Star Trek: Voyager debuted 30 years ago this month, and it’s a kick to look back at the show’s earliest days. For example, the Voyager cast are the old-timers now, as Enterprise, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Prodigy, Lower Decks, several feature films, and now Section 31 have all followed. But, when Voyager started, “typecasting” was still very much a thing, the notion being that acting in a Star Trek production could lead to trouble landing subsequent roles after a series ended because the public and entertainment industry so strongly associated an actor with their Star Trek role. More than just about anyone other than Patrick Stewart, Voyager star Kate Mulgrew has avoided that fate.
“This is such a great job and, for me, Janeway is such a great role that even if a stigma were attached to it later on, that would just be tough luck," Mulgrew told me in...

Disney+’s Vision series is bringing back another familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Faran Tahir will reprise his role as villain Raza in the upcoming Marvel TV show, a role he played in the original 2008 Iron Man movie, our sister site Deadline reports. In that film, Raza was the leader of the terrorist group known as Ten Rings who imprisoned Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. Raza was betrayed and seemingly killed by Jeff Bridges’ Obadiah Stane — but we all know death is merely a state of mind when it comes to comic books.

For fans of sci-fi, fantasy, and supernatural TV, the question looms: where did all the great genre programming go?
From the syndicated adventures of Xena: Warrior Princess to the small-town charm of Eureka, from the gripping mysteries of The X-Files to the sprawling vampire tales of The Vampire Diaries, genre TV once ruled the airwaves.
Fans loved to escape reality with thrilling tales and cherished characters that reached cultural icon status. Yet, as we wade through the 2020s, finding similar shows has become like searching for a needle in a haystack. What happened?

Warehouse 13 is a beloved long-running sci-fi series that ran for five seasons (65 episodes) between 2009 and 2014 that focused on the titular secret government facility. The series follows two U.S. Secret Service Agents, Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) and Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock), who are tasked to the Warehouse and its incredible contents, featuring dangerous items and powerful artifacts that have paranormal or supernatural elements. The agents sort and uncover secrets about the contents, with storylines combining elements from their personal and professional lives.
The show feels like a mix of Doctor Who and The X-Files, with all the best aspects of both: a deeply personal character study of the lead characters mixed with fantastical sequences and other-worldly story arcs. A top-rated episode, like Season 1, Episode 12, 'MacPherson' shows an emotional core combined with an exciting narrative, whereas another, like Season 3, Episode 6, 'Don't Hate the Player' shows the series' comedic side with a lighter-hearted plot.

Science fiction is a genre that uses futuristic concepts, science, and technologies to explore humanity's capabilities. However, while elements like time travel, space exploration, and parallel universes are perfect for philosophical musings, they can also be leveraged for lighthearted hijinks and comedy. Lighthearted comedic sci-fi shows can utilize the high-stakes settings in the genre and find humor in the fantastical and otherworldly settings.
TV shows that flawlessly blend sci-fi elements with comedy and fun shenanigans often highlight the absurdity of the sci-fi genre and its tropes. Additionally, incredible sci-fi shows that embrace the zany and chaotic nature of the story give hope that the future isn't a dystopian wasteland filled with horrors. Comedic sci-fi shows can prove that no matter how science and technology change humans, humans will find a way to celebrate life with laughter and joy.

Some sci-fi TV shows have gotten even better with time and make for a great re-watch. One of the most entertaining things about watching an older sci-fi show or movie is to see how they envisage the future. Back to the Future has proved that self-tying shoes and flying cars may not be one of humanity's top priorities, but watching a show about the future, made in the past, can be both frightening and hilarious.
Viewers have also always been curious about discovering other planets or alternate realities. Some series tend to tackle the subject with care and trepidation, while others focus on a more lighthearted approach. But, the true beauty of the best sci-fi shows is embracing all the suspension of disbelief that the genre so graciously offers. While some classics like Star Trek don't even need to be mentioned, some relatively old shows from the last 20 years or so shouldn't be forgotten either.

There are several incredible sci-fi shows that see long runs on television, airing without seeing a single bad season. This is in stark contrast to the trend that seems to be developing more and more as of late, where sci-fi shows that don't deserve to be canceled are prematurely ended, and other underappreciated sci-fi shows never get the recognition they deserve. Although some long-running sci-fi shows like Doctor Who have been panned in recent years for poorly written seasons, many sci-fi shows with five seasons or more retain a consistent standard.
Though there are many incredible sci-fi movies set to release in 2025, sometimes a sci-fi TV show with plenty of episodes is exactly what a viewer needs. It is rare to find a series that truly has no bad seasons, remaining of a certain quality all the way through. With so many quality seasons to keep one busy, shows like...

Too often, canceled TV shows leave audiences devastated as the unexpected cancelations leave them with unanswered questions and their characters' fates unknown and the beloved channel SyFy is not above this. Launched in 1992, Syfy Channel has broadcast many incredible TV shows that garnered a large audience. Unfortunately, some of those were unceremoniously cut short; even TV shows with stellar audience numbers can be unexpectedly canceled and end forever on a cliffhanger.
Factors like TV's shift away from broadcast channels and toward streaming platforms and competition have resulted in more incredible TV shows being canceled. They often have great potential and untapped character growth, and their premature ends spark intense fan backlash and campaigns for renewal as dedicated fans fight for a planned-out end to their favorite show. This is especially true of the exact sort of genre TV shows that SyFy specializes in.

To understand "The Bionic Woman" heroine Jaime Sommers, you first have to get on board with "The Six Million Dollar Man." The young tennis star turned partially cyborg superhero was first introduced on "The Six Million Dollar Man" in the show's second season as a female counterpart to the series' male bionic hero. Jaime, the show told viewers, was severely injured in a skydiving accident, but cutting-edge technology allowed her to not only live through it, but also gain new skills. She had extra-strength hearing, superstrength, and the ability to run at top speeds, all of which came in handy for her new life as a schoolteacher-slash-spy.
A high-concept storyline like this one may not thrive on TV today (unless it was made by DC or Marvel), but in the '70s, audiences ate it up. Jaime's eventual death in "The Six Million Dollar Man" was so poorly received that...

Let's be honest; there should be more television series like Syfy's Warehouse 13. The series ran five seasons between 2009 and 2014, generally providing carefree and silly entertainment that combined science fiction and comedy into one rip-roaring package as secret agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) chased down and secured a never-ending trove of relics and artifacts deemed too dangerous for the world.
Equal parts thrilling, silly, and sometimes downright unbelievable, Warehouse 13 was buoyed by an incredible cast of characters brought to life by some seriously talented actors. Today, the show is still beloved by its many former fans, some of whom have always wondered what led to the fan-favorite character, Leena, the enigmatic proprietor of the Bed and Breakfast where the Warehouse agents lived, being written off of the series in Season 4.

When we talk about classic TV shows from the '70s, it's hard not to mention "The Six Million Dollar Man." Airing for five seasons on ABC, the show focuses on astronaut Steve Austin who is gravely injured in a spaceship crash. He then undergoes a government surgery that replaces his body parts with machine parts, making him part man, part cyborg. With the new powers afforded him by these upgrades, Steve goes to work for the Office of Scientific Information, battling evil forces.

Lt. Jenna Mitchell of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has had less screen time compared to other characters but has been involved in important missions. Lt. The cast of Angel reunites at the wedding of actor J. August Richards and Joshua Gbor, including Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof, as well as series co-creator Joss Whedon. Richards, who played Charles Gunn, has been busy since Angel, with notable roles in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Grey's Anatomy, among others. Richards has cited the enduring friendliness of the Angel cast as a reason he won't close the door on a potential reboot.

The early 2000s were an exciting time when it came to science fiction television. Several shows carried over the weird and eclectic undertones of similar series from the '90s. However, the era upped the ante by including elements that rose from the digital revolution thanks to the internet and cell phones.
As a result, despite the ever-present thematic focus on space exploration, supernatural or extraterrestrial aspects and time travel, 2000s sci-fi also began concentrating on technology and cyberspace. Nevertheless, the additional inclusion of humor with darker nuances separates shows like Invader Zim and Doctor Who from their '90s counterparts.

Please don't send any Harveys my way.
On SurrealEstate Season 1 Episode 2, we learned that imaginary friends could often have devious natures.
So much for nurturing your child's imagination. In the case of a Harvey, you might be leading your entire family to the grave.
SurrealEstate maintained its whimsy and humor the second episode out.
It also continues to resemble beloved shows that have come before, but I'd like to see a little more involvement from the secondary characters.
I'd mentioned Warehouse 13 and Haven, which were known to focus on the leads quite heavily. But Haven, especially, had a great supporting lineup of characters whose skills were imperative to helping the leads determine which direction to go to solve cases.
A reader brought up Eureka, and if things continue along this path, we won't see that same kind of unity on SurrealEstate.
Maybe I just don't understand what each agent...
