Panavision has long been an iconic pillar of the film industry, shaping the visual storytelling of countless cinematic masterpieces. With its unrivaled expertise in camera and lens manufacturing, Panavision has equipped Hollywood blockbusters, independent films, and everything in between. However, as the industry evolves, so too must Panavision. Following the closure of its Hollywood branch, Panavision has an opportunity—perhaps even an obligation—to pivot its business model toward direct sales of its esteemed cameras and lenses. This strategic move would not only ensure the company’s survival but also reinforce its significance in the modern era of filmmaking. An opinion.

Fans of the hit CBS drama FBI were surprised last month when it was revealed that Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille, played by Alana de la Garza, is actually married. Until now, her personal life had been a mystery, even to her closest colleagues. However, the identity of her husband has now been confirmed. Veteran actor Tom Cavanagh has been cast in the role, bringing even more depth to Isobel’s story.
Cavanagh is best known for his roles in The Flash, where he played multiple versions of Harrison Wells, as well as for his leading role in the early 2000s comedy Ed. He has also appeared in Scrubs, Royal Pains, Eli Stone, and more recently in Blue Bloods and Superman & Lois.

Quick LinksSmallville Made One Massive MistakeSuperman & Lois Also Failed With Super SpeedOnly One Show Offered a True Depiction
When it first debuted in 2001, Smallville promised to be something new. It was a full-scale origin story that would play out throughout 10 seasons. In doing so, it would offer a semi-serious depiction of Superman's story, which would share a generation of superhero movies and shows. Tom Welling would become a definitive Superman, despite never getting the chance to spend a full episode in a cape. Much of the show was actually dedicated to the famous "No Flights, No Tights" rule. While it was eventually twisted to allow Superman to finally fly, the showrunners generally stuck by that edict.
Because Clark was so young when the show began, he was also slow to develop his powers. He developed X-ray vision, heat vision, enhanced hearing, a cold breath, and everything else that the Man of Steel is known for.

After a rough few years in the broadcast landscape, the 2024-25 season has brought in some rays of hope.
To be sure, the long-term structural challenges for network TV remain in a world where streaming is the default platform for the largest share of viewers and ongoing corporate consolidation continues to shrink the number of potential suppliers (and buyers) of shows. But several network shows have achieved breakout status in the past year, and each of the big four broadcasters (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) can claim at least one success story among their crop of first-year series. The fact that networks are also the primary suppliers of the long-running, deep-library shows that keep streaming services humming also seems to have sunk in across the industry.

Grant Gustin, best known for playing Barry Allen in The CW’s The Flash, recently shared his thoughts on whether he would return for a reboot of the series. The Arrowverse officially came to an end in December 2024, with Superman & Lois season 4 marking the franchise’s final chapter. However, The Flash, which ran for nine seasons, was the last show from the Earth-Prime side of the Arrowverse to conclude.
During an appearance on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Gustin was asked if he would be open to returning for a 10-episode Flash revival. While he didn’t give a definitive yes, he admitted he would love to return under the right circumstances.
“Yeah, of course, there’s a lot of things that I’d have to like ask… not for, but about. I’d be more interested in the [creative side],” Gustin said.

Over the years, there have been plenty of actors to play the role of Superman. The Man of Steel is one of the most recognizable superheroes of all time, and that makes him one of the most iconic movie and TV stars too. There have been multiple adaptations of the DC Comics character on both the big and small screen, with each actor adding something new and unique to the role. Most recently to do it is Tyler Hoechlin.
Hoechlin initially appeared in a guest stint on The CW's Supergirl in 2016 before starring in his own critically-acclaimed TV series Superman and Lois, which just wrapped its run after four amazing seasons. The show had to end prematurely due to DC Studios' decision to launch a brand new DC Universe featuring a new Superman movie.

If there's one thing teen fantasy shows have proven is that, even when you're dead, you can always come back. Teen Wolf has had a series of shocking deaths throughout its run, but, more often than not, it allowed characters to come back.
The iconic MTV fantasy show Teen Wolf premiered in 2011 and ran for six seasons until 2017. The cast and crew reunited for 2023's Paramount+ continuation, Teen Wolf: The Movie, but it also came with a shocking death of fan-favorite character Derek Hale, played by Tyler Hoechlin. During an interview with Screen Rant, Hoechlin revealed whether he'd ever return to reprise his role in the Teen Wolf franchise and gave an enthusiastic answer despite his character's fate.

We're hopefully just hours away from a new look at Superman being shared during Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl. In the meantime, the Dcu's Lois Lane, Rachel Brosnahan, has reflected on the experience of seeing David Corenswet suit up as the Man of Steel for the first time.
Speaking on the Producers Guild Awards red carpet (you can see more photos of the actor's jaw-dropping red carpet look below), Brosnahan started by revealing that, "It sort of happened twice."
"When we tested for the parts together, I was doing a play, so I had to get out very quickly. I was leaving and I knocked on the door, and he was standing there in a Superman suit, testing," she continued. "I was just like, 'Superman is in the building.' It was wild. It was one of those electric moments that feel really rare. In that moment, I knew it would be David.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch recently discussed The CW show, sharing their thoughts on the season finale. Titled "It Went By So Fast," the final episode aired on December 2, 2024, and depicted the iconic characters' respective deaths three decades after putting away their archnemesis Lex Luthor.
Hoechlin and Tulloch were on Megacon's Superman & Lois panel. In response to Cbr's question about their initial reaction to Superman & Lois Season 4's script, Tulloch responded, "I was surprised they went so full circle." Hoechlin added, "I thought it was very bold. When I read it, I felt different than when we started shooting it. I knew it would be good." In the season finale, Lois passes away after her cancer returns, with Clark joining her in the afterlife a few years later after dying of heart failure. The pair, however, enjoyed a full life together before their deaths.

The Arrowverse is an impressive television universe based on characters from DC Comics. Created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg, the franchise aired on the CW from 2012 to 2024, comprising seven series beginning with Arrow. For years, the Arrowverse stood out as the pinnacle of a television universe, including multiple massive crossover events that adapted key storylines from DC Comics. The franchise thrived even as DC's films were waning, lasting even longer than the controversial DC Extended Universe. However, the universe wasn't destined to last forever.

Superman is a character that needs no introduction, as he's become one of the most popular characters in all of fiction. His iconic costume, especially his "S" symbol (a.k.a. the House of El's coat of arms), is revered throughout the world, and the character is still being discussed and adapted into movies and TV to this very day.
Actor David Corenswet is the next actor to put on the red cape in this summer's Superman film, directed by one of the heads of DC Studios James Gunn. Promotion for the film has begun and, with the release of the teaser for the movie just recently, now would be a good time to discuss which actor portrayed Superman the best in the character's many incarnations.

Tom Welling, best known for his role as Clark Kent on Smallville, recently discussed his reluctance to appear as his iconic character in the Arrowverse before 2019. During his appearance at Fan Expo New Orleans, Welling explained why he turned down earlier opportunities to reprise the role.
He revealed that while he received calls from the Arrowverse producers, they weren’t for acting but for playing Clark Kent specifically. He felt strongly that Clark’s character would not fit into those shows without losing something important from Smallville‘s vision.
Although Smallville was a key part of the foundation for the Arrowverse, Welling was careful not to disrupt what had already been established. If he had appeared as Superman in Supergirl’s second season, it could have changed the direction of the Arrowverse, especially with Tyler Hoechlin cast as Superman in that role and the Superman & Lois series later emerging.

Superman might be invincible, but Henry Cavill’s paycheck? Not so much. Fans of the Dcu’s Man of Steel have long debated if Cavill was seriously underpaid for donning that iconic cape. And yes, he probably was.
So, when you think Superman, you imagine sky-high paychecks, right? But Cavill’s earnings weren’t quite on the same planet as other big-name superheroes.

Sure, he pulled in millions by the end, but when you stack his numbers against his peers (or even other Supermen) it’s hard not to go, ‘that’s it?’ Let’s dive into the receipts and break down just how much Cavill made flying around in tights and why it pales in comparison to others.

The hangout movie is one of the most underrated genres of film, spanning back decades. To quote visionary and legendary modern filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, when discussing the Howard Hawks film Rio Bravo in a private screening at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007, hangout movies, "are certain movies that you hang out with the characters so much that they actually become your friends. And that’s a really rare quality to have in a film…because it actually takes that long of a time to get past a movie character where you actually feel that you know the person and you like them…when it’s over, they’re your friends.”
The modern master of the hangout movie is almost certainly Richard Linklater, whose varied filmography includes comedy classics like School of Rock, Oscar winners like Boyhood and romantic comedies like Hit Man. One of his best films of all time,...

Peacock is considering slipping back into the dark fairytale world of the supernatural drama series Grimm with a new movie.
According to a new report from Deadline, the streaming service is looking to continue with the series with a new movie, one that could potentially launch a franchise. The original series, which is loosely based on the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales by the Brothers Grimm, ran for six seasons and over 120 episodes on NBC from 2011 to 2017. At one point, the network considered a spinoff to explore the Grimm mythology further, but it never came to fruition.
The outlet reports several producers and creators from the original series, including showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, are returning for the Universal Television reboot.

NBC's Grimm, one of the most underrated dark fantasy shows of the past decade, has now hit streaming. Featuring a likable cast that went on to become familiar faces, Grimm followed a supernatural hunter who battled classic fantasy creatures. A forgotten gem from the 2010s, Grimm was a rare instance when the modernization of classic fairy and folk tales worked as a procedural. It's not perfect by any means, especially in the show's latter seasons, but there is enough to keep fantasy lovers invested from start to finish.
All six seasons of Grimm are now available to stream on Peacock. The show stars David Giuntoli as Nicholas "Nick" Burkhardt, a homicide detective who comes from a long line of "Grimms," which have the superhuman ability to see the mythological creatures known as the Wesen. Alongside his partner, Detective Hank (Russell Hornsby), they solve week-to-week mysteries revolving around the Wesen...

Cancellations are a normal and expected part of the TV life cycle. No show can go on forever – well unless you’re The Simpsons maybe – and it’s inevitable that all shows will come to a close at some point.
That said, it’s far too common for some of the best shows to grace our screens to have their runs end abruptly and it’s incredibly frustrating as a fan when these decisions are not the result of anything the show has done wrong. In 2024, there were countless shows canceled across broadcast, cable, and streaming, and some of these cancellations were deserved or expected. However, there were just as many that have left us annoyed, bitter, and upset.
As 2024 draws to a close, let’s take a look back at the cancellations that we still haven’t gotten over this year beginning with the most puzzling cancellation on the superhero front,...

We know TV characters have to die. Sometimes, it’s the villains that we’re ready for and cheering about. Other times, it’s the good guys sacrificing themselves for something bigger. Then there are simply the shocking deaths that we just didn’t see coming. 2024 had a great mixture of them all.
Some deaths hit us the hardest. We still can’t think of the shows without thinking of those deaths. In some cases, they’ve just hit the right time despite bring filmed months or years earlier. Other deaths are purposely poignant for the social climate of the world. After all, entertainment isn’t just there for entertaining purposes.
As we get ready to say goodbye to 2024, we look back at the character deaths that destroyed us the most. The aim is for broadcast deaths only, but there are a couple of basic cable and premium cable deaths that sneak in here.

The history of superhero TV shows on The CW started and ended with Superman. The very first, just as the network was born from the ashes of Upn and the WB, was "Smallville," which set a standard for telling superhero origin stories on TV without big budgets or blockbuster-level visual effects, and went on to become a Guinness World Record holder.
23 years later, The CW said goodbye to what will likely be the network's very last superhero TV show in "Superman & Lois." Rather than being another origin story, however, this series was a bold and exciting new take that began 20 years after Clark Kent had first suited up as the Man of Steel, battled foes like Lex Luthor, married Lois Lane, and become a father to twin boys. Rather than examining the start of Superman's career, the show explored Clark Kent's life as a middle-aged superhero all the way through to his final years.

The many adaptations of Superman in film and TV have seen certain characters be changed to be practically unrecognizable. Even long before the movies of the Dceu, Superman was DC’s most famous movie character. As perhaps the most iconic superhero in pop culture, the Man of Steel has been adapted to the screen many times, in film and TV and in both live-action and animation. This has seen many different takes on the hero and his supporting characters.
So many different actors who've played Superman have put their own spin on the character, and similarly, many varied approaches to adapting his world have taken place over the years. The CW's epic run with DC television series sadly reached its two-decade-long run with the finale of Superman & Lois, but there's no doubt that it's left behind quite an impressive legacy. It not only gave DC fans shows like Smallville, but it also became one of the first major television franchises to successfully run more than three interconnected shows at the same time with the Arrowverse. Consisting of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, and others, the Arrowverse offered far more opportunities for storytelling that was both connected and engaging for over a decade in more ways than the cinematic DC Extended Universe ever did in that same amount of time. Even if not every one of these shows managed to keep the same level of intrigue as the others, it's impossible to deny that each of them had some truly memorable characters and stories. The Man of Tomorrow is returning to the big screen in DC's Superman. This reboot, from Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, will mark the cinematic starting point of the new Dcu and introduce David Corenswet's Superman to the world. Reimagining a character as iconic as Superman is no mean feat, especially when faced with the task of outshining other recent adaptations of the character and overcoming growing concerns of "superhero fatigue." However, the first teaser trailer for Gunn's Superman has defied the odds and won over fans around the world. Warning! This article contains spoilers for all of DC's 2024 releases.2024 has been quite a deadly year for the DC Universe, with plenty of movies and TV shows being released with a high body count. Compared to years past, which saw frequent releases of Dceu movies, 2024 constituted something of a gap year for DC's live-action projects, with Batman villain solo stories like Joker: Folie Á Deux and The Penguin eating the lion's share of the notoriety. Both of these projects presented audiences with some shocking moments, including deaths carrying huge implications for their respective continuities.
2024 also saw DC release a number of high-profile animated projects, from the start of the Dcu with Creature Commandos to the finale of the animated Tomorrowverse series with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. These animated shows and films were arguably even more audacious with character deaths, rounding out the year for the company.

While Superman & Lois closed after the cancelation of the Arrowverse, the series shared much of its DNA with the popular television universe. Tyler Hoechlin's Superman first appeared in Supergirl before returning for various appearances in some of the show's enormous team-up events.
Doing superheroes on the small screen is a complex beast, and some of the best DC live-action series have not received as much acclaim as they deserve. While HBO has built a name for itself, and excellent shows like The Penguin are seen as prestigious for their links to the cinematic The Batman universe, other series have been viewed less favorably. The CW specifically has created so many incredible superhero television shows,...

Quick Links Embraced What Made DC Comics Special DC Crossovers Done Right in the Arrowverse DC Characters and Drama Over Spectacle The Arrowverse Was Topical and of Its Moment
In 2023, both the Arrowverse and Dceu seemingly ended with The Flash, as the CW series of the same name that ran for nine seasons concluded in May 2023 just a few weeks before the release of the long-in-development feature film for the Dceu. Both had a few final entries, with the Dceu officially concluding in December 2023 with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the non-connected but originally intended to be part of the Arrowverse series Superman & Lois aired its final episode in December 2024. The Arrowverse and the Dceu were designed to be interconnected universes that could introduce the world of DC to a broader audience, for people who would likely not pick up a comic book.
While these two DC-shared universes were airing simultaneously,...

I’m not a super-fan — just a casual Kryptonologist — but I must confess I never really got Superman’s dog. A canine with superpowers always struck me as deeply problematic. Does he knock over fire hydrants when he pees? Does the Earth’s rotation reverse whenever he chases his tail? Does he chew up his master’s red boots?
But now, after seeing Kal-El’s pooch in that just-dropped trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot, I’ve got just one question about the Man of Steel’s best friend: Great Caesar’s ghost, what took so long to get him onto the big screen?
The character has been around since 1955, when DC first dropped him into Adventure Comics #210 for what was supposed to be a one-off storyline. The plot arc was so popular, though, it wasn’t long before Krypto returned, again and again, romping regularly though a...
