I feel comfortable when I see such a beautiful animation ,this reminds me of Jojo bizarre adventure. The story is great but my only issue is that they make fraud easy which is not in reality

It is a nice and sweet anime. The storylines remind of Ocean's 11 etc. The same kind of good guys that con a bad guy. Pretty basic and somewhat predictable stuff but absolutely fun to watch.
What makes this anime special is de graphics style, that are uncommon for a japanese anime and reminded me of the artistic graphical novels from Cyril Pedrosa. It has a freshness in it that really fits the stories. That alone makes it worthwhile to watch
Love this form of Art, would definitely recommend this Anime to you all. The protagonist is going through things here and character development can be seen
It is yet another excellent anime by WiT studio with outstanding visuals and great execution. It is a modern classic in thr making.

Though its title and theme are "pretenders", this anime is not really about fraud.
In each case, the protagonists cheat the rich bad people and make society a better place. As the story unfolds, you will see that the main characters each has their own emotional background stories. They are just normal people who were helpless in this capitalist society that is full of fraud already, and decided to use this weapon against what once hurt them the most. This is an story about justice and love, told in the most stylish and warm way. A good combination of western culture and Japanese animes' profoundity.

There's just so much to say...this anime is a perfect 10/10. The animation is absolutely stunning. Vibrant colors and so much rich and dynamic scenery. The voice acting (especially with the incorporation of so many different languages and accents) is among the very best I've ever heard. The characters, each and every one of them, are very likeable and have their own deep backgrounds and history, a lot of which relates to other characters you'd previously have no idea were connected. The soundtrack? Every episode is given life with jazz riffs, soft pop and an enthralling score, and its all capped off with a Freddie Mercury tune that I didn't skip a single time throughout the series. Now we get to the story itself. Quite literally the driving force behind the anime. Plot twist after plot twist. Surprise after surprise. Intensity that constantly has you on the age of your seat, and wondering what'll happen next. Only you never know and the reveal is bound to drop your jaw. Each and every question you may have will be answered with just the right amount of detail and explanation. After keeping you hooked for 21 episodes, the final 2 present themselves with an ending executed more perfect than anything I've seen in a very long time. It all comes full circle. All my questions answered, all my expectations shattered, everything I thought I knew completely out the window. And just when I thought I had seen it all, an end credits scene that floored me. I did not see any of this coming! I've been watching anime for several years, I'm actually coming up on my 100th anime watched. This one was something else entirely. To make it in my top 3 of all time is a statement in and of itself.
The scene after the final credits.. So glad they left it open. Now that netflix has picked it up it has a much better chance at getting one more hopefully. I think that's all it needs.
Both the dub and sub are great. The animation is some of the best since the hand drawn days. The use of color is masterfully done. The story is simple and engaging. I grew to like most of the characters. Its a solid 8.5 series, but i voted a bit higher to off set some silly reviews. The first comedy adult anime I've enjoyed since the first season of OPM.. they dont come around often at all. Yet this is not close to as silly as OPM, dealing with some pretty heavy topics. But often the outcome isnt edgy or depressing. Which very hard to do i imagine when also writing it as a comedy that also isnt your typical 'black comedy' either.
It feels like its taken its influences from some of the best anime ever made like Bebop, baccano and GTO and made something of its own. To me, it feels original. But i can see how some might interpret that the opposite way. Different perspectives i suppose.
Give it a go i say.

I liked the first 4-5 Episodes very much but then it lost its power throughout the rest of the show. I liked the art and music style (Cowboy Bebop inspired themes were noticed)

I am just completely blown
This anime is just pure class
The Great Pretender has managed to break out of the barriers of being a typical shonen anime

The show was a 9/10. Then the newest 9 episodes came out on Netflix today and they were a 15/10. It's funny and endearing. You'll even cry. Some of the episodes get darker as you go as a warning. It's one of those things aren't always as they seem con artist shows but at its best.

This anime is definitely the best anime of this year so far. Previously only available in +Ultra programming block of Fuji TV (same block with Beastars), but now it is coming to Netflix. Only 14 episodes released until now because it is imitating western series by having mid-season finale for the first half of the series.
The Cowboy Bebob's jazzy vibes and Catch Me If You Can's heist vibes feel really strong in this anime along with its opening theme song and title sequence. You must be really sure that this anime is truly good when they have Freddy Mercury of Queen for this anime ending song. Lastly, this is produced by Wit Studio who produced Attack on Titan Season 1-3 and Vinland Saga, what more can you expect?

One of the best anime I have seen in 2020. Honestly guys, I can't tell you how much I am gushing over this anime like it was just such a fantastic fun ride to get to know Laurent, Edamura, Abbie and Cynthia. Clearly whoever did, major kudos to them!!!!!!!
I am super in love with the art like Wit Studios just know how to hire great artists for this show. Not to mention having a slick soundtrack, as well as introducing a legendary Queen Song "Great Pretender" and matching it exactly of what this anime is about. I honestly hope there's a season 2 in the works because I just found this show entertaining, witty, sexy, hilarious, clever, full of twists, you name it! Basically all those types of ingredients are there is what you need for an anime to become great and memorable.
My dudes, I am begging you all to check out this show. This show is literally, you won't regret it !!!!!!!!!!!!!💓💓💓💓💓💓💓

The story is very good and the animation.
What if you cannot say that it was good is the protagonists, for some reason it seems that they were copied from black lagoon.
In some places he is very obsessed with teaching you that those who are scammed are bad people and that what they do is justified because the scammed are "bad." I do not know only they are and there is no reason to justify the actions.
By the way the intro looks like cowboy bepop is ok (I guess)
The story has it all like its funny, exciting, has crime, drama and like everything we need to have fun. Just loved by watching this anime. Its has much of comedy and slightly crime. I'm sure you will love this anime...

This show's made to look smart, but it's not up to the mark over its execution. Had great promise with all the visuals at the beginning (OP theme and the unique Art Direction) but came out more of Conceited Storytelling than the wit it was supposed to execute. Overall okay, but not great. Thanks to the average execution of the show.
Often predictable plot. And a poor cast of characters.
The show is mostly based outside of Japanese context. It could've been better with its writing and a more experienced director who has a better idea of the world outside beyond that of anime stereotypes.
It felt like a show trying to force itself to be amazing.
The anime lives up to its eponymous name. It conveys itself as a 'Great Pretender' in terms of execution. Pretends to look a classic, but ain't.
Trying to enforce consumerism, with real-life references to its snooty script. The only great things in this show corresponded to Freddy Mercury's ending song, the Opening Theme animation, and the Art Direction. The rest was a big let down.
Disillusion of a show against its first glances. Almost comparative of an Oscar Bait, which has no critical acclaim.

The Japanese Anime world is laughing so hard at the U.S., they've created a cartoon about con men in action. Coming in August 20, 2020. Hey ready for a clear cut clean story with action, music and Anime! Cheers. Japan is far ahead of Hollywood when it comes to creativity and such. Enjoy and tell me what you think? Murf
The whole idea, presentation, charcters are very well built and developed and the show is full of energy and dialoges; however, the show is on side of the good guys only or whatever you call them and there is no resistance from the bad guys which means everything is way oversimplified and without any consequences that makes it unreasonable.
If season 2 is decided one day and those improvements were done, this anime will be a very unique gem 💎.

Though due to the art style I don't consider this as an anime, the way they made it was masterful though. Though not that comedic it did try and fairly succeeded. The unexpected endings were also a great add on. Furthermore their choices of music for different situations were amazing, though because they repeated some of the tunes it seemed a bit like they were cheaping out. The end result far out weighs the series' many faults as it was heart warming and showed a dark side to society that most people wouldn't care to see, and yet made it all seem like it was woth it.
