Two of Mad Men’s brassiest ladies have just landed new projects: Christina Hendricks will play the lead role in Campbell Scott’s (Company Retreat) adaptation of the Joan Didion novel A Book of Common Prayer. Elisabeth Moss, Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed), and Ted Danson will star in The One I Love from first time director Charlie McDowell (Fighting Jacob). Hit the jump for more on each casting announcement. Christina Hendricks will be taking on the role of Charlotte Douglas in A Book of Common Prayer, adapted by Joyce McKee and Rachel LeMin. As Variety reported, the story revolves around Charlotte journeying to a fictional country in Central America, imagining that it is the place where she will be reunited with her fugitive daughter. Besides her work as Joan on Mad Men, Hendricks is signed on to star in Ryan Gosling’s writing and directorial debut How to Catch a Monster.

Actor-turned-indie filmmaker Campbell Scott has signed on to direct and star in an upcoming adaptation of the 1977 novel “A Book of Common Prayer” by Joan Didion. The story centers on two women in a fictional Central American country on the verge of revolution. One woman married into a powerful political family, the other has seen her marriage fall apart and her daughter run away with a group of Marxist radicals. Campbell has been in the acting game for a long time, and was most recently seen as Peter Parker’s father in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” It is unclear what part he will play in ‘Prayer.’ As a director, he has made such films as “Final,” “Company Retreat,” and most notably “Off The Map,” an indie about a family of naturalists living in the New Mexico desert that was well-received by critics.
