TrustNordisk has sealed several deals on 3D family animation Super Charlie at this week’s European Film Market.

The film, written and directed by Jon Holmberg, has sold to the UK (Kaleidoscope), Baltics (Estin Film), former Yugoslavia (McF Megacom) and Vietnam (Blue Lantern Corp).

The Swedish title is produced by Gustav Olden for Nordisk Film Production Sweden.

Super Charlie follows a boy who dreams of being a superhero are shattered by the arrival of a baby brother; until they must team up to defeat a supervillain and a deranged scientist.

The film is adapted from Swedish writer Camilla Lackberg’s 2011 book of the same.

TrustNordisk has acquired international sales rights on Pal Oie’s upcoming monster movie Kraken.

The film is currently in pre-production, with a €5.3m (£4.5m) budget; and a 2025 theatrical release pencilled in for Norway.

Kraken will follow a marine biologist who discovers the eponymous mythical monster while doing research near Norway’s deepest fjord.

Oie will reunite with Nordisk Film Production’s John Einar Hagen and Einar Loftesnes on the film, after the duo produced Oie’s 2019 action thriller The Tunnel. Vilde Eide has written the script; it is produced in collaboration with Handmade Films in Norwegian Woods, who make genre titles based on Norwegian folklore.

Copenhagen-based TrustNordisk has inked multiple deals on the Danish thriller “Boundless,” based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s “Department Q” novel, which is currently dominating the Danish box office.

Ahead of the pic’s market screening Feb 17 at the Berlin European Film Market, the title, helmed by Ole Christian Madsen has sold to Wild Bunch Distribution for France, Vértigo Films for Spain, Frenetic Films for Switzerland, Film Europe Slovakia for Czech Republic, Vertigo Media for Hungary and Contents Panda for Korea.

“Boundless” is the second of six Department Q thrillers produced by Nordisk Film Production Denmark, after “The Marco Effect,” headlining Ulrich Thomsen as maverick detective Carl Mørck.

Department Q, the popular Danish crime novel, has seen a film series adaptation since 2013’s Danish film, Department Q: The Keeper of Lost Causes. It would then be followed by 2014’s Department Q: The Absent One. Then, that installment would be followed by 2016’s Department Q: A Conspiracy of Faith. Those would then proceed with 2018’s Journal 64, 2021’s The Macro Effect and the upcoming Boundless. Additionally, Netflix will be producing a series based on the crime novels.

Deadline has just unveiled the cast for the upcoming Department Q Netflix show. The series, which is based on author Jussi Adler-Olsen’s popular works, is currently filming in Scotland. Matthew Goode, who is known for Antony Armstrong Jones in season two of Left Bank’s regal drama The Crown, has been cast as Dci Carl Morck, along with Chloe Pirrie, who you may know from The Queen’s Gambit, plays ruthless and ambitious prosecutor Merrit Lingard.

2023 was a year of sustained gains year-on-year across the Nordics, although moviegoing is still down 23%-30% from pre-covid times. The summer was exceptional thanks to the “Barbenheimer” mania that boosted all five Nordic countries. Iceland was the only territory where “Oppenheimer” ranked third, after the local comedy “Wild Game” one of three Icelandic titles that enabled local fare to jump 123% in box office for a 14% market share.

Norway enjoyed a solid year and a 27% market share for domestic fare, led by three blockbusters based on popular IPs, including the top seller “Christmas at Cobble Street.”

In Finland, the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon was perhaps the strongest among the Nordic nations, making July the biggest ever in Finnish cinema history. Exclusive: UK industry veterans Richard Kondal and Patrick Fischer, founders of financier Creativity Capital, have formed a new co-production company dubbed Big Safari.

The banner marks the latest edition to the duo’s portfolio, which also includes shareholdings in sales agent Architect, VFX house Koala FX as well as Creativity Capital.

Big Safari was born off the back of the Simon West-directed 2022 television series Boundless, which Kondal and Fischer produced while at Fulwell 73 with Mono Films and Amazon. The strategy for the new outfit, said the duo, is to set up co-productions that help close finance for international producers, whether through accessing soft money in European co-productions as they did for Svalta or finding a cost-effective co-producer further afield like they did with UK-Philippines co-production The Bayou. Álvaro Morte, immortalized by his performance as the Professor in “Money Heist,” has inked a multi-year producing deal with Sony Pictures Television through his Madrid-based production company 300 Pistolas, which he founded alongside Blanca Clemente.

The accord sees 300 Pistolas, a theater company, making the transition into producing scripted TV, with Morte developing English-language scripted series exclusively with Spt, which he and Clemente will serve on as producers via 300 Pistolas.

Morte and Clemente will have access to Spt’s development teams. Spt will serve as exclusive production and distribution partner to any projects produced under the deal, Spt confirmed Wednesday.

Before “Money Heist,” Morte was best known for his role over 2014-17 in Spanish daily TV series “The Secret of Puente Viejo,” and was respected for 300 Pistolas, where he directed free versions of Spanish classics.

TrustNordisk has snapped up international sales rights to the new Danish crime thriller “Boundless,” based on fiction guru Jussi Adler-Olsen’s “Den Grænseløse,” his sixth novel in the Department Q series.

Danish helmer Ole Christian Madsen, credited for the HBO series “Banshee” (2013-16) and WWII drama “Flame & Citron” starring Mads Mikkelsen, has taken up the challenge of bringing Adler-Olsen’s suspenseful universe to the silver screens, working from a script by Jakob Weis.

Christian Madsen will reunite with his “Banshee” actor Ulrich Thomsen. The latter reprises the role of detective Carl Mørck, which he played in Nordisk Film Production’s previous Department Q film version, “The Marco Effect”.

The helmer said he has “a profound respect for the world built in Adler-Olsen’s novels, that he finds both “intriguing and fascinating.” “I do believe ‘Boundless’ the movie could expand that world even more,” he asserted.

Adding to its growing roster of overseas drama titles, Germany’s Zdf Studios has snagged international distribution rights to “Clean Sweep,” a six-part Irish thriller which is set to premiere on Sundance Now and Irish public broadcaster RTÉ.

“Clean Sweep” stars Charlene McKenna, Captain Swing in “Peaky Blinders,” in a crime drama told from the point-of-view of the killer who is also, unusually, a self-sacrificing mother and wife. Filming is now underway.

McKenna, whose credits take in “Bloodlands” and “Vienna Blood,” plays Shelly Mohan, a woman living a quiet life in Western Ireland as a housewife and mother of three who kills her former partner in crime when he threatens to expose her dark past.

A potential part of a burgeoning production axis between Spain and Portugal, “The Last Wolf” won the largest prize of the night, a development deal at Spanish public broadcaster Rtve, worth an estimated €50,000 and a virtual invitation to set the project up as a co-production with Spain.

Titled “Mary’s Monster,” it follows Shelley as she struggles to complete her gothic masterpiece, which was published in 1818.

Farren Blackburn will direct the feature from a screenplay by Deborah Baxtrom (“Living With Frankenstein”). The logline reads, “Terrified of giving voice to the darkness of her subconscious mind, Mary Shelley locks into a dangerous battle with her own ‘inner monster’ as she struggles to write her seminal science fiction novel, ‘Frankenstein.'”

Exclusive: The Craft: Legacy star Zoey Luna has signed with A3 Artists Agency for representation.

The transgender youth activist and actress portrayed Lourdes in The Craft: Legacy and currently can be seen in Universal’s Dear Evan Hansen, directed by Stephen Chbosky.

Luna was the subject of the groundbreaking documentary film Raising Zoey, chronicling her journey of how she was determined to live her authentic life, and fought school officials in the Los Angeles school system with the ACLU for her right to self-identify in school between ages 12-15. She was also part of Laverne Cox’s documentary film Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word for MTV and the documentary 15: A Quinceañera Story for HBO.

She began her acting career with a lead role in the Rosario Dawson-directed short film Boundless and she most recently appeared in the season finale of FX’s award-winning series Pose.

UK film and TV outfit Fulwell 73 has wrapped production on Simon West’s Boundless, which has been made as a feature-length film and three-part TV series for Amazon Prime Video and Spanish broadcaster Rtve.

Both the feature-length work and series will be released in 2022 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and Spanish broadcaster Rtve.

Westworld star Rodrigo Santoro and Money Heist’s Alvaro Morte headline the cast.

The project is Fulwell 73’s first foray into international production and is co-produced by Spain’s Elcano with backing from Etb, Canal Sur and Gazprom-Media Kit Group.

Exclusive: The Craft remake has found its leads. Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone and Zoey Luna are set to star in the Blumhouse and Columbia Pictures pic along with previously announced Cailee Spaeny. Zoe Lister-Jones is at the helm of the reimagining of the 1996 female-fronted, witch-themed cult classic.
