Jason Momoa's new historical epic series, Chief of War, has officially received its Apple TV+ release date.

Per Variety, the two-episode premiere is set to land on Apple TV+ on Aug. 1, with new episodes dropping weekly. Based on true events, Chief of War serves as a passion project for Momoa, who told the Associated Press in 2022 that the series was going to be his career "pinnacle" and that it was his "Dances With Wolves". Chief of War follows "warrior Ka’iana (Momoa) as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century." Momoa co-created the series alongside Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who served as a writer on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The title, which is directed by Isaac Florentine and written by Richard Lowry, follows a drifter (Lang) with a mysterious past who arrives in a small town and finds the residents in the grip of a ruthless crime boss and realizes he has to help them.

Cliff Curtis has been cast in a recurring role in Jason Momoa’s upcoming Apple series “Chief of War.”

Per the official logline, the nine-episode series “follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view.”

Momoa stars in the series, with other cast members besides Curtis being Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, newcomer Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale’o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Native Hawaiian actress Mainei Kinimaka, and Te Kohe Tuhaka.

Curtis will appear as Keōua, the cousin of Kamehameha (Kaina Makua) who believes himself to be the rightful leader of Hawai’i.

Saban Films has secured global distribution rights to the crime thriller “Clean Up Crew” in all territories but Spain and Italy.

“The Survivalist” helmer Jon Keeyes directs Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Oscar winner Melissa Leo and Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas in the tale of a crime scene clean-up crew that finds a briefcase full of cash on a routine job. The discovery sends them unwittingly into battle with mobsters, hitmen and a corrupt government hellbent on the briefcase’s return.

The cast is rounded out by Ekaterina Baker (“The Protégé”), Andy Kellegher (“Game of Thrones”) and Laurence Kinlan (“Ned Kelly”). John Cena and Jason Momoa are partnering up to star in “Killer Vacation,” a new action-comedy in the works at Warner Bros.

Though plot details are being kept under wraps, one can probably expect a rowdy adventure in the vein of the blockbusters for which both are known. Cena headlined HBO Max’s “Peacemaker” series, a spinoff of his character in 2021’s “The Suicide Squad.”

Momoa has starred as Aquaman in a handful of movies and television series, most recently making a cameo at the end of “Peacemaker.” Other than that brief exchange, the actors have never shared the screen together.

Mark and Brian Gunn, the team behind the Dwayne Johnson-starring “Journey 2: Mysterious Island” and “Brightburn” will collaborate on the script. A director has not been named.

The role reunites the pair, as they previously played father and son in the Dceu film “Aquaman.” Morrison will also appear alongside Momoa in the sequel “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” due out in theaters in December 2023.

Directed by Jon Keeyes (The Survivalist) and written by Charles Burnley, The Last Girl recently wrapped production in Ireland and stars Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Shelley Hennig (Teen Wolf) and Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory).

Minecraft is a first-person survival game developed and published by Mojang Studios that spans multiple platforms. The first installment in the franchise debuted in November 2011, with the latest, Minecraft Dungeons, being unveiled in May 2020. While specifics as to the long-gestating film’s plot have been kept under wraps, Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) is now set to direct from a script by Chris Bowman & Hubbell Palmer (Masterminds).

Mojean Aria is in the midst of filming the biggest role of his career in a Warner Bros sci-fi thriller alongside one of his heroes in Hugh Jackman, plus Rebecca Ferguson, Thandie Newton, Cliff Curtis and Daniel Wu.

Jackman stars in Reminiscence as Nicolas Bannister, a war veteran living in a near-future Miami flooded by rising seas who has a special power: offering clients the chance to relive any memory they desire.

His life changes when he meets and embarks on a passionate affair with Ferguson’s Mae. But when another client’s memories implicate Mae in a series of violent crimes, he must uncover the truth about the woman he fell for.
