Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit weren’t doing it all for the nookie — they wanted their money also.
The $200 million lawsuit filed by the band over unpaid royalties is rollin’ forward after a judge ruled against Universal Music Group’s motion to dismiss. Filed in October in L.A.’s Central District, the suit says that as of April 2024, the plaintiffs “had not seen a dime in royalties on any Limp Bizkit assets.”
The complaint also accuses Umg of having a “fraudulent” system in place “to conceal artists’ royalties and keep those profits for itself.”
In his 17-page ruling this week (read it here), Judge Percy Anderson wrote: “The Court denies the Motion to Dismiss challenging the sufficiency of the copyright claims. Defendant shall file its Answer to the copyright claims asserted in the 1st AC by no later than April 7, 2025.”

Keke Palmer's new comedy movie debuts with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Since beginning her career as a child actress, Palmer has proven her versatility in both comedy and drama, appearing in Barbershop 2: Back in Business and The Wool Cap, both in 2004. However, her breakthrough came with a standout performance in the drama Akeelah and the Bee in 2006, and her career progressed with roles in Madea's Family Reunion, the Disney Channel original movie Jump In!, The Longshots, and Shrink.
However, Palmer rose to further prominence on television, starring as the titular character in the Nickelodeon sitcom True Jackson, VP from 2008 to 2011. She later transitioned into more mainstream horror on television, starring in Fox's satirical series Scream Queens and MTV's slasher series Scream. As of late, Palmer has started to garner critical acclaim for some of her recent film roles, including her performance as a stripper in 2019's Hustlers,...

Fred Durst, of Limp Bizkit fame, has ventured into indie films with impressive performances in "I Saw the TV Glow" and "Y2K." Despite his music career, Durst has directed films such as "The Fanatic" and continues to make music with Limp Bizkit. Durst's acting talent shines through in his varied roles, hinting at a potential future in more film and TV projects.
Believe it or not, Fred Durst is still making music, and he's added something else to his artistic portfolio as well. There are a few ways people may know the name Fred Durst. Most notably, he's the lead singer of the controversial nu-metal band Limp Bizkit. Others may know him as the man Eminem rapped about on "Slim Shady" when the Detroit artist said he wanted to sit next to Durst and Carson Daly. Still, younger people may only recognize Durst from his wild appearance in the Woodstock '99 documentary.

As the 77th Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25) arrives at its halfway point, here is THR executive editor of awards Scott Feinberg’s assessment of the awards prospects — at the Cannes closing ceremony and later in the fall — of the films that have screened at the fest so far.
The Two That Popped
One cannot know what the specific preferences and priorities of the Greta Gerwig-led main competition jury are, but one can categorically state that two competition films — both of which are so original and out-there that they have to be seen to be believed — have been particularly well received. Both garnered nine-minute standing ovations and rave reviews, including particular praise for their leading lady.
The first is The Substance, a body-horror flick from French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat that might be described as Sunset Blvd. meets Freaks, and an instant classic. Demi Moore, in a gutsy career-best turn...

With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.
It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.
The first is I’m a Virgo on June 23. Acclaimed director Boots Riley’s TV followup to Sorry to Bother You will tale the surreal and satirical tale of a giant in Oakland. That will be followed by the more conventional (assumedly) fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on June 30.

When it comes to Drake’s music, producer Noah “40” Shebib has been a key architect of the rapper’s sound, and the city of Toronto has served as the backdrop of their work together. Both of those narratives come together in the form of a just-released 13-minute mini-documentary titled “Toronto Rising – 40’s Very Own.”
Released today on the Grammy-winning producer’s YouTube channel, in partnership with Native Instruments, the short film offers a rare look into 40’s process as he reflects on his own success story.
Boasting archived footage and never-before-seen home videos, Alim Sabir directed the mini-documentary, which chronicles 40’s early days with Drake, particularly the making of his 2007 mixtape “Comeback Season,” as the reclusive producer provides a first-person account of his rise in the rap scene.
The documentary also touches on 40’s ongoing battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Said 40: “I’ve always considered myself a visitor in hip hop.

'90s rock sensation and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst recently appeared with a strange new look at the 2021 Lollapalooza music festival and has since been trending on the internet. Durst stepped on the stage rocking a head full of silver hair with a handlebar mustache and red aviators. It's the same look the singer teased his fans with on Instagram earlier last week. While many initially believed that Durst was trolling and wearing a wig or something, it turns out he wasn't. So far, it looks like those hair are his own and this weird new look is here to stay. You can check out the pictures below.
Fred Durst had been previously sporting a full beard and the signature backward baseball cap. His appearance has varied throughout the years, but this one takes the cake. And as expected, fans were caught by surprise at the controversial singer's latest transformation.

Much of the eight-song set is devoted to a strain of R&b that flourished two decades ago. One of the most famous lines from Tina Turner’s career came in her introduction to the version of John Fogerty’s “Proud Mary” released by Ike & Tina Turner in 1971. “We never ever do nothing nice and easy,” she said in a sultry snarl. “We always do it nice and rough.”
“Tina,” the documentary about Turner that premiered at the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival, has moments where it tries to be nice and easy, sliding over difficult portions in Turner’s life in an attempt to find a celebratory tone. But the film, too, mostly settles for nice and rough, which fits a woman who says in the film, “It wasn’t a good life. It was in some areas, but the goodness didn’t overcome the bad.”

Viewers watching Food Network's Chopped in recent weeks may have raised some eyebrows at commercials running in-between the show's cloche-lift cliffhangers.
Alongside spots for kitchen tools and home goods, the channel has been running commercials for President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign touting his “Great American Comeback” messaging. While TV has long been the focal point of political ad spend, niche cable networks like Food Network or HGTV have not traditionally been a heavy focus for campaigns, who have preferred to funnel cash to local markets in swing states.

Quarantine hasn't been boring in the slightest for JoJo! The songstress released her first new album since 2016 on May 1—Good to Know—and when she joined E!'s Scott Tweedie for HappE! Hour, she revealed that she's kept busy in her L.A. home by doing everything from shooting a music video to learning how to use professional music production software. "...I had my friend, who's a director, come through— wearing a mask and everything—but like, this table that I'm talking to you on, we turned it into a surface for me to kind of crawl on and dance on and do all these things," JoJo said of the "Comeback" music video. Aside from fronting Limp Bizkit – that nu metal band most people don’t want to admit they moshed to in high school – Fred Durst has also branched out into directing indie films, first with the drama The Education of Charlie Banks (2007), then with the sports film The Longshots (2008), and now with psycho thriller The Fanatic, which he allegedly based on a real-life experience with a stalker. Judging from this movie, it must have left a mark. Sporting a ridiculous mullet, John Travolta plays Moose, a lonely film fan who idolizes horror movie star Hunter Dunbar. After...

As two former teen idols, both John Travolta and Devon Sawa know a thing or two about obsessive superfans. The two pair up in “The Fanatic,” a dramatic thriller about a middle-aged man whose obsession with a celebrity action star becomes dangerously intense. Travolta recently made waves with an unhinged performance as New York City mobster John Gotti in 2018’s “Gotti,” directed by “Entourage” star Kevin Connolly. Now he’s working with another unexpected director: former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.
Per the official synopsis: “Moose is a rabid movie fan who is obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero, Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa). When he is cheated out of his opportunity to finally meet Hunter, Moose gets a little help from his friend Leah (Ana Golja), a well-connected paparazzi photographer, who knows how to find celebrity homes. John Travolta is getting all kinds of crazy.
The 65-year-old actor sported a bloody new look for his upcoming film in which he stars as a rabid film fan.
Dressed in a navy jacket and blue T-shirt, Travolta had a bloody eye and closely cropped gray hair as the film’s director Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, looked at the camera over the actor’s shoulder.
The look is a far cry from how the bald hairstyle Travolta sported at the beginning of the year.

John Travolta will soon star in the stalker movie The Fanatic from Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, and a photo of the actor in character has made its way online. Just recently retitled, the movie was originally intended to be called Moose, which comes from the name of Travolta's lead character. In addition to directing the movie, Durst co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Bekerman. Principal photography was completed in Alabama, and the project is currently in post-production. Vmi will be handling sales of the thriller, and a release date has yet to be set.
Apparently, Fred Durst was inspired to make The Fanatic based on his real-life encounter with an obsessive fan who began stalking him. In the movie, Travolta will be playing a cinephile named Moose, who's perhaps a bit too obsessed with action movie star Hunter Dunbar. The Television Academy announced Monday that Fox will air the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 22, airing live coast to coast. Emmys kick off the fall TV season, and the show’s host(s) often set the tone for broadcast TV’s premiere week. And with that, let the hosting speculation begin.
With awards shows’ ratings in steady decline, the host is a key driver. It’s a tall order: Recognizable and trusted are essential. Internal talent preferred, but must have the skills to keep energy fun and high. A sitcom star with standup roots, like Tk? Song-and-dance experience, like Neil Patrick Harris? Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is currently directing a new film in Alabama called Moose. The movie is inspired by a real-life story of a fan that was stalking Durst years ago.
John Travolta stars in the film as Moose, who is a "rabid movie fan obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero." That action hero is played by Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Slc Punk). "As Moose’s obsession grows stronger, his fixation turns from stalking to ambition of destroying the star’s life — a story inspired by a real-life fan who stalked Durst many years ago."
This sounds like it will be an interesting movie. This seems like a different kind of role for Travolta to take on and it's great to see Devon Sawa land a solid role in a movie!
Durst previously directed The Longshots and The Education of Charlie Banks, both of which were decent films,...

Oscars buzz boosts UK box office and whether growling on a plane or voicing an animation, it's Liam Neeson's moment
• Review of The Lego Movie
• Review of Non-Stop
• More on the UK box office
The winner
Adding another £4.79m in the past seven days, The Lego Movie now stands at a sturdy £26.67m after three weeks of play. That puts it level with the lifetime tallies of blockbusters including Spider-Man 2 (£26.72m) and Ocean's Eleven (£26.47m), and ahead of fellow animations including Ratatouille (£24.80m) and Wall-e (£22.91m). The Lego Movie will pretty soon overtake the likes of Shrek (£29m) and A Bug's Life (£29.45m) and is clearly headed into the mid-30s (£m).
Although box office for The Lego Movie is certainly skewed to the weekend, its decent performance in the Monday-to-Thursday period suggests that it is picking up a true adult audience, rather than merely adult chaperones of children.

Growing up as an 11-year-old white kid in the middle of a moderate sized town in the Pacific Northwest, the first time I threw on Nwa’s seminal album Straight Outta Compton was a mind blowing experience, one of those moments that profoundly expand your mind. A direct result of this was that Ice Cube became the most terrifying human being alive. In my adolescent mind, all he did was murder people and tell the cops to go fuck themselves. Getting older I learned a few things about the realities of the world, and realized that’s not the case. Still, the rapper-turned-actor has maintained his edge in my mind even after making crappy family movies like “Are We There Yet?” Sure, he may have made “The Longshots,” but even after everything he’s still one of the few people who, when he punches an Anaconda in the face and calls it a bitch,...

Over a busy Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, buddy comedy Ride Along should take first place ahead of franchise reboot Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.Opening at 2,662 locations, Ride Along is essentially the comedy version of Training Day. In the rookie role is Kevin Hart, who has established a strong brand thanks to supporting turns in movies like Think Like a Man ($91.5 million) and his incredibly popular stand-up work (last Summer's Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain earned $32.2 million). Meanwhile, Ice Cube assumes the role of the veteran cop; Cube's last headlining role was 2008 box office bomb The Longshots, so it's unclear if he's much of a draw these days. The movie's real strength, though, can be found in its tagline: "Propose to this cop's sister? Rookie mistake." That line clearly explains what the movie is about, and suggests that there is something here for both men and women (one of the...

A whole mess of factors goes into what projects a director takes on. A young up-and-comer might be happy just to get his first directing credit, regardless of what it might actually be about. A director who's been around the block might pick up a project way outside of their wheelhouse just for the experience. And the promise of a couple bucks doesn't hurt, either.
In other words, sometimes you just can't pin a filmmaker down. Here are some rather odd and unexpected director-movie pairings.
1. Sidney Lumet, 'The Wiz' (1978)
Between "12 Angry Men," "Network," "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Serpico," it's fair to call the late Sidney Lumet an all-time great. But considering most of Lumet's career was dedicated to crime and drama, "The Wiz," a musical "The Wizard of Oz" adaptation set in Harlem (and, later, Oz), is a definite oddball in his canon. Starring such powerhouses of African-American culture as Michael Jackson,...

Last year we heard that former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst was looking to continue his low key career behind movie cameras (after directing The Longshots and The Education of Charlie Banks) with a dark comedy called Pawn Shop Chronicles starring Paul Walker. It sounded pretty outlandish following multiple interconnected stories centered around a missing wedding ring which leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator. But the project never came together, and now the film is in the hands of Wayne Kramer (Running Scared, The Cooler) with one huge ensemble cast. Though it doesn't sound like Paul Walker is involved anymore in the report from Deadline, plenty of names have surfaced in his place including Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, Vincent D'Onofrio, Thomas Jane, Chi McBride, Lukas Haas, Pell James, Kevin Rankin, D.J. Qualls, Michael Cudlitz, Norman Reedus and Ashlee Simpson. That's quite...

It's possible that a young actress like Keke Palmer could be upstaged by her "Joyful Noise" costars Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, but that's not the case with Keke Palmer. Palmer's powerful pipes will win over audiences just as her "Noise" character, Olivia, makes Randy (Jeremy Jordan, sporting some equally impressive lungs) swoon.

What She's Done: Palmer starred as spelling bee whiz Akeelah in "Akeelah and the Bee" alongside Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, a double-dutch queen in the Disney TV movie "Jump In!" and a boundary-breaking football player in Fred Durst's film "The Longshots" with Ice Cube.
What She's Doing Now: Palmer plays Olivia, a young singer in a small town in Georgia; her mom Vi (Queen Latifah) is the director of the church choir, and she's got some old-fashioned ideas about how a choir should sound -- and who her daughter should date.
