of Superbad's best quotes are from its three main characters, Seth, Evan, and Fogell aka McLovin, who are played by Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, respectively. Directed by Greg Mottola, Superbad is written by comedic partners Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, the latter of whom plays Officer Michaels in the film. The protagonists, Seth and Evan, are loosely based on Rogen and Goldberg and their real-life experiences growing up as seniors in high school in Vancouver, Canada.
Superbad was the 21st highest-grossing movie in 2007 with a domestic total of $121.46 million. It was a breakout movie for both Hill and Cera and is widely considered a landmark film in the modern comedy genre. Marvel has a new TV show on deck, and this one should seem familiar.
The aptly named “Agatha All Along” is centered on Kathryn Hahn’s character from “WandaVision” and is indeed named for the catchy tune she sang in that series. The show will follow Agatha as she works to not only get her powers back after Wanda’s spell left her trapped in a TV character persona, but also builds her own coven.
Here’s who we know for sure might be in or associated with that coven in the “Agatha All Along” cast ahead of the show’s Sept. 18 premiere on Disney+.

Would you trust John Cena to be your bodyguard for a day? Well, that’s what Awkwafina’s character is forced to do in their new movie, “Jackpot!”
Ok, technically, she’s trusting Noel — he’s just played by Cena. Now streaming on Prime Video, Paul Feig’s latest film centers on Katie Kim (Awkwafina), who finds herself literally running for her life after winning the lottery in near-future Los Angeles.
In this world, it’s perfectly legal to murder the lottery winner and take over their jackpot, so long as you complete the kill by sundown and don’t use a gun. It’s an insane concept, and it boasts a fun cast of familiar faces to bring it all together.
Here’s who you need to know.
Prime Video
Noel (John Cena)
Noel is a bodyguard who comes to help Katie, for a price. He’s mostly a good-hearted dude though.

Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth is no longer.
Hulu has canceled the dramedy after two seasons. The move is not a huge surprise as the second season finished in February, and while Hulu obviously didn’t release any viewing data, it failed to crack Nielsen’s streaming list.
Written, directed, executive produced and starring Schumer, Life & Beth follows Beth (Schumer), whose life looks pretty great on paper. Impressive to everyone she grew up with, she makes a good living as a wine distributor. She’s in a long-term relationship with an attractive, successful guy and lives in Manhattan. But when a sudden incident forces her to engage with her past, her life changes forever.

It’s the end of the line for Life & Beth.
Hulu has canceled the dramedy, created by and starring Amy Schumer, after two seasons. The second (and now final) installment of the show debuted on the Disney-owned streamer in February.
The series follows Beth (Schumer), a woman with “a cool job, a great apartment” and a boyfriend (Kevin Kane) “who’s a New York eight,” as she says in the show’s first episode, who comes to realize how dissatisfied she is with her life. After moving back to her childhood home on Long Island, she considers restarting her life and develops a relationship with a local guy (Michael Cera).

Solar Opposites has been renewed for season 6 ahead of the season 5 release. This renewal puts the show on track to become Hulu's longest-running show ever should it get a season 7 renewal, with The Handmaid's Tale currently holding the record. Murray Hill wants to bring a little fun and camp to a gumshoe series.
The actor who plays Fred Rococo on HBO’s comedy Somebody Somewhere told the New York Times that he is developing a detective show called Shorty Big Time. In fact, he’s currently scouting locations in Palm Springs for the project, which still needs a buyer.
But “nobody’s getting killed” in this series, promises Hill, who went on to share this sample plotline: “Someone took somebody’s teeth at the nursing home, and they call me in. Or the gay rodeo’s in town, and the chaps are missing. Just fun and campy. We need it. Things are rough out there.”
“Now that I have some outside validation,” Murray continued, “I feel like it’s my duty and my obligation to do this show and get it made. You know, RuPaul is the mother, and I’m the father.

You’re watching your favorite show, and one of the main characters is in a jam.
He’s held captive by mercenaries and, for the past two episodes, has struggled to escape a labyrinthine prison. It’s unclear whether our hero will live or die, but the next episode opens with a warning: “The following contains a depiction of suicide. Viewer discretion is advised.” Welp, you think, I know how this story ends.
So what happens when trigger warnings need spoiler warnings? As content disclaimers trend in television, some viewers are taking issue when they give away crucial plot details or ruin surprises.
Take Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” which dulled a shocking assault scene with a preemptive warning reading, “The following episode contains depictions of sexual violence which some viewers may find troubling.” Or Apple TV+’s “Severance,” which tipped viewers off to an episode cliffhanger by revealing, “The following contains a depiction of self-harm.

Hostel is coming to television.
Paul Giamatti has closed a deal to star in a Hostel TV series with the franchise’s Eli Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss all returning for the project from Fifth Season, the studio behind Apple TV+’s Severance.
The Hostel show, which is currently in development and does not yet have a platform attached, is described as being a “modern adaptation” and an “elevated thriller” that’s also a “reinvention” of the horror franchise that launched in 2006 and spawned two sequels.
Roth and Briggs will pen the script, with the former set to direct. Roth, Briggs and Fleiss will all executive produce the series.
The original movie revolved around three backpackers who were headed to a Slovak city that promised to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaited them.
Giamatti will star in a key role, with character details under wraps.

For Kevin Kane, the endgame never wavered once he set a goal to move to New York in the early aughts to pursue a career in acting. He’ll tell you that luck seemed to always be on his side, as the actor from Philadelphia found work soon after his arrival to the Big Apple.
Kane was soon thrusted into the world of Dick Wolf Entertainment with small roles on Law & Order and Chicago P.D. This would eventually lead to his current recurring role as Detective Terry Bruno on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which aired its season 25 finale on May 16.
But early on, while studying acting at the William Esper Studio, Kane would formulate a lifelong bond and friendship with a fellow classmate named Amy Schumer. Together, they would not only hone their skills in drama and comedy, but also sharpen their writing, producing and whatever it would...

Jerry Seinfeld's movie Unfrosted is Number 1 on Netflix despite negative reviews from critics and audiences. The star-studded cast and unique premise likely contributed to its success. Seinfeld's influence and the film's intriguing subject matter have helped maintain its top spot, and could keep it in the Top 10.
Jerry Seinfeld's latest movie, Unfrosted, has taken the Number 1 spot on Netflix's global chart this week, despite the film scoring career-low reviews for the comedian. The Seinfeld directorial debut follows the story of Kellogg's creation of Pop-Tarts in the 1960s, featuring an ensemble cast of comedic actors to bring the story to life. However, the film hasn't scored well with viewers, sitting on Rotten Tomatoes with a critics' score of 41% and an audience score of 50%.
However, despite Unfrosted getting negative reviews, Netflix reports that the comedy film is sitting at Number 1 on their Films chart for the week of April 29 through May...

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer have scrapped a long-in-the-works but never fully realized project in which they were set to play sisters.
Schumer broke the news in a new interview with Variety, saying, “I don’t think it will ever happen. It was just like, life kept going. My family was going through a rough time. I don’t want to say any more than that.”
Lawrence added: “Now that we’re older, a sister comedy might not resonate as much. But we have every intention of working together.”

Amy Schumer was in the zone. This was in March, when she was filming on the street in Brooklyn for her upcoming movie “Kinda Pregnant,” a comedy about a woman who pretends to be knocked up for attention. In one take, Schumer emerged from a subway station while answering a phone call — and was interrupted by a stranger shouting at her from the sidewalk: “Fuck you, Amy Schumer! You’re a Zionist! You love genocide!”
Disruptions of the four-letter variety aren’t unusual in a raucous place like New York, though they’re usually less pointed. Schumer didn’t break character, refusing to stop working as the woman carried on. The actress finished the scene finally, packed up her stuff and went home to her husband and their 4-year-old son.
“It didn’t even raise my heart rate,” Schumer says over brunch at a cozy Brooklyn Heights tavern a couple days later.
