Peaky Blinders, despite its kind of cutesy name, is a pretty brutal crime drama about English gangs in the wake of World War I. It turned creator Steven Knight (who before this was one of the co-creators behind Who Wants To Be A Millionaire) into a celebrated screenwriter; he's now one of the many writers with a Star Wars movie in development, along with an upcoming Peaky Blinders movie set during World War II.
Among Peaky Blinders' many cast members was Aidan Gillen, whom Game of Thrones fans will remember as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, the scheming master of coin. Gillen played ruthless hitman Aberama Gold starting in the fourth season, which aired in 2017. Speaking recently at the Royal Television Society conference in London, Knight confessed that before hiring Gillen, he thought Game of Thrones was a show intended for children; his young son was obsessed with it, after all, and...

Writer Steven Knight has revealed he thought “Game of Thrones” was a kids show until he cast one of its actors in his own series.
Knight, who’s perhaps best known for creating Cillian Murphy-starrer “Peaky Blinders,” was speaking at the Royal Television Society conference in London, in conversation with BBC journalist Katie Razzall when he made the admission.
He recalled how his young son was obsessed with “Game of Thrones,” asking for a DVD boxset for Christmas, which Knight was happy to provide having seen it featured dragons. It was only when he came to cast “Game of Thrones” alum Aidan Gillen in “Peaky Blinders” he realized the George R. R. Martin-created series had more adult themes.
When someone suggested Gillen for “Peaky,” they told Knight that he plays the brothel keeper in “Game of Thrones.” Knight responded in shock: “What are you talking about? It’s a kid’s show!

Exclusive: Vincent Rubino, executive producer/showrunner of the upcoming Hollywood Squares revival on CBS, has been let go from the show for allegedly making a racially insensitive comment to Bipoc members of the production staff.
According to a source close to the matter, the veteran game show producer is accused of raising his arms and saying “don’t rob me” to three persons of color — believed to be Black and Hispanic/Latino — who work as production assistants. Another person allegedly overheard the comment and reported it to Hr.
Swift action was taken by Jesse Collins Entertainment, which is producing Hollywood Squares for CBS with Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films, and Rubino was removed from the show, sources said. He declined to comment, as did a spokeswoman for the studio.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Kimmelot and Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse Entertainment have parted ways as investment partners, according to media reports.
Kimmel pulled his investment in Wheelhouse, which was founded by the “Pawn Stars” producer, and Wheelhouse similarly divested its stake in Kimmel’s production banner. Despite the end of the investment partnership, the companies will continue working together on several series as well as “share resources and partner on a variety of individual projects.”
The news comes a couple months after Wheelhouse Entertainment secured an investment from Jeff Bewkes and Kevin Tsujihara’s investment firm, Alignment Growth. The commitment marked the first outside investment that Wheelhouse has taken since its launch in 2018.
“When Wheelhouse took the equity investment from Alignment Growth, we made the decision to consolidate equity ownership,” representatives for Wheelhouse and Kimmalot said in a joint statement to media. “Jimmy transitioned from an equity partner to a commercial partner.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Kimmelot and Brent Montgomery’s Wheelhouse have parted ways after six years of business partnership between the late-night host’s production banner and the producer’s startup media and investment venture.
The shift for Kimmelot and Wheelhouse has been in the works for months. Kimmelot’s exit from operating under the Wheelhouse umbrella was anticipated when Wheelhouse did its first round of outside funding earlier this year from Jeff Bewkes’ firm Alignment Growth. It’s understood that Kimmel decided it was time for the company to transition out of Wheelhouse, where Kimmelot was founded in 2018, to a fully independent status. The partners cast the move as amicable and noted that both companies will remain in business together on existing projects.

“When Wheelhouse took the equity investment from Alignment Growth, we made the decision to consolidate equity ownership,” Wheelhouse and Kimmalot said in a joint statement. “Jimmy transitioned...

Jimmy Kimmel is forging a new path with his production company.
Kimmel has divested his stake in Wheelhouse Entertainment, the production group founded by Pawn Stars producer Brent Montgomery, and Wheelhouse similarly no longer owns a stake in the late-night comedian’s production company Kimmelot.
The move comes after Alignment Growth, the investment vehicle run by Jeff Bewkes and Kevin Tsujihara, acquired a minority stake in Wheelhouse earlier this year, the first outside investment that Wheelhouse took since its launch.
Montgomery launched Wheelhouse Entertainment in January 2018 after he stepped down as CEO of ITV America, the U.S. arm of the company that acquired his group Leftfield Entertainment for $360M in 2014.
Kimmel came on board in November 2018 as a partner as he launched his own production company, Kimmelot, in partnership with Wheelhouse, taking an equity stake in the overall business at the time.

What can we find at the end of the dragon’s tail? More dragons, apparently. After airing its season 2 finale on August 4, “House of the Dragon” was still the most-watched streaming program on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Aug. 5-11, as viewers caught up on the season.
Even in a week during which it did not release a new episode, “Dragon” bested this week’s big streaming series debut, “The Umbrella Academy” Season 4. Netflix added the six-episode season on Aug. 8 and drew enough households to place the series at No. 6 this week. The first episode of Season 4 was seen by 559,000 U.S. households during the first four days it was available.
Oddly, “Umbrella Academy” wasn’t the most noteworthy addition to the Netflix library. Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher films were recently added to the streamer and made the Top 10 this week. “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,...

As ABC airs another edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire — with pairs of celebrities playing for charity this time around — the game show is hitting a milestone anniversary. The American version of Millionaire debuted 25 years ago, on August 16, 1999, with then-host Regis Philbin putting players in the hot seat. A week later, contestant Michael Shutterly became the first contestant to reach the $1 million question, Question #1 below. And that November, contestant John Carpenter became the first $1 million winner, offering the correct response to Question #2 below. Since then, the ABC version of the show has had nearly three dozen players (including some famous folks) reach the final question, according to the show’s Fandom wiki. Some won the $1 million, many more chose to take the $500,000 and walk away, and only one, Ken Basin, gave an incorrect “final answer,” losing $475,000 on Question #31 below. In fact, the August 14 episode, just days before the anniversary,...

Kevin Bacon Says EPing ABC’s ‘Lucky 13’ Game Show Came From Being Open to ‘Outside of the Box’ Ideas
Kevin Bacon hadn’t considered entering into the world of competition reality television, but when ABC called him up about the possibility of executive producing a new game show, he was all ears.
“All throughout my life, there’s always been moments where an idea seems like a little bit outside of the box, depending on what I had been involved in,” Bacon told TheWrap. “But over the years, I’ve learned to leave myself open to all kinds of crazy notions.”
Despite having no background in the genre, Bacon was intrigued by one of the three ideas brought forward by the creators of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Bacon said that he watched that series and even once competed on the celebrity edition, but admitted that he “didn’t do very well.”
After setting up a call where Bacon played the “Lucky 13” game himself, he was sold.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? fans are buzzing after the latest episode featuring the season’s first official winners of the top prize.
The season premiered weeks ago on ABC and introduced a change to the format. Instead of one contestant playing the game, there are two.
In addition, it’s a pair of celebrity contestants who are typically good friends, colleagues, or family members, such as Jack and Kelly Osbourne.
While previous Millionaire formats had everyday contestants playing the game to leave with some significant money, the celebrity pairs are playing for money that goes to charities of their choice.
During the Wednesday, August 14 episode, viewers saw another pair of celebs attempt to climb up the board and win the $1 million.
One of the two teams did just that, which was the first time it had happened on the game show under the new team format.

Ike Barinholtz Won $1 Million On Another Game Show Last Year
Game show fans might remember seeing Ike Barinholtz on Celebrity Jeopardy! in 2023. He muscled out Wil Wheaton and Patton Oswalt during the inaugural season of the competition, earning another $1 million for charity. At the time, Ike donated his winnings to Hollygrove, which is a city outside of New Orleans.
Earlier this year, he returned to Jeopardy! to compete in the Tournament of Champions. He was the only celebrity to do so and made it to the semi-finals before his winning streak came to an end.

Ike Barinholtz has mastered another game show as the comedian and his dad, Alan Barinholtz, won the $1 million jackpot on Wednesday’s (August 14) episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The Afterparty star, who last year won the inaugural primetime season of Celebrity Jeopardy!, winning $1,000,000 for charity, recently spoke to People about his Millionaire accomplishment, describing how a childhood obsession with trivia led to this incredible moment. “Our whole life has been a trivia night,” Ike told the outlet. “Whether it was when we were little and we would play Trivial Pursuit, or, I think, we watched almost every episode of Jeopardy! and watched hundreds of episodes of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Ike — who also placed as a semifinalist in Jeopardy!‘s 2024 Tournament of Champions — and his father became the first duo and the second celebrities overall to win the $1 million top prize as well as the...

Jimmy Kimmel spent much of 2022 vacillating as to whether he would continue hosting his eponymous late-night before striking a new, three-year deal.
The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! revealed that one of the reasons he signed this deal was that he is “worried” about what he’ll do next.
But a bigger concern for the late-night world is that Kimmel doesn’t think there will necessarily be any late-night shows on network television in 2034.
“I don’t know if there will be any late-night television shows on network TV in ten years. Maybe there’ll be one but there won’t be a lot of them,” he said on the Politickin’ podcast. “There’s a lot to watch and now people can watch anything at anytime, they’ve got all these streaming services. Has the popular Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? become too easy since its format changed?
The earliest versions of the game show featured non-celebrity contestants trying to advance up the game board and potentially leave as a million-dollar winner.
With the version that recently returned to ABC, pairs of celebrity contestants are trying to win their way to the million dollars, and any winnings they leave with go to charities they play for.
A recent episode featured actress Sophia Bush and comedian Alex Edelman as one pair and comedian Jeff Ross and Jimmy Kimmel’s Cousin Sal as the other.
During the episode, some fans called out the show based on what they felt were “depressingly easy” questions at the higher levels of the game.
That included a $250,000, which many viewers may or may not have known the answer for.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire fans wonder if the show is losing its edge. After watching a recent episode, some suspicions arose when a celebrity question seemed to be dumbed down. It was as if they were handing it to the players.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Fans Don’t Like The Show Direction

Led by 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room EP Neil Grant, the group sent a letter to BBC Board members and Chair Samir Shah on July 19 describing their “anguish and disbelief because we fear we have now exhausted the process of raising our very serious concerns about anti-Jewish racism with BBC Management.”
The group also sent the board members what they describe as a non-exhaustive list of social media breaches and “impartiality breaches in matters of public controversy relating to Israel and Gaza,” broadcast mistakes that “suggest bias,” and an account from anonymous sources “of the fear and mental health toll on Jewish BBC staff, their feelings of isolation and alienation...

The duo appeared in Wednesday’s episode of the game show, which also featured a team of Sophia Bush and Alex Edelman.
Celebrity pairs are playing for charity during the latest season of the game show, with the chance to win as much as $1 million.
