Tina Fey’s 30 Rock was one of the finest comedies that aired on TV. While it did not enjoy the ratings success of other similar workplace sitcoms like The Office or Parks and Recreation, it was nominated for a total of 103 Emmys. Fey used her signature surreal humor to bring to life the world of television that she knew and prospered in.
The show parodied her experiences as the head writer of Saturday Night Live with a fun-filled take on the corporate structure of NBC. Fey played Liz Lemon, the head writer of the series Tgs with Tracy Jordan. She has to work alongside network executive Jack Donaghy, played by Alec Baldwin.

Rust, the long-delayed Western film starring Alec Baldwin, is finally set for release after years of uncertainty caused by a tragic on-set accident. Many believed the project would either be permanently shelved or become lost media. The fatal incident occurred on October 21, 2021, during a rehearsal when Baldwin discharged a firearm containing a live round, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. The tragedy led to widespread scrutiny of on-set firearm safety and raised concerns about how real weapons are handled in the film industry. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer responsible for handling firearms on set, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter. A jury found that she displayed reckless disregard for safety, resulting in her sentencing of 18 months in prison—the maximum penalty for the charge. The accident was compared to the 1993 tragedy on the set of The Crow, where actor Brandon Lee was fatally shot due to mishandled prop ammunition.

On October 21, 2021, a fatal accident occurred on the set of Alec Baldwin's latest film, Rust. The actor accidentally discharged a live round from a prop revolver which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. Despite the tragic incident and the subsequent, highly-publicized trial, the film will still be released, and the studio has just debuted a trailer which shows Baldwin in the film's leading role.
The trailer marks the first footage that has been released to general audiences since the 2021 incident. The film did premiere at Poland's Camerimage international film festival, but to a much smaller audience. Since the film is a Western, the minute-and-nineteen-second-long trailer features horseback riding, grand desert vistas, and a fair amount of shooting – which some viewers might find particularly hard to watch considering the tragedy. Alec Baldwin is very much in the Rust trailer, in case you were wondering how they’d handle that.
More than three years ago, tragedy struck the set of the Western film. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life.
Now, the trailer is out.
Watch the Rust teaser for yourself. A sense of unease permeates every moment — at least, if you know what happened.

As you can see below, the Rust trailer is full of Western vistas, horses, tension, death, and old-timey shootouts.
Yes, some of it feels uncomfortably close to the tragedy that befell that film set.
And yes, Alec Baldwin takes center stage in multiple scenes in the trailer.

It's difficult to know how to feel about the potential release of Joel Souza's "Rust." This is the independently produced Western that became a major news story in 2021 when a .45 Colt revolver brandished by star Alec Baldwin -- who continues to claim he did not pull the trigger, hence the bizarre wording here -- fired a live round directly through the chest of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and into Souza's shoulder. The set's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was ultimately found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for her negligence in loading the weapon. Meanwhile, involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dismissed with prejudice by New Mexico Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer.
Principal photography on "Rust" was eventually completed in 2023. This delay caused cast members Brady Noon and Jensen Ackles to drop out of the movie, but Souza and company dragged the film across the finish line and screened it at the Camerimage film...

As seen at the end of the video, Hutchins’ widower Matthew Hutchins gets an executive producer credit, which was a stipulation in her family dropping their initial wrongful death lawsuit. Baldwin is also a producer on the movie and gets a story by credit alongside writer/director Souza.

Despite several years of interviews and investigations, the Rustshooting that caused the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins still feels like an unresolved case for many. Director Rachel Mason seeks to answer some of these questions in her brand-new documentary Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna, which is currently occupying the #1 spot on Hulu's streaming charts.
On Oct. 21, 2021, Hutchins was fatally shot on the set of Rust, a Western film starring Alec Baldwin. Baldwin had discharged a prop gun that was mistakenly loaded with live rounds instead of blanks, killing Hutchins and seriously injuring director Joel Souza. In the years since, both the court of public opinion and the New Mexican judicial system have battled ceaselessly to determine culpability, eventually charging Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed with involuntary manslaughter, and declaring Baldwin's innocence. But many people, including Hutchins' colleagues, were not satisfied by this outcome, feeling as though justice hadn't yet been served.

The ‘Rust’ controversy was one of the biggest Hollywood fail stories to take place in recent times. There’s the Will Smith Oscars slap thing, there’s Kevin Spacey and his sexual assault cases, Amber Heard/Johnny Depp defamation battle, and even Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s ongoing court case, but Alec Baldwin’s definitely makes the top ranking for a Hollywood grace to grass story.
Now, the actor is reportedly trying to rehabilitate his image in the way of a TLC reality TV show. Let’s just say that fans and critics think he might be trying too hard.

Randall Miller, the director of “Midnight Rider,” completed his probation this week, 10 years after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of crew member Sarah Jones.
Jones, a camera assistant, was struck by a freight train in February 2014 while the crew was setting up a shot on a train bridge without authorization. Miller ultimately served a year in jail in the case.
Under the Georgia First Offender Act, Miller got a court order this week to wipe away his conviction. The process, called an “exoneration” under Georgia law, is available to certain first-time offenders who complete their probation without violations.
“I am so grateful that this day has finally come,” he said in a written statement. “With this exoneration my record has been cleared.”
While on probation, Miller has been prohibited from directing movies.
Prosecutors sought to revoke his probation in 2020, after learning that he had shot a film in Serbia.

The day after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died after being accidentally shot on the set of the indie film Rust, her husband Matthew had a request for Halyna’s friend and filmmaking collaborator, Rachel Mason: “Make a movie about Halyna’s life.”
“He mentioned it on that day, coming off a list of things he needed to take care of that were really horrible, like planning her funeral,” Mason tells Rolling Stone. “It took a while for me to acknowledge the reality of any of it. [But] when Matt’s request...

Rachel Mason’s Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna makes its point crystal clear from the title: Halyna Hutchins, the talented Dp who landed on American Cinematographer’s list of “10 up-and-coming directors of photography who are making their mark” in 2019, will not be upstaged by the celebrity who in 2021 accidentally shot and killed her (and injured director Joel Souza) during the filming of the western Rust. Which makes sense since Mason was a close friend of Hutchins, and was asked by her devastated widower to take on the project. And while the film is rightly a celebration […]

During my interview a while back with a director of small-budget Westerns, he explained to me that if you keep your costs down low enough and, better still, cast a recognizable character actor or country music star — not a superstar, but someone recognizable — to promote in packaging and advertising, you could turn a profit just on DVD and Blu-ray sales. “You do it right,” he said, “and you make your money back from Redbox and big-box stores. You do it wrong — you get ‘Rust.’”
It’s a theory that might seem dated today — more than likely, that director now relies heavily if not exclusively on sales to streaming platforms — but the industrial-strength pressure to pinch pennies and stretch dollars continues apace for indie genre filmmakers. As director Rachel Mason makes abundantly clear in her exceptional Hulu documentary “Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna,” such measures can have fatal consequences.

The new documentary “Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna,” which premieres Tuesday on Hulu, examines the 2021 gun accident that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of indie film “Rust” and was directed by Hutchins’s friend, Rachel Mason.
Hutchins is remembered fondly in the doc as a friend, wife, mother and aspiring cinematographer. The accident occurred when Alec Baldwin’s prop gun fired a live bullet during production on Oct. 21, 2021, and the film also includes interviews with those on set, subsequent lawsuits, criminal trials and investigations into lapses in on-set safety protocols.
The doc was previewed last week during an FYC event that also provided reflection about Hutchins. The event additionally exposed the challenges of tackling this high-profile story when “Rust” director Joel Souza, who was additionally injured in the accident and was interviewed for the doc, admitted during the Q&a, “I hoped it...

Production on the film Rust was suspended after Alec Baldwin accidentally fired a prop gun with live rounds and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during production in October 2021. The incident sparked various lawsuits, leaving the status of the movie in question. But did production ever resume on the western film, and did the movie ever actually come out? TV Insider rounded up everything you need to know below ahead of the documentary Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna streaming on Hulu on March 11. Did the movie Rust ever come out? The movie was released in November 2024 at the EnergaCamerimage festival in Poland, and director Joel Souza said in March that it will be available to viewers at home in the months ahead. Souza told Vanity Fair that Decal Releasing is putting the film out for home release and that there will also be a limited theatrical run. Hutchins’ husband,...

You can feel the grief running through Rachel Mason’s documentary, “Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna.” There’s not only the grief felt by “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ friends, family and co-workers, but that her death was then cast into a media firestorm, set to be adjudicated by people indifferent to her life and work. Grief also causes us to grasp, looking for answers in the face of chaos, trying to make sense of a senseless tragedy — and “Last Take” wanders in a similar fashion.
There are times when it feels like it seizes on a larger issue about indie productions taking shortcuts on safety, and how in the case of “Rust” it resulted in a worker’s death. But there are other times when the film seems angrier at people online than the people who made “Rust” an unsafe place to work. In between these narratives,...

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood may make it seem like a dreamland, but behind the flashing cameras and red carpets, things aren’t always so picture-perfect. Lawsuits, legal disputes, and courtroom dramas are just as much a part of the industry as blockbuster movies and chart-topping hits. Over the years, celebrity lawsuits have made just as many headlines as their biggest hits. From contract disputes to defamation cases, legal battles have become a part of the entertainment world.
Some of the most shocking cases have even shaped movements, like how the Harvey Weinstein scandal gave a powerful push to the #MeToo movement, changing Hollywood forever. Others have been so dramatic that they’ve inspired documentaries, books, and TV series, keeping the public hooked on every twist and turn.

Alec Baldwin’s reality show The Baldwins is going just about as well as you might imagine. Some see it as an insensitive cash grab while Baldwin himself has set it up as a way to look at his life following the accidental death of Halyna Hutchins, cinematographer on the yet-to-be-released western Rust. Now, the family of Hutchins is taking issue with Baldwin directly, calling on him to testify and be held accountable in the October 21st shooting.
Less than three months after appeals were withdrawn in the manslaughter case against Alec Baldwin, Halyna Hutchins’ mother, father and sister are seeking to ensure that the actor will get his. A statement issued by a team of lawyers representing Haylna Hutchins’ family read, in part: “The Baldwin reality show at once celebrates Mr Baldwin’s joy of being with his children while ignoring the fact that Alec Baldwin took a child away from her parents.

Alec Baldwin has been through a very traumatic few years. After the tragic 2021 accident on the set of Rust that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, he's been riddled with regret, as was probably everyone else on the set.
But in addition to that, he recently had to stand trial for manslaughter, and while charges against him were dropped quickly, it was still an incredibly stressful situation. The actor has been dealing with a lot of guilt and trauma, and while he seems to be on the right path, he was in a very dark place not long ago.
Now that things have calmed down a little, Alec and Hilaria are looking forward to focusing on their family and career, but the past has a way of coming back to haunt everyone, and the...

Nearly four years after the accidental shooting incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the Alec Baldwin-starring Rust will soon hit screens in a limited theatrical run followed by a home release sometime in the coming months, according to the film's director Joel Souza. With an official release date on the horizon, Souza sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair, who also published a series of exclusive first-look stills from Rust.
In the interview, Souza, who was also injured in the shooting incident, revealed that he struggled with whether to finish Rust, but he ultimately felt it was what Hutchins would have wanted.

It’s hard to say if today is a day of excitement, sadness, or maybe a little bit of both, as the first official images from Rust are stepping out into the light of day. While Western fans will likely rejoice with the news, it also must be treated with somber respect, as the film’s set was the scene of a horrific and fatal accident that claimed the life of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. In the last more than three years, since the movie’s set turned into a crime scene, those following the case have seen court cases come and go, and the eye of authority focus in and off of leading star, Alec Baldwin. What was supposed to be a celebratory kickoff event for the new Hulu documentary Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna devolved into a tense confrontation on Tuesday night.
Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot Oct. 21, 2021 on the New Mexico set of Rust when star Alec Baldwin's prop gun discharged a live round. The bullet passed through the shoulder of director Joel Souza and then struck Hutchins, who was working as a cinematographer on the Western.

A new episode of Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Baldwin’s newly premiered reality show The Baldwins has revealed that following the tragic shooting on the set of Rust, Baldwin wanted to kill himself.
On the set of the Western film Rust in 2021, crew member Halyna Hutchins was killed when Baldwin fatally shot her after waving around what he thought was a prop gun. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the shooting. The incident sparked a heavy debate about Baldwin’s culpability in the tragedy. Baldwin has continually insisted that he did not pull the gun’s trigger and it discharged without him touching it.
Hutchins’ mother recently revealed that Baldwin never apologized for his role in the death of her daughter.

A tense Q&a session on Tuesday night at an FYC screening of a new documentary about late Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins suggests the film underwent substantial changes in tone and content from the filmmakers’ original intent.
Ever since Hutchins died on the 2021 set of the indie Western, the Ukraine-born cinematographer has slipped into the background, as the sprawling investigation into her accidental shooting death and the high-profile trials of Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed have claimed the spotlight in news coverage.

Alec Baldwin will be deposed in May over his role in the October 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.
Lawyers for Hutchins’ parents and sister, in a notice filed on Monday in New Mexico state court, told the judge overseeing the case that they intend to take Baldwin’s deposition on May 9 at their firm’s New York office.
“It is long overdue for him to testify under oath about what really happened that caused the death” of Hutchins, said Gloria Allred, a lawyer for the family, in a statement.
The deposition relates to a lawsuit filed by Olga Solovey, Anatolii Androsovych and Svetlana Zemko — Hutchins’ mother, father and sister respectively — against Baldwin, Rust Movie Productions and producers of the film faulting them for the accidental shooting. It revolves around accusations that they repeatedly ignored safety protocols designed to ensure that firearms would be safely...

Halyna Hutchins’ family retaliated against Alec Baldwin’s new TLC reality television series on Monday, filing a notice of deposition for the actor demanding he “face the real-life consequences that he caused” and “face reality under oath.”

She set the deposition for the Friday before Mothers’ Day 2025 because “Halyna’s mother needs to hear Mr. Baldwin’s explanation under oath about what led to the death of her daughter,” Allred said.
